Getting better and better

Overall experience is great. The team listens to anything and everything.

PROS

Simplicity. The interface and functionality are created for architects. The team is growing. The software is getting better and better. They are very mindful of how to add new features and how it is going to affect the user's experience.

CONS

The feature set is small, but growing each quarter. But to be honest that is not much of a "Con" since all the other softwares we researched are so packed full of "stuff" that you don't know which thing really matters to your business.

Reasons for switching to Monograph

Simplicity.

We love Monograph and use it daily to track time, schedule and budget

Great! So very helpful and easy for my small architecture firm to implement and my staff to use. It keeps everyone abreast of each projects schedule, budget and expenses. The schedule Gannt Chart graphic is awesome. Readily shows our progress, our expenditures and milestones.

PROS

So easy right out of the box for our architecture firm. All the phases, schedules and budgets are prepopulated, just a little editing is needed and you're on your way. It's nice to see Monograph taking our comments and pumping up new and improved features on a regular basis.

CONS

Invariably, our accountants need to use Quickbooks. Which is forcing us to still have QBO. The interface and synchronization between Monograph and QBO is lacking. For one, the invoice numbers get lost and have to be manually checked and plugged into QBO after the fact. A real pain if not done right away. Also, the connection to Quickbooks is lost ever day, which I almost always don't notice until I am at the end of an invoice and have to back out, force the connection and then go back into the invoice to send to QBO. Would be nice to have the connection constant or be able to update it straight from an invoice when we would send data to QBO. Also, if QBO doesn't have the client or project, it won't send the invoice data. Which is less than helpful. Lots of manual back data needed to push a new client, invoice to QBO. Way too much.

Reason for choosing Monograph

Out of the box ease of use. Graphic visualization of a project budget and schedule. Ability to readily and easily edit data, both past and present.

Reasons for switching to Monograph

Quickbooks is not set up for an architecture office with clients with multiple projects, or phases of mixed fee types (hourly & fixed). BQE Core is so very robust and works great for an architecture office. But it is so very difficult to navigate and adjust data, timesheets, schedules. When I last used Core pre-pandemic, schedule visualization and revision was non-existent. Perhaps they have improved upon that, but Monograph makes it so visible and easy to adjust.

First impressions....

The benefits are wonderful and I'm really really excited about the program. All of our employees can immediately see the benefit of integrating time management/hours spent on a project with general project management, milestones, and tasks.

PROS

The most impactful part of Monograph has been the project schedule and forecasting. Seeing what we have under contract and seeing the duration of those projects is going to greatly help manage our team and properly set expectations for our clients. I also really love the milestones and task application where we can assign things for people to do and then have a dialog about those things within each project and make sure they have been completed.

CONS

The biggest thing we would like to see change is how project fees are structured. At the moment, it is best set up for fixed fee projects, but all of our contracts are set up with three different fee types: hourly- not to exceed, hourly with no cap, and fixed. It would be helpful to have some customization to the fee structure that can then get assigned to the different phases. For the projects themselves, I would like to see the tasks and milestones be more present on the project overview page and when you navigate to the individual phase of a project, I would like to see the milestones and tasks that are in that phase and be able to add more within that page rather than have to navigate to a separate page that does not show me the gantt chart/schedule. I'm not sure how the expenses tracking feature would really work for us and currently don't see using it. None of our employees generate expenses. Any expenses for a project mostly come in the form of reimbursables (consultants, printing, permitting fees, etc.). A dream down the road would be some integration with Slack that sends a notification to individuals or channels dedicated to that project to notify them of assigned tasks, deadline reminders, etc.

Reason for choosing Monograph

It seems as though Monograph was developed specifically for our industry and the nuances for how we have to structure and track time and billing.

Outstanding Software and Company

PROS

I love how comprehensive Monograph is. You don't have to spend a ton of time "finding" features; it is mainly common sense! The gantt charts are easy to understand at a glance, and for normal employees the software makes it very simple to keep track of your time and expenses. Highly recommend this software.

CONS

We do wish we could customize our invoices a bit more. As an architecture firm, we are laser-focused on all material that goes out from our firm - including invoices. These are a little basic in terms of aesthetic, but I know Monograph is working on implementing more capabilities regarding this. Not a big complaint at all!

Reason for choosing Monograph

Monograph is truly beautiful to work with in so many aspects. Firstly, the zoom call with [SENSITIVE CONTENT] was so relaxed and informative. He walked us through the software and assisted with any questions we had. Monograph's personal touch of 1. the [SENSITIVE CONTENT] giving you the run-down of the software (unheard of) 2. [SENSITIVE CONTENT] allowing all participants to actually speak on the Zoom call (competitors only allow you to type your questions!). Next, the sales department is so helpful and not pushy whatsoever. [SENSITIVE CONTENT] was a huge help for me in understanding different components and capabilities that Monograph can offer our firm (thanks [SENSITIVE CONTENT]!). I can't wait to dive deeper into this software; it is going to save our company so much time and headache! Thanks Monograph team for everything - keep doing things this way!

