Airtable Software

Airtable is a cloud-based project management solution targeting small to midsize businesses as well as departments within larger companies. This system focuses primarily on data organization and collaboration.

The system uses a spreadsheet format to organize data. Related data can be linked together; for example, contacts can be linked to their companies or inventory items can be linked to their vendors.

Airtable is compatible with multiple devices. On desktop computers, users see data in a spreadsheet format, while on mobile devices, data can be viewed as tappable cards. On both devices, users can add and remove data, attach files and share tables.

Airtable integrates services such as Dropbox, Box, Evernote and Google Drive. Tables in this software are shareable, and users can track who is making changes to documents when. A chat tool is also included, which allows users to chat each other while working on tables.

Airtable was founded in 2012 and is offered worldwide. This software is priced on a per user per month basis. A mobile app is available for iOS.

It has been the best program for collaborations, data storage and I recommend that you try it, the price is acceptable depending on the use (you can do a 30-day test) but I see that with the free version you can get a good experience.

Pros

It has a very stable interface, careful and flexible, you could almost say it is perfect, it does not take much knowledge to use it. Their calculation sheets are simpler but effective for working on them, but it is not only spreadsheets it also adapts to any type of project or task making it a multifunctional program ;)

Cons

This product is fascinating and complete that the only thing that I dislike is that it could be linked to other bases and does not have an offline mode. It would be very nice to be included that function is specila, since there are times when I am in areas where there is no internet coverage.

AirTable is a great task manager that is a lot more visual than Trello or Asana (although we still use those for different aspects of our business.)

Pros

Airtable is easy to start using within moments of creating an account and organizes individual and team-wide to-dos, action items, files, and questions. It has been a game-changer in terms of organizing our teams and creating an environment of transparency and has cut out a lot of back-and-forth communication about where tasks are in the process of getting done.

Cons

We haven't been using AirTable enough to run into the paywall yet - I do wish there was an easier way to see real-time edits and who is making them (a la Google Docs) but imagine this is an integration that will come along soon. It seems a little too easy to change due dates and information, making it easy for data to be accidentally deleted.

Pros

I absolutely love how Airtable functions as both a spreadsheet and comprehensive database tool - it’s just so flexible and easy to organize!

Cons

The one part that I dislike about Airtable is their pricing structure. I find that you really have to pay a lot for Airtable’s advanced features. In some cases, these paid features would be free on their competitors platforms.

Pros

I litterally see Airtable as my work planner and execution tracker managing information with my remote team has never been easy easier
it being highly visual, sleek and user-friendly both on mobile and desktop makes it not boring.
I like the fact that it integrates with quite a large number of support making collaboration easy.
The template are amazing and filled with examples of how others are using it - I mean the question of lengthy learning curve is not there and what's more the free version offers a lot

Cons

So far so good I haven't seen anything wrong with or not useful about the air table software it is simply amazing

Pros

It's like spreadsheets, but it doesn't suck! It's easy to use and very dynamic! Also has a Form function which to me makes this program 100% more useful. Also the blocks available are very useful.

Cons

Unfortunately the two parts that make this program so useful are limited in use. The form doesn't even allow for non-question sections, like a description text block and the blocks are only available to people who subscribe to the pro version. Great for businesses but for a casual user it makes the program a lot less desirable.

Supercharged Spreadsheets

Value for Money

Airtable is a powerful tool, much more so than Excel or Google Sheets, and much more elegant than Smartsheets. That being said, the cost is prohibitive for some to take full advantage. Thankfully, the free version is sufficiently functional to still win out over the competitors.

Pros

Airtable makes the chore of spreadsheet work so much easier and more enjoyable. It offers colored options, icons (stars, etc.), simplified and powerful formulas, a variety of organizational views (grids, kanban, etc.), and highly customizable views for sharing. The ability to track row histories and communicate with colleagues is a huge plus as well.

Cons

Airtable is powerful, and certainly worth a financial investment, but the current pay scale per user (and how it defines users — anyone with access) is too costly for many smaller organizations, especially non-profits.

