Clearswift Email Security Gateway

The interface is pretty but not exactly intuitive, the admin interface and the user interface run on two separate java threads, using separate ports, just not efficient. Extending functionality isn't easy and everything kind of feels cobbled together, but not in a great way. Individually, everything is "ok".. but at the price and for the reputation, you expect more from the whole.

Pros:

The software installs as an ISO and Updates succeed most of the time. The user interface is modern looking and looks nice. The built-in templates are rich and provide examples to build your own.

Cons:

The catch rates were not good enough, which was bad but worse still were the false positive rates. I had to maintain these daily. That, combined with no real-time quarantine access for users unless you join this internet-facing machine to an AD domain, make daily interaction with this software a requirement -- this is supposed to be a time saving product, and it definitely did not live up to that.

Thanks for the review. We've just released a new version (5.0) of the product where we've bolstered the Anti-spam capabilities, adding a 2nd engine to refine detection. End users can also access quarantined emails at any time via the web portal and set up their own Trusted Senders to reduce false positives. End users can also receive a digest of messages that are held, which includes a link to either release or delete them. These digests can be scheduled on an hourly basis or you could send a notification for every held spam message that has been detected.
