### Our Analysis of Gusto's Pricing Plans

We've dug deep into Gusto's payroll and HR software pricing plans to help you determine which option aligns best with your company's needs and budget. We've also outlined the key advantages and limitations of each plan.

Gusto provides three primary pricing tiers: the Simple Plan, the Plus Plan, and the Premium Plan. In addition to these three, there is also a Contractor Only Plan. Each tier is tailored to accommodate businesses of different...

sizes and complexities, and grasping the nuances of each is essential for making a well-informed choice. \*\*Simple Plan\*\* Gusto's Simple Plan is tailored for new businesses and startups with employees in a single state. At $49 per month plus $6 per person, it offers an affordable entry point into payroll management. \*\*Pros:\*\* - \*\*Budget-friendly:\*\* The low monthly base fee and per-person cost make it accessible for small businesses with tight budgets. - \*\*Streamlined setup:\*\* Designed for single-state payroll, it simplifies the onboarding process for new users. - \*\*Essential features:\*\* Provides core payroll functionalities to meet the needs of small teams. \*\*Cons:\*\* - \*\*Limited scalability:\*\* As businesses expand to multiple states, they may quickly outgrow this plan. - \*\*Basic functionality:\*\* Lacks advanced features like built-in time tracking and HR tools, which growing businesses may require. - \*\*Minimal support:\*\* Doesn't include the dedicated success liaison offered in the Premium Plan, leaving users to navigate the system independently. \*\*Plus Plan\*\* The Plus Plan, at $80 per month plus $12 per person, caters to businesses operating across two or more states. It introduces time tracking and HR tools to support more complex payroll needs. \*\*Pros:\*\* - \*\*Multi-state coverage:\*\* Enables businesses to manage payroll efficiently across multiple states. - \*\*Time-saving tools:\*\* Built-in time tracking and HR features streamline workforce management processes. - \*\*Expanded functionality:\*\* Offers a more comprehensive set of tools compared to the Simple Plan, supporting business growth. \*\*Cons:\*\* - \*\*Increased costs:\*\* The higher base fee and per-person cost may strain the budgets of smaller businesses. - \*\*Learning curve:\*\* Additional features may require more time for users to master, especially for those transitioning from the Simple Plan. - \*\*Potential overkill:\*\* Businesses with straightforward payroll needs may find the extra features unnecessary. \*\*Premium Plan\*\* Gusto's Premium Plan, priced at $180 per month plus $22 per person, targets businesses with complex payroll requirements. It includes a dedicated success liaison for personalized support. \*\*Pros:\*\* - \*\*White-glove service:\*\* The dedicated success liaison provides individualized assistance, ensuring smooth payroll management. - \*\*Comprehensive solution:\*\* Offers the most extensive set of features to handle intricate payroll scenarios. - \*\*Scalability:\*\* Accommodates businesses with more sophisticated needs as they grow and evolve. \*\*Cons:\*\* - \*\*Steep pricing:\*\* The high monthly base fee and per-person cost may be prohibitive for many small and medium-sized businesses. - \*\*Potential underutilization:\*\* Smaller businesses may not fully leverage the advanced features, leading to a lower return on investment. - \*\*Dependency on support:\*\* Reliance on the dedicated success liaison may create challenges if that individual becomes unavailable or the business needs to downgrade plans. \*\*Add-ons and Integrations\*\* Gusto offers various add-ons and integrations, such as Secureframe, Xero, Practice Ignition, and Okta, among others. These additional services typically start at around $46 to $55 per month, allowing businesses to extend Gusto's functionality to meet their specific needs. \*\*Conclusion\*\* After analyzing Gusto's pricing structure, it's evident that they offer a range of plans designed to cater to businesses of various sizes and complexities. - \*\*For startups and small businesses:\*\* The Simple Plan is an attractive option, providing essential payroll features at an affordable price point. However, as a business grows and expands into multiple states, the limitations of this plan may become apparent. The Plus Plan offers a more comprehensive solution, with additional HR tools and multi-state payroll capabilities, making it a better fit for businesses experiencing growth. - \*\*For larger enterprises:\*\* The Premium Plan is the ideal choice for companies with more intricate needs. The higher price tag is justified by the dedicated support and personalized guidance provided by a success liaison. This plan ensures that complex payroll and HR requirements are met with efficiency and expertise. Ultimately, the decision lies in carefully evaluating your company's current needs, growth trajectory, and budget. By aligning these factors with Gusto's pricing plans, you can select the option that best supports your business's financial well-being and long-term objectives. It's crucial to consider not only your present circumstances but also your anticipated growth, ensuring that the chosen plan can scale alongside your organization.

