Get the best writing experience with ProWritingAid!

I love my experience with ProWritingAid! It's been a great help in fine-tuning my writing and catching errors I would never have caught on my own. The best part is that it is very easy to use and I can see changes to my work immediately.

PROS

I find ProWritingAid to be an excellent tool. Not only does it help me correct my mistakes such as grammatical errors that I would have missed, overuse of words, and inconsistency of style, but it also gives me tips on how to improve my writing, which makes it easier to read. It is a perfect writing assistant that allows me to track my progress and make sure I am getting the most out of the software.

CONS

I will say that ProwritingAid is detail-oriented, but for me, I don't mind.

Reasons for switching to ProWritingAid

ProWritingAid detects errors in long content.

Very useful for fast writing

Satisfied

PROS

Fast, friendly word suggestions, nice extension. so far, everything.

CONS

Look and feel of the Web tool and color pallet, but I am being picky right now

Reason for choosing ProWritingAid

Has the same good usability than Grammarly and is cheaper. Also, I see better options when ProWriting suggest me to change the word/s.

Reasons for switching to ProWritingAid

Annual price was way more competitive. I was a Grammarly user for over 5 years and they kept rising the price and didn't recognise I was one of the earlier adopters. I hate when companies do that. I sent them an email but their reply was that maybe I need to look for other options and I did.

Great Tool for Extremely Short Texts, Monumental Fail Otherwise

Sharing my two cents about ProWritingAid that I purchased a lifetime licence for: If you're reviewing texts about 300 - 400 words in length at maximum, you'll be happy with the tool. Otherwise, it's not worth the money. If you need a short-term solution, then by all means go for it but don't pay a buck for actually using the SW. I've been using the Word add-on for over three months now and if you want to use most of the tools on more than 800 words, the tool simply can't handle the 'load.' Usually, it breaks off after a minute or so and you can run the check again which normally doesn't help. You end up wasting a ton of your time and accomplish nothing at all. While the language advice and the correction improvements you get recommended are helpful, you're better off using Grammarly or another alternative if you're reviewing long chunks of text in one go and don't want to constantly copy-paste from Word to their interface and back which is a pain if you have to do that daily like myself.

PROS

Totally intuitive. If you know anything about how English, grammar and vocabulary alike, finding your way through the options and how they work will be a breeze. No learning curve. The tool as well as the report are perfectly self-explanatory. Easy-to-use online interface.

CONS

Useless add-on when dealing with texts of 800+ words. Constant copy-pasting to and from the online interface wasting your time.

Reasons for switching to ProWritingAid

I prefer to purchase software rather than rent it (i.e. renew subscriptions) but I rather pay for regular Grammarly subscriptions now that I know what ProWritingAid has to offer. I can always make more money but the time wasted hoping ProWritingAid would actually return any results when it did not is gone for good. Copy-pasting text from Word to their online interface is not a long-term solution if you're handling dozens of pages of text every day.

Must have if you are a writer

I'm using this tool mostly when I'm writing posts for my personal blog. It helps me to do all kinds of analysis over my text and make it better. Although, it is good for every day usage, when it highlights common errors in real-time.

PROS

It has a simple to use widget that can highlight your grammatic errors in real time. Though, when you want to open a detailed view, you can do that by tapping on the widget and it will open a full-featured editor with a lot of data about your writing.

CONS

Sometimes, the widget does not work for some of the text editors on websites. Hell, it even didn't work on the website where I'm writing the review now.

Reasons for switching to ProWritingAid

ProWritingAid has more tools for writing analysis.

Supports better content, faster (and cheaper)

I'm a business writer (marketing consultant), author-publisher, and editor, so ProWritingAid is an essential part of my business. I absolutely work with human editors for big projects like books, but on the day-to-day content and short fiction where I'm on a tighter turn-around and production budget, ProWritingAid is a cost-effective and efficient way to clean up mistakes and add polish. As an editor/proofreader myself, I also use it to add value for my clients—ProWritingAid helps flag more potential corrections than I can catch in a single pass while freeing me up to keep a closer eye on the style and logic side of things.

