Mavenlink Review

We use this software for time tracking and task management. It's also a great tool to collaborate with your coworkers. It has a lot of features we don't use yet, but plan to in the future.

Pros

This software is great for time tracking, task management, collaborating, and resource allocation. It can be customized to your brand.

Cons

I found it to be a little overwhelming at first. Would have like more training.

Mavenlink is a good software service for time entry and management

Pros

Integrates with Google Chrome via an add-on that lets you enter time directly to a project from a side window without having to go directly to Mavenlink's website. It also simplifies the time entry process by creating weekly time cards so you can view all of your projects for that time period. Their customer support quickly responds to support tickets and queries.

Cons

The project management component feels...unfinished. It just feels slapped together, but very dated.

Enterprise Solution for Small Business

Pros

Mavenlink is a project management tool that has help formalize our internal processes for project management. The real time project metrics are something that has helped us plan accordingly.

Cons

We wish the integration with Salesforce and email was more robust.

Missing some key features

Pros

We used Mavenlink for 3 years. The biggest benefit was the ability to integrate with Chrome browser's through their plug-in for time tracking and entry without needing to login to the main Mavenlink site.

Cons

Our accounting department's biggest concern was the inability to seamlessly work with Quickbooks Online as we were from Canada. This resulted in doubling up some accounting tasks.

Great to see time and communication

Pros

I get access to mavenlink from a freelancer and it is so much easier with this freelancer than the others because we can track things through here

Cons

I know it might sound odd, but having to sign in as someone who needs to sign off on invoices is weird.

Great Product for an SME

I would recommend the tool, its provided us with a really useful platform to provide greater control over our projects.

Pros

The Dashboard and project spaces are clean and intuitive - they provide us with a clear way to manage our projects - we make great use of the project health checks and project insights for our weekly and monthly reporting.

Cons

there could be more done to make the time sheet and scheduling tools integrated more

Efficient Project Management System

I love having Mavenlink as our project management system. It's much more efficient and user-friendly than the system we used before, and they seem to always be improving it which is good to know from the user point of view.

Pros

The ability to keep up with each individual project, its tasks and subtasks and everything else involved, without worrying about it getting lost in our Google Drive or desktops. It's a good place to store information, communicate with coworkers, and stay up-to-date on the project's status.

Cons

The recurring projects (which make up about 75% of our company) sometimes have trouble repeating correctly each month. The dates will be off and we have to go in and manually adjust a few things, which isn't a huge deal but it's an inconvenience that we'd prefer to avoid.

Great tool for tracking time spent on work

Mavenlink is great for projects that require identifying the amount of hours spent on a project. Specially custom projects to ensure its on time and you don't go over the allocated hours set, or determine if you need to charge more.

Pros

Mavenlink was a very great tool to track the hours spent on a project. It also was a very useful tool to determine if the project is on time or will be going over the allocated time that should be spent on the project. The Project Manager I worked with definitely loved it as well.

Cons

A little bit of a learning curve and could definitely get lost easily in the app as there are so many features. Otherwise once you get used to it, it can be a pretty easy tool.

Leaves much to be desired

Pros

Mavenlink's time entry and task assignment was very helpful for our team. It eliminated the need to manually track our time on spreadsheets and the time utilization integration was a nice feature.

Cons

The inability to link to our Quickbooks account meant doubling up on some accounting tasks which, at the end of the day, we were trying to eliminate with Mavenlink.

Too Many Features, Not Enough Focus

We tried it out for a few weeks and did not love it. However, the sales team is really good and accommodating so if there is a good fit with your project, they'll help you find it.

Pros

The customer support team seemed really good and the web interface was very polished. I can see it working well for a group that focuses on just one large project.

Cons

It was not a good fit for my team, which focuses on a large number of medium-sized projects. The software was good but it felt like they tried to pack in too many features, so some of it was overwhelming and for managing day-to-day tasks the process was a bit cumbersome.

Difficult to use and on-board employees

Pros

We used Mavenlink for a year. The project management features were nice and it helped streamline our resource allocation for staff time.

Cons

The initial onboarding process was slow and our team was reluctant to continue using Mavenlink as it was not able to integrate with Quickbooks and we ended up having to double our time/expense tracking for accounting purposes.

Good tool but there are better options for cheaper

Pros

Mavenlink is a good project management tool and I enjoyed using it for several years.
It's great at keeping track of tasks for just about any business.
You can have multiple sub-layers of tasks.
There is built-in time-tracking available.
You can invoice from the program when tied to 3rd-party invoicing tools (like QuickBooks)

Cons

The main con is that it's very expensive compared to very similar tools (that are arguably better performing).
You have to pay for every user (even freelancers), which doesn't make sense in today's market.
The design is a bit behind many competitors like Teamwork and Asana.

