In May, 1994 we bought our Off-Sale. Somewhere around early 1995, we bought our first LiquorPOS software. Best move we ever made. When we first bought our Off-Sale it was CHAOS. Ordering was done by walking around the store looking at the shelves. Inventory was done by writing down each item on paper and taking a percentage of it to equal cost. Not very accurate. With the help of LiquorPOS program, we were able to increase sales and profits immensely. Instead of buying single bottles, we are able to buy more because the program told me my sales of each item at a click of a button. I also know at a glance what my inventory is, and if things are missing. I can keep running tabs on sales for the day, week, month, or year. I can compare all data to last year and earlier. I would be totally lost without the program and because of that, we purchase the yearly support agreement. The few times I have had problems Merchant Software staff have gotten me up and running in less than a hour. The ease of learning to operate this program is amazingly fast. New employees are shown how to ring up sales in a matter of minutes. Usually by their third shift they are on their own and by one week could be trusted with closing the store on their own. We liked the ease of using the program so much that we also bought one for our Convenience Store. It adapts very well for our needs even though it is a gas station. I also like the idea that Merchant Software staff are continually updating and adding new features to the program. We currently use LiquorPOS 5.02.552, their most current version.

Our store, Bartlet Wine & Spirits in Tennessee has used Merchants Software POS for liquor & wine retail for nearly 25 years. We were quite computer illiterate when we started using their software. We did everything with the traditional cash registers, pencil and paper before we decided to join the computer era. Kate and Bill Simeth (the founders) held our hand for sometime and still do. In those times when "customer service" was not even a concept they defined what it should be. They have lots of patience. It only took us amateurs less than a week to learn and reap the benefits of the program. They continually listen to us on things we want to accomplish with the POS package. They have several times over the years made modifications to the program based on our requests. We have saved thousands of dollars of paper work and have felt the competitive advantage with the information analysis the POS program provides us. We highly recommend Merchants Software for your retail software. You will be rewarded with the results.

If you are looking for customer service forget it

There are a LOT of glitches with Heartland's product. It uses a dated database program that is not fully Windows compliant. You have to keep an eye on everything you type in or it will get messed up. That leads to incorrect inventories. I had major problems when I introduced gift cards into the mix, even though the software (LPOS), the credit card processor AND the gift cards were all the same company. When I had to close my store temporarily due to demolition and construction of a new building it has been taking me MONTHS to get them to quit charging me for my software subscription. And there seems to be no one in "customer service" that can find the time to help me, let alone respond to emails. Calls constantly connect me to the person that is the biggest part of the problem. This company has SERIOUS problems. STAY AWAY!!!!!

PROS

It was the first POS program that I ever had. (I am about to switch to ANYTHING.) It is pretty simple, doesn't have a lot of features to confuse you. Easy to learn.

CONS

Customer Service is absolutely terrible. I have been trying to get them to stop my software subscription for FIVE MONTHS now and they just don't get it. The reseller that I go through has been trying too. I will suspend payment at the bank. I sent a detailed message to the one person who answered an email and that person told me I had not provided enough detail. I could go on and on but just know this, they are clueless when it comes to keeping a customer. Worthless.

Reason for choosing LiquorPOS

I bought the business with LPOS in place. It wasn't until recently that they have aggravated me to the point of never using their products again.

We are a Retail Package Store. We automated in1996, going from a basic old inventory system to Liquor POS. It is fairly simple to track inventory, receive, and purchase goods. We do a monthly physical inventory where we touch all inventory & when we leave I have an accurate account of where we stand.Through the years I've seen the number of techs increase for more and better service. Their GoTo Assist feature is one of the better changes I've seen. There are several features their programs have that competition doesn't. We recently had one of our main computers go down on Friday morning at opening. We have a 4 Station network & the weekend business is a large part of our week. Through the GoTo Assist feature we were able to get back up and running much quicker than I anticipated, and their tech Matt was excellent to work with; he stayed with the entire process until it was right. I'm confident Liquor POS works. It has saved me hours and hours of time, and is a large part of my business.

We are a large single-store liquor, wine, beer, and pop retail operation. (Family owned and operated for three generations.) We have been using LiquorPOS for almost 18 years! I couldn't be happier with the system, and haven't even considered looking elsewhere in the time we've used it. I think LiquorPOS is very intuitive with a short learning curve for new users. I've always been pleased with the support we receive, and since the system runs so smoothly, there's little need for support! The system helps me run our store as efficiently as possible and really helps me buy smarter. I couldn't manage our 3,000+ SKU wine department as profitably as I do without it!
