- Total reviews: 773

### Secondary ratings

- Ease of use: 4.5/5
- Customer support: 4.5/5
- Value for money: 4.5/5
- Functionality: 4.4/5

### Rating distribution

- 5 stars: 561 reviews (73%)
- 4 stars: 155 reviews (20%)
- 3 stars: 36 reviews (5%)
- 2 stars: 5 reviews (1%)
- 1 star: 16 reviews (2%)

### Most mentioned pros

- From a value-for-money perpective, it offers solid features for managing teams and reducing manual scheduling work.
- It provides good value for money and security when everything runs smoothly and offers a secure environment for managing employee information.
- It makes scheduling shifts, tracking hours, and managing team availability really simple.

### Most mentioned cons

- The main downside is occasional inaccuracies in time tracking and total hour calcutions.
- When employee enters a punch that overlaps with a time off request, the kiosk doesn't log the punch or notify the employee that there is an issue.
- Everything is chat/email based, you can't get anyone on the phone and their entire support function is offshored, so I find myself having to explain things repeatedly, and often end up without a resolution.

A great tool to manage employee activity such as the daily check in and out and the holidays or medical leaves.

It has been a little confusing to learn for new in managers and sometimes the data loads in slowly on certain mobile phones.

### Deputy timeclock software review

Deputy has most of the functionality we are looking for in a timeclock application. Our employees find it easy to use, and the punch details easily export to our payroll system.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 2/5

#### Pros

Managers can see the schedule and current punch-in information, and communicate with the whole staff through the app. This allows supervisors to keep track of who is working, and quickly make scheduling changes as needed.

#### Cons

When employee enters a punch that overlaps with a time off request, the kiosk doesn't log the punch or notify the employee that there is an issue. This can be frustrating when, for example, an employee returns early from a doctor's appointment, thinks they have punched in, but their supervisor finds out when approving timesheets that the punch was not logged.

#### Reasons for switching to Deputy

Our buying group, Ace has a relationship with Deputy and negotiates reasonable rates. We can talk to Deputy representatives in person at Ace conventions.

I used it operationally for a few years and found it easy and functional. Its very easy to make basic changes to scheduling and do timesheet approvals from a phone.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 3/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

Detailed functionality makes it ideal for most aspects of managing staff scheduling, timekeeping, and outputting to payroll. Easy to use by employees.

#### Cons

Once in a while, employees would have issues with the app, but this would be temporary, possibly to do with connectivity on the devices. Its not the cheapest option if you have a lot of staff doing few hours, as its a per user subscription I think.

#### Reasons for choosing Deputy

Deputy was chosen by our company. I think I preferred Deputy to use, but could switch to ConnectTeam for the value.

Because it is hosted on the cloud, managers can use it from any location with an internet connection. ADP's timekeeping module makes it difficult to adjust shifts when workers are asked to report earlier or stay later for work.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

Provides access to shift scheduling, staff attendance and punctuality records, and time off analysis reports for management. Unlike ADP's time tracking module, we don't add pay rates in Deputy so managers can utilize it without accessing confidential information.

#### Cons

Given that we have many offices in each state, and that our employees often split their time between offices in different states, keeping track of everyone's whereabouts may be a bit of a challenge.

#### Reasons for switching to Deputy

I like that the iPad can be used in a variety of ways by different employees, is inexpensive, and requires less upkeep than a traditional "timeclock" gadget. The alert system for instant messages needs some work.

This is a great tool for scheduling that prevents confusion and makes the workplace feel more fair and interconnected.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Deputy makes communication, scheduling, payroll budgeting, and so much more wicked easy! The mobile app and website allow for there to be no communication, and everyone has access anytime they need or want. Leave management is also a lot easier!

#### Cons

Sometimes the leave accrual can be a little difficult to set up properly, requiring some reconciliation between our payroll provider and it's figures. I wish they had a working integration with Paychex that didn't require paying Paychex. Some staff have difficulty receiving push notifications, but there are also texts and email notification, and the interface can be a little confusing for first time users. The automations for scheduling are difficult to set up and usually don't work with complex scheduling requirements.

