- 4 stars: 82 reviews (16%)
- 3 stars: 15 reviews (3%)
- 2 stars: 6 reviews (1%)

### Most mentioned pros

- I can turn a question, bug, or idea into a visual explanation in just a few minutes, which helps move client work forward faster and makes my communication more effective overall. While I do have some concerns about pricing and occasional performance issues, the product still delivers enough value that I continue to use it every day.
- I use it daily in my consulting work for screenshots, annotated images, documentation, training materials, client communication, and quick screen recordings.
- What I like best about Snagit is how quickly I can capture, edit, and share visual information without disrupting my workflow.

### Most mentioned cons

- Text alone is often not enough, and basic screenshot tools do not offer the editing and annotation capabilities I need.
- For someone who only needs occasional screenshots or basic annotations, it may be harder to justify than built-in tools or lower-cost alternatives.
- I find myself needing to restart my computer at times when it will not open or it glitches.

I love Snagit as a documentation, note-taking, and collaboration tool. It enables me to effectively communicate with coworkers with clear, visible screenshots and videos, allows me to be better about documenting processes, and allows for me to retain a backup of notes and screenshots for professional use.

I enjoy the ability to seamlessly use keybinds to quickly capture images. The built in tools allow me to mark up and create excellent, professional documentation.

I dislike that I am unable to add text to videos natively.

#### Reasons for switching to Snagit

I used a trial of Snagit and was pleased with the price and plethora of features.

I found SnagIt while working at another firm about 10 years ago and I've made sure that it was available for me to use in my successive positions. I also purchased my own version for home use. It's the only program for screen capture IMO. Nothing else compares.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

Ease of use, no need to read a book first -- load, launch and go to work.

#### Cons

Would like a default setting for use so if I switch in order to record video, my next launch will start out back to screen recording.

#### Reasons for switching to Snagit

There's no comparison when it comes to functionality and ease of use.

It works - mostly. The annotating is OK.

#### Cons

Large images and the "scroll" captures are buggy at best and take forever and then fail. Also cannot easily change an image type, for example when trying to capture a "WEBP image"

#### Reasons for switching to Snagit

annotating and large image capture, in theory

I am a regular user of Snagit, and find it a very useful tool for capturing content for development of process documents, technical writing and elearning development. It is great how it links to Camtasia which really helps if you need a screen capture taken and added into video projects. I haven't utilised all the tools available, however what I have wanted to achieve so far with captures I have been able to do no problem.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 3/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

Fantastic capturing tool for screen shots or even video clips. Has plenty of tools create meaningful and professional content. One key tool is ability to capture scrolling windows as an image. Able to create process documents directly within Snagit with their templates using captured images. Fairly easy to use software great functionality to suit so many needs. Great how it links to other TechSmith tools such as Camtasia. So you can capture a image with Snagit then send it to a open Camtasia project and drop right on your timeline.

#### Cons

Some little annoyances which could be better to further enhance UX. So if you add a something on your image, say a shape, you add and position the shape. But it doesn't remain selected and you need to re-select the shape to further edit i.e. colour. Be great if you could integrate into MS Teams on slightly older version of Snagit.

Snagit helps me tremendously when I am handling financial matters and other sensitive things; I may not want to share the whole screen with someone but only the part that is relevant to them or their issue.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5

#### Pros

I can "snag" information or images from a webpage or other documents and send to someone else without sending the irrelevant parts of the webpage or document.

#### Cons

I wish that it had the ability to scroll down in order to include things further down that are not shown on the screen rather than being limited to just the current screen view.

#### Pros

Ease of use. Quick & readily available with the setting that allows for the widget.

I like the feature of being able to take a visual and copy and paste it elsewhere. The recording feature is generally pretty user friendly, but I do not like that you cannot merge two separate videos.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 3/5

#### Pros

I am a supervisor and need to teach and educate my staff on a daily basis. When I am explaining something it makes it so easy to take a quick snag of something to show them the visual of what I am talking about. Additionally I have had to make training videos and this platform makes that easy to do.

#### Cons

I do not like that you cannot merge two videos together. You need to go through the entire recording. Although you can pause it, it would be ideal to be able to merge several videos.

#### Pros

Snagit is super easy to use, especially to edit captures such as using the blur tool, selecting to cut/paste elements of the screenshot. This makes them more professional looking for use on websites etc. I also like the ability to capture screen recordings with voiceover.

#### Cons

I wish it were easy to edit video captures - at the moment it looks like you have to download their sister program, Camtasia. I'd just like to be able to use a blur tool in videos that I create (just short GIFs) to hide sensitive information but it doesn't seem like this is possible.

