Just What I Need To Manage My Practice

I think that Massagebook really - and quite brilliantly - crosses the chasm that is often never, truly crossed by many companies out there: they connect the ever-ellusive Benefits of [a] Service with its Features. They are massage therapy practitioner-centric - we are their Clients (as well as their Customers) - delivering functional, beautiful, intuitive, and comprehensive services that are needed and desired most by massage therapy practitioners. I stay because I feel like they have and continue to develop the software Just For Me. I like that :D

PROS

Massagebook is a complete software solution for my sole-proprietorship - detailed reports and appropriate and sane-levels of engagement with my clients are both built into Massagebook, two very important aspects of running my business. Their mobile-accessibility - for both business-owner and its customers - is impeccable. The marketing and promotional components are integrated very well into the CMS function. Their payment portal only gets better and better - rates are fair, Referral Fees (from MB-domain-originated promotion, of which I have garnered several New customers) are nominal. Their business Goals of making things "easy" is apparent in their Customer Service: knowledgeable, persistent, easily- and readily-accessible, and in the new Features they roll out on a regular basis. The cost for their service is definitely worth paying - basically: it pays for itself in the time & money it saves me doing it "the old way". I feel like everyone at Massagebook cares about the success of my massage therapy practice - from the regular emails from rep and the Massagebook Team to their blogs about How To maximize the use and benefits of the software to make my practice management Better, I learn more and more not only How to use the software, but also Why. They've really nailed down Delivering Value, and I am a loyal customer because I know they're interaction with me as a customer helps me be a better massage therapist AND businessperson.

CONS

As with most software subscriptions out there, there are features that I could use more of in my practice - but Massagebook is ALWAYS working to make the current ones Better and develop new ones for the benefit of the majority of its users. Over the 5 years I've been with Massagebook, they always seem to come through, albeit at the cost of time. I will always wish for a Perfect Product, and the Massagebook Team has and will always rise to the challenge by hearing my suggestions and requests and moving toward a more-efficient and easy software to use.

Absolutely worth it

Feels like a mom and pop business with its friendly, know-it-all support team crossed with a multi-national corporate super power with state-of-the-art software tech. Let’s just hope they don’t turn into one! I think you’ll be pleased you chose massage book. Also, they are very good at communicating changes and being transparent.

PROS

Always improving the software. It feels like someone really really cares about the details and has extensive knowledge about the industry. Super intuitive. Excellent and organized note taking. And their customer support is hands down the best for any company I’ve dealt with.

CONS

Some software limitations early on when I started using them years ago, but they are on it, always! And today, there’s nothing to really complain about.

Massagebook Experience

PROS

Massagebook is a great intro program for users starting to be self-employed. It is a very simple layout and easy to understand how to use.

CONS

Massagebook has very limited options for different practioners (eg. osteopath, kinesiologist)The SOAP notes format are low quality and non-customizable, you could not make your own intake forms, support rarely assisted me with any issue when I had one. Would not recommend to anyone except a beginner in their industry.

Reasons for switching to MassageBook

Much better product and had solutions to all the issues I had with massagebook.

Long time user

Overall the experience has been good. It is easy to use and the tech support is good. Slow on improvements and upgrades to release fixes and new features due to the size of the company. However, the package of features offered for the price can't be beat and far out weighs the lag time on new releases for me. I have easily been able to run my practice with this software when I was doing mobile massage and now that I am fully in office. They offer an unbeatable product that creates my website, online booking, sells gift certificates online, tracks packages/memberships, client database, email and text reminders, online intake forms, sales reports, their online reviews engine has generated nearly 200 reviews for me effortlessly, etc. Can't imagine running my business without MB.

PROS

Software created specifically for MASSAGE THERAPISTS. Not a spa, gym, or appointment based business. It is an all in one platform. It provides tons features that you can't beat the price and simplicity of it all. I have shopped around and compared every option for a small massage therapy practice and this platform is by far the best deal for what you pay. It is pretty efficient and simplifies things for me. The live tech support is great. To get everything they offer I would have to use multiple platforms and pay more than double the price. The intake forms are missing in most of the competitors platforms which is a huge issue for me. I use MB for 90% of my business plus Quickbooks for accounting.

CONS

When there is a bug in the software, it takes a long time for them to fix it. They will try to fix it fast and provide work arounds but they aren't a huge company so it takes them a while to release updates to fix things. The caveat to this is I haven't ran into a bug that really effected my day to day work enough to make me switch software companies. I have been happy enough with the software to patiently wait for them to get the bug worked out. However, it can be frustrating when it takes a while for them to fix things. If they could speed up the releases and bug fixes that would make the software truly remarkable.