The Evolution Of The Spreadsheet

Ease-of-use

Functionality

Product Quality

Customer Support
N/A

Airtable is a refreshing new look at what spreadsheets can be. It is great for organizations with varying degrees of user experiences with spreadsheets. And if your organization uses spreadsheets quite extensively, then this might be a great alternative.

As mentioned in Cons, the proprietary nature of Airtable means that if you need to keep a standalone copy in a file format, you will not be able to do so. You can import those current spreadsheets, but once manipulated and modified in Airtable, you must continue using it. So, archival files are not possible. Something to consider, as some enterprise environment do like to keep electronic files locally archived for attachment to specific documentations. Airtable might not be that solution.

Pros

Spreadsheets are great because of their flexibility. But most of its power lies behind a vast library of functions that users must have a good understanding about its syntax and how to use it. Add to that the fact that they are not exactly pretty to look at. The solution lies with Airtable. Coined as part spreadsheet and part database, it provides a new way of displaying vital information without all the hassles of setting up a spreadsheet.

For starters, Airtable offers a vast array of templates and layouts to choose from. If you are proficient, or the templates simply do not provide you with the necessary layout, you can start one from scratch. Maybe even create your own template.

Airtable is like a high performance spreadsheet with a serious upgrade on its user interface. Even the user experience is something quite amazing. YOu add, remove or modify the columns and configure them to accept the data you need.

It does all a spreadsheet can do, except that its coolest feature is its ability to go from a grid appearance, like your typical spreadsheet, to a form appearance, which resembles more of a database.

Airtable offers a wide array of functionality in its free subscription level. Upgrades offer more customization options that enhance the functionality and appearance of your table. And to make the transition from regular old boring spreadsheets to Airtable, they offer importing of your data to start off with.

Cons

It is much easier than your typical spreadsheet, but if you are a true spreadsheet power user, you may find a bit of a lack in its functionality. Again, only if you are a power user, which most of us are really not when it comes to everything spreadsheets can do. There are limited hover over hints for the buttons and fields, so you need to really click on them to find out what they are used for. Novice spreadsheet users will still find a similar learning curve with Airtable, but because the core functionalities are visible from the top ribbon, it does make it just a bit easier to use. But, remember, there will still be a slight learning curve, especially with more advance features.

Please note, it does well at importing those current spreadsheets, but Airtable is proprietary and online, and does not do well if you need to export it into a document for archival purposes.

A Stunningly Beautiful Visual Database

Value for Money

I would absolutely recommend this for many projects, it is fun and easy to set up and use. Perhaps keep the budget analysis for a typical spreadsheet or be prepared to deep dive into the documentation and creative solutions if you want to use Airtable for finances.

Pros

This database allows you to visualize, organize and track the progress of various projects in your personal and professional life. It is fully collaborative, so optimized for group or individual projects, complete with permissions.

Rather than staring at rows of spreadsheet numbers and charcters, you can grasp information within seconds given the graphically oriented database.

There are numerous templates, designs and case studies to help you compile your information in the best way possible. The customer support is excellent and there are tons of tutorials on their Medium blog and on YouTube to help you get the most out of this product. It is fully customizeable for the info and layout you wish to maintain. The pricing is reasonable and the standard free version has great functionality.

Cons

Although it is an awesome database, it is NOT a replacement for Excel for several functions. It resembles a spreadsheet, but you dont have full control over each cell, to format it as you wish. The formulas seem limited or more complicated in comparison to a traditional spreadsheet. You can' truly link databases or info between or within tables freely.

Manipulating numbers becomes a bit awkward in some circumstances.

However, these limitations may possibly improve with time and future upgrades. The more you understand how the software works, you may discover different ways to accomplish your functions on this new platform.

Pros

- Incredibly easy to use. Works well on all browsers.
- Can customize all of my needs within one table, or choose to move them to different work zones.
- LOVE that you can share and collaborate, but it isn't a true spreadsheet (unless you want it to be!)
- SO wonderful for multiple projects and having everything in one place.

