CAKE POS Software


 

CAKE is a point of sale (POS) system designed exclusively to meet the needs of the restaurant industry. It offers features such as multiple payment acceptance, online ordering, gift cards and tableside ordering.

The reporting module allows owners and managers to drill down into sales reports to find sales by week, day or hour. Payroll reporting helps users calculate wages and overtime, and sales can even be compared to labor costs every hour. Peak hours tracking and customer tracking are also available on-demand in real time.

The system integrates with third-party systems such as PayPal, Xero, Orca, 7Shifts, Quickbooks and Avero. It is cloud-based, but an offline mode means users can accept payments even if their Internet connection happens to be down.

Pros

It is very easy to use. Super easy to change the floor plan and menu items on the fly. It's perfect for say, a coffee shop or local bakery.

Cons

So many. There isn't a split item button. The internet on it goes down constantly during service. You can't move seat numbers. No modifying after sent. Sometimes things change themselves, my logo switched one day on my receipts.

I like its look. Very clean. Easy to program and make on the fly changes to. You can even make changes using your cell phone which is cool.

Cons

Kinda slow when typing in certain commands on the keyboard. Would like it to be updated more frequently.

Pros

The way it speeds up orders which means more customers in a lot shorter period of time. While I'm cashing the customer out the kitchen already has their ticket.

Cons

Love the system. I honestly do not have anything negative about it. There are no cons. When calling for customer support, my call is answered right away. They are quick to explain any questions I have.

It is very user friendly. It flows well and is fast and effective. It keeps payment information backed up even when the internet is down.

Cons

Our experience with CAKE has been mixed. The software is constantly being fixed and updated which is great, but there are redundant and unnecessary features that should be removed. The support was horrible for the first year and a half, the second year and a half has been much better.

Great amount of flexibility, the best product we have seen or tried, we have looked at and had demos of others and this fit our operation the best.

Menu changes made easily, Very user friendly

Pros

System is very user friendly easy to train new employees, makes menu and price changes very easy, also gives owner many reports to track sales and growth as well as labor cost.

Cons

rewards program is great idea but very basic, either printer does not print red ink even though ribbon is black and red.

We really enjoy the ease of running reports and uploading items for the POS terminal from a remote area.

Cons

It makes it very difficult to split items for our guests when they both want to pay. We can split checks but not items.

Too many to list here but software that is easy to understand and follow and make corrections too. It runs our kitchen and food orders as well as serving as an employee time keeping system.

Pros

We purchased our Cake system two years ago after looking at many different systems for our diner after making the decision to update our entire process. The Cake system had everything that we wanted. Over the past two years we've had some issues with our system that very easily have been corrected and some that took a little time to fix. We are just too busy for me to spend countless hours trying to work out an issue and receive minimal or no satisfaction. Out of all the customer service companies we have ever done business with over the last 25 years, the best has been Cake. Hands down. No exception. The technicians are beyond wonderful. Every single technician has stayed with me until the issue at hand has been resolved and has worked with me to fully understand. We have just been updated to the newest software version of Cake and while doing my first online audit of employee timecards I found that I didn't understand how to make a certain correction. The guys at Cake walked me through it late on a Sunday evening and I was able to submit my completed, accurate payroll in time. And I LOVE the new remote access update. It's so easy and helps me keep payroll in line. The only thing I can say is thank you so much for realizing the importance of great customer service! Don't change a thing.

Cons

I wish the ipad minis that we use for mobile table service were a little more efficient and didn't drop the Cake network connection so easily. My staff has trouble always understanding how to reconnect or update as needed and I have to jump in and try to fix whatever they've done.

I am very happy with Cake support. I am able to get answers to my questions immediately. In addition the follow up calls and emails including information on where to go for help and which tutorials best fit my needs.

Cons

First not being able to make a payment on tab with leaving it open which is a problem for us due to many of our customers run tabs. Second, the kitchen is not receiving notes the bartenders write on orders. Including not limited to special requests.

When there is an issue, and it is rare, it is fixed quickly. Could use a merge check feature but I'm sure it's coming soon

Pros

Prior to CAKE, I just used Square. The two major issues were that it was more expensive for processing, and we also had issues with the connection. CAKE is much easier now. We've only had one issue in 18 months and that was on our end. It's definitely made things a lot easier for us, like looking back year over year particular days, so we can see holiday week sales and things like that. For payroll it's all in one place, which we like. It's definitely easy to make any changes to the menu, and it's easier on the staff which makes it faster for the customer. It's just really easy to use and I've recommended it to several other people

CAKE was our first POS for this location. As far as changing menu items or modifiers or printers it's super easy, hands down way easier than any other program I've used. It's also very easy from a user standpoint for staff members to ring things in and find items. Because it's not overly complicated and just very straightforward it was super easy to get the restaurant up and running when we started out. I use the sales reports and also the time and attendance reports for payroll. It's very convenient to have it as well as remote access. We're also able to see if people delete things prior to payment or after being sent to the kitchen to be made, so we were actually able to catch an employee stealing with that information. Overall I think it's great. If you're thinking about trying it I say go for it. The fees are reasonable, it's nice to have credit card processing straight through it, and when we batch out at the end of the month, we can log in and see easily what the fees were and what we received. I'm very happy with it and would definitely recommend it.

Cons

I honestly do not have anything negative to say. However, adding a stylus to the signature pad would be helpful for guests less savvy with tablets.

The software was easy to understand and to program. We were able to pin point any issues we had, such as over rings, payouts, wrong ring ins, etc.. We had saved enough money being able to fix those mistake but using Cake, that it basically paid for itself. We found using the Cake POS saved us time and money, that we bought a 2nd Cake POS, that we were able to transition it to use it in our hotel and golf course we own. I would recommend the Cake POS to anyone!!

Totally changed my business. Now we track what items are selling best, peak times for employee scheduling and I don't have to go back to my deli to make sure the register has been closed for the evening. I get an email as soon as that is done!

Keeping tracks of what we sell and don't sell and taking inventory. The time clock that it has for employees as we didn't have a system and this is way more accurate than the way we were using. Everything is being paid code that gets put in as there would be missed expenses when we were using a cash register. Saves on paper as they can sign on the screen. The close cash gets sent to my email so if I'm not there I can get them at home.

Pros

I love how easy it is to customize everything to the way you need it, it's very easy to train new employees. Makes taking orders faster and if we ever have issues the customer service is great and they fix any issues fast.

Cons

There are certain things I would like to be able to customize, I know recently they changed you can't change an order after it's been printed and with having call in orders people sometimes come back and change things and we can't go back and edit it.

Ease of use and so much easier trying new staff members.

Pros

We've had 2 POS systems before we tried CAKE. The very first one we had was already 5 years old so it was running really slow and just couldn't handle what we needed it to do. We upgraded that one to Clover and we had high hopes but it just really didn't work out for us. We had batching issues, the numbers weren't matching, and honestly it ended up making more work for us with bookkeeping. Since we switched, closing and reporting have been so much easier. Everything is a lot easier to keep track of like sales and payroll and it's so much nicer because you can see all that online. It's also easier to add new menu items or move things around and just easier to use in general, especially once we got everything up and running. It's a simple set up and I'd definitely recommend just giving it a try.

Cons

No Big cons really. One minor con, is that we wish we could accept partial payment on our regular customers running tabs. It would make it so much easier.