PROS

My favourite feature is the overused words check. It's really useful to have grammatical errors and typos flagged as well, but one of the hardest things for me to catch when self-editing is too many uses of the same words in proximity. The automatic check helps me clean up content and get it out the door quickly, whether it's my own projects or as an editor.

CONS

I have older MS Word software, so it's not compatible and copying to and from the web editor can be a little clunky.

Reason for choosing ProWritingAid

It was part of a business products and services bundle I purchased.

Best Grammar & Spelling Checker

My overall experience is very satisfactory as it provides all the essential features which are expected from a good grammar checker tool.

PROS

It is a good-looking Grammer and spelling checker with lifetime perpetual license option. Grammer checking and spellcheck feature is as good as its alternative in the market. It also provides the in-depth reports and analyses.

CONS

It didn't have sentence re-phraser, which is required a lot specially for bloggers. Also, there is no Android app available.

Reason for choosing ProWritingAid

Because of the perpetual one time license option.

The best software for writers and authors

PROS

There are ton of features that support all kinds of writing I need. They might be too many, but the trick is to select some features that suit for each project. I love how detailed information that ProWritingAid breakdown for their users. It’s the perfect tool for me as a writer and blogger. It’s not trying to change sentences and words into a totally different writing style that does not sound like mine, which I appreciated.

CONS

A web browser extension to check spelling and grammar is not working that well. It will be great if it can get some improvement in the future. I want to do a quick checking, but sometimes it doesn’t seem to work well.

Reasons for switching to ProWritingAid

As a writer and blogger, ProWritingAid has features I need specifically for writing novels and other writing works with an in-depth summary of my writing.

Accelerate your time to Edit with precision and accuracy

In addition to customizing software for clients, we also have to write copy- this has to be professionally done based on the client's specifications, and the turnaround time can be brutal. After a few too many problems with Grammarly, we decided to trial ProWritingAid. The depth of the reports, the speed of using the software, and the integrations sold it from that point.

PROS

ProWritingAid integrates easily with our workflow and software in order to speed up the editing process and introduce diversity in the copy, pointing out weaknesses that other software misses. The report that it produces of the writing is excellent, covering areas that were not in our standards.

CONS

In our business, we have to use many custom terms and company names. You can put these into your dictionary, but it is a more manual process than it should be. We were used to being able to import lists of common terms, but there was not an obvious way to do the same, and research into this did not prove fruitful in changing that.

Reasons for switching to ProWritingAid

Lost work and glitches in the software coupled with less than stellar support.

Use ProWriting Aid

PROS

This software enhances your writing and is a necessity no matter what you find yourself writing. The attachment for your browser is a game changer as well because it can help you on all facets of your writing without you having to open it and paste things in. This is a great product. The lifetime subscription helps save you money as well!

CONS

The thing I like the least is simply the monthly price as it is very expensive. I wish they had a cheaper monthly price.

Reasons for switching to ProWritingAid

The ease of use with ProWritingAid. It had better suggestions as well and was more consistent. I liked I could pick the "type" of writing I was using it for helping with the suggestions.

ProWritingAid is my number one editor

I've used PWA for several years. I've tried the others and don't like them as well as this one.

PROS

I love being able to edit my manuscripts right away. It helps clean up the issues and to produce a polished copy.

CONS

It doesn't do well in Google Docs, which is what I use. I have to copy/paste it into a web editor, which requires a few extra steps. And then it doesn't maintain the formatting.

Reasons for switching to ProWritingAid

PWA is more affordable and easier to use, or it uses about the same as Grammarly without the huge price tag.

