Usefull Tool for all Teachers like me

Very widespread software. The look in the program is very familiar, which helps the user to navigate quickly, despite the changes in newer versions. The main panels are well distributed and work comfortably in the program. Storing the functions in panels gives a tight look and order. One sees exactly what one needs. I use the program to create presentations when I need a little more specific feature.

PROS

I like that the functions are also depicted with icons, which makes the use of the program possible by completely new users. This is also useful for those with experience in the program, because the functions are many and the pictograms are like little jokers for the function itself (you don't have to remember everything). The advantage is that the program has many different functions for creating creative and attention-grabbing content (text in various forms, images, insertion of video and audio).

CONS

The fact that the keyboard shortcuts are not listed. The inability to import gif files into presentations in an easy and convenient way. The disadvantage is that the package is paid. The inability to edit the finished file on devices that do not have the program.

Reason for choosing Microsoft PowerPoint

Google Slides - the main features are close to those of the Microsoft product, but logically for an online program, some more specific things are cut. It is convenient for creating fast and decent looking content that is available anytime, anywhere. It is very convenient that people from different places can work on a certain material at the same time.

Used Often and Incorrectly

Whenever someone sends me a PPT, I sort of groan. I may open the file and export it to a PDF to get a smaller file OR the PPT will be just a 1-pager from someone who is trying to show me a layout or concept of something. Personally, it would be faster if they drew it on a piece of paper and took a picture with their phone and send it as an image than to go through the trouble of using PPT for that. There are PLENTY of expert PPT users/designers who know how to either create a properly formatted template to use or know how to assemble a professional looking deck. These are always easier to work with but in the end, the files are way to large, 100% of the time. If the app was more intuitive OR there were better resources on how to use PPT properly for those who don't have time or can't afford to hire a designer to assemble their deck.

PROS

It's the most widely used and available software (meaning so many people have it so it's likely you'll be albe to send/receive a file and open it. Using the Master slides feature which is where you can set and "fix" your logo in place to appear on each slide, have a variety of slide formats/layouts to choose from, and even set a typography stylesheet/style set.

CONS

First and foremost, the finished file sizes are always ridiculously large. This is a problem because so many people always try to email them and I find they either bounce back because they are too large to email, or I'll be out and if the PPT attachment does get thorugh, it's still so large and sort of clogs up my email and whatever is behind it. Secondly, I know PPT is meant to be a presentation software and intended for "screen presentations" but because of this, what happens is that no matter what image is imported in (like a logo or a photo), it is automatically converted to a lower resolution image. This means if you try to print the presentation, any imported graphics will look 'meh' compared to the text. Third, and this isn't really the fault of Microsoft or PowerPoint, but I regularly see PPT decks that look like something the person's kid put together. Most often, this is due to the fact that the user doesn't have a full understanding how to use PPT, and this results in slides looking inconsistent from the next. Alignments are off, a variety of fonts get used, and it just looks like a draft instead of a polished "presentation". Fourth and lastly, it does not play so nice with Macs. It seems Microsoft went out of it's way to create a whole Office for Mac variety but didn't seem to do any full work on making sure it was fully compatible and played nice. It regularly loads slow, doesn't show things correctly, or just crashes (the latter is the most common).

Microsoft PowerPoint is a wonderful tool for Presentations

I use Microsoft PowerPoint each month to put together the slides for our monthly firm-wide meeting presentations. The product creates a professional easy to use presentation. I love how collaborative it is and how I can easily upload slides to the deck that colleagues have created.

PROS

I love how collaborative Microsoft PPT is and how I can easily upload slides to the deck that colleagues have created. I like that it has suggested layouts making it easy and efficient to create a connected and professional presentation

CONS

I wish some of the features were easier to use like videos and audio when presenting in Teams. The longer I use the product the more I love it and the easier it is to use.

Industry Standard in presentation tools

I'm pleased with the program, especially in light of the advanced features and familiarity it offers. I would recommend to beginners and advanced users.

