I used TunnelBear for two years and finally decided to switch. Reasons: 1. unstable software 2. slow speed 3. narrow set of exit nodes per country 4. small list of countries - that making the service useless to tests. 5. somewhat high price compared to offered services. 6. this one is very subjective - rumors of keeping session data. Should not be true, as they did pass the security audit more than few times, though #### Ratings breakdown - Ease of use: 5/5 - Value for money: 4/5 - Customer support: 2/5 - Functionality: 3/5 #### Pros It is somewhat cheap and selloffs are regular, just you wait a bit. Interface is nice and clean. It has apps for Android, iOS, MacOs, Windows. Developers found their own original mascot and style, they are doing there best to tell sort of a story about the bear, drawing different icons for trial and even having a special minification screen when you are about to cancel the service (trust me, I hesitated for a good week before I could transform bear to cub). They have a decent list of European countries, which is shortened during last days, but it is still acceptable. Network speed is not bad most of the time. They seems to pass independent security audit and this is very important characteristic. #### Cons Software stability is something developers need to work on, both in term of applications and servers. Application may start to eat the battery, network may completely disappear after vpn is switched off (very often on android). Too few exit nodes. If exit node is located in one of less popular countries the speed may be as slow as 56k rendering the service unusable. They lingered quite a while before deciding to stop cooperate with Russian that wanted them to share private data. There was some humors that wasn't quite dispelled that TunnelBear actually saving some session data. #### Reasons for choosing TunnelBear 4 years ago they seemed to have desired country set, their app looked very smart designed and easy to use and there was a huge selloff (yeah, right) --- ### The Bear Will Get You There! - Overall rating: 5/5 - Reviewer: Nadine M. - Verified reviewer: Yes - Industry: Entertainment - Company size: Self-Employed - Product usage: Used monthly for less than 6 months - Reviewed: May 2022 - Review source details: This reviewer was invited by us to submit an honest review and offered a nominal incentive as a thank you. I feel it is worth using, I can't say that I have had an unpleasant experience using it. It sufficed for what it was required to deliver. #### Ratings breakdown - Ease of use: 5/5 - Value for money: 4/5 - Customer support: 4/5 - Functionality: 5/5 #### Pros Relatively good speed. It worked well for social media live streaming. #### Cons In a few instances, it took a shorter time than I needed to conned to the source. #### Reasons for switching to TunnelBear I technically have not made a switch because ProtonVPN is a godsend! I am happy to use TunnelBear when I have an unforeseen personal situation. I use both. --- ### An Okay VPN - Overall rating: 4/5 - Reviewer: Corine T. - Verified reviewer: Yes - Industry: Public Relations and Communications - Company size: 2-10 employees - Product usage: Used other for free trial - Reviewed: November 2019 - Review source details: This reviewer was invited by us to submit an honest review and offered a nominal incentive as a thank you. My overall experience with TunnelBear was fairly positive. It helped me to be able to use a VPN and I got to choose which country to use out of at least 23 different countries. I think that the free version should offer a little more because I'm not sure that the paid subscriptions are truly worth the money. #### Ratings breakdown - Ease of use: 4/5 - Value for money: 3/5 - Functionality: 4/5 #### Pros I liked that TunnelBear had a free version that you can use at anytime and not just for a free trial. The 500mb of data you get for free renews each month, so this is very convenient. There are also a lot of countries you can choose from for your VPN. #### Cons I'm not sure that the overall quality of this software is so great. I don't think it is necessarily worth the money. 