CAKE POS Software


 

CAKE is a cloud-based point of sale (POS) solution for restaurants. Primary features include payment acceptance, guest and waitlist manager, online ordering, gift cards and tableside ordering.

It allows users to track real-time sales at different locations, wages, hours and overtime. The reporting module allows owners and managers to drill down into sales reports to find sales by week, day or hour. Payroll reporting helps users calculate wages and overtime and sales can even be compared to labor costs each hour.

Peak hours tracking and customer tracking are also available on-demand in real time. It offers an offline mode that allows users to manage restaurants and accept payments when internet connection is down. It offers integration with PayPal, Xero, Orca, 7Shifts, Quickbooks and Avero.

It supports Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems. It can also be accessed by smartphones and tables. Support is offered via email and over the phone.

Customer Service staff is friendly, but, they do not follow up, they like to debate, management is horrible - Again full of promises - No follow up -
Please look elsewhere for your POS needs.

Pros

Easy to add or remove items from the server screens. large screens, large buttons to use to enter items.

Cons

There are numerous: Time reporting is horrible, they put out new versions and take away others that we used. They promise they will fix things and they do not. Customer support is horrible as they rarely call you back or follow up. Do not ever give them your credit card number as they will use it without warning and take money out of your account. Touch screens rarely work correctly. Many options that should be available are not, such as easy check splitting or putting checks back together, they have a horrible guest loyalty. Servers cannot see just their tips, gift cards are very difficult to track, font size for the customer is hard to read, cash drawers are something you could buy from a toy store with better quality and the list goes on.

It is very easy to use. Super easy to change the floor plan and menu items on the fly. It's perfect for say, a coffee shop or local bakery.

Cons

So many. There isn't a split item button. The internet on it goes down constantly during service. You can't move seat numbers. No modifying after sent. Sometimes things change themselves, my logo switched one day on my receipts.

I like its look. Very clean. Easy to program and make on the fly changes to. You can even make changes using your cell phone which is cool.

Cons

Kinda slow when typing in certain commands on the keyboard. Would like it to be updated more frequently.

Pros

The way it speeds up orders which means more customers in a lot shorter period of time. While I'm cashing the customer out the kitchen already has their ticket.

Cons

Love the system. I honestly do not have anything negative about it. There are no cons. When calling for customer support, my call is answered right away. They are quick to explain any questions I have.

Super easy to use and set up. Customer service is awesome. The software is very intuitive ...like using your phone.

Cons

In my limited use there are no drawbacks. I'm only using the system for a golf course concession... it exceeds all of my needs and is capable of handling any expansion I may have in the next few years.

Can't run a restaurant without it, Reports provide everything I need for payroll and taxes and accounting.

Pros

Screens are very well designed so easy to read, and intuitive to use. I like that I can drag items around to get them in order.

Cons

I can't figure out how to connect it myself. Even the local professional didn't do it correctly, leading to an outage one day.

I like that the system is easy to use. The support for it is easy as well, as far as calling and getting a person right away. I like that I can get online and check the university to see if I can solve my own problem.

Cons

It's not easy to change open tabs over at shift change and this can cause a discrepancy at the end of the day when a tab was closed for an earlier employee.

We are able to offer a great online service to our customers as well as a simple 5 minute training process for new employees who pick it up instantly!

Pros

I love how user friendly this system Is! I also love the fact we can control our menus on our end for fast easy up-to-date POS and our online menu!

Cons

I truly haven't found anything I dislike about this software!! Customer support is fantastic and everything is clear cut with reports right at your fingertips!

I got an affordable, and effective solution for my POS system needs. We all have found the menus and programming to be easy

Pros

The price is the most attractive feature, as well as the ease of use. The flexible and affordable monthly payments are nice too.

Cons

Can't use terminal when someone is using the manager functions on other terminal. There are some short delays in running reports at times.

Easy to research everything I need to know on a daily basis.

Pros

Ease of set up and making changes. The support team has been there whenever I had a question that I was not able to figure out myself with the resources available online. The credit card offline mode feature is extremely helpful.