A super user-friendly, functional, time and project management option for Architects

We're honestly just getting started, but the company seems very approachable and open to building in features as required. I like the flexibility and nimbleness that they're offering. It's an EASY to understand interface as well.. and that's just the BEST.

PROS

I was really looking for a time tracking and project management tool for our Architects and PM's to be able to actively see how their hours are tracking against contract budgets. Every month, we were using exported xls spreadsheets to review time already spent - and every month, I'd notice that we'd be coming up short on projects. Their "money gantt" feature allows all employees to see how they're tracking on project's profitability in real-time. It's a great tool for both employees and employers to keep everyone on track.

CONS

It's young... meaning that some of the features are still being implemented and developed. However, that's not necessarily a bad thing. New features are coming fast. Integration of customer feedback seems to happen quickly.

Reasons for switching to Monograph

We've been using Deltek for many years - but never fully realized the PM or tracking potential. The interface was just too complicated for the PM's to actively use. We decided to switch to Unanet and were probably 75% into the product set up when it became obvious that it was nothing more than a CLONE of Deltek. They say its code architecture is completely rebuilt from scratch - but the UI is essentially a stripped-down copy of Deltek. Clearly, the developers came out of Deltek and that's all they know. Monograph is completely different. While it's lacking some of the integrated accounting functionality, it's user interface is so easy to use that we feel that it's actually going to be used to everyone's advantage

Monograph has come a long way, and its future is bright!

Our company searched long and hard for a project management platform before deciding to move forward with Monograph way back in the Beta version. We wanted a place we could go to tell us how we were doing on project estimation and budgets, as well as a scheduling tool we could go to in order to see when we could fit certain projects into our pipeline. Monograph does both exceedingly well.

PROS

I love the ease of use of Monograph. For the level of detail Monograph supports, it's always easy and super intuitive to use.

CONS

Monograph does not interface with Quickbooks, so you either have to invoice from Monograph and duplicate in QB or duplicate time in QB to invoice in there. Either way you're doubling up work, which is not ideal.

Reason for choosing Monograph

Nothing was a sleek or intuitive as Monograph. Nothing was as cheap at the time and no company was developing their platform as fast or as efficiently as Monograph. It was a pretty easy decision to make.

Perfect for Architecture Phasing & Project Management

It's much easier for me to keep track of project phasing and time spent towards various projects, clients and/or architectural phases. As a young aspiring professional, it's been a relief to have found such a user-friendly and organizationally-thorough project and work management software to help me navigate and organize my architectural career.

PROS

Integrating Monograph with our existing business processes was quite easy, and we soon found that the Monograph interface offered every aspect of project organization and management that we could think of. I'm currently collecting my AXP hours with the intention of becoming licensed, and this system has also made it very easy for me to refer to past timesheets and easily determine which AXP categories have been satisfied by various hours and requirements. Also, the team at monograph was always helpful and quick to respond, even on matters that weren't urgent.

CONS

The only thing that is missing from this software is a corresponding phone app, ideally with just as navigable an interface as the website layout. Hopefully over time and with enough support, Monograph will be able to develop this in the upcoming future.

Reasons for switching to Monograph

When it came to architectural phasing and recording time spent on what areas of which projects, the Monograph user interface was much more straightforward and directed towards our kind of project management workflows. They seemed to cater more to architects than our previous products, and that ultimately made it easier for us to record and understand our own business development.

Vendor Response

Thank you for your feedback! While we do not currently have a mobile app, you can visit our Knowledge Base at support.monograph.com for information on how to add our mobile site as a Home Screen Shortcut, so that you can easily track your timesheet on the go.

It's ok for basic uses

I am not solving any business problems through Monograph. I just use it daily to track time, create invoices, maybe track projects.

PROS

I can track my time per project and create invoices from it which is my primary use. The format of the software is simple and easy to read and mostly navigate.

CONS

You cannot customize the invoice - the default invoice format is also quite large; I'm surprised that this was designed by architects and not customizable. It doesn't quite make sense about how to track budgets and time in the project setup so I have not used it as much. It's not as flexible either if your project is very flexible and not as rigid (hourly, open ended, etc). Customer service is kind of hit or miss; it takes a few days for a response and then at one point, I had to schedule a zoom call appt just to answer a question that could have taken a few minutes to properly answer (they could not clearly answer my question in a chatbox). They say they are a project management software company and not an accounting company which I understand, but time is always tied to money in an architectural software tracking projects. So the fact that I cannot really look back and report on invoice tracking (YTD, MTD, etc.) and estimates and whatnot, seems counterproductive to me. I was told to use another software program to do all my accounting. I was initially looking for a one stop shop to provide all my needs as a working designer/architect. The other programs I've looked into also fall short so it is what it is.