500mb is also a nice amount to get for free, but it can run out quickly, depending on how often you are going to use the VPN. --- ### Easy to use - Overall rating: 5/5 - Reviewer: Dorothy P. - Verified reviewer: Yes - Industry: Graphic Design - Company size: Self-Employed - Product usage: Used monthly for free trial - Reviewed: August 2019 - Review source details: This review was submitted organically. No incentive was offered #### Ratings breakdown - Ease of use: 5/5 - Value for money: 5/5 - Functionality: 5/5 #### Pros TunnelBear is easy to set up and use. If you are worried about online security, using a VPN like TunnelBear is ideal. The plan is relatively cheap or you can use the free version which will give you 500 MB per month. #### Cons The only con while using TunnelBear was that some of my software that requires internet connection was either slow or unresponsive. It's a known issue that Netflix will not work while using most VPNs. #### Reasons for choosing TunnelBear TunnelBear was free, the software was simple and aesthetically pleasing. --- ### TunnelBear.. - Overall rating: 5/5 - Reviewer: Maaz K. - Verified reviewer: Yes - Industry: Computer Software - Company size: 201-500 employees - Product usage: Used daily for more than 2 years - Reviewed: September 2021 - Review source details: This reviewer was invited by us to submit an honest review and offered a nominal incentive as a thank you. I have been using tunnelbear from quite a lot of time and am very satisfied with the speed that it works with and like the sense of security that is provides using it about my data and cyberfoot prints. #### Ratings breakdown - Ease of use: 5/5 - Value for money: 5/5 - Customer support: 5/5 - Functionality: 5/5 #### Pros TunnelBear is a very secure yet fast VPN software. It allows you to mask your cyber identity and cover your tracks by making you surf the web anonymously as it changes or hide your real IP address from servers. It has hundreds of IPs from many countries which makes your surfing experience fast even on VPN. You can also access blocked or censored websites through it which is very useful for people living in regions with strict political censorship. TunnelBear is very committed to users and their data safety and hence store no ip, data or information about its users online sessions and activities. You can use it on 5 devices at a time on single subscription. #### Cons TunnelBear stands true to the purpose it is designed for, but the subscription fee is a bit high especially for underdeveloped countries, apart from that it is an excellent software. --- ### Tunnel Bear: Not my first choice - Overall rating: 2/5 - Reviewer: Jenn W. - Verified reviewer: Yes - Industry: Environmental Services - Company size: 2-10 employees - Product usage: Used weekly for less than 6 months - Reviewed: February 2021 - Review source details: This review was submitted organically. No incentive was offered #### Ratings breakdown - Ease of use: 4/5 - Value for money: 2/5 - Functionality: 2/5 #### Pros I liked that the software was inexpensive and the graphics were pretty fun. Who doesn't like a cute bear? #### Cons Although, the set-up of the software was easy enough what I did not like was the very limited locations available to connect to. Also, at times when you were connected to one location, you would be bumped off that location and immediately taken to another location. The purpose of a VPN is to secure one location so when your IP address is pinging in different locations, that doesn't look legitimate and may raise some problems depending on what site you are currently on. #### Reasons for switching to TunnelBear I wanted to try a few VPN services to see what was a good fit for me. --- ### Great VPN - Overall rating: 3/5 - Reviewer: Jelle J. - Verified reviewer: Yes - Industry: Computer Software - Company size: 2-10 employees - Product usage: Used weekly for less than 6 months - Reviewed: December 2021 - Review source details: This review was submitted organically. No incentive was offered #### Ratings breakdown - Ease of use: 4/5 - Value for money: 5/5 - Functionality: 3/5 #### Pros Tunnelbear is a great VPN that has a nice design with bears. The free tier works good but the paid version is a lot better. #### Cons I switched to another VPN because of the price, but I would have sticked with Tunnelbear if they had made their software cheaper. #### Reasons for switching to TunnelBear CyberGhost VPN did not feel as fast as Tunnelbear --- ### Only for short term operations. Period. - Overall rating: 4/5 - Reviewer: Nadusha V. - Verified reviewer: Yes - Industry: Information Technology and Services - Company size: 51-200 employees - Product usage: Used other for more than 2 years - Reviewed: December 2018 - Review source details: This reviewer was invited by us to submit an honest review and offered a nominal incentive as a thank you. Overall, I'm only using this for some simple operations only. Only reason I'm using this is because of the user friendliness of the app. And this is 100% working where some other tools don't work sometimes. But the bandwidth limit is too low. So I can only rate it 5 out of 10. #### Ratings breakdown - Ease of use: 4/5 - Value for money: 3/5 - Customer support: 3/5 - Functionality: 4/5 #### Pros Well, I like everything about the Tunnelbear vpn. It can hide your identity and can connect to any server in almost all of the countries out there. works pretty well. Thishas an Chrome