Basecamp Software

Basecamp is a real-time communication tool that helps teams stay on the same page; it’s less for traditional project management tasks (e.g., resource planning and long-term scheduling). With to-do-lists, calendaring, due dates and file-sharing, Basecamp provides a way for teams to keep track of priorities and actionable items.

Since 2004, Basecamp has focused on developing a simple interface in which users can create projects, document progress and manage tasks. It is a web-based software, allowing users to sign in anywhere, any time, either through a web browser or through apps compatible with a large number of mobile devices.

Not specific to a single industry, Basecamp can be deployed by any organization that needs to manage a group, including nonprofits, startups and client service firms—and it can even be used by freelancers. Subscriptions are scalable, with tiers for varying amounts of storage and numbers of users.

Very organized solution for project management and email communication. Would recommend.

Pros

Integrates with MSFT Office, Fuze, Slack... wasn’t around to install. Just a user and it is very intuitive and organized.

Cons

Difficult at times when users can’t access content because they don’t have permissions. Can be confusing for first time users.

Basecamp works really well for our team. It is how we make sure everyone is on the same page with projects and it is the main hub where we share information.

Pros

- Create to-do lists for projects or clients to keep team on track
- Assign tasks directly to team members so everyone knows their role
- Keep files/work product saved with to-dos and lists

Cons

- Sub-tasks sometimes hard to organize as lists only have one "sub-menu" option--sometimes have to "hack" the list capabilities to drill down into project sub-tasks

Pros

It is an awesome tool. It allows messaging within and outside the teams, storing files, assigning tasks and many more.

It could have been better there is a pop-up message on the screen you'll receive when a task assigned to you is about to be overdue. Aside from that, the tool is perfect.

Overall, Basecamp is a great project management tool for those that need a tool to collect and house bits and pieces of a project that is being worked on collectively. The ability to attach documents and images is very useful. Additionally, having the ability to take notes and check items off as they are completed is hands down the best feature of the program.

Pros

It's a great way to gather your team's content so everyone can view/use it collaboratively in one area. There is no going back and forth from emails to desktop looking for pieces of the project. The ability to categorize projects and segments of projects is highly useful. Easy to use!

Cons

There's a lot going on visually. A bit distracting. There is no way to track time of a project which could be very useful. You're email inbox is constantly ringing every time someone changes/updates/adds content if you don't change the settings. This can be avoided once you go into settings but annoying nonetheless.

I strongly recommend this software if you are looking for ease of use and large number of users.

Pros

As title says it, the software is very affordable because it can be deployed to an unlimited number of users, while others charge per user and become unaffordable for larger groups. It is also very very easy to use

Cons

I wish it offered better project management views of the data, as it was hard to find the tickets sometimes and track progress.

Project Management - Work Collaboratively with your Team

Ease-of-use

Functionality

Product Quality

Customer Support

Value for Money

Pros

I like Basecamp because it's very effective especially if your team is working remotely while finishing a project. It's a collaborative tool that lets you interact with other members real time because of its advanced collaborative features such as messaging, real time notifications, and task assignments. As an administrator, I can assign employees to which project they will be working on. I can announce instructions and reminders where everyone in my team can read. I can create folders within a project and attach files and notes. I can assign a task which goes to a page and will see any update and notes from that person . I will be notified on any message from that task. Once done, I can close it immediately. and see how long it took for my agent to finish a certain task. Basecamp can also be installed in your mobile so you can still work while outside and finishing a field work.

Cons

I would like to suggest reports or data can be extracted per project or group. Daily report such as cases closed and overdue cases. Reports which management can track and see a status of a project and assess if deadline can be met. Reports that can give an overview of a project and any progress made.

Basecamp is one of the most straight-forward and easy to use internal social platform and project management resource. Setting up projects and resources is easy for all of our team members, who agree that Basecamp is one of the better platforms we've used.

Cons

Being installed on a cloud, the document upload times are slower than we'd expect. Also, if someone is in the field without an internet connection, they can't update the project status until they reconnect to a mobile or Wifi network.

Multiple different projects I've been part of have chosen basecamp as their collaboration tool, and for the most part, it's worked pretty well for what it does. The problem is that it's multiple different groups, and I can't necessarily use my work email for volunteer projects or vice versa, and because it is such an extensive tool, it's difficult to keep track of where things are, which group is using which functionality, and it just doesn't work well enough to be my 'main' tool, so I'm sure I haven't learned all the best features.

It's pretty good at what it does though. A centralized place to keep track of your project, great collaboration tools, easy way to get a concensus on an idea or plan, great reminders (though easy to overdo, don't remember if you can tweak, but I remember getting tons of reminders for things I didn't 'need' to know mixed in with several I did 'need' to get without an obvious way to tell how to filter between the two).

Pros

Collaboration, notifications of things to do, features like polls and a single place to organize for a project

Cons

Since I have multiple types of projects with multiple different groups, this always ends up being just 'another' thing to log into. If I recall, I couldn't really segment things enough to keep work, personal, volunteer stuff separated, so had multiple logins and it was just clunky to keep track.

Have used it on a writing team as a team member. I received assignments and reported on their progress using the tool. It was great to keep the group's work all in one place. Was probably more helpful for the manager than the users, but, it served its purpose.

Pros

It is user-friendly and has all the key functions you'd expect in a project management software. Great for small teams and can function cross-team. Company makes updates by adding additional features which may or may not be helpful depending on the needs of your team.

Cons

Tasks can't be allocated to multiple people and time cannot be tracked. It's a great simple tool with ease of use, but if you'd like your project management to be more granular and specific, this may not be the tool for you.

Overall, Basecamp has been a delight to us. It is easy, convenient, and great at helping keep our organization on the same page. Would highly recommend.

Pros

Basecamp makes it exceptionally easy to upload and coordinate large scale projects for groups. We have had a lot of success keeping people on track by regularly using this software.

Cons

Honestly, there is very little I dislike about Basecamp. If anything, it is the (seemingly) constant emails I get when there is activity on our project. I am certain I could opt-out/in of these by adjusting my settings, though.
