Pros

Back in my days at the academe, autocad is one of the basic subjects that should be learned as an engineer. Whenever my students come and ask for help with it, I can easily teach them since the functions were basic and can be easily understood.

Now that too many improvements were made, I can't see anything that can be a reason to dislike this product.

Pros

We have multiple drafting programs as the preferred software can vary depending on project teams and principal consultant/client preferences, however we still encourage the use of AutoCAD as it is the industry go to for drafting programs.

Cons

The biggest drawback is the new pricing structure where they've eliminated perpetual licenses. Smaller business like ourselves will have a hard time shouldering this recurring subscription fee.

When it comes to drafting programs, we still prefer using AutoCAD, specifically for 2D drafting (plans, elevations, etc.). The layout is easy to navigate and it can process large files quickly.

I would recommend this software for anyone in the architectural profession.

Pros

Hands down the best 2D drafting tool on the market. It is very easy to use right out of the box and provides with unquestionable precision.

Cons

It's not Revit and thus does not provide Building Information Modeling (BIM). Although it does have some similar capabilities it's simpler to use it for what it is -- a 2D drafting tool.

Besides the computer errors that you will experience from time to time. This software is actually very good. Learning can also be somewhat easy if you have a good knowledge of this software. I will still recommend others to purchase the software.

Pros

I like the fact that you don't have to be a seasoned engineer to use this application. Those that are still learning will be able to go right away and start creating. If you are a seasoned engineer then the work that you create will actually be great. This gives you such a great field of moment that you can see for yourself how something will move or stand.

Cons

The problem with this is the software is that purchasing this is super expensive. The training along can also be expensive. So I hope you have a large wallet to undertake the massive amount of money that this will need.

I use AutoCAD to make simple designs such as bedrooms/bathrooms blueprints.

Pros

AutoCAD is a CAD software ( Coumputer Aided Design) that, as its name suggest, helps you create, view and modify 2D designs most of the time for architecture but you can also use it to create plumber systems, mechanical parts and more. I like the variety of tools you have to customize your work and the simplicity of the interface.

Cons

If its your first time using a professional CAD software, you can get confused mainly because you dont know how to start beyond drawing a line, try first with some other options that are more visual and intuitive.

Pros

I have been using Autocad since the very early releases. It has set a standard for technical drawing and what I have learnt in the early days is still valid in the new releases proving a solid and consistent evolution in over twenty years.
It represents a solid investment in knowledge.

Cons

Software licensing has been particularly flexible in the past years, allowing students to learn the drawing techniques almost for free and become proficient in Autocad quickly.
It would be good to release free limited versions of the software to capture again that kind of users.

Must have engineering software tool.

Pros

It became "de facto" standard. Everybody in engineering world is using it. And once you adopt it, hardly you can do your business without it. Having its own standard for generated files (.DWG) ensures fully compatibility for all the historical versions, and support for them is great. Nowadays, using its online tools for collaboration makes things even easier.

Cons

It is really expensive for users that need only few options of it. Of course, you have free viewer tool, but in case you want to set small change, or some simple edit detail, it cannot be done without full version. And price for such use is extremely high. You have different products on the market that do quite the same thing, but because .DWG format is closed by Autodesk, you can never be sure that real format compatibility will be satisfied.