extension so that you can use it with the chrome browser. First you have to create an account and then you have to login. this process is very easy and won't take too much time. And you can connect right away. There's an android app so that use vpn from your mobile device wiht those login credentials. Everything is pretty easy. user interface is very simple. and attractive as well. and connecting won't take too long or there's no queue like other tools. #### Cons like I said previously, usage bandwidth is limited when you're using this. like very low. you only get 500MB per month. so it's not suitable for long term operations like browsing social media, downloading things etc. however they allow you 1 GB if you could tweet about their service. But even that doesn't sound enough for me. Plus there are some competitors who offer the same service for free! So this is a bit questionable. --- ### VPN With Some Flare - Overall rating: 5/5 - Reviewer: Marouane T. - Verified reviewer: Yes - Industry: Online Media - Company size: 11-50 employees - Product usage: Used daily for more than 2 years - Reviewed: April 2019 - Review source details: This reviewer was invited by us to submit an honest review and offered a nominal incentive as a thank you. TunnelBear offers an easy to use, secure and consistent VPN service with apps across all the platforms I use at a competitive price. #### Ratings breakdown - Ease of use: 5/5 - Value for money: 5/5 - Functionality: 5/5 #### Pros TunnelBear is a consistent and powerful VPN solution. The service is inexpensive and with applications available across multiple platforms including browser extensions TunnelBear makes it easy to ensure you're protected and have VPN access wherever you are. The interface is intuitive and for those who don't know much about VPNs the settings have helpful descriptions for the more complex features. The animations and design of the interface is charming and a welcome change from the dull app interfaces out there. TunnelBear is fast and realiable, easily one of the best VPNs on the market. #### Cons I have not experienced any real issues with the service or it's apps in all the time I've been using TunnelBear, and I've been using it for a long time. --- ### TunnelBear - Overall rating: 4/5 - Reviewer: Osarumwense I. - Verified reviewer: Yes - Industry: Motion Pictures and Film - Company size: 2-10 employees - Product usage: Used weekly for less than 2 years - Reviewed: May 2021 - Review source details: This review was submitted organically. No incentive was offered Overall, TunnelBear, with its intuitive UI has done a great job simplifying VPNs for a novice like me, in my business. #### Ratings breakdown - Ease of use: 5/5 - Value for money: 4/5 - Customer support: 4/5 - Functionality: 5/5 #### Pros It is brilliantly designed to meet our everyday needs. It is secure and have your device protected; no need to worry about your data being stolen. The fact that TunnelBear is fun, and offers free 500mb every month is probably the most attractive thing about it. It is very unlikely to find a VPN solution that offers free service, and still be fun to use. No other VPN solutions like TunnelBear; with its free trial, you can check it out if you like the product. Its simplicity makes it fun to use by inexperienced users. TunnelBear supports split tunneling on android devices. It can also be use as a secure torrent network. #### Cons What i like least about this software is how slow the internet connection could be sometimes, most especially after disconnected and trying to reconnect. This should be looked into. It is not a great fit for streaming as the data zaps quickly. Relatively few servers. More servers should be added. #### Reasons for switching to TunnelBear Too many ads, and it messes up my phone. --- ### My personal opinion about using Tunnelbear - Overall rating: 4/5 - Reviewer: Verified Reviewer - Verified reviewer: Yes - Industry: E-Learning - Company size: Self-Employed - Product usage: Used daily for less than 12 months - Reviewed: November 2023 - Review source details: This reviewer was invited by us to submit an honest review and offered a nominal incentive as a thank you. Tunnelbear is a great VPN that people can rely on which saving money along the way. It has basic good features, enough VPN protocols, having a stable internet connection and good internet speed that can rival that of other VPNs. Customer support is always there for you if you need to ask questions and they really put an effort into solving the problems that users are facing. All in all, it is a pleasant VPN to use and I am 100 percent sure you will feel the same too! #### Ratings breakdown - Ease of use: 5/5 - Value for money: 4/5 - Functionality: 4/5 #### Pros First of all, Tunnelbear is priced right amongst