About Proctorio

Proctorio is a remote exam monitoring solution that lets businesses in the education, corporate, and government sectors conduct exam proctoring, originality verification and plagiarism detection using machine learning technology.

The application uses facial detection capability to capture students' IDs and images, record them in Proctorio Gradebook, allowing instructors to review and flag anomalies. It provides a data analytics module, which allows administrators to spot trends, create usage reports, filter activities based on departments or courses and manage exam parameters or faculty controls.

Proctorio provides an application programming interface, which allows developers to integrate the system with several third-party applications such as Blackboard, Canvas, Questionmark, Top Hat and more. Pricing is available on request and support is extended via live chat, FAQs, email and knowledgebase.

Proctorio

Proctorio does a great job at preventing cheating in as many ways possible and protects students for cheaters which ensures that everyone is taking their exams under the same conditions, creating equity for students.

Pros:

Proctorio is great at ensuring that all students are taking their exams under the same conditions and that none have any unfair advantages.

Cons:

Students get frustrated with learning how to use. Specially when they have to scan their ID cars but they eventually figure it out.

Wonderful for remote Exams

Overall this is a fantastic program to phase out in-person test proctoring and get the same or better results in test scores and violations.

Pros:

The aspect I like most is the ability to test remotely and without another person present. I have test anxiety and using this program I know the rules and what to expect without variable from human error.

Cons:

I think the worst part about using this software is that when trying to take an exam, you must be on a specific type of internet connection. I always have problems when using a hotspot like used with cell phones. I found this is because the IP address is not a static IP and is tied to a location.

We found Proctorio at the beginning of COVID to allow us to take our entire campus remote during the pandemic. We continue to utilize Proctorio as an affordable option that our faculty and students have been satisfied with.

The implementation team was amazing and the support team follows up each quarter with usage data and reports statistics on all support provided to students and faculty.

Cons:

Proctorio meets our needs and have not really discovered any cons for us meeting our requirements.

Reasons for switching to Proctorio

Our previous provider used live proctors. It was much more expensive and penalized students for not scheduling their exams in advance.

Pros:

The integration of the product as an add-on to my browser makes it very accessible and easy to use. The screen recording and proctoring functions of Proctorio have enabled me to participate in exams that I would otherwise need to schedule and appointment and move my schedule around for. It also allowed me to complete my degree during a global shutdown when everything transitioned to online.

Cons:

There were times when I would have to uninstall and reinstall the software because it was not activating properly. Otherwise the actual function works quite well.

Pros:

This software is largely easy to use on any computer, quick to install, and straightforward in install and set up.

Cons:

Their customer service is terrible. Students are directed to contact them directly for tech support, and when I reached out letting the team know I was facing an issue and had attempted all basic troubleshooting, they told me they didn’t know how to help further and closed the chat. Luckily I had another computer on which to take the test, but had I not been so fortunate I would have failed the class in question.

Pros:

Proctorio is very functional and works like a charm in most things. Proctorio keeps tests secure and monitored the students clearly.

Cons:

Proctorio can sometimes “bug out” with chrome and have issues starting and functioning during tests. The issues are few, but can cause devastation for some students.

Proctorio more like Proctori-yes

I have had a great experience with Proctorio. Before I only heard about how much my peers hated it, I'm guessing it was because of the Covid year, but I went in and I love it. It is so much easier and less stressful than the alternative options. Proctorio is much more convenient and flexible for me to use.

Pros:

I like the flexibility of being able to take my exams whenever and wherever I want. It helps me accommodate already stressful exams into my busy schedule. I also prefer to test alone, something I could not do without Proctorio.

Cons:

I get a little more stressed than I do with regular testing because I am worried about being flagged for doing something like fidgeting or gazing off into the distance even though I am not cheating.

I likes that Proctorio offers a way to take exams in the comfort of your home and gives your professors the confidence of a testing center. It us an easy way to regulate testing.

Cons:

If you do not have a proper internet connection Proctorio will not work. You need to have a land line connection, it cannot be a phone or satellite connection to the internet, which is frustrating.

Pros:

Proctorio is well-designed, easy to use, and student friendly. The required Chrome extension is easy to install and non-invasive. The company's privacy/security policies are very transparent and written in plain English. Students rarely run into technical issues, but if they do, Proctorio support is readily available via chat. Overall, compared to competing products, Proctorio does not add stress to the test-taking experience for students.

Cons:

The tools for instructors to review students' recorded test sessions are a bit unintuitive for some instructors.
