I love the way it uses priority level, task duration, and time maps to find a time slot for the most important things I have to get done. #### Cons My only real complaint is how slow and laggy it is on both with web and iOS versions. For the price, it seems like it should be much snappier, regardless of how many tasks I have. I'm sure it takes a lot of compute power to run this app, but it's not the greatest value without that speed element. I think I would even be willing to pay a little more if SkedPal got everything running quickly. Great! It is the only to-do app that I have used consistently over a long period of time. Due to the calendar integration and intuitive prioritisation. Since it gives both a list based overview on top of scheduling to do's in your calendar, you really feel like you have full control over your to do's. It also really helps me think about whether something is necessary in the first place. It also does not feel so logical that you constantly have to press 'connect' and 'update schedule'. No incentive was offered I used to have my calendar and my to do list. I would waste time sorting my to do list to figure out what I needed to do at that moment in time. I then switched to putting to do items in my calendar, only to not complete some of them and then end up playing daily Tetris trying to go grab them from past days and put them into future days, it was horribly inefficient. Skedpal acts as my assistant, aware of what I need to get done when, planning my schedule out multiple weeks and allowing others to see when I am available and then planning around those meetings. This means that the learning curve is high, but once you get the hang of it, it's amazing how well it flows everything together. Outside of work, I am a private pilot and Skedpal feels like a really good air traffic controller that can talk to planes (all my tasks and events) coming from all directions, at different speeds, different altitudes, different priorities, and line them all up "in sequence" so they land on time, in the right order and without delay. Skedpal saves me enough time each day I would be willing to pay well over $100/month for it. #### Cons Skedpal could improve (and I know they are working on it now as they keep users well up to speed on new features through the slack channel) their mobile applications. The natural language processing for sorting tasks in the programs inbox only really work well on the web app which means when I have a few spare minutes dozens of times throughout the day, I would love to be able to sort some tasks but lack the power to do that in the mobile app. Hopefully the new updates address that, at which point, it will be such a powerhouse application! #### Reasons for switching to SkedPal Skedpal has a far superior set of tools and functions that allow you to really make it work for you. As I learned the software I kept wishing to have a certain feature, only to find it in the user manual and then implement it. With calendar/task apps this is critical because we all have our own workflows and if a tool is missing a key function it can make integrating the app into our lives difficult. It is so easy to add tasks, events, re-prioritize and easily re-plan what is next. It also helps me see whether I can get my planned work done in a certain time frame or reprioritize. #### Cons It can take a bit to figure out! I feel like I am still learning the ins and outs of different features and occasionally I will want to do something that the platform does not do. That being said, the number of features and functionalities are incredible. I consider myself a fairly tech-savvy person and I love trying out new tools. I enter tasks with start and/or due dates, and give SkedPal access to see my calendar, as well as time maps for scheduling certain types or categories of work. SkedPal puts together a schedule for me and generates a calendar. Poof! I know what to do and when to do it. AND it tells me if I'm over-booking myself, or if I skip a task, it will reschedule it for me. #### Cons I'm a fan of multiple levels of sub-tasks, which isn't currently supported (though I believe there are future plans to better support sub-tasks). There are plenty of ways to work around this, but it isn't ideal. I struggled with task management for years to the point that the number of open tasks overwhelmed and blocked me mentally. I wanted to try time blocking and stumbled across SkedPal. I was actually very reluctant to try the app, as I didn't believe their concept could ever work. But I gave it a shot, and I was "converted" instantly! I used to hate looking at my to-do list, for no matter how well I organised it, I was still faced with the challenge of working out what to do when. Too often the urgent drove out the important. SkedPal was just what I needed. With SkedPal, not only did I get an massive upgrade in basic task management, with it's intuitive and yet highly configurable interface and layout, but also automated task scheduling. This was groundbreaking for me. Once I'd told SkedPal when I wanted to do certain types of tasks or projects, then all I do is type in a task name, give it an estimated duration, when I want it done by (and optionally started from), assign it to a category, and hit the magical 'Update Schedule' button. SkedPal then crunches the data and outputs an optimised schedule to get all my tasks done on time. If it spots a problem, it makes a suggestion or lets you know it can't schedule one or more of your tasks. It really does take all the hard work out of task scheduling! And if you want more control over certain areas, then you can tweak it's highly customisable inteface. Another feature I love is being able to set up project templates. I have around 5-10 tasks that feature every time I lead a church service or preach a sermon. So for each of those I have a template folder of tasks that I can duplicate every time I need them. I have paid for it twice now. So it is