I have subscribbed out of my own pocket for years now, I was recommended it by a colleague at my old job and yeah its been great ever since. The updates are also consistent and usually have good changes.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

I like that it is easy to install and use, the help videos are also really useful. I find it works much more reliably than other options and has more features even if I don't always make use of them.

#### Cons

Some of the features don't work that great ie. the scroll feature sometimes does weird stuff. I also wish I could reduce the side of the dock. I like a minimalist desktop experience and having this massive thing pop out is jarring it is just personal preference.

#### Reasons for switching to Snagit

FYI it was none of the ones on that list I can't recall it now. I switched because I left that job and the cost made no sense when thinking about the functions it offered.

### Snagit - Great Tool With A Small Learning Curve

Overall, I like Snagit and its functionality. It took some getting used to via trial and error, but overall, it has been handy.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

Intuitive, simple, and very easy to use. Snagit has a very secure and easy-to-use interface that allows me to capture screen images easily, and its library of call-out boxes makes it easy to highlight items.

#### Cons

While the tool is simple to use, it has limitations in what it can do, and not everything is intuitive. For example, it can capture an entire website via a scrolling screen grab, but that takes a bit of thinking to accomplish, and the Reference/How To material does not describe all of its capabilities.

Overall I like it but the filename issue and the save folder issue is just sloppy programming and is affecting my overall satisfaction with the product.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Functionality: 3/5

#### Pros

Snagit is easy to use and can create quick mock-ups or design and conceptual layouts - or do make notes for our developers / support teams on issues related to our online site or technology. We use it every day and it's a critical part of our workflow.

#### Cons

While there have been numerous enhancements, I keep hoping that Techsmith will fix two blatant UI issues / bug but after a long time of waiting (more than a year) it hasn't and it drives me crazy. The first is that Snagit does NOT remember where I have JUST opened the file to edit. So I often blindly save the file back only to discover that it has been saved into a completely different folder. This should be simple. If I have JUST opened an image from folder "X", then surely I want the new image I have just worked on also saved into folder "X"?? The second issue is that if you are saving the image in Snagit (as a JPEG as an example) , it will ALWAYS add an extra extension int he name. So, if you select the file to be ".jpg" (even if you delete everything in the filename field) it will make the file type to be ".jpg.jpg" so you always have to correct it!!

### Still the best screen capture tool on the market

After using Snagit in work environments I found I relied on it so heavily that I purchased a license for my own home use, and have been using it daily for years with very few complaints. Even with the many competing tools now available, and the built-in screen capture features of macOS, I have found that they don't quite do everything that I need, and I just can't live without SnagIt.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

It works. It does everything I need, and some things that no other competitor tools seem to be able to do, such as: captures the cursor, freezes the screen while you're selecting the region, captures the current state of the screen including hover and focus states, captures scrolling regions and full webpages. You can also grab the text from an image - which was a very innovative feature when first released. The annotation tools and options are easy to use. And it also works great for video screen recordings and animated gifs.

#### Cons

It's a bit costly - but it's also not a monthly subscription service, so it's not unreasonable. I don't love that the images use a custom file type and extension (".snagx") - but it's easy to export or simply copy and paste into other files or programs. It's not easy to find images in a large library because the text is not recognized.

I have used Snag-It for almost as long as it's been in existence. I got introduced to it by a friend and have never looked back.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

I couldn't tell you how many times I have turned to SnagIt to capture an image on the screen and save it as a .jpg or .pdf file that I'll need later on. I try to plan ahead so if I see something that I know I will need in the future, SnagIt is ready and waiting anytime I need it. The widget at the top of the screen (actually you can put it anywhere you like) is totally indispensable to me. It's one of those programs that I keep on a disk I call 'Essential Programs' so if my computer ever gets to the point that I have to start over, the 'Essential Programs' are restored along with a fresh copy of Windows.

#### Cons

I can't think of anything bad to say about SnagIt. I don't know what I'd do without it.

It works flawlessly in the background on both Windows and Mac. It has a ton of features, but is still relatively easy to use. It includes multiple ways of taking screenshots including some advance ways like taking screenshots with scroll. The process of editing the screen shots after also works great. Easy to draw arrows etc and it has some cool features to extract text and edit forms.

#### Cons

It's a great tool for quick work with working on a remote marketing team to share ideas and change requests for content and marketing files.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Snagit has a multitude of useful tools -- we haven't even used them all. But it provides useful visual tools for marking up content and making quick decisions in a collaborative manner. For team members who are more visual than verbal, this is useful to show exactly what revisions or adjustments are needed in copy or visual elements. We've used it for everything from visual marketing needs to scheduling on calendars to highlight priorities.