Reason for choosing MassageBook

As previously stated, the combination of features is unbeatable. No other software offers so many features for this price point especially with the AMTA discount for members. Each one I looked at was missing something that MassageBook offered or it was an add on for more money. Or they offered it in an inefficient manner. For example with Acuity you can have them fill out an intake form online at the time of scheduling but if they don't book online then you can't email them a link to fill out the form so that forces them to book online. With Massagebook, I can email them the form if they book by phone or by texting me. Other softwares nickel and dime you for these features. These people understand LMT's and what we need and they created a software just for us. There's no platform like it.

Massagebook and the Professional Massage Therapy Office

PROS

Back in my day - 1980s and 90's, all scheduling, note taking, banking was done on paper. Now with computer technology, Integrated scheduling, client notes, online presence and financials are seamlessly incorporated.

CONS

There is a bit of a learning curve. However, Customer Support is fantastic helping answer any questions.

Overall Good Booking System

PROS

It was easy to set up, and its easy to use. I really like how helpful customer service is.

CONS

Customers cant select multiple serives for one appointment. The Square card readers do not work with Massage Book from your laptop. I had to purchase two subscriptions because I have two office locations.

Didn't know what I was missing

Fantastic. When I have a problem (usually because I don't understand something, not because there's an actual flaw in their functionality), they are available immediately and always get me on my way. Pleasant, knowledgable and very helpful .

PROS

I was using another program which helped clients make appointments and sent out reminders. MassageBook does that and SO MUCH MORE. Most important is their SEO/marketing functionality. I have new clients coming in all the time who say they found me on Google. That never happened before.

CONS

I don't use MassageBook for my accounting, but if I did, I would take issue with the way they track running sales for the month. They seem to add all the categories together, whereas in reality there's a lot of overlap. It's not uncommon for this metric to read that I've made $6,000+ in a month. I've never made near that. It's misleading.

I don't recall why, but I did research carefully and chose MB based on what I saw.

Reasons for switching to MassageBook

Genbook cost so much more, and didn't have half the functionality. I mentioned the SEO and marketing, but also the HIPAA-compliant SOAP notes, reminder emails, gift cert sales and tracking, etc. I can't believe I waited so long to switch.

I've tried several. MassageBook is the best!

I have had a truly great experience with MassageBook and the customer service team is just the best! My schedule has never been consistent since I'm a full-time college student so the monthly subscription fits perfectly with my budget. I don't feel like I'm throwing away money during the weeks when I don't have clients due to finals.

PROS

I appreciate how easy it is to integrate with other software I use for my business, like my website, my Google calendar, and all the links to my social media business pages. When you're an Independent Contractor with no employees, you wear many hats. I do my own marketing, bookkeeping, accounting, tax preparation, and soon I'll be writing my own blog and teaching. MassageBook makes my life much easier than it would be without it.

CONS

There was one feature I had with another software that I thought was invaluable to any business and it was a policies page. Clients could not book an appointment unless they signed off on the no-show or refund policy. The feature dramatically decreased the potential of booking with unreliable or irresponsible clients. There was never any confusion regarding expectations on both sides. I would much rather have this as a separate feature from the Intake Form because it was an opportunity to educate the client on why the policies exist.

Reason for choosing MassageBook

I chose MassageBook over the alternative product because of my experiences with the customer service department and the quality of the product. The customer service team is so phenomenal I feel as though I have my own team rather than always working alone. MassageBook clearly understands the life of a massage therapist and it shows. Massage therapy is not a profession that anyone becomes rich from by exclusively providing treatments with one-to-one services. Honestly, if I were to just put it simply, I feel valued and respected by this company and for that, I will remain loyal to MassageBook.

Reasons for switching to MassageBook

It was too expensive. There are only so many massages a therapist can physically do in a week. Mindbody was more for a business with a staff rather than an Independent Contractor. I was paying for features that I could and would never use.

Best software for Massage Therapist

As a massage therapist, most of the day my phone is inaccessible, so I rely on online booking. It is very important for the software to be easy to use for clients. The new mobile app is a great improvement. I couldn't be happier.

PROS

I have run my business with this software since the beginning. Over the years they have upgraded and improved it. They take their time with the upgrades so there aren't many issues when implementing them. Customer service is exceptional. My clients love online booking and never complain about problems.

