Snagit, practical software to capture your screen
In general, it is a useful and practical software to use, a person without technical knowledge can learn to use it from the first time, it saves the videos in the cloud and integrates very well with Camtasia.
PROSI have been using snagit since it was called Jing, then Techsmith capture, in my experience I can say that it is easy and practical to use when recording a screen, its menu is not intrusive, and it can be used with hotkeys to quickly access its functions, it has many ways to capture the screen, you can select a window, a certain area, or the entire window.
CONSWhat I don't like is that in a relatively short time, it has changed its name and this tends to cause brand confusion. Another negative aspect is that with certain antiviruses its recording stops, this can be very frustrating, since you don't realize it and you have to start the screen recording again.
Reasons for switching to Snagit
snagit has less intrusive menus and is more practical to use

Loosing Ground to Microsoft
Historically...was reliable...not so more recently.
CONSDifficulty using PrintScr - Long time Snagit user who is migrating to Snipping Tool (Microsoft), after Snagit became too laggy in trying to capture images on my screen. Not sure about the relationship between the "blue" Snagit and the "orange" Snagit, as it seemed like when I'd try to use PrintScr, the orange Snagit was doing the work, but then trying to annotate, the blue Snagit was doing the work. ...that's when it worked, as most of the time, I'd capture an image and the program would freeze. HP Envy x360 Laptop / 13th gen i7 (1.70GHz) / Windows 11 Home, version 23H2, Os build 22631.3447. Hope my review is helpful. Thank you.

Best Screen Capturing and Recording Software There Is!!
Pros: I have been using Snagit for several years now and it is extremely beneficial to performing day to day operations within my organization. From training manuals and demos, the ability to markup, record, grab text, and use the other features drives professionalism and makes anyone able to do successful creations within Snagit.
CONSCons: There are very minimal cons when using Snag-it. Initially there were issues installing the audio driver on my Mac, but that has since been resolved. I think to sum it up, I wouldn't say there are cons with it. Nothing but a positive experience from my perspective.

Snagit is Easy and helps with Production
I absolutely LOVE using Snagit for all of my editing and design projects. It is simple to use, and it is very intuitive.
PROSI love using Snagit for Screen Capture and editing of images to suit our needs at school.
CONSI don't like that I can't always find where I have Snagit open. When I click to open it again, it states it is already running and I need to close it first. I would prefer for it to just jump to the open version. (Seriously! I have to use Task Manager to close it before I can open it when I don't know where it is.) I also wish there was an option to off-set the images I'm editing.
Reasons for switching to Snagit
Snagit is straightforward and easy to use.

Terrific software
Love the library feature! This is what sets the software apart from the competition. I use this daily and it's so easy to revisit old screenshots. This in combination with tagging them is a time saver. I have been using the software since more than 10 years now - it was always provided by the company. I recently switched jobs, they do not offer any screenshot software hence I purchased it myself. Worth every penny.
CONSIn my experience there is nothing that I do not like about the software. SOme might say it's a mere screenshot software - and you can do that with built in software in the OS. That is true, however you are severely limited if you need to take a lot of screenshots and annotate them.

Instructional Designer Must Have Tool
I was exposed to Snagit via my work environment but found myself quickly purchasing it for my personal use. I cannot stress enough that this tool is essential to my day-to-day life.

Excellent Program!
Either way, I think it's a solid program, and customer service is really on top of things. Another thing that hooked me over many other programs is that I could buy this without any subscriptions. Subscriptions do nothing more than keep the companies revenue flowing while continuing to empty your pockets. I highly recommend this program, and would easily choose it again over ANY other program in this price range!
PROSThe simplicity of this program is amazing! Everything is virtually at your fingertips, and for me, it works flawlessly.
CONSMy only complaint is, when I'm recording, I have to switch my audio output from my speakers to my headphones, otherwise, the volume during playback is so low that you have to turn the volume all the way up just to barely hear it. The company had reached out to me about it, but after hours of digging through my system with them, they came to the conclusion that it's because I have my speaker system hooked up to my computer through Optical instead of A/V or HDMI. I'm sorry, but that's a lame excuse!
Reason for choosing Snagit
Great reviews in comparison, as well as it not looking overly complicated, and the options were very abundant.

Easy to use
Easy to install and use. It's one of the only products I've found over 8 years that have allowed me to capture a scrolling screen. It has been extremely quick and easy to use in design and development work. This includes recording screens, and minor "to be" editing for development work and user analysis. It has been my go to software in work, and quite often in private requirements too for 8 years plus.
PROSThis software is intuitive to install and use. You can get up and running in no time! The capturing commands and wording is easy to follow and user friendly, even if you've never used something like this before. The scrolling window is still the prime usable feature in this software. Also, minor editing is clean, simple, and effective. Highlighting steps or features on screens is simple and efficient.
CONSThe industry has changed, there are a number of free captures products built in to windows etc. The scrolling window and recording has been a life-saver for me in my SAP manual and instructional work. However, I am considering looking around to see if I can tighten the belt and find alternatives. A small fee subscription model may be easier to sustain. Subscribe when I have jobs to pay for it, and take a pause when I don't need it.
Reason for choosing Snagit
It covered screen captures, editing and highlighting steps - exactly what I needed for creating technical manuals, and showcasing software development. I often use it to illustrate usability and design features too.

