About Fraps

Fraps is a universal Windows application that allows businesses and individuals to take screenshots and capture videos in real-time. Key features include screen capture history, user management, benchmarking and multiple image format support.

Teams using Fraps can perform custom benchmarks, measure frame rate between two points and save the statistics into the disk, which can be used for future review and reference. Users can gain visibility into the number of frames per second (FPS) in the corner of the screen. The platform automatically names and timestamps an image after it has been captured. Additionally, it offers various functionality for video files such as movie cursor hide, stereoscopic 3D and RGB capture.

General settings of Fraps include minimized start, always on top view, display status on LCD, minimize to system tray only and more. The system is compatible with games that use OpenGL and DirectX technology.

A basic free software that every gamer needs

Fraps helped me a lot in monitoring my computer's frames per second performance in many games. Also, I recorded some gameplay to share with my friends, and it really does the job.

Pros:

The software has a fairly intuitive interface. Also, their preferences are highly customizable

Cons:

Fraps is a pretty basic app. That is why there is not much that can be criticized for a program that just monitors the number of frames of your programs and records your screen. However, the interface is getting old, and it's a bit outdated.

Pros:

I love how simple Fraps is, just one click and your done. Quality of videos great, audio is great too.

Cons:

First of all Fraps,takes up too much space on your computer. There is nothing special options,has fewer features than its competitors.

Reasons for switching to Fraps

Because Bandicam have webcam options.

Records well but performs poorly

While I was preparing a video for Youtube, I was taking my screen recording with this program.

It had a strong community when I was using it. This made it easy to use.

Cons:

The size of the saved files is incredibly large. When you record while playing games, it makes the computer very tiring. For this reason, both the game and the video are badly affected.

I'd say that the thing that Fraps has going for it is that it's super easy to use, super easy to install and it's a relatively lightweight software.

Cons:

Now when it comes to the cons. It's not that it's bad, it's just not good in comparison to what the new and free software are doing. Not to mention the dreaded watermark. Anyone who had to screen capture something knows what I'm talking about. It's time Fraps revamped or updated into something more modern and with more features.

I liked how easy it is to get started. It is very effective at recording gaming content and doesn't require you to be tech savvy.

Cons:

It could lag in recording at times and the file size could be a big large.

Pretty simple tool for FPS counting

Overall, Fraps is a good light-weight app, easy to install and use. Hopefully, the developers can improve it over the time.

Pros:

The main advantage of Fraps is that it's very simple to deploy, configure and use. If your task is to only count FPS used software and games, it can be very useful.

Cons:

However, when it comes to other functionalities of Fraps, it is very mediocre. I definitely wouldn't recommend using it for screen recordings: first, it will consume a lot of memory from your precious hard drive capacity, second, the videos come somewhat laggy (at least based on my personal experience).
