Explorer Shafers offers an integrated on-premise service management solution designed to manage inventory, payroll, budgets and more. Integrated within that are applications to manage contacts and work orders, and schedule, dispatch and track technicians. 

GPS functionality allows dispatchers to send the closest available technician and monitor the status of open calls. Technicians can use the system to print invoices and collect payment while on-site or send information to the back office to be reviewed and posted.With Explorer Shafers, users can schedule visits, create renewal campaigns, send automatic renewal letters, dispatch technicians and more. Perfect organizer for insurance

I used to have a part time job working on a home insurance company. It was easy to use the product (I learned in something like 2 days) and really helpful.

Pros

Explorer Shafers helped me to keep track of all the products that were in every home I managed in the insurance company. Our technicians were always on the field but the vans had different replacements for different versions of products. So ES helped us to save all the customer information.

Cons

There's no "smart" integration with some products. It will be great if the app recognizes when something stop working.

We have proudly been with Shafers since 1992 & have grown & partnered with them thru the years!

Quick streamlined accurate information. We get info from the field to the office and back to our customers quickly with this software. This also truly helps us to market to specific customers with specific attributes.

Pros

This software has everything you would want or need as relates to heating & air conditioning. They are constantly upgrading their product and implementing user suggestions into their software updates. It can be customized to each users' needs & priorities, and has more features than any one company could probably use. The best attribute that I can say about this software is their tech support is top notch and very responsive. They have worked with us through requests & issues over the years and continue to do so. We have recently began using their mobile platform as well for our technicians in the field. This has helped us to immensely stream line communications & follow ups with our customers which was sorely needed. I would recommend Explorer Shafers product to anyone that is looking for a complete solution to help their heating & air conditioning company grow & change with the times.

Cons

It has so many features & possibilities, that the set up and initial leg work can be tedious. It is not a cheap software program but I imagine part of that is because they continue to invest in research & development in their product to make it better. I also would say that to truly use all or most of the features that is available, it is probably better suited for mid size companies or larger that has multiple office staff workers to take advantage of the program.

Pros

Easy to use for my staff , runs with zero glitches.nice full screen for dispatching and tracking techs

Cons

would like customer support billed hourly not with yearly subscription although i understand its part of business.

My sad experience with Shafers HVAC software

I purchased Shafer's system in 2012 and used it for 6 years before finally walking away. It is a feature rich system and I had great hopes of one day fully implementing all its benefits into my company. There was a continual need for tech support. The support team was good but the issues were always there. Every software upgrade seemed to introduce as many bugs as they fixed. The final straw was when the software locked me out claiming I had no authorized access. I called tech support and was told I couldn't get their help until I renewed my support agreement for another year. I said I would pay per incident or per hour and they said that was not an option. The annual fee had risen per year, I dumped Shafer's and went back to my old software and company. Got a software upgrade to latest edition and a 3-year maintenance contract at cheap prices. Don't get caught in their trap, you will regret it eventually.

Pros

Feature rich and well organized visually. Loved the mobile application.

Cons

Only runs with windows. Lots of bugs and high cost for the service agreement. Trouble keeping static IP connection working.

Long time Shafer's User

Cytech has been using Shafer's since 1995, I have used the product for nearly 17 years. We've experienced the transition from DOS to Windows and implemented the Mobile Office throughout our service truck fleet. Having everything incorporated into one product, makes for easy flow and tracking. We utilize most modules and options. Some of the options we do not use are still in need of some updating/work for use within our company. The Mobile Office has been a great addition to our service department. There are a few things that still need to be fixed; such as an invoice retaining the bill to account and/or mailing address once it is sent back to the Back Office, taxes on a commercial service call and allowing service technicians access to history while on standby are a few. Overall we are pleased with the software and the staff is always willing to help work out the kinks.