Cons

Have not found anything yet except the pricing. The monthly fees and daily use fees are hard to handle on a start up company.

I like that it is very user friendly, employees catch on quick, and I like the reports where you can see what are your best sellers etc. I think it looks nice at the counter. I like the time clock, keeps employees accountable.

Cons

The drawer inserts are junk, and there is no where to purchase a new one, the ones after market are a poor fit! Please bring in replacement inserts for us to purchase!

We switch to cake after using clover for some time. We love specifically how easy it is to make changes and set things up for Special items or for complex menu items .

Cons

I do wish the reports were a little easier to customize so that you could create reports that were exactly what she needed instead of having to scroll through define reports for information

Having a service that you put in the menu items well worth it. I had to do the last POS system myself and it took me about 6 weeks to enter all the items, modifiers etc. while trying to run a restaurant.

Pros

User Friendly meets are needs with exception of a few (see below) support is great always has been very informative and quick to answer any questions along with trouble shooting.

Cons

When you are in menu admin will not let you go back to home page have to reopen a new tab.
also hope you will put a meals button on payroll reports as we take meal cost out of employee payroll checks

It's far and away the most user-friendly software I've ever used. It's easy to operate both from the terminals and back end. Adding and removing items is very easy. Hiding/deleting and modifying items is no problem.

Cons

I wish reports could go further back. I'd like to be able to get an entire year worth of data at once.

Ease of training new staff and programming it.This software has saved me so many hours of work between programming it with menu and making changes,to training new people . Being able to make changes on any computer while open is a huge plus.

Pros

Ease of use for staff and for us to program.Always works never seems to go down. They do try to add options when requested if it's possible .love that you can process credit cards when internet is down as it saves info for later.Also can view info from phone or computer when away from my restaurant.

Cons

Reports currently only go back 100 days but they are working to change that.The Time clock dosnt export to quick books would help as we do our own payroll

Customer service is great and it's pretty simple to use. Everyone I have talked to has been very helpful with the things we needed help with. My only issue is not being able to change sent items. That is really a pain for us. It wasn't like that when I purchased the system. That was a negative update.

Cons

The fact once something has been sent you as an owner can't edit it. Drinks are the main problem with this. So say.... Servers put in a drink but forget to hit olives. To put olives in is .25. So instead of just going in and adding them you have to void the whole drink and enter it in all over with olives. It takes more time. The owner should be able to change sent items.

it is web based and doesn't fail like legacy systems. It is pretty darn reliable, only having 1 system failure and no hardware issues in the 3 years that we have used it.

Cons

We have experienced very few issues with either the software or the hardware. I can't think of alot I don't like

The customer service is pretty good. Sometimes they don't have answers for me on the spot and have to get back to me though.

Cons

The system is missing a few very basic functions that have been in use for years on point of sale system. CC authorizations for opening tabs at the bar & autobatching are two basic very valuable functions that I have been using for years. Hard to believe these were overlooked in development.

Global modifiers. That's literally the only thing I like about it. If it wasn't for that, we would have gotten rid of this system a long time ago.

Cons

This system is completely not customizable to your specific business. They're constantly updating the software with updates that make the system even worse for my business. There should be an option to not upgrade. Customer service is absolutely useless. I've called them probably 50 times since we've gotten this system. They never have an answer, they're always "working on it". Never a solution. There was a software problem on their end last Wednesday. I still have not had credit card sales deposited into my bank account from Wednesday and Thursday of last week. It's 5:30 on Monday. I have not had a deposit since Tuesday's sales. One entire week ago. They don't provide any solutions except "We're trying to figure out what the problem is. We're working on it.", but you literally never end up with an answer. You just have to wait and wait until you notice it's finally resolved or never get it resolved at all. You're at their mercy because you paid huge for the thing. What am I gonna do? It's disgusting and these people shouldn't be allowed to operate. They do not care. Even on a normal payment schedule, you won't get Thursday's transactions until Monday, Friday until Tuesday and Saturday until Wednesday. If there's a holiday, push that back a day.

Cons

Cost of course but nothing worth having is cheap. Up front cost was ok for system but think monthly fee could be little less.