PROS

Even though the field is crowded today, PowerPoint still remains at the top of presentation and slide deck creation tools! Here's what I like most: - No other platform or program offers as many advanced features as PowerPoint. What you are capable of doing with this Microsoft program may be mimiced or imitated by other platforms, but at the end of the day, no other platform is capable of all of the heavy lifting when compared to PowerPoint. It is a robust program. - Even though, PP is loaded with features, it's also user-friendly. Most of us grew up in a day when Microsoft products reigned supreme, as a result, we intuitively know or feel comfortable with the interface. - Due to the advanced features, PP allows creators to produce a more engaging, visually impressive presentation. - It's affordable. - PP links or integrates with so many other programs or platforms. Something as simple as creating handouts from PP is so simple - a process that is not as true for competitors. - It's almost the industry standard. It doesn't matter what field/sector you discuss, PP is common knowledge, understood, and used by all (education, business, private, etc.). - You can use it virtually anywhere, as long as you have a device of course. No connection is needed. - Individual slides can be customized to your heart's delight. Competitors tend to offer themes, which are necessarily applied to the whole deck. Not so with PP. - PowerPoint is versatile and can be used for many purposes.

CONS

I have no concerns or complaints about PowerPoint. Even though many competitors are in the field, I still think PowerPoint has carved out a significant space and will last for years to come.

Reason for choosing Microsoft PowerPoint

As discussed in the pros section, PowerPoint is just a well designed program. It's user-friendly, yet it offers advanced features that you just don't see in the competitors. The price point is appropriate considering the product.

Powerpoint and Teaching

Overall, I would one hundred percent recommend this to any instructor attempting to teach a course. Even within school programs it is great to use for presentations and can often capture the attention of the students, as this seems to be what motivate and captures the attention of this generation.

PROS

Recently, I began teaching through the Arise Platform. Currently, I service for multiple different companies like Comcast, Disney Resorts, and Dicks Sporting Goods. As a teacher, I teach three week classes at a time. For each class I am required to have PowerPoints. Microsoft PowerPoint moves quickly, is easy to navigate, easy to present, and even allows me to place extra notes for the students. It allows for citations, it allows you to input videos and images. It is easy for beginners and even professionals are able to use PowerPoints and be successful. Designs are quick and easy, it has a valuable amount of templates for whatever topic you may be presenting.

CONS

The thing I like the least about this software is how many different areas there are throughout the application. It can be difficult to navigate when first beginning to use it. It also allows for laziness when it comes to presenting for those who may be poor speakers. When owning a business or being a teacher it is important to not use your presentations as a crutch. I have seen many lazy instructors use PowerPoints for that precise reason. There is a large abundance of special features and I have seen through many presentations, instructors getting carried away with the features and it takes away from the meaning of the delivery.

Reason for choosing Microsoft PowerPoint

Prezi did not have as many valuable needs provided for as Microsoft Power Point did. It also was not worth the price and did not have as wonderful customer service as Microsoft office does.

Power is in your hands

This software is not hard to use even though it could be made easier to use. It is the best option if you can afford it. It has more features than other similar software and you can make more professional presentations with it. It takes time to become a master at it however once you get the hang of it, you will make some really good stuff.

PROS

It is the most professional presentation software that most companies use. Very impressive presentations can be done with this software. Once you learn how to use it time-efficiently, it becomes so much easier to prepare presentations, cool animation, and transitions. You can also do some decent illustrations with PowerPoint. They wouldn't be as good as the ones you would do with proper illustration software however they get the job done.

CONS

Templates are not as appealing as I would expect from a software that I pay this much for. And for some reason, videos sometimes don't work and you have re-insert them. Also, it is pretty difficult to do transitions in some cases which I think should be made easier. Its price is really high compared to other company's products.

Reasons for switching to Microsoft PowerPoint

PowerPoint was much more functional and more popular.

PowerPoint

I work in both business and higher education fields in everything from application software set-up, international communications, or budget timelines to educating teachers in the integration of technology into the classroom from Early Childhood Development up through high school and/or Special Education as well as adult Organizational Management and Leadership, and Business Data and Information Management all of which requires presentations and dissemination of information in an effective and manageable way. Using PowerPoint for all of these needs has truly been a successful venture. With the ability to add graphics, hyperlinks, voice over recordings, embedded videos, music, timed and professional transitions and the options to save as editable presentations, or view only automated slide shows and Digital Stories, I have been able to create robust and interactive presentations that I share on a regular basis. Whether it’s a live, in-person presentation, or an emailed or uploaded slideshow or digital story, I can trust that PowerPoint will help me share and educator others.

PROS

In today's technologically infused world I engage daily in both business and higher education fields (both public and private), and I find time after time that PowerPoint (PPT) is my go-to presentation software program! I think its versatility and ease of use (without any formal training) has to be my favorite thing about PPT. I can provide an editable version of a PPT presentation to my students (or staff), or I can provide them with an automated slide show/video that they can simply watch to receive the desired information.