#### Cons

I've had some trouble merging the old version to the new, and the old version still proves useful, although the new version has some aspects the older one does not. So it's a bit cumbersome at present with having both on my toolbar (but may be a user issue and I just need to spend time placing as preferred).

Generally very good except for support.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 2/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

It is excellent at capturing all or part of a screen and then extracting the text from that image as well as a great screen capture tool.Being able to capture panorama and vertical scrolls on Chrome anyway, is great. The plus is it's a good video screen capture tool for doing explanier videos, etc.

#### Cons

Tech support is substandard for anything but simple fixes. You can get the easy stuff resolved easily. But if you have a real tech issue, prepare to be ignored.Several of us, (Check their user Help Blog) have had ongoing problems with not having the "Do not capture Cursor" on video to work. It's been a problem for at least 2 years and it is still not fixed. The button is there and works for some but not others. You send in a trouble ticket and it's never answered, you send in debug files they want, crickets. I don't care if they can't fix the problem, just say so. Not communicating on a ticket that is open is inexcusable.

### Snagit is worth snagging.

Overall, Snagit is one of the best software purchases I have made. It has a job, and it does it very well. Video editing setbacks aside, you'd be hard-pressed to find a similar product that has all the features and options of Snagit. Well worth the purchase and if you intend to keep using it, I highly recommend the "Maintenance Plan" to get future versions and features for a small fee instead of paying full price each time.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Snagit excels in screen capture, image annotation and editing, and sharing your content with many platforms and applications. You can quickly and easily get your image meaning and point across to your audience with Snagit and its abundance of features and options.

#### Cons

Snagit's ability to spruce up videos is a little on the "needs work" side of the fence. While Techsmith's product, Camtasia, is meant for this purpose, I would like to have seen at least some basic video editing features beyond cutting and cropping videos. Maybe add a few video effects to widen the audience for Snagit, while keeping Camtasia as the "premium" product for video editing.

#### Reasons for switching to Snagit

Snagit provide more and better image editing and sharing functionality that Microsoft Windows built-in tool.

I was lookng for a replacement of Skitch. I'm not entirely satisfied, specially with the impossibility to import PDF to Snagit and edit it before re-export (Skitch does it); I also am frustated by the file management: no sub-albums to organize my stuff, tag management is bad...

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 3/5

#### Pros

The multi-functions it proposes: video capture, screenshots, etc..

#### Cons

I would like sub-albums to group shots instead of relying on ust tags. title and tag editing are a pain and can't be done on every instance: full size and thumbnail. Want some albums to sub-organize my stuff: tags is not an easy way to do it bevause in the timelinae, they are not always adjacent. Seems loke an obvisous function for heavy users. Can not manage PDF like Skitch: can't drag a PDF to Snzgot and edit it before re-export.

I have used Snag-It for many years before I retired. In work, I used it to document the software that I was proposing to write OR to document problems that occur in the software after it was written. It was a good tool to use to document a procedure to follow because I could capture a picture of relevant screens and comment on what happened or was happening. I also used it to prepare user manuals for the software that I wrote. Now in retirement, I use it primarily for travel itineraries.

#### Ratings breakdown

#### Pros

Ability to capture screens of information from the Internet. Although I use it for my travel itineraries, it has also come in handy when I want to document a procedure to follow for some task such as telling someone how to activate/deactivate my house alarm system (I can illustrate with pictures and words)

#### Cons

I do not have any negative comments about it. I like it.

I loved Snagit, it is basically like Paint on Windows where when you see, you can know how to use it right away due to it simple design and straightforward function and icon. For tech support like me, Snagit is like a god-blessed tool. As you know, sometimes, end-users that are lacking technical skills doesn't understand the verbal instructions at all. Therefore, with Snagit, it allow me to provide visual guidance for them to see and follow. Most of the time, after sending Snagit edited screenshot (giving guidance through number stamps, arrows, highligh, blurring contents that we don't want them to see), the feedback is always positive.

#### Cons

What I don't like most about Snagit would be its unmodern interface. Well, I don't think I can really complain about this as keeping the interface to be unmodern somewhat contributes to it being easy to use. If you see the latest versino of Snagit, the interface is so outdated. It's like it's from the Windows XP/7 era in which we are already moving into Windows 11. Other thana this, I don't think I have anything else to complain regarding this amazing tool.

#### Pros

The UI is pretty great. It is easy to use, and you know where things are when looking at it. The editing features in the editor are great for making quick edits on the fly. There are plenty of templates to use for a wide array of use cases.

#### Cons

Sometimes the video editor can be slow and lagging, and I've had the entire application (capture tool and editor) crash when creating videos.
