ShopKeep is an iPad-based POS for retail businesses, restaurants, bars, franchises and quick-serve businesses. The multi-feature solution offers tools to manage registrations, booking, marketing, inventory, staff, and payments. The touch screen interface allows users to add and remove orders from the wish list. Users can also scan barcodes for adding items to the shopping cart.

ShopKeep offers a built-in register to keep track of checks and payments. Users can maintain multiple payment registers and split, merge or transfer payments between different accounts. With ShopKeep, retailers can manage large inventories and configure alerts for items to ensure that they never run out of adequate stocks.

ShopKeep also offers tools to track employee working hours and calculate their weekly and monthly payroll. Business owners can clock in and out their staff for different shifts and know their exact working hours. The software also offers the provision to generate and add gift cards and promo codes. ShopKeep integrates with multiple marketing tools as well as lets users create reports and analyze business data to find trends.

The software is easy to get set up and started with and is simple to use as an every day solution from there on. Customer service is also fantastic.

Cons

I’ve had quite a few issues with this software crashing or glitching. I also would have to say that for the price I haven’t been impressed with the extent of the features offered.

I think if you’re just starting out, they’ll definitely hold your hand throughout the initial training process. Once you get the hand of it, you’ll want more, so hopefully they update their system to include more options.

Pros

So far with all the POS systems I’ve tried, I feel that this one has the most responsive and helpful customer service.

Cons

Though it’s a major name brand in the field, what it allows and doesn’t allow me to do is pretty mediocre. Expected a bit more freedom in features.

This system is easy to use and, yes, there are always a few features that I would personally like different, but others may not see the need.

Pros

Easy to add/change products and update on POS within a minute. Color buttons is also a nice plus for the layout of categories.

Cons

The tip and sign line is not on one screen for customer use. Sometimes the screen will freeze and revert to manual card entry and so you have to reboot to slide the card again.

Great app, if you don't have an iPad is worth buying one, just to be able to have shopkeep on your store.

Pros

This software is so easy to set up and use. You need to invest in some equipments to be able to accept cards and read codes but it's so worth the money. Not only you can manadge your inventory online but you also have many tools in the app, like charts to make it easy to visualize how your business is doing. Not to mention that it looks so much better in your store than the usual big equipments with to s of cables.

Cons

This software is great. It's made to work with an iPad, so, the only con I can find is that they could develop a version for android, so it can be used with any tablet.

Pros

We use ShopKeep for our POS system currently. Very simple to use. The buttons have coloring options to make product differentiation/identification easy.

Cons

Back end work to create inventory is cumbersome without a scanner. Entering different dollar amounts is sticky/tricky because the cursor must be over the field to enter the amount. A slight issue.

Don’t waste your money!

There are much better systems out there! Please don’t waste your time with shopkeep. I’ve had them for 2 years now and I’m always having issues.

Pros

The ONLY good thing about shopkeep is that you are able to choose your own merchant services! Nobody will let you have your choice!

Cons

1. You have to pay for each register per month!
2. If the internet goes down then you have a useless system and there is no way for you to continue business.
3. The system will probably just stop freeze in the printer was just disconnect.
4. When you call them try their best to help but it only covers up the problem but they NEVER FIX it!

The user interface of Shopkeep is well designed and very intuitive. It is easy to set up products, pricing, promotions, discounts, branded receipts, etc. I helped set up ShopKeep for a client, and it was very easy to train seasonal employees on the system.

I can not think of anything negative about this system if you need a very turnkey, out-of-the-box POS solution.

Inventory management is decent, but I've heard that other more popular Pos systems have caught up on that.

Cons

Lacks basic functionality, no voiding a transaction. Freezes up regularly. Can't get in touch with support, when you do, they're useless. Forces updates at the worst time with no benefit to the update. The company clearly doesn't care about their customers wants or business needs.

Pros

Keeps track of inventory; I used to buy things I didn't need. Now I get a list from ShopKeep that tells me what I need to re-order.
I have a customer loyalty program that's easy to keep track of with ShopKeep.
This company is always working to improve their systems.

Cons

In order to use the keyboard on the tablet you have to turn off the scanner. So you're constantly turning it on and off.
No layaway program in the system, which the salesman told me was there.
UPC labels I've created with this system don't always scan.

