Awesome Integrations For a Midsize Company

PROS

Chowly was discovered by an office rep at an NRA convention and being a Mid Sized company the need to integrate 3rd party orders quickly became a need. Chowly had an extremely user friendly set up and they have continued to support us throughout our usage with them.

CONS

I don't have any complaints about the service we received from Chowly.

Has great features but the customer support is lacking and extreamly slow. Lost Countless orders

Not good... Slow company.. They do not take any pride in getting things done. and they don't own up to a mistake. If I had been responsible, I would have taken a "new" customer that is being worked on and put them aside to get a current customer back up and running when it was Chowly that messed up... Not too difficult to figure out a fix on this one... and you tell me you have software to do it automatically. Pick the phone up, call the guy that can do it, tell him that you got a problem that happens and the company needs to fix it.. I bet it can be fixed in under an hour.. (4 days later at this point minimum and who really knows how long) So from one business owner to another, know what you are getting into, and I am going to shop around to see what else is out there now.. And that sucks. But so does loosing countless of orders during a time when I am doing all I can to keep as many employees as I can and we are still loosing money... This is not fair in my option. Do the right thing... and I cant even get a "manager" or someone to call me back about this 3 days so far... day 4 is in the morning as they will not call me at 10:31pm tonight.. just saying..

It will enter all your to-go orders into your pos automatically.

CONS

Well, the customer service is horrible. I switched to them when covid started after spending a TON of time making all menus online to be the same, as they asked for it. I paid an employee and took my own time for about 2 weeks to get everything perfect, including pictures. So about a week ago I discover that ALL PICTURES for postmates are gone. I know they were there as I did it myself. So I call post-mates and they tell me that Chowly integrated and took over my menu. So I call to be told by a rep on the phone... you should have receive an email about the pictures. I then started to ask, what restaurant do you know that does not use pictures on their online menu. Then I was told that they messed something up and that they are super sorry. Someone will get ahold of me soon. The next day almost end of day I call in again, no call to me. This time I am told more info and that there is a new service that will update all my online to-go menus. I said OK lets do it.. then I am told my account rep has to call me... so I said lets do it.. Next day... no call.. I call in and I am told another excuse.. I am not really thrilled at this point. Now I want to be clear. I have a case number from the first day I relized what has happened... Gave the case number each time and still 3 days later... no call... So sad... They have one job...

Reason for choosing Chowly

They worked with my POS, but so do 5 other companies... I will try and do better next time but it is unforeseen that a company will not care about its current customers.

Eliminate multiple tablets/mistakes in restaurant

It took a while to get the SDK fully tested and up and running and we're still perfecting the data coming through, but overall our restaurants have loved the elimination of tablets, giving them more room in the kitchen and reducing time and errors.

PROS

The ability to directly insert orders into our online ordering system instead of having restaurant workers transferring orders coming in from tablets to the POS system. The manual entry not only takes time, but also introduced many human errors. Chowly eliminates these errors.

CONS

The API was not supportive of the version of Ruby on Rails our app runs on (3.2), so we had to build an SDK from scratch. This is complicated and required consistent maintenance.

Reasons for switching to Chowly

Chowly has many more features, is integrated with more vendors, and is a good value for the money.

The WORST Software that you could purchase for your Restaurant - Do NOT waste your money

We switched our POS over to Upserve in March (right before the Pandemic hit our location), and I was in contact with them at that point to map our POS System with our DoorDash and PostMates menus. I understood that the COVID-19 Pandemic is going on, but it took them 4 months to do a half-assed mapping of just DoorDash to our POS. By half-assed, I mean that the person who did the mapping, did not even bother to look at our menu. They just inserted items without modifiers, without sides, nothing. I told their "support" team that they should just copy our GrubHub menu because it has all of our modifiers and sides. The support team said that "it was too hard to do" basically meaning that they are incapable of googling our menu and copying it word-for-word. So instead, I spent 3+ hours making the changes myself to our DoorDash menu, and all these guys had to do was map it to our POS System. Sounds pretty simple, right? Wrong. They deleted all of the changes that I slaved away doing, and reverted our menu on DoorDash back to what it was. They have the worst support team on this planet; it's baffling to me how they operate and stay in business. I asked support to have a manager call me because 4 months of waiting is unacceptable, and instead a "manager" just sent me an email with a laundry list of excuses. It was honestly pitiful. Their software overall is good, and it makes the job much easier, but I have now had to wait over 6 months for it to be implemented!

PROS

-It is the only solution that integrates Upserve with 3rd Party Delivery Orders -Relatively easy compared to using a tablet and manually entering orders

CONS

-The WORST service on this planet -Terrible Management -Horrible Support Team

Poor Service! Doesn't Follow Through on Their Word!

I have realized no benefits from use of Chowly. Its just been frustration after frustration. This "service" can take up to ten minutes from the time the order hits the Grub Hub app to the time it prints in the kitchen. The service is so slow that we couldn't put the grubhub tablet away because it takes so long to communicate. We have to get the order off the tablet, and start prepping so we can meet the grubhub deadline. Stay far away from this substandard service. There are plenty of other providers that there is no reason for Chowly to survive. They even have articles out there that they are there to help business owners with no set up fees, and no risk trials! Well, they said they weren't going to charge a setup fee, and $360 later, they charged me for the 60 day no risk trial period and $200 in set up fees! Even though the sales person said the fees would be waived. Awful awful awful!

PROS

Nothing. There is absolutely no good in this product. Stay away. They are awful to work with. Don't follow through. Its all empty promises and nickel and diming.

