We have been using this for about 2 years. It has been a great step up but not something that is too overwhelming. It allows for better reports, better WIP schedules, and an easier process. We love using Foundation. I have also attended a few online classes and the Foundation COllege last year in San Antonio. I talk to someone based in the US & they are helpful. They get back to you fast. If they cannot get you an answer then, they will get back to you. You are never let without an answer. #### Cons If an error is made there are too many steps to correct the error, like many accounting programs. FOr example, you cannot just go into an invoice and add a PO that you missed, you have to reverse the invoice to make that correction. Which then results in a new INV#. I have been using Foundation Software for nearly 10 years now, it is a good alternative for construction specific small or medium businesses. The Unit Price Bid Module is the best in my opinion with WorkMax coming in 2nd. This software is Perfect for the construction industry. #### Cons We are cloud based and we are logged out several times during the day. This interrupts our daily usage of the software. It keeps all of our accounting straight with one software. You can scan documents into Foundation for employee files, billings, payments. So all you have to do is go to one place to look for everything. #### Cons There are some simple thing I wish I could do in Foundation. I would love to open a job and go to the next without having to close the job. A service profitability report would be nice for a service side. I have been using Foundation for the past 31 years. The software is very user friendly. Keeping the software up to date. Customer Service is the best, they call back in a timely manner. #### Cons Not really a con - but it is a vast software and it can do so much - I am only use a fraction of its capability. #### Reasons for choosing FOUNDATION Certified Payrolls and AIA. There are several things I would change from an accounting perspective but it is a good system for construction if you use it correctly. #### Ratings breakdown - Ease of use: 3/5 - Value for money: 3/5 - Customer support: 5/5 - Functionality: 4/5 #### Pros Customer support, Certified Payroll, Union Reporting, Data Genie reports, Overall it is a very integrated system. #### Cons -Lack of ability to pay subs based on pay-when-paid. UPB has some good bones set up but it does not tie to AP to pay vendors well. Payments have to be tracked outside the system. -UPB does not allow retainage paid to be applied so the Project Status Paid Report at the end of a project always shows an unpaid balance. Should be able to apply so balance do is zero. -Lack of ability to easily apply cash to customer accounts when there is no invoice to apply to -Bank Deposits should happen before cash application #### Reasons for switching to FOUNDATION Prior to my employment here. It is very helpful when it comes to fringe benefits and certified payroll. The implementation meetings are very informative and the staff is very kind and helpful. Overall very happy with this software purchase. #### Cons The format of the software seems outdated. I have had an overall great experience with Foundation and would love to add on more features if I can get our team to try some new features. The customer support is very quick to respond and answer any of my questions. The software allows me to easily manage our AIA invoicing with general contractors which makes billing and receiving in payments easy. #### Cons I haven't really found any cons - only that there is so much more the software can do then I am aware of this time without taking on some actual training courses. #### Vendor response Thank you for your kind words, Sherri! Day to day operation works great and we have no complaints on our daily operations working out of Foundaiton. We are able to train any new hires quickly on how to use the major modules like accounts payable. We can also make Foundation work in a way and customize aspects of it that works for our company. #### Ratings breakdown - Ease of use: 5/5 - Value for money: 4/5 - Customer support: 4/5 - Functionality: 4/5 #### Pros Modules are easy to use and flow in a way that makes sense. The reports Foundaton gives you access to covers almost any information that you may need to pull. And if the report you need is not there, you can typically make a customized report for what you need. Customer support has a good response time of typically a few hours to a day depending on the severity of the issue. Talking with customer support is easy and helpful. #### Cons Updates to Foundation come on a regular basis, which is great, but sometimes the items your company are looking for to be updated are not addressed until later updates. The new year update (V26.0.0) was one that didn't come out until January 8th which included 2026 tax tables. I would have hoped was released prior to the start of 2026. It seems to be a good value for the cost. #### Cons It definitely has a learning curve. One year in and I still struggle to find the information needed at times. It can be hard to find the reports needed for a task. We have been trying to write some custom extracts for PM's the Owner and it can be hard to get support for those projects. Many software's will have a community of users were they will share some of the "custom" extracts/projects they have created. I've used Foundation for over five years and I think it's a great accounting system for construction. Whenever I have a problem, all I need to do is give them a call and they will work with me to fix the problem. All the representatives are courteous and knowledgeable about the software. I also love the ease of use of Foundation. The software is organized and easy to navigate, once you get the hang of it. It has many useful reports for job costing, payroll, and accounts payables/receivables. I do payroll at my company and Foundation makes it easy. There are many Pre-Check Registers that I can look over before submitting to make sure no mistakes are made. The most useful report to me is the "Unpaid Employee" list. It's exactly like it sounds, it'll give you a list of current employees who don't have a paycheck for the week. #### Cons It did take me a while to understand the layout of Foundation. I do payroll now, and it is tedious to create a new union with different pay rates and fringe deductions, since you have to create a fringe deduction for each trade that you have. #### Vendor response Thank you, Alyssa!