Snagit is a great tool for creating content in video and with screen captures. Simple and easy.
I saved money on subscription service for Image editing software, improved on process time with the video editing and screen capture software. We use Snagit to make clear explanations and transfer knowledge to employees and clients, about our trainings. Internally we stopped using other software tools, for those tasks. Saving us money and time, since those tools (Photoshop and OBS Studio) had a longer learning curve.
PROSThe most important aspect is the screen capture capabilities. Its usefulness and easy straight forward process. We choose this software a few years ago, since it gives us 3 tools in one, in a very positive way. The screen capture tool, with different parameters, the video creating option for quick videos and trainings, plus the hidden secret, is the GREAT Snagit Editor. Where you can edit video in a simple, not techy way, for most of us, we don't have the time nor knowledge to manage full video editing software, so this tools saves us money, because we don't had to hire a video editor, since most of them are simple direct video content. Second, we no longer buy a full suite of image editing, because the Snagit Editor gives us, 80% or more of the tools we need for our image editing needs. Again its simple to learn and master and is very capable. Why buy a software or worst buy a subscription to a video editing or image editing software if we can buy one time a great tool like Snagit. If you want more power or features, use Camtasia, but for small companies or simple, fast and professional looking videos, images and screen captures, I recommend Snagit, no one else.
CONSI am very happy with Snagit. When it opens too slow, I talked to the support team and helped me out, with my PC configuration. So, it's all good now.

More options, more features, better performance and parameters for screen capture

PROSThe rich features for highlighting or drawing attention to steps in the process that I’m documenting are what I depend on.

Snagit - An Extremely Handy Tool
I have been using Snagit for 6 years now, I was first introduced to the software when implementing a new system within our business as it's features were extremely helpful for bug reporting, communicating issues and drafting standard operating procedures/help cards.Since then I have continued to use Snagit on a daily basis in all other aspects of my role.
PROSSnagit is quick, easy to use and provides a wealth of features over the built in Windows snipping tool that I had previously been using.Snagit proved to be very easy to deploy within our business and has aided greatly in creating standard operating procedures, short video tutorials and informative screen captures. In particular the ability to screen capture while scrolling down a list/page has been extremely beneficial.
CONSAdditional video editing features and the option for a higher quality video capture would be appreciated in a future version.

Industry Standard Image Capture
I work regularly with development and data teams. I'm always grabbing a screenshot whether for a trouble ticket or a power point deck. I like Snagit as it makes markup easy and the options look good. There are some alluring options on the market however. Cloud App make gif recording super easy and ShareX is a really powerful open source option. Snagit still owns the corporate market but as prices seem to be trending up, we may see more competition in this space.
PROSGood after capture editing and markup - this is critical so you don't have to save and export into an editor. Most of the options are professional and useful. Generally well adopted to it's easy to explain what to do with other people. East to map to hot keys to capture full screen or just a section.
CONSSome issues with monitor resolution and not being able to capture the whole screen correctly. Not as robust of workflow after the capture as some other options on the market (or open source). Price is fairly high when sound alternatives exist.

Snagit - from underused to most used
Snagit is a must-have tool particularly if you are creating tutorials or demos, and want to simplify the way the receiver understands or digests the information. It's an alternative to Loom with additional bells and whistles that will make creating educational content easier.
PROSI was familiar with Snagit but I didn't purchase a license until a few months ago. It wasn't until I attended one of their free webinars that I finally learned how to use it and was able to get rid of a few subscriptions including Loom. Even though I had used Snagit before I was only familiar with a handful of features. What a waste! Snagit is a powerful tool and I quickly realized it was one of my most underused tools. One of my favorite features is the ability to use Screencast. Snagit Is great for screen captures and recording. Screencast is a video hosting site that doesn't have the same limitations Loom has.
CONSSnagit is not a video editor, you would need something like Camtasia. Although you can add markups and such to screen captures Snagit is limited to the editing you can do with video.

A Swiss Army Knife for Everyone Working with Screenshots
I am developing desktop software and I am using Snagit on a day to day basis. It has a very handy set of tools and offers a very well organized user experience.
PROSSnagit is an interesting mix of a pixel based tool (for screenshot manipulation) and a vector based tool (for highlighting with arrows and rectangles, adding text etc.). It can therefore be used for documentation as well as for manipulating existing screenshots. The latter is especially handy for drawing screens for a new software version based on existing screens. The OCR ability is very useful for capturing data directly from the screen from programs that don't offer export functions.
CONSCapturing scrolling windows does not always work correctly. Video capture and editing is quite limited. Snagits scroll sliders are somewhat hard to use.

The best screen capture program with annotation tools
Can't live without it - highly recommend you try it out. They do have a free trial to give you a chance to work with it for 30 days before you purchase.
PROSSnagIt is one of my most used programs, and one I would hate to be without. With an assigned hotkey or a dropdown that you can load at the top of your screen, you can capture the screen - still or video and save it to your system. You can then easily add annotations, like boxes, arrows, callouts, etc. The blur feature is great if you need to hide part of your capture. Enhance your Screen Capture Beyond the Basic
Though there are free options out there in this space that mostly get the job done, SnagIt is much easier to use, has better overall options and the integration of the editor is top notch. Application performance needs a little work, but I can forgive that from the utility the app provides.
PROSEase of use makes this my go-to screen cap software. It makes the precision sometimes needed for documentation very easy and the built in editing software is very user friendly and provides all the options anyone should need for the basics.
CONSThis application sometimes takes quite a while to load the first time I am using it every day. I am not sure if this is something on my machine or is specific to the version we are using in the enterprise, but I guess that just means more sips of coffee before I can take that cap!
