# Slack User Reviews

## Reviews summary

- Overall rating: 4.7/5
- Total reviews: 24,221

### Secondary ratings

- Ease of use: 4.6/5
- Customer support: 4.4/5
- Value for money: 4.5/5
- Functionality: 4.6/5

### Rating distribution

- 5 stars: 17,400 reviews (72%)
- 4 stars: 5,734 reviews (24%)
- 3 stars: 912 reviews (4%)
- 2 stars: 127 reviews (1%)
- 1 star: 48 reviews (0%)

### Most mentioned pros

- The file sharing mechanism is very smooth—we can drop images and documents straight into a chat, and the search functionality is powerful enough to find old files or specific conversations from months ago using simple keywords.
- Conversations feel more dynamic and efficient than email, and the ability to integrate our most-used apps has reduced a lot of context-switching. Once the team establishes good channel organization and notification habits, Slack becomes a powerful communication hub that boosts productivity and keeps everyone aligned.
- The platform is flexible enough to support a wide variety of workflows and integrates seamlessly with many business tools. While managing notifications and information flow can sometimes be challenging in larger workspaces, the productivity and collaboration benefits far outweigh these limitations.

### Most mentioned cons

- One of Slack's biggest drawbacks is that important information can sometimes get buried in busy channels, making it difficult to keep track of key discussions without using threads consistently. While the search function is generally good, finding older messages or files can occasionally take longer than expected.
- Its free plan has limited message history and integrations. While it’s great for real-time chat, Slack isn’t ideal for long-form discussions or detailed project management.
- Slack Connect and 3rd party app integrations are a good feature but can get annoying when the original user account is deactivated which kills any integrations or connections they originally setup.

We've had a positive experience using Slack as a collaboration platform across multiple departments. It has improved communication, accelerated issue resolution, and provided a centralized location for project discussions and file sharing. From an IT administration perspective, deployment and user management have been straightforward, the platform has proven reliable, and the available integrations have helped streamline daily business operations. Overall, Slack has been a dependable solution that has enhanced productivity and cross-functional collaboration.

The search functionality, file sharing, integrations, and reliable desktop and mobile applications make it easy to collaborate, troubleshoot issues, and keep projects moving efficiently.

### Very useful for student projects and team collaboration

- Product usage: Used weekly for free trial
- Reviewed: August 2026

Overall, my experience with Slack has been really good. I find it especially useful for college projects and team collaboration because communication stays organized and everything related to a project can be kept in one place. It is simple enough for regular chatting but also has features that make it useful for more serious teamwork. The file sharing and search options are probably the features I use the most. For a student working on group projects, I think Slack is definitely worth trying.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

I really like how easy Slack makes it to communicate and stay updated, especially when working on college projects with a team. As a B.Tech CSE student, I often have different groups for different projects or activities, and having separate channels keeps everything much more organized than using one common chat. Sharing files, sending messages, and discussing things with teammates is also very convenient. I especially like that I can quickly search for old messages or files instead of scrolling through a long chat.

#### Cons

The only thing I found a little difficult in the beginning was getting used to all the different channels and notifications. If you’re part of many groups, it can sometimes feel like there are too many notifications. Once you customize the notifications and organize your channels, though, it becomes much easier to manage.

#### Reasons for switching to Slack

I moved from Discord because Slack felt more suitable for project work and team communication. Discord is great for casual conversations, but I found Slack more organized for keeping different projects, discussions, files, and updates in separate channels. As a CSE student, I also liked the way Slack keeps communication more focused and professional when working with classmates on assignments and projects.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Slack is so much easier to use than other platforms I have had to use in the past. It has a friendly interface, options to create multiple channels, ability to add custom emojis, and overall makes it easy to stay organized in the workplace. It also allows me to easily share files with my team so everyone has access to them quickly. I use it in my daily routine to meet with my team and chat about our daily tasks. The huddle feature is great for that!

#### Cons

Sometimes it has bugs where it doesnt connect my meeting schedule or let me join huddles, but most of the time that it resolved by either restarting the program or restarting my computer. No major issues with Slack.

#### Reasons for switching to Slack

Slack is overall easier to use and has more features than Teams.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5

#### Pros

Ability to communicate in real time with colleagues when we're working remotely. Also for file sharing.

