Skype for Business Software


 

Skype for Business is a hybrid voice messaging solution that enables teams and individuals across the world to communicate and collaborate. It offers both cloud-based and on-premise solutions.

This solution allows users to interact via text messaging, audio and high-definition (HD) video communication. It supports collaboration through video conferencing that can support multiple people using phone or internet.With Skype for Business, online meetings can also be recorded for use later on. Since the solution is tightly integrated with Microsoft Office applications, it enables users to share files and make presentations on the call.

Users can view the online status of their contacts and schedule meetings with them through Microsoft Outlook. They can also start a conversation from other Microsoft applications, such as Word or PowerPoint.

Skype for Business facilitates texting and calling to mobile and landline phones. Other important features include support for third-party dial-in and the ability to remotely control others’ desktops.

Services are offered on a monthly subscription basis that includes support via email and an online knowledge base.

It's included in the Microsoft suite which is good enough. It's nowhere near as useful as Slack for instance but the fact that it's part of our Microsoft domain is solid. We use it to chat across our large offices. Great on Windows machines.

Cons

Clunky and non intuitive UI. Sometimes not happy on iPhones which is a must for a chat product. Typical microsoft problems.

It's included with my Microsoft 365 package, so it didn't cost me anything additional and since Skype is pretty well known, my team & clients never have a problem using it.

Cons

I hear it's expensive for credits outside of the Microsoft 365 subscription for businesses. That could be an issue if you needed to use it with someone who doesn't have the credits

Pros

The amount of platforms you can use Skype on. Your phone, tablet, game console, smart Tv. I think another Pro is how easy it is to sign up, links to social media and email.

The background noises pick up easily.. There should be more language options for people who rather speak in native language. They can probably enhance sound quality as well.

I had a job interview that was supposed to be held over Skype. She was unable to initialize it on her end I really believe that was a determining factor. Maybe it would have gone better if we were face to face. This is the only time it failed me.

Cons

If I disconnect my computer from it's dock and then reconnect, the default audio/video communication devices in Skype reset to my monitor and I need to reconfigure it.

I've been using it for years now, and I have no regrets of using Skype for Business. It EASY TO USE for arranging meetings and conferences over the Skype. Its features are remarkable. Functions are Great.
1) Video and Audio is so clear, and allows me to talk at the same time with more than 200 persons, although my meetings are not as big as its features, what I am saying here is it can be used by big organizations.
2) Allows me to share my screen with my colleagues in other offices to show them the program I am working on, so they could help me if I'm stuck as well.
It's a PERFECT Business IM solution that allows everyone to remain efficient by not having to pick-up the phone or send e-mail for basic questions.

Cons

It requires excellent connection when using it. Video result is great if you have a great connection too. But, Overall for me it is a blessing. It's features and functions are all amazing. There is nothing bad about it.

It's the software the company chose to use internally. Overall it's good for what it is. The screen sharing capabilities alone make it worth using, and integration with our email system is pretty good. Clunky sharing files sometimes, and annoying that I can't get it on my phone without administrative help (usually down on the bottom of the list, if it is approved at all). Without external access for when you've stepped away from your desk, the email notification is an okay backup, but that doesn't give you enough info, aside from 'missed conversation' after several minutes.

Aside from those issues, it's actually work it for me to use other tools for communicating with co-workers because we can integrate other tools into other platforms, like external notifications, todo lists, integration with ticketing systems, etc.

The best parts of skype's services is that it offers a universally accepts Chat/Phone service over the internet, that everyone in business is aware of. This makes it easy to say "Hey, what's your skype?" and usually people will let you know how to add them. Skype makes it easy among coworkers to send quick messages to gain information or ask questions, without having to pick up the phone. This makes business a bit more productive, by eliminating the 15 minute conversations, for questions that only take 5 minutes.

Cons

Skype can be a finicky at times, and has issues that are very strange, and often seem like there is no solution for them. For example, often Skype will say that a user is offline, when they are really online, when this happens they will not receive messages, and it can be a real hassle. There still does not seem to be a permanent "that will fix it" solution, as most of the time it resolves it self after a lengthy amount of time.

Pros

first of all, Skype for Business is very impressive when we know the architecture to implement (networks, servers...). We can do anything with it : Instant Message, Call, do meeting, etc... getting data from outlook to warn users than you are busy or not.

Cons

is very slow to open. all features are not very responsive, often we have to wait about 2 seconds or more to have the window on the screen or text appear. This is not a problem of network or computer or servers.

Overall experience has been bad and I'd buy some other tool for online conferencing.

Pros

One thing I like about the tool is it forgets all the conversations that happened between people. So, it's a good tool for very casual conversations if you ever want to do that.

Cons

I've been using Skype for business for many years. I've also used many other video/audio/text tools like Zoom, UberConference, Slack and almost all other tools are much better.
The biggest problem is that it has two versions- one for business and one for personal use. This creates a lot of issues while connecting with someone outside the country.

Ideal for collaborating with internal participants & vendors. And also love the ability to see status of folks in who are in my network but beyond the walls of business.

Comes bundled with rest of the Microsoft suite of products & integrates really well with outlook and other tools. Easy embed plugin with outlook is great for setting up meetings for both internal & external participants. Makes perfect sense in scenarios where IT departments have strict firewall configurations and it's hard to use IM tools like Jabber, Slack or web conferencing solutions like Webex, Join.me. Ideal for screen share & hosting multiple participants.

Cons

No record option to record meetings, especially ones with video+ppt share. Collaboration can be made more seamless by offering participants to annotate particular sections of screenshare. Would love to see more features around collaboration, over & above usual screen share. Including voting & survey options. Should be a one-stop-shop for all my meeting needs.

Would like to see integration with Linkedin & automatic import of contacts.

We are a small team working in a health clinic that uses this software to message each other quick notes without having to leave our stations.

Pros

I like how well this software works, and how consistent it is when working with a small team. It's fairly easy to setup and begin instant messaging, and works instantly.

Cons

I least like how the Mac application works compared to the PC version. It's sometimes hard to remember how to instant message with multiple people at one time, and confusing to know that if you add a person, whether or not the entire group will see all previous messages in the text string before adding them to the group.

It's easy to use the tool and more people/clients are using Skype.

Cons

I sit in a cubicle work environment and when I'm on skype at my desk, the white noise is so "loud" that it's difficult for whoever I'm speaking to to understand what I'm saying.

Skype came to change the way we communicate inside the company, and with other companies, right now and so much time before today. Is simple, accessible, and for business is just perfect.

Cons

It's been improving from time to time. So, no cons for Skype.
