Bishops Court wanted to modernize the way our association operates while improving communication, transparency, and access to information for our homeowners\. What has impressed me most is that HOA Start does not simply provide software and leave the association to figure everything out. Their team has worked with us throughout the process and has shown a genuine interest in understanding our community and helping us build a platform that meets our specific needs. The White-Glove onboarding and concierge service have been especially valuable to our volunteer Board. The HOA Start team has been responsive, patient, professional, and willing to work closely with us as we developed our new Bishops Court website, organized community information and governing documents, established our member directory, and prepared for online payments and electronic forms. The platform brings information, communication, financial tools, and website management together in one convenient location and provides excellent value for a self-managed HOA. #### Cons Because HOA Start offers so many features and customization options, the initial setup and learning process can take some time, particularly when transitioning years of HOA information and procedures into one system. The site setup management is very straightforward to use, allowing a site to be created very quickly. The forms is another easy to use and very flexible design making a lot of customization to be done. #### Cons I do not really have a least favorite thing. While nothing is perfect and difficult as each community is different, I think it hits all the points that a community would need. I do wish the ticketing was a bit more robust. We are celebrating our first anniversary of going live with ours in a community with 2200 members. Key HOA Start (HOAS) elements in our success:We built and administer our whole site with community volunteers. Training interested volunteers is easy with the high level of support from HOAS.Our annual cost of running our website went from $12k/year with another system and a paid webmaster to $1200/year with HOAS.Easy integration with external resources make it possible to extend our site with links directly to applications for specialized functions.The response time to support "tickets" is amazing with a dedicated support agent - on workdays it is in a couple of hours, on weekends and holidays, early the first following workday.We reviewed the whole marketplace before choosing HOAS. Chock-full simple to access information. Especially helpful and easy to view is our community calendar, our birthdays calendar and our events calendar! #### Cons Admins need to be quite tech savvy but that's ok. In our case, we are a 55+ retirement community so there are relatively few residents who are tech savvy. We wanted a way to disseminate documents, manage members, communicate and streamline our architectural control process. The first and last are well accomplished. We're still struggling with the middle one. It's extraordinarily easy if you have learned to get data from your county assessor's database. Members were a bit more difficult at first, because not all have email addresses, which are required. But a question to our contact revealed the magic trick of using @example.com. I like the ease of changing web pages' content, with the preview option to make certain the changes look right. Our architectural control committee is delighted with the ticketing system. They will campaign absinthe any hint of wanting to abandon the software. #### Cons Messaging members is our least favorite part. We do it regularly, and wish we could do more with design. We often send aplain text message, with the graphic version as an attachment, but our older population find this challenging. The demo of their product and services was very helpful. It was so easy to get set up and start working on a new website the same day! There are helpful guides to show/tell you the steps to do things and videos for many tasks as well. There's a guided process with online tech support or - the option I really like - the White-Glove package with phone/Zoom support from a team member who will actually build the site for you! If you're in a hurry to get a website done and don't have the time to do it yourself, this is perfect. This is a must have! Multiple calendar/event options are great for busy communities who want to organize multiple board/committee meetings and community events. The member dashboard is a great place for residents to see everything at a glance. The online forms and online review/approval for residents and board members is a huge convenience. #### Cons When setting up new pages, it would be nice to have a visual of what the page template looks like to make the best decision. #### Reasons for switching to HOA Start HOA Start has a lot of new features coming out that are beneficial for residents and board members. The ease of use with online form submissions, such as ARC forms, that need to be reviewed and approved by a committee is easier. It was difficult to navigate, and to administrate, so after the last administrator left, it never go used, but we were still paying for the monthly subscription.Also, your onboarding person, [sensitive content hidden] was outstanding! I don't use that term loosely. She was thorough, and very knowledgeable about the product. She was always very prompt in returning support questions. I happened a number of times, where I'd be doing set-up late at night and have a question, and send it to her. By the next morning, she had already answered me, often replying to me at 5-5:30 in the morning, and we're on the same time zone! After an exhaustive search, I found HOA Start and couldn't be happier. The site is beautiful, intuitive, interactive, budget friendly and so easy to build and navigate. We were assigned our very own Support Rep and [sensitive content hidden] has been amazing - so helpful and supportive. Our community is very proud of our new website and we are getting engagement from residents who swore they would never use a website. We can keep members only content private, while still being able to let prospective residents know how great our community is! Communicating with our residents has never been easier. We used the event capabilities to set up the event online and the credit card capabilities to charge people. Also, it's newer than most of it's competitors out there. Most others I found were 15-20 years old and they looked it. Also, we maintain it ourselves as opposed to relying on the website company. therefore, changes happen in hours and are exactly what we want them to be. Overall my experience with HOA Start has been extremely positive. Having researched other offerings out there, HOA Start was by far the best choice, especially for an association like ours with more basic needs than larger associations but needing more than the bare minimum. Others offered either the bare minimum, or were geared and priced toward large & complex associations, or their pricing tiers were based on # of units and generalized assumptions about HOAs which was not reflective of the nature and needs of our specific association.My experience with HOA Start in terms of product quality, support and price/value has been great so far. There is a good range of website templates to choose from and they are straight-forward and simple to set up, edit and maintain. HOA Start has really good help resources and video tutorials, and the support desk has been great and super responsive. #### Cons Not necessarily a con, but it would be nice if there was the ability to customize certain aspects of the template, i.e. set default fonts, specify colors for links, etc.There could be improvements in the invoicing/payment systems. I've run into some limitations and bumps that have required figuring out various workarounds. #### Vendor response Our Specialists work hard for our clients on every plan purchased, regardless of size.