#### Cons

The threads feature is not something that I find particularly intuitive. Obviously, I know how it works, but I don't alwats follow how conversations are threading.

#### Reasons for switching to Slack

Google Workspace chat works well. However, several of our technical staff wanted to use Slack.

Overall I think it is the best chat app for internal communication, and the opportunity to connect with several other apps is just great to have all the necessary always at hand.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Quite easy to use, I prefer it compared to Teams for both visual and chat features. Also file sharing is better and files are easier to open (the in-app preview works really well). Never had major bugs and you can create as many channels as you want. You can connect several other apps like Drive, Calendar, Confluence and Jira which helps a lot with having everything in one environment.

#### Cons

Not the best one for calls. Should be improved to be more similar to Skype. Also not possible to record a meeting. Compared to skype/teams if you want to use it to talk with people from outside the company it is an harder process than just adding them via email address.

#### Reasons for switching to Slack

To have a close environment where to find people from the company only.

Slack is a superb communication platform. It's easy, organized, fun, and effective. Of the many communication tools out there, like Discord and Telegram, Slack stands out with more capability and yet more simplicity.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5

#### Pros

What I most like about Slack are the video call feature (Huddle) and screen-recording feature (which also allows you to record audio and camera with it).

#### Cons

I can't think of anything significant that I don't like about Slack as a product. If anything, being owned by a smaller company rather than Salesforce would be preferred. And maybe having a different product name than "Slack" since it helps your teams get more done!

#### Reasons for switching to Slack

We needed more real-time communication and more collaborative communication in order to be more efficient.

#### Cons

#### Reasons for switching to Slack

Overall, Slack has been great for my team. Whenever I'd talk to customer support, they would be very helpful, but honestly it wasn't that often that I needed help. My coworkers enjoy it, and it allows us to not have to just communicate by email, which can be pretty mundane.

#### Cons

Sometimes, even when turned on, notifications would not pop up on mobile. This caused many team memebrs to miss things or respond to urgent maters later than needed.

Overall, Slack has been very helpful for staying connected with my team. It makes communication faster and helps keep work updates in one place. I especially find it useful for quick questions, project discussions, and sharing documents. Once the channels and notifications are organized properly, it becomes a really useful tool for daily work.

#### Ratings breakdown

#### Pros

What I like most about Slack is how easy it makes day-to-day communication with the team. Instead of long email threads, everything can be discussed quickly in channels or direct messages. I also like that we can share files, tag teammates, and keep conversations organized by topic or project.

#### Cons

The only thing I don’t like sometimes is the number of notifications. When there are too many channels or active conversations, it can feel a bit distracting. It also takes some time to manage the settings properly so you only get alerts for important messages.

After using it five days a week for the last three years, I can't imagine doing my job without it. It's an essential tool for our daily workflow that keeps everyone connected, though it definitely requires some personal discipline to prevent it from taking over your entire workday.

Overall, Slack has been a staple in our tech stack. We have been a customer for 6 years now and will continue to use it to its full capacity. The most useful element is that we can use it with international team members across different time zones with options to keep boundaries and respect work times.

#### Ratings breakdown

I've been a user since 2020 and have never found another system that has been as useful as Slack to communicate with the team, partners, and outside vendors who need instructions or communication. Slack is easy to use and intuitive. I'd be lost without it.

#### Cons

Sometimes there is an error when adding someone to the ecosystem, and it prevents them from being able to join the team on Slack. It gives the new user an error. Other than that, it works just fine.

It has become the main way our team stays in touch and gets things done. It is easy to pick up even for people who are not very tech savvy. There are moments where it feels like too much is happening at once, but once you get used to managing your notifications it works really well day to day.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Pros: What did you like most about Slack? Slack makes team communication a lot easier. Everything is organized by channels so you always know where to find a conversation. Searching for old messages or files is quick and reliable. It also connects well with other tools we already use like Google Drive, Zoom and Samsara, which saves a lot of time switching between apps.

#### Cons

Notifications can get out of hand if you are in a lot of channels. It takes some time to figure out the right settings so you are not constantly interrupted. Also, when too many conversations are happening at once it can feel hard to keep up, and important messages sometimes get buried.