CONS

Support: There is none. They take forever to answer if they decide to. You have to email multiple times before anyone gets around to responding. Platforms: I've been asking for over 2 months to have additional platforms added. I've emailed, called, opened support tickets. Provided log on information, and nothing. I still only have 1 platform. Cancellation: When you try to cancel, its convuluted. You have to speak with someone on the phone. Then fill-out a form which they admit most people don't complete in its entirety so they never get cancelled. Then, if you don't want them to bill you for another 45 days, you have to schedule a call to talk about the same stuff you've already told them. Twice. And during the call, its clear they could care less as to whether the save your business. You are completely made to feel expendable.

Reasons for switching to Chowly

I need a company that actually follows through on their word and a service that is reliable.

Poor execution and even worse customer service

Chowly's follow thru and customer service is a train wreck. They are good with promises, but terrible on execution. I wish I had started with another company instead. I'm waiting until we are ready to re-open our closed locations and then I'll switch all of them over to an alternate 3rd party integrator like Otter (can anyone give a review of this alternate integrator?)

PROS

Having orders go directly into the POS without our employees having to enter them is great (when it works.)

CONS

1. Have waited over ONE year for one of our 3rd party implementations and it STILL isn't feeding into the POS correctly. Every time I call, I just get lip service, but no one fixes it. 2. While "implementing" DoorDash (11 months after we made our initial request) at our restaurant, Chowly wiped out a many of our menu items causing a huge mess and food waste mistakes. 3. When we have changes to DoorDash or GrubHub, we can make them ourselves, but with UberEats, we have to fill out some online form with Chowly. It can take days to get implemented. Multiple times Chowly made the changes incorrectly.

Chowly made a lot of promises and seemed to know what it was doing, alas that was not the case.

What happened to Chowly?

I would never recommend Chowly to anyone, this company has gone from a 5-Star company to a 0-Star. Everything sucks about them! The service is horrible, extremely incompetent reps that give you the same run around, nobody ever helps with issues, they just say it's resolved and nothing ever comes out. Even after asking many times for someone to call me from mapping or development team, nobody ever does. STAY FAR AWAY!!!!

Company used to be great at integrating 3rd party orders and right now just a complete mess!

CONS

Customer service is horrible, takes forever to get a response, lacks leadership and integrity

Good product, over priced, very unprofessional staff from sales to customer care.

The product was very useful, sales teams are unprofessional, the get you to sign but they never hold to their promises. The product is over priced comparing to competitors.Customer care they do not care and they promise to call back but they never do.

That I did not have to worry about the 3rd party applications.

CONS

Special modifications different than our POS modifications, many changes were customized.

Terrible support

Support is terrible in terms of slow reaction and even the officers in charge promise to get back and never do. When calling it is not unusual to get three different versions of what needs to be done and ultimately no resolution.

The ability to integrate different delivery platforms

In principle it is a great program but the support is terrible at all levels

Amazing Customer Service

PROS

The product is easy to use and makes everyday less stressful. The customer service with our account manager, Aaron, sets it to another level. He is committed to making the product work for the business and quickly resolves any issues that arise.

CONS

The only time we have ran into issues are with menu changes when our account rep was not in place. Having the right people as an arm of your business makes the world of difference.

It doesn't work, they charge you for it, and there is no customer service to resolve

Not only does their product not work, there is no customer service to resolve problems, and there is no way to quit getting billed for a service they don't provide. I've called, emailed, filled out forms and more but the only contact they have is a monthly bill for something we can't use (even if we did still want to at this point). Their customer service puts you on hold for extremely long periods of time when they do finally pick up and then they aren't "empowered" to do anything other than transfer to someone else that can't seem to help either. Save yourself the stress and get a different solution. It's only months after trying to cancel this that I am writing a review because I waited too long for them to still not take action before taking this action.

PROS

The idea of it. There was nothing else with the software.

CONS

This is the most frustrating customer service experience I've had.

Phenomenal product

Wish 0 star existed for this business. They mess up your online menus and platforms which is already a hard thing to keep up as a food business owner. THEN they never actually allow you to cancel. [SENSITIVE CONTENT] are the people who is responsible for my loss of business for 3 days in a row. Of course they don't give a shit because it's not them losing money. Before the cancelation request, they always answer your calls etc but when it's after the cancelation request no one but literally no one answers you. Like WTF? I don't even know how such a company is still in business. This shouldn't be allowed at all.

Leader but failed

The worst vendor that we have agreement with. Please avoid that.

PROS

Nothing. The demo is so promising as the pricing. After we signed the agreement, every outsource that they used asked another agreement.

CONS

False agreement. Beware!!. After we signed the agreement, the implementation is nightmare. They installed their software to BOH server. After, their outsource vendor sent us another agreement with additional fee and percentage. It is separate agreement from Chowly. I cancelled them and the outsource forced us to pay the fee for software removal or they kind of put us as a hostage. Finally, we decided to hire our own vendor for software removal.

Terrible Support and Follow-Through

Terrible. Support was nice on the phone but never followed through. Everytime I called with the same problem, a new case was set up and then they didn't call back. The last call I made was disconnected - and I believe I was hung up on. They never did reach back out to me.

PROS

This would allow us to easily work with more delivery companies and eliminate tablets

CONS

It was not every set up fully to begin with. 75% of my orders would cancel out because they were never passed on to my POS system. We ended up with lost revenue and unhappy customers.

No Customer Service

Once the software is integrated it works amazing. Getting customer service is completely absurd. Waiting weeks or months to get a reply to an email is completely unacceptable.

Good luck getting a refund from Dickie's BBQ or Chowly.

Terrible. Do not use. You're better off using your own secure website, taking calls or texts. This software doesn't make your business look good based on my experience from ordering Dickie's BBQ.

Can't get refunded my $51.08 by anyone after making a second, replacement order immediately after the first.