CONS

I think if I had to ask for any improvements it would be that the program would automatically prompt the user upon saving the file, if he/she would like to “compress pictures/graphics to reduce the size of the file.” I have many students who have complained that they cannot upload their presentations or that it takes was too long for their files to upload into our online classes. This often can be due to the size of their files which can be quite large because of their inserted pictures/graphics. I know to always compress my graphics before saving the file, but even when instructed to do this students will often forget when under the pressure of submitting a graded or important presentation/slide show. I have experienced this with staff and other faculty/colleagues as well. Offering a simple prompt upon saving the file that asks the user “Would like to compress pictures/graphics to reduce the size of your file?” with the same ‘Target output’ options that are available on the Compress Pictures tool, would save effort, size, and time!

Presentation Software for Business and School

Overall, this software has been incredibly valuable. I have been using it now for almost 20 years. I have always loved the way the software works, the ease of use, variety of customization settings, and its ability to present anything I need. I currently use it to teach lessons in a church and school setting with video, text, and charts/spreadsheets. It has helped me numerous times present content in a simple, fun, and engaging way.

PROS

Microsoft PowerPoint is an essential tool in my business and school toolbox. I use PowerPoint weekly to create mostly text presentations that teach and share ideas. What I like most: 1. Ease of use: - There are built in templates ready for me to begin designing my slides. - All the tools I need to create slides are at the top and right hand side easy for me to access. - A slide pane on the left helps me see where I am in my presentation and select individual slides for editing. - Presentation is simple, just the click of the spacebar, arrow, mouse, or presenter allows me to advance my slides or go back. 2. Autosave: There are times when I have to leave my desk and my project will auto save. 3. Presentation Mode: I use this mode when I "extend my desktop" for use with a projector (you can access this setting by typing "project" in the search bar on a Windows 10 computer). Presentation mode allows me to see what slide I am currently on, what slide is next, and has a timer to see how long my presentation has been going. It also has features like play, back, forward, etc... 4. Embedding: PowerPoint allows me to embed audio files, video files, spreadsheets, word docs, or pdf into the slides. It is great to be able to incorporate the necessary things I need to present my project or lesson. 5. Transitions and Animations: The transitions and animations feature is helpful because it includes a lot of pre-programmed settings to creatively change between slides or text.

CONS

Here are a few things I dislike about the software: 1. The presentation software only works linearly. What I mean by that is I cannot jump between slides or make a uniquely motioned presentation like Prezi. PowerPoint simply goes from one slide to the next to the next. While PowerPoint more than makes up for this with the animations and transitions offered and its ease of use, I do wish it had some of the unique features of Prezi. 2. I find the animations feature to be a bit difficult. It isn't as intuitive as I would like. What I mean by that is when I do bullet points for a lesson outline I have to select the text I want to animate, then select the animation I want, then select "Move Forward on Click" in order to get the presentation points to go 1, 2, 3, 4, etc... instead of the default, which is all at once. I find it a bit cumbersome. 3. One could argue that while customization is a bonus of PowerPoint, it can also be a negative. The software requires a bit of a learning curve.

Far more robust than most give it credit for

PowerPoint does it all for me: In-person presentations, plans and proposals, social media graphics, animations, digital and print ad design, poster and brochure design. I reach for PowerPoint more than any other Microsoft program. When it comes to presenting ideas with strong visual impact, I think in PowerPoint.

PROS

Like most professionals who've ever had to give a presentation, I began using Powerpoint 10+ years ago as a presentation tool. Over the years, I've created more and more elegant documents, slideshows, etc., and have recently begun using Powerpoint to create digital and print ads, social media posts, posters, brochures and other collateral materials. I've appreciated how easy it is to place text and images, adjust colors, create transparent images, rotate and layer elements, create animations, and much more. Powerpoint is really a fairly intuitive tool for the professional who is capable, but not a graphic designer by trade. There are many things that Photoshop does better, of course, but I'm amazed at how much I can do with Powerpoint with far less swearing. So far the biggest limitations are the size of document you can create (under 50 inches); it doesn't set up in pixels, and it takes a little finesse to produce a high-res output. For my small marketing consultancy, where it helps to keep as much work as possible in-house without paying outside designers for certain types of projects, Powerpoint has become my constant companion. I produce proposals, plans, mockups, and even some finished work all from this one, indispensible program.