Major hardware issues with 30% price increase

We used Shopkeep now for over three years and i have been really happy with the app itself, however, their Ingnecio IP320 credit card machine has been nothing but trouble. The WI-FI connection between the CC machine and the iPad keeps dropping, 10-20 times per day. We changed machines twice and followed support suggestions to the T and we still have issues. There nothing worse that having your CC machine down when you have a line of customers. Last week, I was at my favorite coffee place in town, that uses shopkeep, and they were having the same issue. The employees were so frustrated, they were giving free coffee drinks. The problem is that the Ingencio IPP machines are the only machines that work with shopkeep. We are currently looking at another POS company. Also, We were given the ultimatum between having our credit cards processed through them or pay 30% more in monthly fees.

Pros

I think the initial programing and setting up the system was easy. The system itself is easy to use

Cons

The only credit card machine that works with the system is unrealiable and constantly loses connection

We enjoyed using shoopkeep for about a year and half as a gateway to bringing our very 1900's music store into the 21st. After we realized we could actually do business on a system I started looking for something with more integrated features.

Pros

Very easy to train on. The "back office" web portal interface is also very common sense to work with and has all the features you would need for maybe a gift shop or cafe sort of operation. Great cash tracking ability. Great features like pop ups that suggest add on / up size discounts to the clerk.

Cons

Not sophisticated enough for a business model that has multiple streams of business like services, rentals, classes, lessons. The iPad based idea is cool but it means that all peripherals end up being Bluetooth which isn't as stable as you might want for POS hardware.

The software and hardware is not bad, and I would recommend this to anyone as long as they would be able to configure the network and point of sales themselves. I was brought in as a consultant for a string of stores all using the shopkeep system on the same network. The issue they were having was that each point of sale had it's own printer a total of 7 P.O.S.'s and 7 printers, and if more than 3 mac addresses were on the network the printers would start disconnecting. After calling shopkeep support I was told the internet connection didnt have enough upload speed. This made me chuckle why a local printer would care about the WAN connection speed. If the printers do depend on the internet speed to work then turning the modem off should render all printers inoperative, but it doesn't. After having my issue escalated and speaking to the advanced support lead I was still being told an internet speed of 25m down and 4m up was too slow of an upload speed. Frustrated I let them think that I would tell the owner to buy a faster internet package from her ISP, but I didnt. I broke up their single LAN network into 4 broadcast domains with the addition of 3 more routers for a total of 4 routers. Surprise surprise it works fine now, I wish we could have gotten to the root cause of why no more than 3 shopkeep point of sales and 3 printers could operate. But all shopkeep support thinks is a WAN internet speed determines if a local printer stays connected.

Pros

The back office management software makes inventory and sales easy to track and use with quickbooks.

Cons

The support for the product, there is a fundamental networking knowledge gap with the technical support department of the company.

It is down constantly. We have been down for 4 weeks straight! Can't use the credit card reader, print receipts, have to open cash drawer manually. They blame it on everything, and everyone, but themselves. No followup, no return calls. They have no trouble drawing our annual charges while the system doesn't work, however.

Pros

The biggest pro to ShopKeep is that it is incredibly intuitive and easy to learn. All buttons and options are exactly where you would expect them, and everything else is programmable from the backend. ShopKeep is so well designed that you could learn the ins and outs within a single shift if you were a new worker. Because of the ease of use, ShopKeep undoubtedly sped up transactions and kept the line moving. Furthermore, the information that a user has access to through the backend is absolutely stupendous. Much of the information is the exact information that you would want to know, or would even go to lengths to calculate yourself, yet ShopKeep does it all automatically.

Cons

Easily, what I liked least about this software is that it often fails to store transactions when offline. Now, this ordinarily wouldn't be an issue (or even an expectation with these sorts of softwares), but, when a company advertises this as a main feature it is a little annoying when it doesn't work so often. This issue has led to many lost transactions or less importantly, having to chase down customers to redo the transaction.

The sheer amount of customization and reporting options, more reports than i've ever seen in a cloud based POS. POS screen is very easy to use and navigate. POS screen is one of the best I have ever use period. Lots of integration options available as well.

Cons

The Pros above are also its Cons. Because their is so much detail in this program it can become very overwhelming for someone with a small amount of pos experience. there are reports on reports on reports, While all the information is great it can be overkill for people who don't need it.

Reliable POS that is easy to use

Pros

Super easy and intuitive for new hires to use and get comfortable with quickly. Easy to create new items and to create all the reports I need. Especially love the Pocket app so I can keep track of things even when away from the brewery.

Cons

The cost. The monthly fee, terminal fees and then other adds on make it a little pricier than I'd like it to be.