Perfect for a growing business

Mavenlink is a wonderful software to use if you are looking for an easy-to-use project management tool.

Pros

Mavenlink is easy to use and fairly intuitive. We've had no problems with the software and they are making monthly updates to add new and useful features based on customer feedback. Project tracking is the primary reason we use Mavenlink and our workflow has never been better. I really don't know how we managed without Mavenlink before.

Cons

The main issue we are having with this software currently is when it comes to deadlines changing. At this time you can update the project deadline but non of the project related tasks will readjust to the updated deadline.

Very easy platform to engage with clients and to manage reports.

Pros

When a client assigns a project to our team we add a new page to our Mavenlink platform and share that with client and all the team members who will be working on the project. Clients can see updates, modifications and even daily reports. Our team don't have to update each time with the client or send them an email at the end of each day. Even if a client has different projects, they will see it on different pages which avoids confusion. The Gantt charts are the best feature included to avoid keeping multiple tabs open.

Cons

One of the main cons is that it will take considerably more time setting everything up. One has to dedicate for at least 4-5 hours to learn everything pretty well. The date format is given only in US standard and troubled us a lot in the beginning.

Would recommend for project based businesses.

Pros

The reporting that the software provided was very valuable to our team as we were able to gauge the success rate of projects as they were proceeding through the various steps. Knowing how many were in the Green as opposed to the Red was valuable information.

Cons

Our team had a tough time getting used to the time tracking aspects compared to the previous software that was used. Didn't seem to be a natural transition so there were still errors weeks & months after switching over.

Our Next-Generation Project Management Tool

Our overall experience has been wonderful over the past few years. We were able to enable our PM team to become more metrics and data-driven, expanding their capabilities. Change Orders are a big business process that we solved by using Mavenlink. Approval and communication have been GREATLY streamlined! Before, we were managing change orders through written communication and supporting documentation, but now we are able to have the discussion in project meetings, then pass through the Change Order approval as a budget change and there is an affirmative action on their part. It's great!

Pros

The activity dashboard is the best part of Mavenlink. A feed that allows you to keep track of official communications and notes is perfect, plus it keeps clients involved. The API is also very strong and allows us to generate reports FAR beyond what is offered by Mavenlink. Our ability to manage projects and people has greatly increased due to the features that have been implemented since we switched to Mavenlink.

Cons

The Gantt chart needs a lot of work. The interface is slow and clunky, plus it is not a great view for the executives and sponsors, visually speaking. The purpose of this chart is not really to "manage" the project, but instead show a high level overview of everything. There is currently no great way to show this to execs and sponsors. There needs to be a better mobile experience as well. We need a fully functional way to log time, complete tasks, post activity and generally manage projects from Android and iOS.

Frustrating

I wind up creating my own task list on paper, in Trello, or in OneNote so I can stay out of the software as much as possible.

Pros

It does have decent formatting options within task descriptions and comments

Cons

Completely unintuitive. Lacking basic features like sorting tasks, cloning/copying tasks. Sometimes the limit on nesting tasks becomes a problem.

Mavenlink: Excellent Productivity Tools

Pros

The formatting of the time entry section is clear and easy to track. There's never been a moment that I had to click around in confusion to conclude what tasks were completed. Keeping the projects in a clear visual flow is certainly Mavenlink's strongest trait.

Cons

The past year of use hasn't provided me with anything to complain about!

Mavenlink is a Great Project Management Tool

Mavenlink has allowed us to track everything coming in and out of our department on a daily, monthly and yearly basis. This has shown the demand for our services and how well we manage our time with this demands. We are also able to easily invite those outside of our department to join in and collaborate, which has simplified our daily request process. Everything can be found in one place.

Pros

Mavenlink allows for our team to easily collaborate on projects from beginning to end. We can cater our tasks to our specific needs and show the progress along the way for everyone to see. The updates that are sent via email keep me on track with the numerous projects I have at hand. The time tracking integration is beneficial to us when we are working with outside clients. This function is simple to use!

Cons

I find it difficult to access archived projects when I need to refer back to them. It appears that you need to know the exact title of the project in order to search it. Even though the time tracking function is simple to use, I do wish I could pause my time on one project without tracking it and move to another project where I start tracking time as well. I feel that I have to submit small increments of time often because I cannot do this.
