The customer service has been top-notch. I'm a very satisfied customer and have already spread the word about Blackbaud and Etapestry to my colleagues in the nonprofit field.

Pros

Etapestry makes it easy for me to have all of my important donor information in one comprehensive spot. Pulling reports, adding content and getting an at-a-glance look at where my financials are coming from have been an essential part of my strategic success.

Cons

There is definitely a learning curve, as there is for any industry-specific software. Working in the nonprofit field, it's hard to find time to learn everything there is to know but I'm confident that the more I use the software, the more second-nature it will become.

Generally E-Tapestry is a good database for a smaller non-profit. It is flexible enough for some customization and their customer service is absolutely the bomb.

Pros

I like that you can create UDF (User Defined Fields) to customize the data you are using
It is fairly easy to understand and user friendly
The customer service is GREAT!
I also like the DIY (Do it yourself) forms
I like being able to suggest updates, I just wish they came faster

Cons

The journal entry types is not customize-able. So I have emails with the same entry type as an actual meeting with the constituent.
The DIY forms are not as flexible as they really need to be
The event module is separate and costs more.

I would highly recommend eTapestry as a software solution for fund development. Great for managing up to 10,000 constituents and Blackbaud is fantastic to work with.

Pros

eTapestry is easy to use, query and reporting features are dynamic and static and constituent records are easy to record journal entries, take notes and track information about donors.

Cons

Sometimes the reporting features change due to updates in the software (on in the cloud), but the customer service is top notch and will troubleshoot these concerns and find a solution to resolve the issue.

Overall eTapestry like all Blackbaud software is an excellent donor database.

Pros

eTapestry is the most basic software by Blackbaud. The software enables your organization to store information about donors, grant applications, and even events. It tracks all the information about donors that is input into the system and while searching for each you can easily track the history. It also provides reports based upon queries you perform. Overall it is a great donor database and has all the esentials a nonprofit needs to keep track of its donors and grants. You can also easily upload the grant submission documents so that you have a database of your fundraising.

Cons

Like most Blackbaud products in order to produce reports you must do a query. Queries are a little more difficult to do and take training and sometimes customer support assistane to understand, especially for new users to the software. A lot of nonprofits use volunteers to input the information and if you transition volunteers to do this it may take time to have them be taught the process.

I would not wish this donor management system on my worst enemy.

Pros

It already has all of my data in it. That is literally the only good thing I can say about it. I would never ever purchase this software

Cons

Its impossible to run reliable reports, even their own support people can't tell me how to get the data I need out of their system. There is no easy way to expunge old records. They make it exceedingly difficult to get away from this company when your contract with them does expire. I have to clean up reports by hand every time I run them.

IF you use their system, you should really consider using their payment processing as well. It is comparable to other services and will make your life easier.

Pros

The interface is easy to use and the donation processing and web forms functionality is pretty intuitive. If you haven't used a donor database before, this is a good beginning system. It has all of the basic functions you need, is fairly easy to use and fees are on a sliding scale.

Cons

Their reporting and querying system is not great. You can get what you need, but it seems to be overly complicated and often requires two or three steps where other systems can do it in one. They are making improvements on this, but the essential architecture now is the same as it was when I first used this system in 2008, so I am not sure how much they can effectively change.

The only thing they are reliable at is billing you - they conveniently require direct deposit. Currently trying to find someone who can change my billing process - though it's been weeks and no one has gotten back to me.

Pros

I believe that there are great capabilities if you have the time to figure out how to utilize this database. I would recommend having someone specifically dedicated to this - ideally a tech person or computer programmer - not just a development person.

Cons

It's not intuitive.Customer service is not very accessible. They charge extra for additional support. Getting started on training you're really on your own. There are so many various locations for instruction, some at an additional cost. Getting started in this database has taken months to upload my 1,000 records. I don't have a point person to contact or anywhere to go up the chain of command. I have no idea how this company is structured. Considering scrapping it and finding something new.

Their support number is a nice tool that is included with their pricing. However, I found I had to use it frequently because so many aspects of this software are more challenging than they need to be.

Cons

Reports are the most difficult part of etapestry. There are so many nuances to running a report that will actually provide the results that you want. I have spent a lot of time running and re-running reports to finally get the desired outcome.

Integration with online giving is seamless. Manual entry of gifts is easy and straightforward. It's easy to export data.

Cons

No one in our small organization uses this software regularly enough to feel proficient, and it isn't intuitive. I waste a lot of time trying to get data out of the software. Reports have to be rebuilt every time you run them, and there is no built-in year against year to date report, which seems like an essential to me. When I was given instructions on how to accomplish this, I couldn't believe the number of steps it involved. I find myself spending a lot of time running queries, then exporting them to Excel to manipulate the data to prepare something I can share with the ED and Board. I know there are users who love this software, but it isn't working well for us.

