EVO is a pretty standard credit card processor with no standout features.

We needed a credit card processor for the POS component of our system and they were tied into Clean Cloud our CRM and POS system. We chose them because of the terminal pricing and the tie-in with our systems.

PROS

The customer service and onboarding process was excellent. The people were nice, the program for establishing a new account was generous with terminal discounts. The people were just absolutely the friendliest you could hope for.

CONS

The reports were difficult to navigate and that was after I finally got into the correct website for that information. I was given two different ways to login and one was not helpful at all and after a call the customer service folks got me where I needed to be for the info but the reports were not as robust as we needed.

Not for small businesses

My overall experience is poor. I will not be using EVO Payments again. I do not believe it is an appropriate software for busy small business owners.

PROS

EVO payments integrated with my invoicing software. There were sometimes glitches where I would have to independently review transactions on the EVO site. But most often, the integration worked well.

CONS

Where do I start. I began to explore options while our business was down due to COVID. I tried another software that had better rates, very transparent pricing and faster delivery to my bank account. During this time, my fees at EVO were still $139 per month whether I used the service or not. So, after examining EVO for my business, I decided to cancel. Canceling was also a very unnecessary process. I had to call and talk to two different people. Then, I had to wait while they read the contract that I signed. Another 10 minutes and the informed me that I agreed to 2 months notice and if I terminated early I would pay a $250 fee. I opted for the $250 especially planned to charge me $139 monthly anyway. Then I had to write a letter and restate all of this- which I did. I asked for a confirmation by email which of course I have yet to receive.

Deceptive and Sneaky Charges

Awful. They will be deceptive and make it nearly impossible to cancel. Be careful using Evo Payments. Look at your contract very closely and make sure to keep an eye on the added charges.

PROS

I was forced to use EVO because it was the only processor for our old POS.

CONS

They are not a trustworthy company to work with. They are terrible at responding and will make it difficult to cancel.

Stealing money on my bank account

I got so bad experience with Evo because they cheated me a lot by taken my money of the bank account because the location I closed was connected to the same bank account.I never got any warning or reminder about what they were charging me. WhennI asked they said never called to let us know if you closed the store. The rep asked if I want to close the account,but the next billing payment I saw a withdrawal more.money than ever paid when the store was opened. I called againbtheybsaid the closure was still in process. After two days I called again Sano rep.said will close then.but wosrr Cas scenario the next day when I checked my bank account they had taken $495 0n August 8th whereas on August 1st they taken $313. Before that since I closedbthe store in April they never stopped withdrawing money pretending that they didn't know I closed

Scanning cards for approved cards.Some card that have option of scanning ,payment can be without chipping or shipping them

Pricing ,communication with us.withdrawing money from bank account for extra hidden fees .When I closed the store I stared getting more changes than when I was using the machine.

Predatory and unnecessary account opened when I changed terminals.

Though they admitted that I should not have been forced to open a new account, they still required me to pay fees reaching $49 per month on top of their "regular" monthly costs and fees. Thought acknowledging that I should not have been charged, they refused to refund those fees. Ethics and transparency are no match for their greed and deceit.

PROS

I like the fact that I am no longer associated with EVO.

CONS

I believe their sales persons are unethical/dishonest. I believe they were in my case for sure. And their "customer support" department should be called the "Executive bonus" department.

Over charging

Beware of this company's practices of how they charge your account. They wouldn't allow a large deposit into my account and reversed the deposit but still charged service charges. They required 3 months of bank statements before they would put the money into my bank which has absolutely nothing to do with the deposit, if anything, they should check with the company putting money INTO anybody's account. Subsequently they charged nearly $4000 in processing fees for doing NOTHING. The company is doing criminal practices AGAINST it's customers. Avoid at all costs. Because of their creed they lost a client that they processed over a million dollars a year for. POS company!

Very bad customer service with massive rate hikes as they wish.

I talked to customer service but they don’t do anything beside telling me the notes were in your statements.

PROS

They promised us will not change the rate which we liked.

CONS

They held our deposits for 24 days because they claimed we didn’t close our report correctly. Then after two years they jacked up our rate by 30% claiming we didn’t do the PCI compliant questioners. But even after we did, they refused to reset the rates back stealing over $6000 of added fees over 3-4 months time.

stay away from evo payment systems and epos now

It has been a complete nightmare from the beginning! I should of known better when I had to talk to some rude guy that didn't think he was rude that was his justification. They get you in a 3 year contract not sure how but this is what they claim. Not one person along the way stated it was a 3 year contract. Then when the POS system that they partner with failed terribly. Fast forward to October of 2022 when I had to close my doors due to lack of staffing and EVO says I have to send in a letter to cancel and I can dispute the early termination fees as well. I do so for them to come back a day later and say to I have 10 days to return their terminal if I DON'T i will be charged six hundred some dollars. A day later they stold the money from me they literally took $1,190.00 out of my bank account. They never even acknowledged my dispute and charged me for equipment and early termination fees and did not wait the 10 days that I had to return it. TRUST ME THIS NOT NOT OVER!! I recommend staying far away from this company...