Perfect Your Language Perfectly (but this program might tell you not to phrase it that way)

Writing is a process that requires many disciplines, from planning, to drafting, to editing. One component of that final phase is proofreading, which is essentially the wax to a washed car, if a car were a piece of writing (and a metaphor). Without a solid examination of the final product, statements become questions without notice? See what I did there. Okay, now see what I did there? Yes, knowing the rules of grammar is necessary if you want to proofread well because bad knowledge leads to worse presentation. Fortunately, a tool like ProWritingAid shortcuts the learning and application process by making suggestions wherever it detects a problem with your mechanics. And it’s true that no program can ever replace a human proofreader (or your own proofreading eyes), as no machine understands every context in which your writing may demonstrate. But ProWritingAid and its 20+ categories for examination and recommendation sure gets pretty close. The fact that it can scrutinize your work both online and off makes it even more versatile and necessary if you care even a little about your writing professionalism.

PROS

Besides the fact that it covers basic grammar checks like style, punctuation, and sentence construction, etc., it also checks for sentence length (for variety), clichés (because everyone says they’re bad for some reason), quotes and dialogue, telling versus showing, sensory language, and more. If you’ve ever needed a solid compass to see how ready you are to hit “publish” on your blog or Amazon KDP sales page, or whatever your reason is for writing, ProWritingAid doesn’t get more stable. With very few exceptions, it examines your writing for just about any mistake you can make and gives you a report on your strengths, weaknesses, and consistencies (or lack thereof). This reporting feature is also good to show you your writing habits, in case you need to change any. The program also links you to grammar rules if you ever need to know why it’s making a particular suggestion. This reduces the need for prior knowledge, though you’ll still want some grammar knowledge to make up for the rules that the program overlooks or doesn’t accurately detect. After all, no grammar-checking software is perfect. Not even this one. But it massages its lack into a faux perfection pretty well.

CONS

The amount of checks that ProWritingAid offers is not only its strength, but also, potentially, its downfall. To put it mildly, using ProWritingAid is a mental exercise that can sap your energy if you insist on using every feature for every instance. For example, I can spend anywhere from one to three hours examining a single piece of writing if I go through every category. By the end, I’m ready for a nap, or a change in procedure. Likewise, by paring down your editing process to the essentials and leaving out the extras (do you really care about clichés?), you run the risk of missing out on a valuable sensory suggestion or a misused homonym if that falls out of your routine. For short works of 1000 words or less, you probably won’t feel that slow agonizing sap of energy by the time you get to the 22nd category (Pacing), but if you’re writing a book (as I sometimes do), you’ll feel your brain go numb by Chapter 3, and by that point, you’re only an eighth of the way finished. So, you’ll want to pace yourself (hopefully better than what the 22nd category may reveal about your writing). There also seems to be a slight difference in features between the desktop and online versions. The online version plays better with style guides than the desktop version does. For those who work offline only, it’s important to know that.

Reasons for switching to ProWritingAid

As much as I liked Editor the few times I’d used it, I didn’t love having to read a report before discovering what was wrong with my writing. I prefer discovering problems and fixing them as I read, and ProWritingAid does a better job letting me adapt to the moment. Likewise, having the ability to check more than just the occasional bad sentence structure problem that MS Word gets right only some of the time gives me the confidence that I can fix any error before my readers see them. Well, most errors. Again, no program is perfect, and neither is any writer perfect. ProWritingAid simply does a better job hiding imperfection than most programs of its type.

ProWritingAid Indivitual Lifetime Buyer review

Overall, it is helpful but not the best, and I purchased it assuming it would unlock some exceptional hidden features that are not available in the free version. However, I don't think I noticed any surprising features. But as I have a lifetime membership, I am excited to see upcoming features, which I believe will be available as a lifetime buyer, so I am hoping for the best in the future.

PROS

It gives several rephrases and synonyms for each selected world, if possible. It has a different reporting mechanism that helps determine the problems in long sentences, and it is more inexpensive than other grammar-checking platforms like Grammarly.

