Macaw AMS is a cloud-hosted Insurance Agency Management platform that supports end to end functions of Brokers, MGAs & Lloyds Coverholders. Both Retail and Wholesale Broking can be supported with Macaw AMS.

Macaw AMS has an in-built CRM.

It supports New Business and Renewals comprehensively.

Highly complex Rating and Underwriting logic can be embedded.

It supports Claims Intimation and Tracking.

It comes with a detailed Billing and Payables component that caters to Carrier Extracts as well.

The system has built-in Document Management System, Rules and Workflow components, and an engine to report, visualize and analyze operational data.  
Integrations are available with OFAC checker, Payment Gateway, eSign, email marketing.

Macaw AMS enables the Customers, Producers as well as Carrier Partners to self serve with the help of the specialized portals.

1.  Improve efficiency with Single Customer View

This MGA had a portfolio of high-volume and low ticket-size Policies. At renewal, they were used to get a lot of calls that required attention of the customer support team. As a result, a lot of eff...

ort was needed to maintain a good renewal ratio. The customer support team resolved the issue using the single customer view facility of Macaw. This facility enabled the team to get all the data relevant for the customer at one place including the opportunities, quotations, policies, claims, service requests and contact details with a view of the consolidated portfolio. 2. Improve Renewals Ratio with automated campaign One of our Customers had a policy portfolio that was distributed across customer segments and different lines of insurance. Due to heavy competition from aggregators as well as other carriers / brokers, they had to depend heavily on the outgoing calls at the time of renewal and spent a lot of time and effort in the process. With Macaw’s automated renewal process, they could identify the renewals well in advance between 90 and 180 days, they could categorize the renewals into low-touch and manual, they could adopt different channels across the segments (fully digital workflow for the low-touch segment and auto-allocation to customer service agents for manual segment), they could organize drip campaigns by email and sms, and could reduce effort involved by automatic issuance of policies. The renewal ratio could be improved and customer service team was spending less effort. 3. Improve accuracy with in-built underwriting and rating engines One of our Customers, an MGA, had a complex set of products for which the underwriting and rating was manual due to the inherent complexity. This had two implications, key persons were needed to work the quotations and it was very difficult to maintain uniform criteria. With Macaw’s automated underwriting, rating and surplus lines tax and fees components, the MGA could deliver automated underwriting and rating for all its products, resulting in a significant reduction of time to produce a quote. 4. Improve efficiency using integrated invoicing and statement of accounts It takes a lot of effort to execute accounting activities separately from the Agency Management System, possibly through usage of spreadsheets. With Macaw, where the invoicing and commissions processes are fully automated and integrated with the policy management functions, the MGA could achieve the same objectives with lower time and effort. 5. Visualize, assess and report on accumulated information from ops One of our Customers, an MGA, had a process of extracting data / reports from the system, and was manually analysing the same for reporting the business results. This was a significantly complex process requiring significant time. With Macaw’s Explorer facility, which provides the ability to consolidate operational data, to automate reporting and to create visualizations, the MGA could significantly improve.

Entire suite for my MGA

The cost benefit analysis proved to be true and the platform allowed the business to go 100% virtual. This is impressive for a 20 year old MGA who has to deal with online sales, executive sales, producer sales, underwriting, customer classification, policy administration and claims.

Cloud based solution with customizations for my needs from vendor allowed us to downsize our IT staff and keep on top of cyber trends at a much better ROI.

Cons:

Learning the better way to do business. Our old ways were antiquated, but comfortable.

I like that it has finally come together and is becoming more user friendly for me and my team.

Cons:

Though I now find it user friendly, I do not believe that it is user friendly to the average person. We get a lot of calls generated from clients who are unable to sort it out.

I was not involved with the decision, but I believe it was a pricing issue as well as wanting to build something that encompassed all elements of our business as opposed to doing a lot of multiple entries.

Overall experience is our company launched this system 2 years ago, and there has been a lot of progress. But it seems like a never ending road and we employees have to wait months for certain changes to take place. I don't know if that is program costs, meaning too expensive for our company? Above my pay grade. But the system is also up and down. The speed is not always there, and I have high speed internet with full access. I will say, it has gotten better as a user. But our clients still struggle with using it.

Pros:

I do like that we can customize the features we want that cater to our business, since it's so niche. It has come a long way since we first started using the system. Our users seem to be getting used to and able to navigate easier.

Cons:

Not sure if this is an internal problem, but it takes forever for system changes to be made when we have requests. There are still too many clicks/steps to accomplish certain simple tasks. Random issues seem to occur all of the time - payment info disappears, PT ledgers don't work, etc. When one issue is being resolved and fixed, another one occurs it seems. I don't like that I can't work in the early hours of the morning. The system is very slow and doesn't work efficiently until after 7AM. I work as early as 4AM some mornings and need it to be running smoothly.

Pros:

I am really impressed with the calculations that Macaw can perform. We have a lot of rules and regulations for our rates, and Macaw is able to correctly provide the premium and taxes we need to provide to clients.

Cons:

The main con about Macaw is the wait time for some of the dashboards. Most of the dashboards work provide the reports fast, but there are a couple that require a couple of minutes to provide the report, even with a reasonable size of data.

It's been a LONG process trying to get Macaw where it needs to be. I've been with the company for 10 years almost and Macaw does offer enhanced features in some regards because it can be customized to our program, but that also has created many delays and some lost features compared to our previous AMS.

Cons:

When one thing requested to be fixed is addressed, another thing or function stops working. It takes weeks if not months to make changes. Our management tells us changes are very costly so they have to prioritize. Certain functions I've been requesting as an Account Executive for years gets the back seat because we need other changes first for other departments. We've been using Macaw since 2017 and it's still not fully functional for my daily use in my opinion. Why is it so expensive to make program changes?

Good Option for Software Programming

As far as programming for your business goes, I've worked with 4 different programming options & this is probably the best of them - it seems that all companies will over-sell to a degree. Macaw gets closer to hitting the mark and delivering what they say, it just might be a bit delayed. The team is great to work with, though & are highly accepting of criticism, working diligently to address concerns immediately.

Cons:

There are some formatting issues I struggle with that to me seem no-brainers (like formatting monies as currency), that are missing. Special features & updates tend to take longer than anticipated.

The whole policy process can be completed in one place. From contact/customer management to rating and policy issuance everything can be done in one application

Cons:

Customers can sometimes get stuck or have a bad experience due to mismatch is browser library or data loading issue. While understandable from a programming perspective with updates ect from a customer service perspective it is a hassle to get users to clear their cache.

Processing Insurance renewals with Macaw

I am attempting to reconcile policy history with our carriers. It does not interface with carrier websites like most of the new solfware so everything is manually added. In addition, handling requires multiple touches and it's slow. It is suppose to allow our customer the ability to self service their accounts but only those with extensive computer background can manuever through it. Most of the client interface is so complicated that it always ends in a phone call.