We are able to track and communicate with our donors through this system. The reporting functionality is amazing for the price, and after a user has invested quite a bit of time into learning how everything works, the system has many capabilities that have been extremely useful for our organization.

Pros

We like the tiered permissions (security groups) function, which set this system apart from many other offerings in the donor management arena. The customer service has always been great when we've had problems. The reporting capabilities of eTapestry are absolutely incredible.

Cons

The software is not always intuitive, and it's only easy to use after lots of time has been spent learning its layout and functionalities.

Easy to set up queries, fast reporting features and an increase of donations because we have more time to focus on the donor and not the software.

Pros

Blackbaud's eTapestry is highly functional and very easy to use. We have almost 7,000 records in the eTapestry database. We found for queries, reporting and lists we are able to create these quicky to return the information we desire. Also, there are customizable features that we use frequently for our specific donor interests.

Cons

Our organization does not have anything negative to say about eTapestry. The service is fabulous and so is the product. We wish it were a lower cost, but feel we get the value out of the software.

We are a small public garden who recently purchased a 3 year subscription to eTapestry. Don't be fooled by the smooth sales pitch - the service is appallingly bad. We purchased what was sold as unlimited phone support at an additional cost. One month later we still have not been able to get a call answered. When we call there is a message saying we are not entitled to phone support despite the check having been cashed one month ago. Contacted them again this morning - still waiting 4 hours later for help - currently on hold. It may be a decent program but there is no help getting it set up. Buyer beware!!!

I know it sounds like a lot of fun ... but you have to have MBA from Blackbaud U to really make it work. If you are a small organization, working with a team of volunteers , or you have low skill employees ... this is not the system for you. (Don't get me wrong, for a large organization with a team of dedicated database workers ... this is the most powerful system out there ... but for the small to mid size organization ... scale back to something a bit easier to use.

The system we found very functional and inclusive in all donor and fundraising needs. The record keeping is great and allows you to track what was sent and when and how often. It allows you to find any donor's information to ask them for another donation or a thank you letter. It is a little on the expensive side and not the easiest system to figure out, but all in all, i would recommend it.

Inflexible forms, reporting and customizing along with deal-breakingly slow to load event registration forms with few design options anywhere close to modern standards turned us totally away from etapestry after a 2 year stint. Even the training videos were stuck in the 1950's. Far too unsophisticated for our use. Asked too few and the wrong questions before diving into our data set-up left us wondering what we would get. Short answer: not what we needed. Their claims of customer service and customization are a fantasy.

In etapestry, I mainly use the email function. Which is very easy to use, and I love the reports I can see. Being able to email our database at large, or in segments, has changed the way we communicate with our donors. It's too complicated for small organizations and not robust enough for large organizations. Since bought by Blackbaud, it seems to have been de-prioritized in terms of features, upgrades and design. Customer support is very good - but you'll need them on speed dial. Great people, great company - but this produce needs a little more TLC. Email marketing function is almost un-usable in today's mobile environment. No moves-management function, etc. 'Entirely customizable' means you have to build your own systems within. Great for basic donor info and gift tracking. Took us a couple years to 'right-size' it for us - and even then, when you have more 'work-arounds' than original offerings, you wonder if there's something better.

The "knowledge base" search is practically useless. It's much more efficient to go to Google, type in eTapestry and my question.

I was hired at Neighborhood Healthcare 3 weeks before its largest fundraiser of the year. I needed to learn eTapestry quickly to accurately update the database with event purchases and I needed my data entry to be fast. Customer support was my go-to, they answered questions over their chat module, emailed me white papers on best practices, and shared detailed instructions on how to be most efficient with our database.

Pros

Customer service was fast, knowledgeable, and respectful. I never felt like I was asking a dumb question and they always had an answer.

We' recently started using eTapestry for our nonprofit. We have all of our contacts, clients, donors, volunteers and others stored in the program. We absolutely love it!

Pros

We really like that so much is customizable. We were able to work with the set up team to make the program exactly how we needed it to work. I love that I can still go in and add things that I need or get rid of things we don't track anymore.

Cons

It would be nice to have one area that was a simple biography on a donor instead of having several notes to look at.

I have used the software in my work for a nonprofit 501 c 3 organization. eTapestry has a clear, intuitive structure that is also easy to personalize. I feel like information that before was spread out over our intranet, email marketing software, and donor database system is now together in one place for streamlined communication.

Cons

The "Help" section can be confusing. You can easily end up looking up with answers that pertain to other Blackbaud products and tracing your way back to eTapestry specifically can be confusing.