CONS

Admittedly, this is not marketed as a graphic design program, but there are only a few small things that would make Powerpoint an easy-to-use tool for simple design: 1., a slightly-easier-to-use "remove background" tool (that doesn't leave the resulting image pixelated); 2., the ability to export or save documents as a Photoshop PDF; the ability to set up a document in pixels, 3., the ability to select dpi.

Microsoft Powerpoint Review - Through my PC-Using-Years

I can now do presentation using screen recorder especially if I am making tutorial videos. I have no problems with Powerpoint and I can achieve specific needs for my presentation. Powerpoint-user since the time I learned how to use a PC, and up to now, that I have complicated needs for media productions, Powerpoint is always there to help me!!!

PROS

For the past years, Powerpoint has evolved into an indispensable tool in this age of digital presentation. I started using it when I was still a college student where I make my classroom reports for my Sociology subjects. My teacher then, was really impressed with my presentation and looking back today, I am laughing at my classic animation and slide transition coupled with sound effects for each movement of the objects in a slide. Looking at PPT now, with Microsoft Office 365, I can make sophisticated and trendy presentations that uses the usual "user-friendly" GUI of Powerpoint. I love the advance animations and exciting items available for producing quality presentations. Many people are using presentation tools like Camtasia, Screen-o-matic, and/or Articulate thinking that they have advance features. They are missing the point that they can also do it in Powerpoint. It is now loaded with new features and applying your skill sets for the application interface that you have been familiar with, over the years. I just hate to see people wasting a lot of money on other products, realizing that they still need to spend time in learning the softwares and training to be proficient with it. When in fact, POWERPOINT can do the presentation job for you!!!

CONS

Powerpoint should have an added menu where they can train and disseminate their new features to the users, both new and avid users. With that interface, the user will learn the new features by simply clicking on that menu. Furthermore, it would be a plus if there are exciting animation/effects that can be used for smooth transitions and movements, so that the animation will be more fluid and professional. Templates and Categories for starters will be Qa great help for those who doesn't have enough background in designing and color schemes. Lastly, it will be nice if we can export our presentation to different social media platforms, since it is now the treQQnd for presentation/video productions.

Powerpoint - The Best Presentation Software On the Market

My overall experience with Powerpoint has been overwhelmingly positive. I've been using the software for years and never had any issues with my presentations. Having used it from everything to school projects, business presentations, and training new employees, I can testify to how truly versatile this product is and essential to creating professional presentations. Don't settle for other presentation software, because in my experience none are as simple to use and feature rich as Microsoft's Powerpoint.

PROS

Powerpoint is an intuitive and easy to use solution for creating any type of presentation. With a wide array of tools and features, the user is able to make presentations as simple or complex as desired. No frills projects can be made with minimal input and effort. More complex projects can utilize features such as slide animations in the form of transitions, bouncing text, sounds, moving images, and more. The best part about the software is how highly customizable the presentations are which means you are only limited by your own creativity. There are plenty of free presentation themes available that will give your presentation a sleek and professional appearance. You can also create a custom theme or purchase others if the free selection doesn't meet your preferences. The software gives you the option to record your voice and do virtual presentations if you are not able to present in real time which is a nice feature. Additionally, users can create charts, graphs, and smart art, which can help convey data in a visual format that is most suitable to your needs. Most importantly, presenting with the software is a breeze. Transitioning through slides can be done manually on the keyboard or through a wireless remote. This process is seamless and generally speedy depending on how many graphics and animations that need to load. Because of its sheer versatility, ease of use, and variety of customization options, there is no better presentation software than Microsoft Powerpoint.

CONS

I have no true functionality complaints about the software. However, I do think there is one feature that can be slightly improved. When exceeding a certain amount of text on a slide, Powerpoint will automatically resize the font so that the text will fit neatly onto the slide. At some point, the text will become too small to be readable during a presentation. Instead of continuing to resize the text so that it will fit onto the slide, Powerpoint should give the user a warning that the text will become too small to be legible while presenting. That way the user has an idea of when too much text has been put onto the slide and would be better off saving that information for a new slide. Perhaps after reaching a certain font size.