its competitors which are more costly. Don't let cheap price fool you as it is a good VPN with tons of features that you can also get on other pricy VPNs. Initial sign-up and login is simple and intuitive and doesn't take that much time to do it. To connect, you just need to click a button and boom! instant connected. You don't need to worry about connection dropout as VPN is connected all the time and stable. I tried to connect to a variety of server locations and internet speeds in those regions are more or less the same regardless of distance of location that you are connecting from. The latest VPN protocol, wireguard is added; therefore you are not missing out on latest features. Splitbear did the job perfectly by restricting apps that you chose from to connect to VPN. Ghostbear essentially masks your ISP from know about the fact that you are using VPN; thus, it may be useful for people from countries which deploys severe internet censorship. #### Cons Sometimes, your account can be logged out and you need to sign-in again but it is not that much of a deal-breaker as it happens only a few times from using it. I also encountered a bug about connecting as clicking it didn't do anything; therefore, I exited the app and reopened one more time to solve the problem. The thing is yes, Tunnelbear does have problems but they are mostly minor ones which will not cause users to have headache. --- ### Great travel VPN for computer and mobile - Overall rating: 4/5 - Reviewer: Verified Reviewer - Verified reviewer: Yes - Industry: Defense & Space - Product usage: Used weekly for less than 2 years - Reviewed: December 2017 - Review source details: This reviewer was invited by us to submit an honest review and offered a nominal incentive as a thank you. An easy to use VPN for both my computer and mobile device, I usually use it when I am travelling and on an unfamiliar network and am worried about my personal security. #### Ratings breakdown - Ease of use: 4/5 - Value for money: 3/5 - Customer support: 3/5 - Functionality: 3/5 #### Pros This is very easy to use both on a computer and a mobile phone when you are on untrusted networks and want a secure connection. There are plenty of different options of locations to "tunnel" to, which is nice. Additionally, the price is not too bad for a VPN service, and it goes down if you buy larger packages. I have never really experienced that many connection issues when using TunnelBear, which is a big plus considering other VPNs drop me frequently. #### Cons There are other VPNs that provide just as much security, if not more due to legal requirements of collecting data on customers. TunnelBear does not collect logs, but still beware that Canada, where they are based, has very strict privacy laws and anti-P2P laws. #### Vendor response Hey there! Thanks for your review! The Bears are thrilled that you're enjoying the service. You will be pleasantly surprised to find out that TunnelBear does NOT collect logs of the website you visit. Phew! :) TunnelBear explicitly does not collect, store or log the following data: - IP addresses visiting our website - IP addresses upon service connection - DNS Queries while connected - Any information about the applications, services or websites our users use while connected to our Service You can learn more at TunnelBear's human-readable, super transparent privacy policy: https://www.tunnelbear.com/privacy-policy. A fan of the service, and also it offers timely plans discounts for subscription renewal, really good experience at the best price. #### Ratings breakdown - Ease of use: 5/5 - Value for money: 5/5 - Customer support: 3/5 - Functionality: 5/5 #### Pros I have several devices (Mac, iPhones, iPad, Windows PC and Android) and just setting my TunnelBear account when downloading and installing their respective versions work just great in each device. I really feel protected, as they are constantly updating the app and it offers configuration options who protect you much more; like Browsers plug-ins, traffic emulation, and UDP/TCP forcing for reliable/not reliable internet connections. #### Cons Under really unreliable connections (bandwidth compromised) the experience is really bad, but I guess is unfair to blame the app :). --- ### Network Security Program: TB - Overall rating: 4/5 - Reviewer: Bennett W. - Verified reviewer: Yes - Industry: Financial Services - Company size: 51-200 employees - Product usage: Used weekly for less than 2 years - Reviewed: August 2023 - Review source details: This reviewer was invited by us to submit an honest review and offered a nominal incentive as a thank you. Some websites are in my country geo-blocked like Hulu or CBS. I solved this problem by using TunnelBear. It works flawlessly every time. I don't even notice I am using a VPN because the