Reason for choosing Monograph

Pricing vs. what I actually needed and was going to use it for. I looked into about 10+ different software programs.

Reasons for switching to Monograph

Was not customizable and there continued to be bug issues that BT could not fix. It just did not seem like the program for me and it was more about it being tied to Quickbooks.

Not quite perfect but a huge step up nonetheless

Overall, I would say that my team is pretty happy with everything Monograph has done for us so far. Keep in mind, we're only a month into use. It's taken about 3 weeks to move most of our past data into the software and that's partially due to being a smaller team during a slow period before the next wave of work hits. I'm nitpicking in the cons because this software is genuinely just that close to covering all of the basis our firm needs as far as project management goes and, once they address those issues, this will absolutely save you time and headache in figuring out how well a project's timeline is doing.

PROS

After we reached a point in needing software to manage our several projects, this was absolutely what we need to help keep track of allotting time fairly. Being able to plan your week out in advance, see your timeline and budget, and what hours your teammates are assigned all in once place is a crucial asset for a growing business.

CONS

UI still has a lot of kinks that need to be worked out as well as a few features that many businesses would have a need for. An example of UI is how the time is logged as hourly instead of WHEN you worked (like 3pm-4:30pm in a meeting). Another example is that the time tracking interface on the sidebar can be finicky (such as sometimes the time entries you've created for the day will randomly go missing but reappear when you refresh the page.) Biggest feature missing is while this app is tailor made for managing projects, there's no designated space for Office Management time tracking (such as office meetings, maintenance, marketing, things that can't be charged towards a client). We were told this was a common request that they were working on, but that in the mean time, retrofitting a "project" into office management was the current best practice. Having tasks be somehow integrating into time tracking (such as, associating the hours logged to a task that was assigned) would be incredibly helpful.

Reasons for switching to Monograph

While the previous product was easy to use and great at creating tasks, it was clear it was a general platform for businesses rather than architecture businesses, and we needed something that could tell us where our hours were being assigned.

Hopeful for more features

PROS

1. Strongest features are the Gantt type graph with small bar showing progress on value earned. Second, the roles that can be assigned independently.

CONS

2. The first month I used the software, I loved it. However, as the months go on, I have found that it doesn’t easily recap and present information as I hoped. Some of the tools and filters give decent overviews, but not specific enough information for a manager/proprietor. 3. Need to have clients that can assign project below and add filters in reports, widgets, project view, etc. of items by client. 4. Adjust dates by pulling graphical bars w/o having to open project “edit” mode, also gives ability to see other projects’ schedules when adjusting. I do like the new update with it defaulting to the planner instead of the general information. But you should be able to adjust schedules in context - that is the advantage of the project view in your design. Leverage it further. 5. Values shown exceed fixed amounts, should show effective hourly rate instead of “value earned” as hourly add-up of time. Or an option that payroll will exceed budget with the value earned calculation you are using. Problem is, even the “fixed” budgets add up this way in the dashboard which does not accurately portray for flat fee projects. Could have more options in this manner for employee pay as well. Some projects are flat fees for freelancers you hire, etc. 6. When invoicing, adding hours to the invoice does not provide any options for knowing what is previously billed. You must manually look back at each invoice to determine what is new billable hours. Extra steps are more time consu

User Friendly

PROS

Love how easy and user friendly Monograph is. It has the features that we need without the frills and complications of other softwares. The team at Monograph has been so helpful and the access to all their articles has been a huge benefit.

CONS

There are a couple features that I wish Monograph had, like batch AR reporting and a setting to create an invoice template, but hopefully these are features that can be added soon.

Reasons for switching to Monograph

We were not getting the data we needed, while having someone doing data entry almost full-time, which was a waste of time. The implementation process alone took over 6 months and when spending as much as you are on their software, 6 months is way too much time.

Good simple to use Architecture budget/project management software

Overall, the software has been pretty intuitive. Their seems to be less of a daunting learning curve with Monograph compared to other project management software. Itsgreat that the software is architecture specific.

PROS

The software does what I need it to do. It provides a good overview of my projects, as well as helps keep track of time and budget

CONS

I don't like that the week on the timesheets is weird. It starts on Monday and ends Sunday, and there is no way to change it. I let them know about it and they said its on their list for future improvements, so that's good.

Great Product for Architects

Excellent! The support has been great, the community is wonderful - love that Monograph has been putting on events for all.

PROS

Unlike other project management and time tracking software, this product provides the capability to track project budget/fees in phases that align with the architecture industry's standards.