### Excellent communication hub with great AI functions

The interface is clean, the search function actually works well (which is rare for chat apps), and it keeps everything centralized. I wish the native automations had more depth, but as a core messaging platform, nothing else really comes close to how intuitive it is.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Great tool for everyday work communication. The new AI features are actually super useful, especially for summarizing massive, chaotic threads when you come back from a day of meetings. But my absolute favorite part is the Workflow Builder. It makes setting up standardized IT request forms, automated onboarding messages, or daily standups incredibly easy without needing to involve developers. The integrations with almost every other tool we use are just a massive time-saver

#### Cons

Even though the Workflow Builder is great for basic tasks, it hits a wall pretty fast when you need real automation. The lack of proper conditional logic (if/then branching) is frustrating. If you want to build complex, multi-step flows with different outcomes based on user input, the native builder just can't handle it. You still end up having to connect external tools like n8n or Zapier to do the heavy lifting

Slack has fundamentally changed our team's collaboration practices because it decreased our internal email needs by almost 80 percent. The application functions as a digital headquarters because it offers more than basic chat features. The system creates a transparent organizational environment which lets people access information easily while maintaining remote team connections through its multiple channels and integration systems.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

The team communication system operates smoothly through its user-friendly interface and channel organization system. The 'Huddle' feature enables me to conduct fast audio synchronization because it eliminates the need for scheduled meetings. Our workflow management system achieves peak performance through its best-in-class integration with Google Drive and Jira and Trello and other tools.

#### Cons

The notification management system becomes unmanageable because of its default settings which create notification fatigue for users. The Pro and Business pricing model proves expensive for small teams while users experience difficulties in locating specific historical files and messages through the search function.

My overall experience with Slack was positive. It made communication feel organized and efficient, especially with the managers‑only group where important information was shared and our campaign page where we stayed connected as a team. I liked that our daily stats and updates were sent there too, so everything I needed was in one place. At the same time, there were a few limitations — like not being able to see when someone read my message and not having the option to block someone if needed. But overall, Slack helped keep our workflow smooth and made it easier for everyone to stay informed and aligned.

I really like that our daily stats and important updates are sent there too, so I never feel out of the loop. Everything is in one place, easy to find, and it keeps the whole team aligned.

#### Cons

What I liked least about Slack was that I couldn’t see when someone read my message. Sometimes I needed confirmation that information was received, and without read receipts, I had to follow up more often. I also didn’t like that you can’t block someone. If a conversation becomes uncomfortable or someone keeps messaging you, there’s no way to stop it directly in Slack.

Slack is a great way for teams to talk to each other, share files, and work together all in one place. Customer support teams are very helpful and friendly. It works well with other tools and is easy to use, which makes teams more productive overall. But too many notifications and some limits on the free plan can make the experience less enjoyable.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Slack is a great way for teams to talk to each other, especially because its organized chat channels keep conversations structured and easy to follow. It also makes it easy to share files and works well with other tools, which makes the whole workflow more efficient. The clean design makes it easy to use for working together every day.

#### Cons

Too many notifications and active channels can make Slack hard to use. The free version has limits on message history and file storage, which makes it less worth the money. Bugs and performance problems that happen from time to time can also make chat and meetings less smooth.

I solve customer management, document management, automation and employee management problems using Slack.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Slack helps us automatically capture incoming speaker requests, structure them clearly and assign them directly to the right internal contact person. Thanks to the workflows and automation, we save significant time in our daily agency and training operations and reduce errors because fewer manual steps are required. The system is highly recommended, especially for SMEs and all this at very affordable prices.

#### Cons

Basically, there's nothing to it. The combination of open interfaces, comprehensive functionality, and above all, strong communication capabilities plays a crucial role. We collaborate in teams.

I love Slack. It's the first thing I check in the morning when I am ready to start my work day, and it's the last thing I check before logging off for the day. It's super dependable and I love using it every day.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

I absolutely love Slack-- I don't know what I would do without it. I love that it has been to heavily adopted by my company-- we use it jsut as much as email if not slightly more. I love all of the innovation they have been doing with AI as well.

#### Cons

I really don't have much to say about Slack in regard to what I do not like. From time to time, I experience what seems to be a bug with their notifications in app-- it says I have many unread messages, but I am all caught up, this generally solves itself and is not an issue that is interfering with my use of he tool.