Authoring tool of choice, eLearning or Presenting

My roles within many companies has meant that I have had occasion to use PowerPoint in almost every way that it was designed for and in some cases not designed for. Does it do everything a professional design tool can, (like Photoshop, illustrator, etc.), no it does not, but it is one heck of an authoring tool for creating visual aids for presentations, reports, posters, videos, animations and eLearning. In my humble opinion the bad press that PowerPoint gets is much more about the User ability than the tool itself. My first recommendation to anyone using PowerPoint is, learn how to think visually first. Visual aids should help the audience, not an autocue for the speaker. The second recommendation is that you should always add speaker notes, besides being a good discipline for speaking, it means that you can distribute your slide decks in a way that makes sense to the reader and if it is a course your notes can server as the narrative for eLearning conversion.

PROS

I was once asked at a learning conference, "what makes someone a Subject Matter Expert?" My answer was simple, as a SME you have learned what you can get away with not doing, in other words been there done that. PowerPoint falls into this category, it has been around forever and adopted best practices from the industries it serves. It does not do things to the level that other professional tools do, but then it doesn't need to and I ceratainly have gone past worriying what I can't do and focus on what I can do in the tool. It is feature rich in many areas, not that many users know what these are, but it covers most bases from Templates and styles to design tools and idea generation. The graphic tools and functions are easy to understand and the animation features makes it simple to create professional looking animations. The selection pane is a godsend when working with many latered slide. The Add-ins feature is great for creating things like Word-clouds, especially when trying to get demographic messages across. As far as I am concerned when developing eLearning content it is difficult to see any eLearning specific tools match the authoring capability of PowerPoint, the key is to ensure the conversion tool can convert all the features in PowerPoint to HTML5. This gives you future proof content that anybody can edit, not just a software savvy developer!

CONS

There are only a few niggles (wishes) that I would note about PowerPoint and these might not even be something users would come across, it will be easier just to list these in the hope that oneday Microsoft might read this review and take note: 1. Enable drawing with bezier curves, rather than clicking points and editing them afterwards. 2. Allow all animation rows to be moved together (avoid having to step out each one by half a second!) 3. Enable straight line to be changed to multi-point line (so you can curve it) 4. It would be good if you could track changes like in Word, especially when sharing with a client to edit. 5. Exporting speakers notes without slides would be useful. 6. When exporting to Word it is a pain that each slide thumbnail is the whole presentation (makes it a massive Word file). The last thing is a double edged sword, is it is too easy to use, so everybody things the software will make their presentation look good, not the case, you have to think about it!

Reason for choosing Microsoft PowerPoint

At the time the choice was made for me, as most of my corporate clients were using PowerPoint, which at the time I felt Aldus Persuasion was a better tool. But, PowerPoint has grown and developed into a superior tool, which many of the online equivalents couldn't match, so now wouldn't change.

Microsoft PowerPoint has changed my life.

I have been using Microsoft PowerPoint for a very long time, and owe a lot of my success in life to PowerPoint. It started when I was in middle school and my father came home from work with a brand new MacBook with PowerPoint installed (back when Apple first introduced them). My three younger siblings and I would make hilarious PowerPoints and present them to our parents at dinner time. I'll never forget how we made one about my father, who wished he was a NASCAR driver and drove like one on every road trip we took. So we animated images of us in the back seat holding on for dear life in our family minivan racing across each slide of the PowerPoint. I remember being young and in awe of how well you could manipulate images and text. Thus started a beautiful relationship with PowerPoint. From helping me graduate high school and college, to helping me run my own sales office, to now helping me work with companies across the country, PowerPoint has been with me through it all. It's easy to use (my siblings were 8 years old and younger when they helped make the racecar presentation). And you can customize your presentations any which way. PowerPoint is one of the tools I've relied on the most for well over a decade. It's not often you can say a software program reminds you of great times with your family. Thank you Microsoft.

PROS

PowerPoint is my favorite Microsoft program. What do I like most? All of it. More specifically, I've recently come to love the Slide Master feature which allows you to edit the formatting of every slide in the presentation with ease. Instead of editing each individual slide, you can just edit all the slides at once through View --> Slide Master. I just love how much you can customize your presentations. There's a lot PowerPoint has to offer. The good news is that you don't have to learn every function to make a quick, great presentation, but I do recommend exploring every tab because there is a LOT PowerPoint can help you accomplish.

CONS

I don't have any cons. It just takes some time to really learn all the functions. Luckily, the help features and the help you can find online are great whenever you find yourself stuck.