CONS

There is nothing I don't like about this software.

MassageBook has been a game changer

Outstanding customer service, a great value for the money, this is by for the easiest booking system I have ever used.

PROS

I love that I can use the massage book booking system on my own website. Customers love it because they can book their own appointments online and even make changes. I can block out times easily If necessary. I love the automated features, definitely saves me time and headaches.

CONS

Whenever I've had a bug come up massage book has been there to help and they continually tweak and improve their system. I have no complaints.

I had used massage book before at another location and I knew how well it worked and they gave much better personal support so when the opportunity to have another office arose I chose MassageBook.

Beyond expectations

Really great responsive customer support, generous trial period to get used to the systems, easy to move over from a different scheduling system, overall makes my business more professional and easier to run

Massage book exceeded my expectations of a massage specific software. My favorite features are the electronic intake forms and Soap charting, customizable email marketing and solid built-in accounting reports

CONS

There are some size restrictions on the type of image you can upload to marketing. I wasn't sure at first that I wanted a separate website than the one I already have built on wordpress. This seemed to be an automatic feature on massagebook. Its the landing page that people find you at when searching the directory. But now, I like having that extra website

Customer Management and Scheduling Software

Overall is been okay and better than others many ways but sometimes the customer service reps. get very defensive when you site a flaw or even ask a legit question about something they could do better.

PROS

The best parts of this software is it’s potential. This software could potentially check off all of the boxes a spa or wellness practice could want if only they were all working properly.

CONS

The most frustrating aspect of this software is that the developers have created features that are great and needed, but don’t allow them to work properly. It’s like the company knows what you need, has created the platform and allows you to see it but not be able to fully execute it. Talk to text voice recording for SOAP notes is one example. The option is there, the button and links are hot and active, but you are sorely disappointed to find out that after you press record, spend the time to give dictation, see that your text has been recorded only to press save and that feature doesn’t work!

MassageBook offered a good discount when we first signed up and is always adding valuable new features. The owner seem like a good guy who really tries to personalize your experience with his company. He definitely knows what is needed for his target market. Features and the promise of new features at a fair price point is why we chose Massagebook but we still keep our other software for an important feature they don’t have.

The best money can purchase for all the great features and qualiaty

Love them. they usually answer quickly and are always polite and make every attempt to resolve your issue(s). And they almost always do. When they don't it is only because the software at the time doesn't have the capacity to do what you are wanting. Basically what I mentioned above.

PROS

The fact that it doesn't almost anything anyone could want regardless of the size of the business and that it is relatively inexpensive so that new and smaller businesses can get the same great features as more expensive brands of scheduling/business software. It covers almost all the aspects of running the business not just scheduling.

CONS

/wekll my business model/set up is different from many in that I have several massage therapists that rent space with me, but we band together under one name and do many off-site functions together. We will often merge together for various specials. We slo share our rooms with other part-time therapists. So we use the schedular so people know when each of the rooms is in use and to offer specials together. However, it is problematic in that only one person's bank account can be set up. It would be nicer if all of us could have our own accounts in there and use the CC features. I have worked around that by giving them room rent credit or cash them out when one of their clients uses their credit card online. Another issue I keep running into is the ability to put specials on the scheduler. There is an option for that but not if you want to give a general $10 off any service or $20% off any service. If you want to do that you have to list every service you provide and for me that is a lot of services.

Excellent System, Excellent Customer Service, Couldn't Run My Business Without It.

So much: 1. Handles all my accounting with ease... 2. Allows my clients to book and pay online. 3. Sends clients reminder emails and texts. 4. Options to require prepayment. 5. MEMBERSHIPS that have been CRUCIAL to the success of my business. 6. System has a "make me look busy" option. SUPER useful. 7. SOAP notes are organized and easy to use. 8. Discounts with ABMP and others. 9. Easy to reach customer service and stellar help in a timely manner. 10. Easy to use system- with a caveat - no system is entirely intuitive all the time. I've had to teach myself how to use it perfectly over the last 6 years. 11. Gift card sales options. 12. Stores CC info on file for future use. 13. Confirms that clients understand a 24 hour cancellation policy during first booking. 14. Google calendar integration. 15. So much more...if you are a massage therapist...I'm telling you you want this system.