something that I feel helps my life. It is not perfect, but I love a lot of the features. I need to figure out if I can have it remind me of tasks with the mobile app. Task scheduling and batching is great. I wish the tasks could be set for less than five minutes. Some tasks are super quick. Overall, it's been fantastic - a few years ago I had been looking for a similar auto-scheduler for tasks and wasn't able to find one, so was literally just about to try and create my own by linking together various existing cloud-based service - but then saw a mention of Skedpal on a task-management blog and tried it out. It's totally transformed my own planning/organisation as it means I don't have to spend much time at all manually rescheduling tasks when fixed calendar appointments change, and also means I can easily check my capacity for new work/projects/tasks by creating a dummy project or set of tasks and scheduling it to see how it affects all my existing tasks and projects. Huge range of customisation options and different ways that it can be used by users. It's saved me so much time that I used to spend manually planning/scheduling my flexible tasks around fixed appointments - now I can literally do this in a few seconds automatically. #### Cons It's a very powerful app, although it does take a lot of learning and then careful thought and planning to set it up to suit your own unique requirements (so that it will schedule things accurately). Having said that, once that stage is done it works very well indeed and the support (directly and also in the Skedpal forum/community) is excellent - the app creator is very pro-active at listening to feedback from users and updating the app to improve or fix issues. It was not challenging to get my outlook calendar integrated with the app. I like how the ap functions intuitively for me- a list which can be color coded, tagged, and prioritized then moved into blocks of time that shift as you complete tasks. I've been using the app for ~5 months and have still not learned how to use the app to its full potential (I think with a little digging it would be really helpful for time sheets) and occasionally find myself not using the app because my priorities have changed quickly and I didn't change them in the app. Overall its a great tool that does take some time to get used to and take full advantage of. #### Cons I think there is room for improvement in integration with microsoft, and dark mode has been promised since I've been a paying user but there does not seem to be much movement on actually adding that feature (which I think would prevent many people from using the app). SkedPal makes detailed level task planning feasible, it's that simple. I have not found another tool that can claim this, and really back it up. Everything else I've used over the years has not really solved the problem of actually scheduling for your whole life. It's a game changer. I do a lot of Project Management in my life, and I've even thought about recommending the tool to folks on the teams that I manage. these are the folks who get those 1-2 week tasks assigned to them. OK, the task is assigned, now how do they schedule it into their lives? I don't know of any other tools that do this for you to the extent that SkedPal does. It is not just a pretty "Task Manager" (like OmniFocus, etc.), it helps you take all of your million-billion tasks in your work and personal life and schedule them (based on task duration, deadlines, different Time Allocations, etc.) around the rest of your "appointments," even telling you what it cannot schedule them, and giving options to "triage" the situation. #### Cons In the Prior version (SkedPal2) there were a lot of minor bugs and some moderate ones, as well, but the concept was well worth it, and I was still a daily user. In SkedPal3, which I am helping to Beta Test now, the concept is really implemented well, and I don't foresee the same "bugginess." After countless experimenting with other task/project management software, I have found SkedPal. I feel that weight has been removed from my shoulders. Because of the ingenious deployment of technology in SkedPal, I am now able to reclaim a lot of strength and focus from scheduling/planning and repurpose both to production. I have always been productive when working. I now have greater bandwidth to do more. There was always tension before planning and scheduling my work; I have a lot of commitments. No more. I have always had anxiety when reporting my estimated workload and due dates to my employer and customers. No longer. I have always liked working. Now, for the reasons above and the side effects resulting from the same, I have a substantially increased sense of joy while working. I can first offload all of the tasks in my mind, so I don’t have to worry about what is and what is not getting done. I have been more realistic in my planning and better able to gauge how much can be done each week. I also don’t spend as much time time-blocking my tasks, since Skedpal does that for me automatically. Once you settle your system of adding tasks and (in my use case) integrating with Asana...the app starts intelligently putting work on your calendar. As you complete work or priorities change the app continues to update your schedule and blocks time to do the work. If you are realistic in your time estimates and diligent in capturing all your work...it significantly reduces the time required to answer "what should I do next" and increases productivity massively. #### Cons The integrations. The Asana integration while quite useful, needs a feature upgrade. The Zapier integration does not offer many trigger options or actions. The complexity of getting things in the right order. It takes a while to get the balance of priorities, schedules, due-dates, etc so that tasks are getting placed in your calendar in a way that you expect them to. It is eventually doable to get into ta rhythm, however the investment is not trivial.