Cons

Honestly.... there isn't anything to say here. I don't like to not have any improvements, so maybe the thing that I would recommend is the ability to click on a column and sort immediately from column instead of writing a "if this than that" formula.

Pros

I was invited to work on a project with Airtable recently. With no previous knowledge, I was skeptical of trying something new for project management. After working for a few months with the software I was pleasantly surprised by the wide range of templates and ease of use. Great product for collaboration among small and larger teams. Would recommend to anyone looking for another tool to make team projects run a bit smoother.

Cons

Feels like a mix of a few other project management software, but hard to figure out which ones specifically. Little bit of a learning curve at first, but once you're comfortable it's a lot easier for sharing projects.

Pros

Ease of use is a major pro for airtable - i personally despise spreadsheets and find working in airtable on a daily basis a joy. It is incredibly easy to toggle between types of columns, and the variety of types of fields (check boxes, dates, text, hyperlink, etc.) allowed my team to create a visually powerful table of our products in a very short amount of time.

Cons

For the particular application my team uses airtable, we have found no cons of significance. The one area which is limited would be collaboration and commenting with other users, but given this is a spreadsheet tool this was understandable.

Overall I am a super fan of Airtable - first discovered, fell in love, and told everyone I knew about Airtable 3-4 years ago, IIRC when they first appear on Product Hunt. Build a whole bunch of bases to manage my person life (book list, financial trackers, a large inter-linked base to track 3D printing activities for a local maker space etc.). Stopped using it for awhile because I was focusing on my day job for a few years, before coming back to do side projects and businesses.

Ended up build a tracker for my subscription business, with automated renewal and receipt email generation via Zapier. Airtable is not perfect but it made a non-coder me into someone who can create a solution that’s “almost there”. I always tell people - Airtable can’t do everything (like a fully customized software) but 80% of your need can be satisfied by Airtable with 20% of effort, broadly speaking.

I also love their Customer Services - while it is no longer the Airtable 2-3 years ago where I just chat using the chat tool (Intercom or..?) and ask UX related questions as they come to me (simple questions, not too different from asking a coworker in your office) and even caught the CEO Howie Lou a few times; it is still a very well supported software/ company where the CS team actually know the system really well and does’t just shove canned responses in your face.

Overall, lots of love for Airtable!

Pros

Ease of use, basically a database without the complexity of being one. No more managing of tabulated data via spreadsheet or simple table in word processing software. I also like the fact that I can do data entry in expanded and table views (I have a base called “Ideas”, where each column correspond to an area of interest in idea generation, e.g. Problem, Market, Competition, Elevator Pitch etc. - which the preferred data entry method is in the Expanded Jew; where as for base such as my “Bank Transactions Tracker”, the table field is better.

I also like how they aren’t just focusing on being American (yay to company that bother to cater to ALL date format under the sky) although for some other colum type they haven’t got down to it yet (telephone number etc.).

Personally I am a big fan of the Pro feature Blocks, which I used to create performace dashboards for my freelance subscription business. The Blocks feature is the only reason I opt to pay, although I am paying mostly out of my credits accumulated during the earlier days of Airtable.

Also like the community that’s building on top of it, forum is very active and lots of power users to learn from.

Combine with with other IaaS tool such as Zapier and you get a really powerful tool.

Cons

Insufficient control (can be easy to make mistake such as accidental typing etc.), lack of data validation (upon data entry), and interface could use more customization (e.g. lots of empty/white spaces in Card views, can’t have multiple lines in field header etc.).

We are using it to manage event attendee data, prospects, membership sales, marketing assets, social media post schedules, and more. Its as easy to set up a new database tool as it is to set up a spreadsheet, but much, much more versatile. Since we can set up just the data fields we need, our customer relationship database, in contrast to traditional CRM solutions like Salesforce, Hubspot and Zoho, is easy to navigate and flexibly grows with our needs.

Pros

More than a spreadsheet on steroids, Airtable is a cloud relational database that opens possibilities for improved productivity, creativity, sales and more for companies large and small. Because it is based on number of records, small organizations can take it for a spin for free and grow into it. Need a new feature? chances are its in the works...one of the many benefits of SAAS.