CONS

One of the most valuable things about this software is the ability to track hours against the project fee. We wish that the status of each project related to the project fee was more clear (percentage complete, time remaining for each phase, etc). You have to click into several menus to get to this info.

Great tool for Project Management & Time Tracking that's interface is easy to understand

So far we have had good feedback and engagement with our team and Monograph. It is helping us schedule out time for team members on a weekly basis. Everyone on the team is able to see how the project is performing and we can manage the time spent to avoid going over on project budgets. We have been able to utilize it to see the number of projects within the office and how the schedules stack up against each other.

PROS

The ability to see how a project is performing on a daily/weekly/monthly basis in an easily accessible way and course correct as needed before going over the project budget. Everyone on the team has access to all the necessary project information and it all lives in one place. Being able to schedule out people's time weekly and then see how that allocation is used throughout the week.

CONS

Biggest difficulty is navigation between the tabs - i.e. Timesheet, to Resource, to Projects, etc. There is a long lag when loading each one of those. Most of our team members have multiple tab opens to navigate between each just due to the lag. When in a project the only place to get to the tasks is through the Task tab at the top. Our team tends to click on the phase to see what's been allocated for that phase but then has to back out to the Project Dashboard to get back to the Tasks. Could be a way to get to it from multiple places, as there is that feature for other things in Monograph. Task updates don't have notifications within the software to the assigned team members. We use the comments section of tasks to talk/track info with our team members for that specific task. For accounting purposes, we still have to use another program. I don't think this program is robust enough for our invoicing/billing and accounting needs.

Reasons for switching to Monograph

Information was having to live in too many programs and the Project Management of Infocus was cumbersome and not intuitive for the team leaders. Google Sheets was not smart but more just a mechanism for gathering the information of time spent/needed on a project.

PROS

Colorful. Carries information over from week to week. The circular graph. Can log in from anywhere.

CONS

Difficult to make changes when you add time to the wrong project phase, and/or need to change the phase, and/or when projects change (i.e. grow and become two projects, or change name, etc), without deleting and re-entering new time. When typing a description in the "add a note" cell box, the back arrow doesn't work well. Good platform for architecture time tracking

PROS

This platform keeps everything our office needs for time tracking and project management in one place.

CONS

Updating hours in the field on the go is near impossible and manual input once we get back to the office isn't the easiest. If you don't know how much time but you know about when you started and stopped, you have to do the math converting 4:00pm - 4:52pm site visit into '52 minutes' into '.xx' hours

Underwhelmed Daily User

PROS

Time tracking is easy, although monograph doesn't easily connect with very many payroll or HR systems, requiring information to be extracted and entered manually.

CONS

The graphics don't always align with the data (showing that a milestone has passed when the due date is actually today), you can't filter projects by milestone - which is how most offices prioritize their time/tasks. Every time I extend a phase of a project, monograph randomly moves the milestone date, which requires going back and reentering the milestone date....

Reasons for switching to Monograph

We were excited about a product that was supposed to work for architecture firms, but it doesn't seem to truly be tailored to that use

Vendor Response

Thank you for your feedback! We're currently in the process of enhancing Tasks and Milestones. We'd be happy to set up a call with our customer experience team to learn more about your needs!

Architect's Project management tool

We have had a great experience with Monograph! They are very responsive and helpful!

PROS

I like that the marriage of an architects and accountants thought process to create a tool that will help the two work together to track projects! I like that they are constantly improving and always there to help! Awesome to be a part of the start up and have some input to what we would like to have.

CONS

Some features still need work, but they are working on it.

Vendor Response

Thank you for the kind feedback! We're so glad to hear that you enjoy using Monograph.

Best Timesheet System!

I have always disliked taking the time to put my time into a timesheet in the past. I no longer dislike it with this program. It's incredibly easy to use and I enjoy being able to track my progress over an extended period of time. Much better than our previous method of using a spreadsheet.

PROS

I really enjoy being able to clearly see how much time I have put into a specific project. Being able to look back and get a better understanding of where my time has been utilized is a powerful tool.

CONS

I would like to be able to have all of my previous timesheet items on the next week's timesheet instead of needing to put everything back into the new timesheet. Also, the ability to search for a project by typing would be very useful.

Vendor Response

Thank you for your feedback! We've added these items to our request board for the team to review for future enhancements.

Simple way to take care of admin

Integration into our workflow has been simple. Tracking time and expenses for projects is simpler and faster than other methods. Web based program instead of installed program prevents software programs and integrates customer support in if necessary

PROS

It's easy to use. The features are intuitive so employees don't have to feel like it's a hassle to keep up with office administration which is our least favorite part of the job.

CONS

The separation in features between projects and overhead is not as intuitive

Reasons for switching to Monograph

New job at new firm