Still the Best HR & Payroll Tool — Even Better Over Time

5

We've been with Gusto for a while now and it continues to be one of the best decisions we made for managing HR and payroll. It's reliable, easy to use, and the team has clearly been working on improvements. For any small to mid-sized business looking for an all-in-one HR and payroll solution, I'd still highly recommend it without hesitation.

Pros:

After using Gusto for even longer now, I'm still really impressed. The payroll automation has gotten smoother and the employee self-service portal keeps getting better. Our team loves being able to access their pay stubs and W-2s without any help from us. The onboarding flow for new hires has also improved noticeably — it saves us so much time. Customer support has been more responsive lately too, which makes a big difference.

Cons:

The pricing is still a bit steep for smaller businesses, and I wish some of the more advanced features were available on the lower tier plans. Occasionally the system runs a little slow during peak times like payroll processing days. Nothing that's made us consider switching, but areas they could still improve on

Gusto review

5

Overall, my experience with Gusto was very positive. It is an easy-to-use and efficient platform that works especially well for small to mid-sized companies looking for a streamlined payroll and HR solution. The system simplifies payroll processing, onboarding, benefits administration, and employee self-service, which saves a significant amount of administrative time. While it may have some limitations for larger or more complex organizations, it provides a strong user experience, reliable automation, and solid customer support for companies seeking an all-in-one HR and payroll platform.

3

Functionality

Pros:

Gusto was very user-friendly and intuitive for both administrators and employees. The platform made payroll processing, onboarding, benefits administration, and tax filings simple and streamlined. I also liked the clean interface, automated workflows, employee self-service features, and the ease of managing payroll and benefits in one centralized system. Customer support was responsive, and the implementation process was straightforward compared to larger HRIS/payroll platforms.

Cons:

One downside of Gusto was that it can feel somewhat limited for growing or more complex organizations. Reporting customization and advanced HR/payroll configurations were not as robust as larger enterprise systems. Certain integrations and workflows also lacked flexibility, and support for more complex benefits administration, compliance tracking, or multi-state/international operations could be challenging as the company scaled.

Reasons for choosing Gusto

Thought it was better, still went with paycom after a year.

Pros:

Gusto is easy to use and provides a solid payroll solution for small businesses. Payroll processing, employee onboarding, and tax filings are easy and efficient. Their customer support was responsive and helpful whenever questions or issues came up. The overall value is strong compared to similar payroll providers, offering a good balance of features and cost.

Cons:

While Gusto generally works well, some advanced features and integrations may not be as robust as those offered by larger company focused payroll services. As a small business user, this wasn't an issue, but businesses with more complex HR or payroll requirements may eventually outgrow some of the platform's capabilities.

Reasons for choosing Gusto

Paycor was more costly and did not have very good reviews.

Reasons for switching to Gusto

I manage a small business Gusto was more cost effective.

Cons:

At times, the app can feel slow or experience errors. While I love the trotting pig, it feels like a bit of a wheel-of-doom and I find myself needing to close out and re-open the app. The other issue I have is with the time-off feature. It doesn't always load, so you need to close + reopen, and then when submitting the time it can revert from "PTO" to "Sick Leave" without you noticing until it's been submitted.

I enjoyed using gusto. I mostly used the app on my phone. It was easy to see my hours for the day and week when logging out for lunch and could accurately verify my hours each day so I was confident my paycheck would be correct.

Pros:

I like that gusto has a website and app for your phone that sync together. You are able to see just as many features on the app as it does on the desktop site.

Cons:

Using gusto takes a little getting used to. Some features seem they should be listed in different areas then they are in the menu.

Great for organizing your direct deposit and tax documents but lacking in banking features

4

Great for organizing direct pay and your company and tax documents. However the banking features are limited such as only having one external account, no bill pay, no Zelle.

Functionality

Pros:

Very easy to split payments and make changes. Availability of various background and tax documents is also very good, easy to find.

Cons:

Being limited to one external bank account for transfers is a negative compared to other checkign accounts. After I get my pay in multiple accounts, I consolidate them in one account for credit card payments. This makes it hard as I need to go to those accounts, transfer from them to another and that to Gusto etc. Also they advertised they offered free tax prep with April, but after I prepared my tax return I saw that this only applied if you had taxes back, not taxes due, which wasn't stated clearly in the offer. Also the banking features are limited for example there is no bill pay. Or Zelle integration.

It was decent. I am not sure I loved it anymore that any other HR tool that does the same functions.

I liked the different options Gusto gave me when it came to their platform. It was not the hardest tool to use.

Cons:

The accessibility. I think it could be cleaned up and have an easier user interface. I would like to see some changes.
