The ease of setting up a new bid, combined with the powerful database that is at the core of the software, I cannot ever see myself using anything else. I like the intuitive process of going through a takeoff, which makes it almost impossible to forget a required item. The built-in checks that the software integrates into the platform provide safety rails which prevent errors from going unnoticed. When it comes time to hand a project off to the field team(s), the reports that you can generate in The EDGE provide a clear and concise picture of the project. #### Cons While The EDGE is a very powerful platform, that comes with the downside of not being very user friendly when it comes to operating on the back end of the software. If you know what you are doing, it's not all that complicated....but if you don't, you can mess things up in a hurry and cause the software to be unusable. #### Reasons for switching to The EDGE Procore, while good in it's own right, is designed for the General Contractor, not specialty subcontractors. Having separate billing cycles makes it harder to budget, track expenses, and manage invoices. It would be much easier if all fees were combined into one annual renewal. This would simplify accounting, reduce confusion, and provide a better overall customer experience. Aligning the billing cycles would make costs more predictable and eliminate the need to manage multiple renewal dates. My overall experience with The EDGE has been positive. I think it is a very capable estimating platform, particularly for commercial roofing, where estimates can become extremely detailed and involve a large number of materials, conditions, labor components, and pricing variables. The ability to perform the takeoff and build the estimate within the same platform is one of its biggest advantages. I also find the customization and depth of the system valuable because it allows us to build estimates around our own materials, labor rates, assemblies, and estimating practices rather than forcing everything into a generic format. At the same time, I think there is room for improvement in the overall user experience. Some processes could be more intuitive and efficient, and navigating larger estimates can sometimes feel more cumbersome than it should. That said, once you understand how the software is structured and have your databases and estimating practices established, The EDGE can be a very powerful tool. Being able to perform the takeoff and have those quantities flow directly into the estimate is a major advantage, particularly on larger commercial roofing projects. I also like the depth of the roofing-specific database and the ability to build and customize conditions, assemblies, materials, labor, and pricing around how our company actually estimates work. The roofing-specific functionality is another major positive, especially for items such as tapered insulation, fasteners, standing seam, and the various components that can make commercial roofing estimates complicated. The ability to create scenarios and make changes without having to rebuild the estimate is also very useful for alternates, value engineering, and change orders. Overall, The EDGE has a lot of depth and gives an experienced estimator a great deal of control over the estimate. #### Cons The biggest downside to The EDGE is that its depth can also make it more complicated than it needs to be. There are a lot of capabilities within the software, but some functions and workflows are not particularly intuitive, especially when you are trying to accomplish something outside of the more basic estimating process. The user interface and navigation could also use some modernization and streamlining. I would like to see fewer steps required for common estimating tasks and more flexibility in how information is viewed and manipulated within an estimate. Working with large, complicated commercial roofing estimates can also become cumbersome, particularly when you need to make widespread changes or review a large amount of information. I think the software has the functionality to be an excellent estimating platform, but the user experience could be improved significantly. At the same time you have an overlook of the cost breakout. I use it for bidding almost daily. It is a good value as it helps with accuracy and saves time and money. #### Cons Many fine tuning has to happen in order to have all works correctly. We still adjust hours in the summary. I asked a question and never got the answer if Report Spray Chart and a drawing can be on the same page? We have to combine 2 pages in 1 for our field. In a nutshell, we are enjoying The Edge 12. But like my "Cons" list and my review title suggests - It's getting there (slowly). Right now, we're about at a 70-75% satisfaction rate for Edge 12. There is still a lot of work to be done to return to the quality of ease provided by Edge 10, and I don't doubt that it will eventually get to where we're 100% satisfied. #### Ratings breakdown - Ease of use: 4/5 - Customer support: 3/5 - Functionality: 2/5 #### Pros The Estimating Edge is one of the best (if not the very best) estimating software programs available on the market. It is easy to use, and the upgrades they made to the Edge 12 (compared to Edge 10) have sped up the estimating process (overall). Streamlined and accurate, we trust The Edge (and their customer service team) to provide us with everything we need. #### Cons Still very buggy and glitchy. The Edge 12.6 had fixed many of the issues that were prevalent since Edge 12 was first released; however, there are still glitches. Blurry drawings, slow response/lag time on mouse clicks, etc. But least favorable was the fact that they took away most of the aspects of Edge 10 that made it SUPER user-friendly, and it's not nearly as user-friendly as Edge 10. Their claim of "Less Clicks" for Edge 12 has proven to be inaccurate, as we often spend more time clicking through pages than we did when we had Edge 10. #### Vendor response Thank you for your review and comments. Love the idea and how it calculates but disappointed with how many issues the New version 12 has. I understand New software needs testing to fix any bugs and issues but testing this software with my business is not appreciated. Love the Tapered module. #### Cons Version 12 has many issues. Very glitchy, and concerning when it comes to producing bids. A mistake made by the Edge can be lethal to our business. Had such errors with our tax amount disappearing and leaving our bids without tax included. Fastener count being all over the place jacking up the bid price. The recap screen does not refresh right away after changes are made. Also aesthetic nuisances such as similar items not merging together. I don't like the new visual format of the new edge. Very Cold and bland. The off and On buttons are confusing looks like everything is off. The ability to quickly add conditions. The accuracy of the calculations. #### Cons Not able to stack hyper links from page to page. Need to track details from Elevations back to enlarged details. Sometimes this will be three to four pages back into the documents. Do not have the ability to add notes, lines, clouds, bubbles, etc... to the take-off page. Can only add notes in one line and not a paragraph type setting. Need better options in printing out take-off, annotations come out too large and it does not print out correctly on 11x17 size paper. I was relatively new to construction and it allowed e to be very productive with limited knowledge. #### Cons I was missing simple commands, such as delete buttons and ability to pan. We are now using version 12 with the cloud. What I like most about the this program is the ease of use and how it reduces my time estimating.