I've found it's formula fields and easy uploads to be invaluable in analyzing, prospecting, collecting relationship-building data, accounting and forecasting for my new and growing business and the local chamber I volunteer for.

Cons

Though based on records, as you add users the price can get quite high for data management, making its competition - a custom SQL database - a better priced option.

Pros

Ease of use. Half-price discounts for nonprofits!

Cons

It is pretty simple but like any software you get out of it what you put into it. Ultimately my small team did not find time to keep it up to date. One person said it was too complicated.

We've used Airtable as a lightweight project management tool, to track partnerships, and track a schedule and content for social media.

Pros

Airtable is a very versatile tool for tracking all kinds of stuff. You can get started very, very quickly using their pre-built templates. Templates exist for pretty much anything you want to do: project management, task tracking, content tracking, schedules, etc. The tool includes Kanban boards and the ability to group by any of your columns. As you work and get a feel for how to best use the tool, you can adjust the templates as needed - and it is generally easy enough to change the structure as you go. Although I have not use them, Airtable also has APIs available so hopefully it will be easy enough to integrate with existing tools.

Cons

While it is very flexible, it is not a replacement for true story and project management tools like Jira. The support for tracking burndown and velocity really isn't there - and I wouldn't use it if it was. Airtable isn't meant to replace formal tools like that. Because I am not in the tool as much as I should be, I do sometimes get lost in trying to find things. You can search for "bases" which are grouped sets of tables - but there really isn't a global content search at the top level. Additionally as of right now, you can not link between bases. That does limit use sometimes when multiple teams are working together - but it can be overcome.

Pros

One of the greatest accomplishments of Airtable has been the re-invention of the spreadsheet. By bringing the web into spreadsheets, along with a very impressive, slick and intuitive interface, they have completely changed my opinions on spreadsheets.

I've used it as a trip planner, as a quick prototyping tool and a shared data entry system. As a developer, it's API documentation is one of the best I've worked with and integrating it has been straightforward.

Cons

Although this is not really a con, rather Airtable's value proposition - the best features of the product are the paid Blocks, which really supercharge any document. However, even as the free tier, Airtable has massive value over traditional spreadsheets.

We originally approached Airtable as a possible low-cost solution for our CRM needs. I loved the customizatibility, the colorful, easy-to-use interface, the library of templates and the integrations with MailChimp and Zapier. Ultimately, Airtable ended up not being able to easily accomadate some CRM features we needed, like lead-scoring and in-program communication with 1-to-1 email and SMS, although I think with some ingenuity and extended Zapier integration, we may even have been able to achieve that. We also found it difficult to design the kind of comprehensive reporting we need for analysis.

We continue to use Airtable for simpler database needs, and it's a pleasure to work in. If you're looking for a database application, you owe it to yourself to at least give Airtable a try.

Pros

Colorful, easily-understood interface
It's incredibly customizable
The broad range of available integrations
It's low-cost/free
The included library of pre-built and customizable templates

Cons

The automation functions were limited
Missing some communication features I've come to expect from a CRM
Some trouble configuring views

Pros

For what it does better than other spreadsheet software, it does much better than other spreadsheet software. For what it does the same as other spreadsheet software, it does just as well.

As a sort of mix between a traditionally accessible spreadsheet and a database, Airtable hits a sweet spot really delivers value to my organization. The ability to visualize and connect so many elements in one place that is accessible from anywhere is a real game changer. I've only been using the software for a few months, but it can see why they got their $50 million in seed funding.

Cons

I'm a bit nervous about using the software too heavily. The company is new and, if they go away, I will be left with a lot of work that will, at best, have limited functionality.

With that said, they allow you to export your tables/bases to CSV, but I have not had any experience doing that yet, so I don't know how well it actually works. No matter how well it works though, if things go bad, the CSV file will not have the same functionality that their hybrid system offers.

I haven't checked if they do, but I would feel a lot less uneasy if they had a local app or 'community build' that would allow you to view/edit your bases/tables off their servers.

The actual functionality of the software is great.