NOTHING! There is absolutely nothing good about anything you provide. You have hidden fees and you steal peoples money.

CONS

EVERYTHING! hidden fees, stealing peoples money, trick people into coming on board oh did I mention outrageous fees.

RUN. Never use this company.

I am so frustrated at this point. They charge over $80 a month to just tell me I'm not in compliant constantly and waste my time. Then if you try to leave them they take up to 60 days to process so yep, you have to pay again AND they charge an early termination fee. I am LIVID! RUN They just want your money and will hold your client payments. So done!

There isn't anything about this company I like.

CONS

Every few months I am contacting about not being in compliance. I have to take the time to provide documentation on various areas. If I don't, they hold my money. The questions they ask are completely confusing and not even relevant to the simple payment process I need.

Beware of EVO

I had one account opened in 2017 and had no issues while I was in business. Due to COVID my business went seasonal and then I had to close. I satisfied my 3 year agreement, yet they sent my business to collections for $720 because they said "early termination fee" which is not correct. Even having an email showing my business opened with them in 2017 they claim it opened in 2019! They are well known for doing this so beware!

The product was easy to use and while you are a customer the treat you fairly decent.

Worst dependability EVER

Great and easy WHEN IT WORKS. We have it attached to our POS register and works well as long as electric isn’t interrupted

CONS

Every single time electric goes out or machine is turned off it loses connectivity and it takes a minimum of 35 minutes with a tech who has to look up everything on how to correct the issue via phone. This is unacceptable! It should automatically come back on line.

Sales rep called multiple times to get me to sign up. Once they have you signed up then they hit you with all the fees. The fees never disclosed. Oh ya there in the fine print

PROS

Nothing was good a lot of promises that they never kept. The machine came in it was the wrong one. Had to be sent back. Called about machines promised took forever.

CONS

Poor customer service, a lot of hidden fees. Money takes a while to deposit into your account. Promises by the sales representative that never happened. The I canceled and I was hit with a big termination fee.

Caught in a detailed contract

I had in depth conversations with the sales rep about the charges and length of the contract. I rec'd the contract but it wasn't amended so she said I'll just send you a seperate email with confirmation of that change. This means nothing. The contract is 9 pages of legal blurb and verbal agreements or even an email from the sales rep does NOT alter the written contract. I ended paying much more than "promised". The customer service is horrible. Even trying to explain the charges on the ridiculously detailed report is horrific. I thought I had crossed all my t's and dotted my i's but got caught anyway. STAY AWAY...

PROS

I'm not sure anything, but I guess the unit itself.

CONS

The invoices were complicated. I was told and guaranteed one thing and price from the sales representative and was charged different. Customer service is non existent and a challenge.

Awful. The world has passed this company by. Customer service is terrible. Set up is cumbersome. Usability is antiquated. I honestly would not keep it if they offered it for free.

PROS

I did like anything about this company or product. From set up onward it appeared that they were not coordinated.

CONS

I had to pursue the company multiple time to get my online account set up for months after I began accepting payments. The system is not user friendly and does not segregate collection of sales tax to simplify monthly reporting.

Shady at best, criminal at worst

PROS

Nothing really...The terminal they gave us was incredibly fast, but they were the worst.

CONS

They delayed our business opening. They withheld money from us and did not tell us about it. They are very shady and unprofessional in their contracts (and now I'm stuck with a $400 fee for leaving them). I wouldn't trust them or recommend them to anyone.

High cancellation fees for going out of business

Watch out for hidden and steep cancellation fees. Company doesn’t care if you went out of business, still kicks ya when your down for everything they can take from a small business!

Beware of these thieves!

They have stolen nearly 1k from me and we have never used the service.

PROS

They offered a free service which we never ended up using. Then 3 years later they started billing us and said we agreed to pay for a service we never used. Many attempts to have them stop taking money from our account but no success they just keep stealing from us. Our last resort is to shut down bank accounts and start new ones.. very sad this company is out there robbing small businesses.

CONS

They steal from their clients after telling them they have a free account. These people have no spine.