CONS

Ok...so I've listed things that are great about it. Now I'm going to be real and say that my experience isn't always perfect, and I HAVE gotten frustrated and confused by my system before. Sometimes I don't understand something or things aren't perfectly intuitive, and instead of relaxing, asking google, or contacting massagebook I get pretty amped up. That said, when I do relax, call customer support, and spend the small amount of time and mindshare it takes to figure out the system, I am always satisfied at the end. I did also have a problem with the CC integration and membership feature at one point. This led to about half an hour of work I had to do on my end to fix the problem. However, after talking it through with massagebook, I came to understand that the issue was the the payment system (Square) was primarily responsible for the problem and massagebook had been trying to get them to fix it to no avail. In the end, I fixed the problem, and massagebook did a great job helping me understand the problem which helped me regain myself after a stressful situation. So, in summary, I have found myself frustrated while using the system at times. But, 6 years later, I am an EXTREMELY SATISFIED massagebook user. I believe in massagebook, the people, and their availability to give me the support I need. I HIGHLY recommend this service, I think it's a steal and it's support means EVERYTHING to my small business.

I chose Massagebook because it was created for massage therapist by massage therapists. And, yes, that makes them much more equipped, I believe, to understand my needs as a one man show.

Massage Book is the Best!

Overall amazing service and capabilities.

PROS

How all the functions work. Very easy to use. Every time I've ever had to call customer service, I get amazing care! Literally some of the best I've ever experienced. Truly will always use MassageBook as long as I'm a licensed Massage Therapist.

CONS

Business settings needs improvement. It's occasionally difficult to find the different settings. I end up clicking around a few things to remember where everything is located. Partially it's because I don't have to use it that often. I really don't have to change things that much. So it's not something that I often do.

This is not for practitioners that take insurance!!!

It's OK. Written by amateurs. The CRM software space is well understood - these guys didn't do their homework, and aren't interested in making the right changes. Their roadmap is on features they think will help them sell more, not make the app more useful to the existing users. Tech Support is very good - patient, helpful and knowledgeable.

PROS

SOAP Notes are easy to re-use for the next session.

CONS

1) Complete blind spot for practices that take insurance. None of the features you want to make capturing and saving the information needed for insurance billing is there. Supposedly they understand the massage business, but for those top tier professionals that maximize their earning by taking Insurance, they don't. At all. - Nothing on the standard Intake Form captures Insurance info, and you can't add custom fields yourself the way you want to make to look good - No place to put their insurance info in the client record, other than in the general 'Notes' tab. There it gets jumbled in with your Notes about the clients needs etc. - No way to attach a file to a client record (Ex - a JPEG photo of their Insurance card) 2) User display of your schedule is hard to read. Hard to tell at a galnce how long a scheduled session is, esp. on a mobile device. Genbook is much easier to read.

Reasons for switching to MassageBook

SOAPs were easier. Genbook was having stability/uptime issues. Didn't realize the shortcomings.

Laurel, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. Clearly you're frustrated at our lack of features around insurance billing. As the founder and a veteran massage therapist who ran his own multi-therapist practice for many years, I have most certainly "done my homework". That's hitting below the belt... When evaluating what features we choose to prioritize and focus on developing, we have to take into account what will have the greatest positive impact across all MT's. We have a fully fleshed out insurance billing feature designed, but we have held off on developing it for the simple reason that only a very small percentage of practice owners accept insurance. We'll get it done, because I think it can be transformative for our profession and get a lot more therapists accepting insurance, but for now other priorities are the focus. You can look forward to a number of great improvements and new features coming this year. Stay tuned to my release notes emails...

Helpful & easy

I would say 8 out of 10 rating. The customer service agents know about the product well. They will have an answer quickly. I appreciate that bc so many times I am in between clients and they are friendly. Thank you for that. Customer Service is not so great these days.

PROS

I like that it is mobile and easy to use on the go. I am an inhouse and travel massage therapist. It's very important for me to have this readily available.

CONS

I am not a fan of only having stripe to use when checking out a client. I had to sign up for another payment because MB app won't allow payments from Square anymore. So, if I want to use Square, I bypass MB altogether bc I don't use the laptop version often.

Reason for choosing MassageBook

Nothing, I got this to prove someone wrong about the ease and what could be done with the features. I came to really enjoy massage book because it is so easy to use.

But - you can use your Square account for sure. :) If it's not working for you, you likely need to disconnect and reconnect your Square account in MassageBook. It works with the MassageBook Manager mobile app, the desktop site, online booking, etc. The whole nine yards :) Let us know what's up and we can get it working for you!
