Symantec Endpoint Protection for Small Business Software

Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition is a cybersecurity defense suite specifically designed for needs of the small business.

Core features include antivirus, antispyware and a firewall to protect laptops, desktops and file servers from online threats and hackers. The solution also analyzes downloaded files and applications for potential threats, which prevent employees from triggering attacks.

Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition has a central control panel and can be managed on-premise or through the cloud via an online portal. A single administrator has the capability to set policies for devices and users and can receive security alerts via SMS or email. Updates are delivered automatically via the Web to employees’ computers which helps in keeping the security of systems up-to-date.

Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition charges users depending on the number of licenses and that includes support via phone and email.

Great protection

Pros

Symantec endpoint protection is an easy to use and install program with effective tools to protect you

Cons

Symantec endpoint protection can be fine consuming in its updates - a small price to pay for effective protection.

Our preferred virus protection solution

Pros

Symantec integrates with our Outlook email clients and has caught several potential malware threats that have tried to come in via email attachments. Installing Symantec for Small Business on licensed computers is easy to take care of and their virus definitions update regularly.

Cons

When I trigger remote scans, I often suggest to our employees that they leave their computers on and in the office overnight as it takes a long time to complete a full system scan.

Symantec Endpoint Protection

Great!! I have used different protections over the years and found some to be cumbersome to your firewall or to some programs you use once in a while but with Symantec, I do not have any trouble with my existing or new software on my PC. It doesn't slow me down a bit. Great job on this version . . works great!

Pros

The best part about this software . . it's like having a big brother watching over you all the time. It runs in the background. And now a days, having something automatic is great. Trying to remember all of your typical day to day tasks is hard enough. Great job on this design. Let's you know right away if you are not protected or if an "intruder" is attempting to do something bad. Easy to install and easy to use.

Cons

Cons . . hmm . . well . . I guess knowledge is the downfall. The description of the 'medium' threats is pretty basic. Not sure if I should be concerned or not but overall, if this thing is on . . I am not worried! :) So Cons is a tough to write about.

Not the sharpest tool in the tool box, but it works

We work with various clients who have this product deployed. We usually work with the client to remove the product and deploy their competitor. We usually do not have issue with removal (Very important).

Pros

Ease of use.
Ease of deployment.
Ease of removal.

Cons

Product is very heavy and resource intensive.
Doesn't protect as well as other competitor products.

Amazing customer support

Pros

- Plug-ins for all of my web browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge)
- Works well with Windows Defender to provide a comprehensive protection solution
- Customer service is by and large the best I've encountered for protection software. Their support website has answers to every question I've had.

Cons

- It slows down my Outlook program on start-up. Outlook has noticed the big drop in performance and regularly asks me to disable it to improve performance. It seems counter-intuitive to disable a protection program to speed up Outlook, thereby opening my computer up to risks that could slow down/disable my system.

Pretty good

Pros

Does better then most other protection programs. Gets rid of unwanted cookies, viruses etc

Cons

As stated it's actually been a lot nicer then past programs I had used but it still has its problems. It doesn't fully protect the computer in my opinion

Good but not great endpoint protection

Pros

It is easy to setup, enterprise deployment an equal breeze and functions as a set it and forget it for every component and feature in SEP. Very much like the consumer-grade security suite. Updates happen in the background with no disruption and offers zero-day protection as well.

Cons

File scanning is extremely heavy-handed when it comes to file transfer, which is faster with Bitdefender/Ivanti. Sometimes SEP got interfered with Windows updates, in particular Windows 10 despite the fact it's compatible with Windows 10.

Slow. That's the best description I can think of.

Pros

- Virus definition library updates regularly with new protection definitions.
- Integration with Outlook

Cons

- System is unusable when scanning.
- Scanning has frozen my computer several times, forcing me to start from the beginning.

Good protection and easy to use

Pros

provides adequate updates to keep virus definitions up to date
the user interface is user-friendly and easy to use

Cons

The one thing I don't like is it can be a resource hog and slow down your systems during a scan. I tried it on a high power machine with plenty of RAM and good processor but got the same results

Protection against the masses

Pros

Automatic updates run in the background. Able to schedule regular scanning on your PC. Haven't had any issues yet regarding malware, virus, etc. Automatic blockage of popups on suspected websites.

Cons

Sometimes a website may not be suspicious but is blocked anyway, but, this can be override in the settings menu, just make sure that you know the website can be trusted.

Symantec is here to stay and a game changer

We've been using Symantec since it was still called Symantec Anti-Virus and it has come a long way since. However, like any sound strategy, one should never rely solely on one product for protection. It should always be supplemented with an end-point gateway protection AND education of the weakest link: The human firewall.

Pros

The product is much lighter on resources. It is accurate and very rarely has false-positives. It is easy to configure and automatically updates itself in random intervals.

Cons

Symantec End Point Protection can border on the paranoid. Every time an aspect is updated (whether an executable or otherwise), Symantec always prompts you if "you want to access the network?" If you answer NO accidentally, then critical systems could be affected.in random intervals further freeing up resources.

Symantec Endpoint Protection review

Overall, very pleased with this software. Have been using it for 10+ years and protects my computer well.

Pros

This is, by far, my favorite computer security program. Installing is a breeze and updating is just as easy. The interface is user-friendly and the color scheme is easy on the eyes. I think it protects my computer well, as I've been using this software for over 10 years and my computer is still kicking.

Cons

Updates sometimes fail to install or download correctly, but you just have to try it again.

Symantec Endpoint software is a basic anti-virus protection software

Pros

The Symantec Endpoint software is great at detecting viruses, trojans, etc. It is also good at putting dangerous files in quarantine.

Cons

The price of the program is a bit much. The messages that pop-up on the right side of the screen can become annoying too.

Good pricing options for smaller businesses

Pros

Symantec has a good pricing structure for SMB, and is easy to deploy across all of our computers. It is easy to use and updates regularly.

Cons

When scanning the system, it slows down the computer to the point it becomes almost unusable. I often recommend that our team members run the scan as they leave for the day.

Better than McAfee, but boy it slowed our computers down

Pros

With Symantec Endpoint protection, we felt that our systems were better protected against threats than several other protection programs on the market. We purchased several 1-year licenses before deploying it on our entire network, and the virus definitions were updated with new protections regularly.

Cons

When it was scanning our system, the computers were unusable. Even when scanning a large incoming file downloaded from a cloud storage website, I would get up and get a coffee as I couldn't do anything on my computer.