Definitely would recommend this for companies that have shift work. The fee is not that expensive especially if it replaces an admin or HR person toiling over complicated rosters for days on end.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

I felt it was important that our company, or at least my department, moved into the 21st century. We had highly paid managers AND an admin person wasting an entire day or more doing a roster for 10-person teams each month. I tinkered around with it, putting in preferred shifts for each staffer, which busy days in the week we needed more staff, their off day preferences, the minimum amount of time between shifts, how many days a month some of the contract staff worked, etc, then let Deputy do its AI thing and automatically come up with a proposed roster. You can run it a few times to come up with different schedules, if the first time doesn't look ideal. Then it can be exported IIRC (or copied and pasted) including to excel (because "that's how we do things here" — people were just more used to viewing their roster on a spreadsheet, sigh). The best part is, once you set most of the parameters, subsequent rostering is a breeze. Users can log in to put in their own leave dates ahead of time. IIRC they can also request among each other to change shifts. During the trial, tech support was super responsive and even helped customise the backend of my account to allow a certain permutation we needed. Overall I really liked Deputy. Very regretfully, it was not adopted by my company. It didn't make it past my supervisor level as he felt that there would be management resistance to paying monthly for this service.

#### Cons

Nothing really. It took time to figure out what parameters had to be input because my test team's roster had 5 different shift types over 7 days a week, and different people had different preferences for their rosters. It wasn't impossible to set Deputy up for this, but it was not straightforward (nothing to do with Deputy). It also seemed at first like Deputy was more set up for people to go in and grab the shifts they wanted. But I could ignore that and run the scheduler to get rosters done quite quickly after a while. It could take a bit of time for the automated scheduler to do its thing. But still much faster and fewer errors than human effort.

#### Reasons for switching to Deputy

Because Excel was manual rostering!

It has been positive. I am able to search history on specific employees which is beneficial in reviews.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

I recently had a problem and deputy staff assisted until the problem was solved.

#### Cons

I felt the problem should have been easier to solve. Additionally, I am on an annual plan and don’t think opening an archived employee to review history should could as an additional user for that month.

#### Reasons for choosing Deputy

We were already established with deputy and the savings that could have been had was negligible compared to the estimated set up time and retraining of associates.

### Worst customer support ever

- Industry: Hospital & Health Care
- Company size: 51-200 employees

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Customer support: 1/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

It is easy to schedule, roster available on smart phone and has a time clock system so employee work hours can be tracked and monitored.

#### Cons

If a software is going to suit many businesses (as advertised) the company needs to be open to discussions with all types of businesses so that the software is adaptable. This does not happen. The customer support is atrocious. You get a robot answering then a online chat forum. It is time consuming to interact with this forum - they waste time repeating your questions, responses are very condescending, they have no power to make any changes. For example, I have for the last month requested that someone from the country I live in and is involved with the software design(and therefore have the ability to make changes) contact me (?telephone) I have finally been told that even if they call they will not be from within the country I live in - and therefore are just one level higher in the overseas call centre. One frustrating example - the time clock system is an important part of any rostering system - and they have just issued a new feature where staff can clock in and out from home, without any consultation or ability to turn off this feature. While this may suit some businesses it does not suit mine and I am sure I am not alone. Unfortunately this leaves the door open for staff to be fraudulent and defeats the purpose of a clock on/clock off system.

Since implementing deputy towards the end of 2015 in our business, I have worked closely with Jake and Joseph on making the system work with ease and ensure we are using the system to its potential. Our business has a high turnover of transient employees who work varied hours and days of work which makes it hard for our managers to roster efficiently. The team at Deputy have worked with us to add custom features which can help with our daily struggles in turn saving us time and money by being able to roster effectively and ensure we are being compliant at each step. As the Payroll officer for our Australian and New Zealand region, Deputy have allowed me to streamline the fortnightly payroll process. Removed the need for any manual inputting, in turn ensuring we have time for quality checks, within our limited time constraints on payroll day. We are a fast paced business and this system works extremely well for our managers creating and publishing the rosters, as well as confirming timesheets.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Worked closely with our team to add additional features required Fast response time Realistic time-frames Great problem solving skills, and solutions Helps with rostering efficiently, Forecast of costs, Ensures Compliance Reporting functions Payroll inputting has reduced from 1.5 days to 1Hrs due to new seamless payroll integration New upgrade of system is more user friendly and responsive

#### Cons

More updates on system features/upgrades to come More training for Support staff on system set up Doesn't do 'Modern award' interpretation. Although we have now got the system to interpret the Award this was a lot of custom features we worked with the Development team on.