It "worked". I could use it as a POS, but any other feature was JUNK.

Pros

it was fairly simple to set up and use and fairly easy to train people on the system. Tech support was Ok, the folks were always nice and friendly, but they also were kneecapped by the ridiculous limitations of the program. I found it WAY more frustrating than it was worth.

PS if you do decide to go with the program (which I don't suggest), spend the time on ebay to purchase the equipment used. I saved money!! (I think you are required to use their card swiper, but that may have changed).

Cons

the reports on the back end (which you may not realize are CRUCIAL) are junk. And no matter how many times I made a suggestion, nothing ever changed. They kept sending me "satisfaction surveys" and I would write in the survey, "I don't know why I am filling this out, no one will contact me for at least 4 months!" and most times, no one EVER contacted me, even though I gave detailed information about my dissatisfaction with the product.

Even the techs in tech support were extremely frustrated with the limitations of the system. As an example, there is a way to set various tax levels (in my state, the tax on prepared food is different than regular sales tax), but then there is no way to detect how much was paid in for each tax. There was a work-around, but that took at least half an hour each month, which as most people know, is an enormous amount of time to waste for a small business owner.

I can honestly say that I was frustrated every single day for two years by the limitations of the software. I WOULD NOT recommend this program!

There are a couple of sync issues they're unable to fix. Discover doesn't sync with other CC types; Gift Cards sync as regular sales although they're set to sync to a Gift Card Liability account (payments work, sales don't) . Customer Support doesn't seem to comprehend these problems which are easy to fix in QB. The only sync options are to SK-accounts so all payments have to be moved to Undeposited Funds to create deposits in QB.

ShopKeep is easy to set up from the get-go, which is important for a small business owner who has just opened and simply needs a way to process customer payments and organize retail products. Customers are pretty familiar with the experience of purchasing products through ShopKeep, which keeps transactions moving smoothly, however their system for linking cards to telephone numbers/past customers is not as smooth as Square's system.

Cons

Because ShopKeep offers so many different ways to enter in retail products, this can actually be a problem for users because tings can quickly get disorganized. We've also encountered issues with ShopKeep not wanting to scan credit cards, which has forced our team to manually enter the cards (this can create higher user error). We also do not prefer the mobile app version of ShopKeep compared to Square and only use the ShopKeep system in our brick-and-mortar retail store.

Cloud Based, iPad based, user friendly but that's about it, nothing much else. No transparency, no follow-up this system is terrible.

Cons

Filled with inventory tracking bugs. For example, when receiving inventory and pressing save once, it will often update twice and double what you show in stock. When calling customer service to resolve this issue, they say they will get back to you and never do. I'm still waiting for a response from March 2017! Today I'm working on receiving more inventory into the system and have had 2 for 2 errors happen. Received 12 pieces into inventory, hit save, it shows 1. Why? Just now I received 2 pillows, hit save, and it shows I have 41 pillows. If your system can't do basic math then why do I need it? Who has time to be on the phone with the help desk 4 times when trying to accomplish 2 tasks?

I love how easy it is to add products to my store, track whats hot thats selling, and also replenish my inventory.

Cons

It is rather pricey and the swipers that they use (ingenico ipp 320's) are very expensive. Although customer support is 24/7 it was hard to get a hold of a rep at certain times.

It is really easy to use. As a small business owner, I really like how inexpensive the soft ware is.

Pros

What I like most about shop keep is how simple it is to use. It is very user friendly. It is also very inexpensive, compared to most soft ware systems.

Cons

There are not many things that I do not like about shop keep. If I had to choose one, it would be that I have to charge my ipad. Haha, I know that is not a valid complaint, but because it is cloud based, I use an Ipad and Ipad's need to be charged.

I liked how easy it was to set up and onboard users to run it, and that the pricing is pretty decent.

Cons

Lacks some features that other POS software ipad apps have, and the design is pretty bad. Switched to a competitor pretty quickly.

If you are a person who starts with your own company, I highly recommend using ShopKeep, it is very easy to use and it will help you a lot since managing your point of sale from an iPad is a marvel

Pros

Since I heard about Shop Keep and its functionality in a simple iPad I decided to try it and I have never repented, I have been using this valuable tool for a couple of months, which has given a solution for my mobile sales points with which I sell in bazaars

Cons

As a recommendation I would ask ShopKeep to keep up to date, as well as the iOs is updated every year you keep on trend with an increasingly better functionality
