Tableau's live visual analytics and interactive dashboard allow slicing & dicing datasets for generating relevant insights and exploring new opportunities. Users can create interactive maps and analyze data across regions, territories, demographics and more. Tableau helps to create a narrative story of the data analysis with interactive visualizations that can be shared with their audience.

Tableau can be customized to serve a number of industry verticals including banking, communication, education, healthcare, real estate, manufacturing and technology. The solution can be either installed on-premises or hosted on the cloud as a SaaS application. Users can also view and analyze data on their Android and iOS smartphones with Tableau Mobile app.

There have been a few times where the Tableau system was down and the information wasn’t up-to-date. It would sometimes be down for half an hour or more

Definitely recommend this product as it has a very consistent support, feature and patching stream, but would recommend taking some kind of course that specifically works with this product to ensure fully functional capability.

Pros

The ability to generate graphical representations of almost any data set is much more intuitive than the standard office product can produce. Chart tracking and collaborative capabilities allow for even the most geographically diverse teams to remain on target with the appropriate tools at their disposal. Charting and workflow development is straight forward and easy to track. Great training and learning aids if you license the product.

Cons

Definitely for the true project management professional with an existing background in PMP. The standard text based product user, or beginning level professional would find some challenges with this tool do the precise nature of the application and its functionality. Can be bulky and resource intensive for the small organization hardware set.

Very nice executive tool for marketing and management purposes. Visuals look great, and the new prep software is extremely useful.

Pros

It is easier for the average person to get a hang of than any other BI visualization software I have encountered. There is no need to learn sql or know the difference between facts and dimensions. You operate in a UI that directs your inputs and reduces error potential.

Cons

You're probably not going to do much deep analysis or forecasting with this tool. The visualizations can provide deep and detailed cuts, but beyond that, this is not an analytical tool.

Master of automated reports

Ease-of-use

Functionality

Product Quality

Customer Support

Value for Money

- I would recommend Tableau software ( desktop and server ) to any medium sized data driven company. With the new pricing, the quality / price ratio is fair enough.

Pros

- Tableau server : Ability to publish reports and share the data with the wanted parties in 2 clicks
- Data download : Downloading data ( raw format or tabular ) directly from the report
- Variety of customisable charts and dashboards
- Use of parameters : Passing values using parameters will make the report more customisable

Cons

- Extract and automated refreshing process are a bit buggy.
- UI will crash if the report is built on top of an important amount of data ( depends also on the UI and how many filters are used )
- Live connexion feature do not scale well with the size of data used.

I work on Zip Code level or County level data to analyze how fix and flip loans are doing on a regional level.

Pros

The differnt type of charts, plots and graphs which can be created can immensely increase and ease of data viewing. Show more feature helps in deciding the chart and analysing data on aggregated or unaggregated level.
Tableau can easily handle differnt dataset and merge on key levels.

Maps data can easily be plotted and increases the data visualisation for viewing for higher leadership.

Cons

Merging differnt datasets is sometime a problem as the software is unable to identify key or just because a column is string in one end and decimal on other table.

I have been using Tableau for the past 4 months for my school course data visualization. I have used Tableau for 5-6 assignments and my project in school. It taught me a new aspect of looking at the data. It taught how to visualize data in ways I have never done before.

Pros

1. Provides various insights when I view my data in the tableau.
2. The tooltip is the best thing in Tableau. It gives you the details of the particular point.
3. Another plus point is the dual axis technique that we can use in to compare and contrast the data.
4. "Redo" option that is by using ctrl+z and ctrl+y, this is another thing that is not offered by many other data visualization tools.

Cons

1. At times I feel that zoom-in and zoom-out option doesn't work as easily. It takes time to respond.

Pros

I got a license free as a university student. It is really good for analysing data and visualising them. Produce good quality diagrams for report writing. It gives good and deep insights into data when you know how to use the software properly, applying the filters etc.

Cons

The software however can sometimes take some tinkering to figure out how you can plot the diagrams the way you want them. Yet, the same goes with any other statistical software. It is good in that you don't really need to do any coding.

We've been able to find many undetected problems and unrealized opportunities by plotting data from many difference sources together via Tableau. This met our needs and prevented us from having to buy a much more expensive DMP.

Pros

Tableau allows us to combine and reference data sources from a wide variety of places. No other software that we've found allows us to cross-reference data from completely different applications/platforms.

Cons

It's fairly expensive, and you also need very technical skills within your staff to make the most of what you've invested in.

I use tableau to create dashboards. There is an interface between Tableau and a metric's report tool, so the information that is entered is that tool is then reflected in tableau. There, I created some dashboards to see the result of the metrics (number and color [red, green or grey]). After all metrics have been reported, the dashboard can be exported in different formats.

Pros

Can be connected with any software through an interface. You can create any dashboard from scratch, write the formulas, the logic you want the software to use in order to see the expected result. You can see the information in many different ways, depending on the type of dashboard you choose.

Cons

If you want to build a dashboard from scratch, you will need an expert who understand how to write formulas. The support it is not good enough

I am a relatively new user of Tableau, and have been overwhelmingly impressed by this software. There is just so much that you can do. Once you understand the basic design elements, you can quickly dive into your data and find answers to questions you didn't know you had.

Cons

There is a decent learning curve on Tableau, and I feel the software does not make it clear what happens when you place object x in place y (initially). Without guided instruction there is a LOT of trial and error to understand the software. I would highly recommend watching some kind of training material on Tableau before using it, but even with that warning I could not recommend anything better than Tableau.
