### A Powerful Research Repository that Helps a Solo UXR Scale

- Overall rating: 5/5
- Reviewer: Teresa H.
- Verified reviewer: Yes
- Industry: Consumer Electronics
- Company size: 5001-10000 employees
- Product usage: Used daily for more than 2 years
- Reviewed: August 2026
- Review source details: This reviewer was invited by the software vendor to submit an honest review.

Overall, my experience with Marvin has been very positive. It has evolved from being a place to house research into an important part of my overall UXR workflow. As the only researcher on my team, I’m constantly balancing research execution, recruitment, research operations, synthesis, and stakeholder communication. Marvin helps reduce some of that manual work while making the research I conduct much easier to find and reuse later. The biggest value for me is that research doesn’t have to end when a study is complete. I can go back to previous interviews and studies, search across them, identify patterns, and bring existing customer evidence into new product conversations. That makes our research repository much more useful as organizational knowledge rather than simply an archive.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Marvin gives me one centralized place to store, organize, analyze, and revisit research. As a solo UX researcher supporting multiple products and teams, the AI-assisted analysis, transcription, tagging, and powerful search capabilities save me a significant amount of time. I especially value being able to find insights across past studies instead of research getting buried in individual reports. The growing integrations with other tools also make it easier to bring research insights into the places where stakeholders already work.

#### Cons

One of the biggest challenges has been getting colleagues outside of UX Research, such as Product Management, Marketing, and Sales, to regularly go into Marvin and explore the research repository themselves. This is less about the quality of the repository and more about the natural friction of asking stakeholders to adopt another tool and incorporate it into their existing workflows. However, I’m excited about Marvin’s new MCP capabilities because they have the potential to significantly reduce that barrier by allowing stakeholders to access and leverage research insights through the tools and AI workflows they already use. If that works as expected, this may become much less of a concern over time.

#### Reasons for choosing Marvin

I chose Marvin because it offered the best combination of functionality, cost, and usability for a one-person UX Research team. The UX/UI is intuitive and makes it easy to manage research without adding unnecessary complexity to my workflow. Another major factor has been how quickly the Marvin team continues to evolve the product. They consistently add features that are genuinely useful to researchers, with newer capabilities like MCP being a great example. I appreciate that the platform continues to grow alongside the way research and AI workflows are changing. Cost was also an important consideration. As a solo researcher, I needed a platform that provided robust repository, analysis, and AI capabilities without requiring the budget or infrastructure of a large research team. Marvin gave me the functionality I needed at a price that made sense for our research program.

#### Reasons for switching to Marvin

The product did not align with my needs.

### After trying several platforms, Marvin is my research workspace of choice

- Product usage: Used weekly for more than 2 years

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

So many things. The core functionality is straightforward, clean, and focused. Capturing content, transcribing, coding, and sharing is all much cleaner than how our processes once were. The thoughtful implementation of AI is great and I trust the team to keep moving with intention on these implementations. In the end, Marvin is the platform that has helped me genuinely pursue a vision of research built with cumulative effect, clearly traceable chains of evidence, and highly transparent research documentation. It makes it easier to do all the things I learned in my training about the "right way" to do the work. Working with this platform I've gotten to know the team behind it as well (because they're also SUPER responsive) and I am excited to see where they'll bring this platform, because something tells me it will push my own thinking into new frontiers of what is possible.

#### Cons

If I had my preference, I would make Marvin our primary repository for knowledge management around product development. Marvin is home to everything research and insight, and I wouldn't honestly suggest they should veer out of that lane because they are great specialists in a field poised for revolution with specialist tools. But the major seam in our work is still persistently being able to track those chains of evidence from the presentation or roadmap built on top of the research all the way back to the original recordings, survey questions, and journal entries all stored in Marvin. To REALLY get it right we need to rethink some of our workflows and storytelling to live in this platform a little bit longer (because they have plenty of functionality to do that storytelling that we just aren't making the most use out of.)

#### Reasons for switching to Marvin

Initially the switch was mostly about cost and access to the team. However, after making the switch, the user experience and constant addition of meaningful functionality has kept us deeply engaged and growing our use cases.

#### Vendor response

Thank you so much, Benjamin! If we had our choice, we'd be your team's primary repository too. We're here when you're ready!

As a business we love using Marvin. It gets quite challenging to use Marvin with multiple languages but the team seem very receptive to feedback which is great to see!

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

Really easy to organise your findings and label up your themes Really great user interface that feels familiar and is easy to grasp

#### Cons

The transcription can be a bit hit and miss, with punctuation sometimes missing etc. For cross market projects, the translation feature can sometimes be poor Although the AI tools can be useful, they still have quite a long way to go to be super helpful

#### Reasons for choosing Marvin

The AI tools were superior vs. others in the market

Out entire product and design team uses Marvin, when working on a new feature we collect video snippets to share context with the teams working on the feature, stakeholders and other PMs. We put these snippets in our one-pager and PRDs.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

1) Very powerful search and AI GPT-style "ask me anything" that allows me to make sense out of hundreds of hours of videos. 2) Very easy to organize and share video snippets. 3) Speech to text that works very well, in several languages. 5) Great team that is always striving to gather feedback and constantly improve the product.

#### Cons

The flows of moving between the main screen and projects are a bit confusing as they have a different side navigation, it took a bit getting used to. The recording bot sometimes takes a bit long to join Google Meet if invited manually.

#### Reasons for choosing Marvin

Free tier, ease of use, feature set, pricing.

#### Reasons for switching to Marvin

I used Dovetail in a previous company and in my current company I was looking for a product with a free tier. After a few months I found enough value in Marvin to convince my COO to include it in the budget.