CONS

It does not correct the sentence by suggesting grammar fixes; when I recheck the sentence with Grammarly after fixing it via ProWritingAid, Grammarly sometimes still gives grammar errors. Sometimes both ProWritingAid and Grammarly contradict each other. I used the paid version of Grammarly for a few months. I believe that saves time when you have to work quickly during the working day, and quick auto-suggestion works well in Grammarly.Sometimes, when I have to reply quickly to someone with a grammatically correct sentence, when responses are slow, even on a 300 KBPS fiber optic connection, I can't respond quickly, thus feeling messed up.

Pro Writing Aid - very useful

Not business as such, but in my book series, I use this as a first step in cleaning up an initial draft, so that by the time the manuscript gets to my editor, there are fewer problems to clean up.

PROS

It's both stand alone and a plug-in for Word. Therefore I can fire it up and have it check a chapter while I am in Word, or I can have it proof the whole document while not in word. If that makes sense. It certainly helps to clean up that initial fast draft.

CONS

I'm not very fond of the subscription model. I tends to think I need to write in a classic style, but I write fantasy, and as such, I will craft sentences that this will flag. Thus I have to wade through crotch-deep false flags, versus where I actually have a problem.

Reasons for switching to ProWritingAid

Pro Writing Aid is a bit more robust.

Writing the Right Way!

PROS

I’ve always considered myself to be a good writer, but I can say ProWriting Aid has helped me develop into a better writer. The readability feature has been very beneficial. It sometimes forces me to rethink and rewrite so my writing reads more fluidly. It is great at warning me when I write in the passive voice, and it is awesome at suggesting unnecessary words to eliminate. ProWriting Aid has been pivotal for business writing and has benefited me as doctoral student.

CONS

ProWriting Aid is very feature rich, which is not a bad thing, but the issue is I am not always clear on how to get the best use out of all the features and reports.

The best there is

PROS

ProWritingAid is the best editing program out there. It can distinguish between British and American English and is remarkably complete when you let it review an entire document at once for all that it can catch. It can catch inconsistent useage, for instance, along with wordy or muddy prose with overused words and clichés. This functionality matters most, but I also dearly love the fact that you can buy a permanent licence. I hate subscription software.

CONS

The program is best used as you write for my purposes. When it goes over an entire document with full reports after the fact, it can take a very long time to get through them all, and many of the suggestions might well be useful to a novice writer, but less so to an experienced professional who knows when to break the rules.

Great tool for writers

Overall, I find this tool very useful when having to deal with a big amount of text or having to write a lot for work on a daily basis. It does offer a huge amount of insights and information to help you improve your writing skills over time.

PROS

ProWritingAid is a very nice tool to make sure all your content is written properly. It is extremely easy to use and you can set it up in just a few minutes. To start checking a document, you can upload an existing one or create a new one from scratchIt corrects your mistakes and classifies them in grammar, style, and spelling. This allows you to understand where you should improve. I found it very useful in the cases we have to write long manuals. It gives you endless possibilities to get further information about words (dictionary definitions, quotes, etc), same with extensive explanations of why your sentence needs corrections. The dashboard is very complete, and you find all the information on stats about your most common mistakes, key suggestions for improvements, vocabulary, etc.

CONS

As in my team, we usually do not write long documents and we use it mostly for emails and presentations, we have decided to use another alternative tool as we found it more suitable for our purpose. Something that offered a 'check on the go' At the time I tried it, they offered only the yearly subscription and the free trial was 14 days. It would be nice to have other subscription options that are more flexible

A helping hand for grammar

Pretty good. I think it has helped me think about composition and flow and being a more efficient writer.

PROS

I like the reports and the interactive help.

CONS

They are a bit aggressive when writing, interrupting with pop-ups without giving me chance to correct a mistake I know I've made. I would prefer a delay of a second or so between the time I click on a highlighted word and when the pop-up comes up. That would allow me to edit it on my own. It doesn't do as well allowing for stylistic choices, especially for fiction where a writer might make choices that may not be strictly governed by grammatical rigor. By far, they are really aggressive with passive voice, but sometimes that's what I want.
