Good endpoint protection software for company end-users

Pros

Our IT team installed Symantec on our computers last year and it is a very discreet protection program. Other programs I used have pop-ups regularly asking me to scan, update, back-up or perform one of several other actions and are very annoying. Symantec handles a lot of that in the background requiring minimal user input.

Cons

The Outlook add-on/plugin of Symantec slows down the start-up of Outlook by several seconds. Once Outlook fully opens, it's fine, but it does slow down the initial process first thing in the morning.

Symantec worries about my computer's security so I don't have to.

Pros

Symantec routinely does quick and full virus scans in the background, so even if I go months without thinking about my computer's security, I don't have to worry, because Symantec defaults to daily quick-scans and weekly full-machine scans, so I know I am always safe. If there is ever an immediate threat, I get a notification, and can quickly and easily rectify the situation.

Cons

Full scans are a bit lengthy, but since they usually happen in the background, it's not a big deal. Still, I feel like if I start a full scan and go into a three hour meeting, by the time I come back, the full scan should be done. But, I guess at least I know it is being very thorough. My expectations may just be a bit high.

Great Antivirus!

Overall, I would say that I am satisfied with Symantec Endpoint. This software doesn't have those troublesome pop ups that every other protection software has.

Pros

I like this software because it does it's job in the background of my computer effectively and I don't have to constantly deal with popups on my screen every couple of minutes, or every time my computer starts up.

Cons

The configuration of this software is what I like the least. The visual look and feel of the software could be updated and make it a little easier to use.

Stay away

Pros

There are no pros - Symantec is a total waste of money, resources, and I'm amazed they're still around. Might be good for grandma/grandpa who have no idea how to use a computer

Cons

Works great if you want a system hog to gobble away your CPU cycles, memory, etc. I can't wait for windows to include this for free.

Worth every penny

Pros

This product has done a tremendous job for me for several years. The success I have had and the fact I have had no issues at all is what keeps me coming back. I use this on multiple devices.

Cons

If there are any problems that I can think of it would simply be the price. It's worth it because it has worked so well, but it's still tough to fork up the money.

Virus free for at least a decade

I highly recommend this product. In the decade or longer I have used it, I have been virus and spyware free.

Pros

It installs easily, updates and scans quickly. There is the ability to add custom firewall rules to open up ports for certain types of software.

Cons

Recent compatibility issues with windows 10. After the latest creators update windows automatically removed the software from my laptop without asking me. I am sure there is a newer version that is compatible, just need to track it down now.

Great Security Tool that serves it's purpose of round the clock protection

Don't forget to do a complete research before investing in a security system for your business needs.

Pros

This is a great antivirus and security toll for business purposes, I was already aware of Norton for personal use, so this product was really good at meeting the usage requirement.
Active blocking of Malware and other viruses that makes sure our company data is secure even after workhours

Cons

The price of the product is quite high compared to other products. Customer service is a ticket system, which means if your concern is not urgent you can expect some time before you hear back from customer service.

Symantec is a good endpoint protection software for small businesses

Pros

We really like Symantec as it is very easy to add seats to our current license and deploy on new computers. Their customer support is very helpful if we need assistance in de-registering a computer seat from our subscription.

Cons

It's not free. In all seriousness, Symantec is, on a per seat basis, one of the more expensive protection services available for purchase. But we feel it's worth the cost to keep our systems safe and secure.

Use to be fantastic. But that was then. My, how things have changed.

For quite a few years I had Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) deployed across servers and workstations in multiple offices. At the time, I found it to offer the best balance of effectiveness and efficiency. Customers support was prompt and professional, and even after I fled the IT profession to preserve my sanity I kept SEP running on my own home computers. All was well until I upgraded to version 14, at which point everything pretty much went to hell. Experiences that I have had with the new version of SEP: • Total system lockups during every comprehensive system scan. The only way for me to get through a scan was to limit the scans to known file types. • The SEP client grabbing every available CPU core without warning, even when there are no scans or updates scheduled. • Technical support whose philosophy is apparently "Make the customer suffer enough and they will never complain again." I spent a least than eight hours doing the bidding of the Symantec's support folks, but when it became apparent that they couldn't solve the problem I tried to close the support case as "problem not solved". At which point they made it clear that they intended to keep me jumping through hoops indefinitely. I finally told them that their constant stream of emails demanding yet more logfiles constituted harassment, and I blocked them at my email gateway for extra protection. Great job, folks. Now, I use Sophos.

Pros

Incredibly granular control of each security component, customizable to suit a broad range of business environments. IF you can get it to run, you get an amazing amount of control over the security policies in place for different types of machines and different offices within your business.

Cons

A tech support team trained in the dungeons of Mordor by the Dark Lord himself. Oh, and about SEP v14 bringing my system to it's knees: I'm sure that some of your customers love that, but I'll pass.

Low on resources,high on protection

We regularly get our devices checked with Symantec and we are using it for deep dive virus and malware protection. SEPM configurations have been quiet handy for our security team. Also who will avoid getting a professional support from Symantec team.

Pros

Opening task manger you can see that there is single process running for Symantec, hence it is very low on resources consumption. It provides many functionalities in a single bundle. It protects most endpoint devices by offering simple features. It gives upgrade whenever we have a need which means that we are always protected. We don't have to do much configurations as the default serves better. But still if we need any configurations we can do them.

Cons

I don't like the prompts for password time and again. The management should be possible from local as well as web based console.

Secured Computing with Symantec

Very satisfied with the experience. Has saved the organization quite a bit with regards protecting data.

Pros

Very easy to use and configure. This package delivers protection against virus attacks, spam, intrusion detection and firewall module. In the past this product was able to clean viruses that other antivirus systems could not have cleaned.

Cons

Sometimes it can use a lot of memory and processor resources especially when running full scans.
Cost can be prohibitive for some smaller organizations.
Requires technical expertise when troubleshooting most times.

Great Product

Pros

This product is very easy to install. The virus definitions update automatically. It keeps our pcs virus free.

Cons

This is not really a con as Symantec has to know about the virus before it can detect. Product updates on a regular basis, however sometimes the updates are a little late.

Symantec Endpoint Protection

Pros

Symantec Endpoint Protection in "managed" mode for Domain workstations without bogging down the system resources, and in unmanaged install for machines in the field that do not regularly connect to the building network.

Cons

Other than a few false-positives, which obviously is better than getting a virus, unless exceptions are made the Real Time protection causes time critical applications to stall or fail. Manually run full scans will stress the system resources causing a hit in productivity.

Simply the best endpoint protection even for non managed environments too

I can only recommend. It's pricey but worth the money.

Pros

Can work online and offline
Can work in managed and non-managed mode
It doesn't slow down the system
Good logging options
Excellent antivirus engine
Doesn't interfere with games.

Cons

Well, the user interface has some troubles. You need time to find everything. Could be better.