speed of download and upload is almost the same as my carrier provide. #### Ratings breakdown - Ease of use: 5/5 - Value for money: 5/5 - Customer support: 5/5 - Functionality: 5/5 #### Pros TunnelBear is a fantastic VPN service with easy to use interface which has a lot of sweet little bears all around menus. When you press to turn on the button you are greeted with a nice animation of a bear digging a tunnel from your country to a selected country. Their dedication to those little details and overall quality of service is what makes TunnelBear the best VPN. If you bought their subscription because the free plan doesn't meet your requirements then you can enjoy their VPN service on all your devices. The mobile app has some features that other competitors still don't have. One example is VigilantBear - this stops all your internet connection if it becomes unstable and you are likely to be reconnected so there won't be any privacy leaks. Also, in their terms of service is written that they don't keep or sell your browsing history and other data as some other companies do. So, if you are very vigilant about your internet privacy TunnelBear is a must-go choice. #### Cons The only downside of TunnelBear is their pricing if you choose monthly plan but most of the users usually choose year plan so they don't have to bother with that and usually with a monthly plan there is a lot more saving. In TunnelBear is this enormous 50%. --- ### TunnelBear - Surf Fearlessly - Overall rating: 4/5 - Reviewer: Caleb J. - Verified reviewer: Yes - Industry: Information Technology and Services - Company size: 501-1000 employees - Product usage: Used weekly for less than 2 years - Reviewed: October 2019 - Review source details: This reviewer was invited by us to submit an honest review and offered a nominal incentive as a thank you. Try it! #### Ratings breakdown - Ease of use: 5/5 - Value for money: 5/5 - Functionality: 5/5 #### Pros The cute little bear grabbed my attention first, well it came recommended from a cybersecurity pro. Then the bear just sealed the deal. What can I say I am a sucker for good branding and theirs is pretty good. Anyway, the real reason why I needed to find a trusty VPN is because I like to work from coffee shops and I wanted additional protection of my info! The scammers are serious out here in these streets, I simply don't have time to deal with the hacks. So that is where TunnelBear steps in, it keeps me feeling a bit more secure for when I am out and about using public wifi. #### Cons Absolutely nothing really - sometimes it disconnects for a brief second but it's right back up. It will tell you by popping a notification across the screen. Other than that I think the price is great and the customer service is great as well. I definitely highly recommend them for VPN. --- ### Sweet bear makes your surfing better! - Overall rating: 4/5 - Reviewer: Barış E. - Verified reviewer: Yes - Industry: Chemicals - Company size: 501-1000 employees - Product usage: Used weekly for less than 2 years - Reviewed: September 2019 - Review source details: This reviewer was invited by us to submit an honest review and offered a nominal incentive as a thank you. That digging bear makes feel user much better while connecting to the other worlds. Other than our sweet hero, I would very satisfied with the quickness of the app while connecting. It only takes few seconds to connect VPN's. It also provides free data for sharing a tweet for the app, which makes it very user friendly. #### Cons The app gives error and you need to restart the app if you try to change your VPN few times in a short time (like 4-5 times in a minute), altough I was a premium user. Other than this I can not really see a bad point of the app. --- ### TunnelBear is a Great VPN - Overall rating: 5/5 - Reviewer: Verified Reviewer - Verified reviewer: Yes - Industry: Telecommunications - Company size: 501-1000 employees - Product usage: Used daily for less than 2 years - Reviewed: October 2018 - Review source details: This reviewer was invited by us to submit an honest review and offered a nominal incentive as a thank you. I care about security and go a little ham over it, and I find myself trusting Tunnelbear. There's no logging, which is always awesome and hard to find for the price. Its free plan also does the job. #### Cons It can get pretty slow at times, but for daily browsing it works. Streaming gets hard and I need to turn it off to use Netflix. --- ### Tunnel bear is the definition of "what you see is what you get" - Overall rating: 5/5 - Reviewer: Fotios K. - Verified reviewer: Yes - Industry: Computer Software - Company size: 201-500 employees - Product usage: Used daily for more than 2 years - Reviewed: January 2023 - Review source details: This review was submitted organically.
