7shifts Software


 

7shifts is an online employee scheduling software system designed for shift workers operating in the restaurant industry. The solution allows employees to check their upcoming shifts, scheduled availability and time-off requests from the 7shifts home screen using a mobile app.

If a worker is unexpectedly unable to make it to their assigned shift, the app allows employees to offer their shifts to other workers who are available, who can then bid on that shift. The unavailable employee can then reassign their shift to another worker with a single click.

If an employee’s availability changes, they can make a note within the app, which managers can then view and approve. Workers can even request time off, and managers can view and approve these requests from their own mobile device.

7shifts enables social networking via a feature called the "Wall," which allows employees to post messages about upcoming social events or remind colleagues of upcoming work assignments.

Pros

I looked at several different apps before I decided on 7 shift, bit it really was no contest. The price was right, and it was so user friendly. I have had little to no issue figuring the software out on my own. My employees love that they get notified as soon as the schedule is posted. It's so easy for them to change their availability and switch shifts. I love that I can accept or decline shifts being traded based on who is working.

Cons

I have only been using the app for a few weeks, and really don't see anything I don't like. It has made my work life so much easier!

I have been using the product for the last 5 months. The lie and say they will get back to you on the weekends. I have called for support on many Friday afternoons and Saturdays and don't hear back until Monday. I suggested they change the language to say Mon-Friday support but they refuse and said they are going to hire someone to help at some point.

7 Shifts has been awesome to use. Everything from scheduling, to shift changes to keeping the staff up to date on upcoming reservations, events and bands playing at the pub, it's all there. There is a lot of very useful features on the app, however it still maintains an efficient level of simplicity at the same time.

I'm so happy that we made the switch in our scheduling routine to using 7Shifts. The amount of time and head-aches I have saved in the few short months we've been using 7Shifts has been incredible.

I would recommend this program to anybody in the industry looking for a simple and easy-to-use method of scheduling that is beneficial to both management and employees. 15 years of doing the schedule the same way, we gave 7Shifts a try a few months ago and will never go back to the way we did things before.

Likes Least

Honestly, they're great. Can't say a bad thing. They're always progressing and making improvements.

Recommendations

There are a few scheduling softwares out there focused on restaurants (HotSchedules/ScheduleFly), but we've found this to be the best in terms of bang for your buck.

It has so many additional functions than other scheduling software that we've tried, and every time I think of a feature that would make it even better, they have taken my feedback and have worked on adding it!

Likes Least

There have been some issues pulling hours for payroll, which is time consuming and frustrating. But they've always been responsive in helping get them sorted out.

Recommendations

Try it! Especially if you have multiple locations. It literally saves you hours!

- Additional features continue to be available that advance our experience.
- Overall ease of use for the staff and communication about their schedule (availability & time off requests)

Likes Least

The problems we have had over the past year with incorrect reporting. Several times, the data was not what it should have been (missing lunch breaks, issues with overtime, etc). This has cost us (on more than one occasion) several hours of payroll-day headaches and frustration while we tried to figure out the problem, which was an issue on 7shifts' end.

Recommendations

Overall, it's simple and easy to use and has great functions.

Pros

Simple and easy to use. You can message staff directly or by job description- so if there is something I specifically need the kitchen to know I can select that particular group. The app is helpful and I can respond to emails with "approved" or "denied" for even quicker responses to shift changes. I also like that there is an events calendar that the staff can see.

Cons

If you're doing the schedule on the app rather than the website, it doesn't show you who has requested time off or who is unavailable to work that day. I also cannot edit the preset shift times on the app.

I love how easy it makes scheduling, especially shift changes. Knowing staff members have their schedules at their fingertips helps keep them accountable, and I love the shift pool function. The support staff is always great, any problems I've encountered or help I've needed has always been addressed promptly.

Cons

I do wish that admins could edit each other's profiles. We recently opened a second location and I was helping them set up their schedules, and it was annoying to have to bug them if I needed to change their roles or locations.

Working with the app has been awesome. Never had a problem. When something works well you should rarely need support. But there's been a few times I've asked a question on how to do something and they were super responsive and cool.

Pros

Its turn key. When opening a restaurant nothing is turn key. Once you set it up..It works 100% like it's supposed to. Communication/announcements. When there s a problem from the day before I can segment that based on position. No need to hit the FOH with a lesson that's only applicable to the BOH. This allows that.

Cons

Its really hard to find something I don't like. I really have no complaints. But I think a good feature to add: historic sales inputs- for the labor %- to continue the next week automatically.

My overall experience has been very positive. 7 Shifts has allowed me to save several hours a week and be a more effective personnel manager.

Pros

7 Shifts allows me to take a much more strategic approach to scheduling. Before 7 shifts, I managed my schedule manually and most of my mental energy was spent creating the scheduling template and organizing my employee's scheduling requests. With 7 shifts, the template is already created and the employees are in charge of managing their own requests. The end result, I can spend my time scheduling my employees strategically to best meet my anticipated demand at the greatest value.

Cons

The software is such an improvement as compared to what I was dong that I really can't find any faults.

So far it has been great. You can view your shifts, pick up or release shifts into the shift pool, check your time sheet, and see who you are working with that night. Some apps don't allow you to see that or check your time sheet so it is extremely helpful when preparing for a shift.

Pros

I love the notifications when the schedule is posted. I get a text and it gets posted to the app.

Cons

So far I can't find anything I truly dislike about it.

The setup process was a breeze. Working with reps was such a positive experience. I felt like he was always available to assist me and was always knew the answers to questions immediately.

Pros

I love that this software is easy to use - and you are always making it better by updating and adding new items.

Cons

The least thing I like about our system is when you are removing an employee due to theft or immediate termination - that there should be an option to make the remaining shifts that are left for that employee to go to open shifts - instead you need to physically remove the shifts and put them to open shifts - and if the MOD hadn't noticed that this wasn't done - you could potential be shorthanded.

It is easy to use and someone is always there to help if we have questions, comments or concerns. It has made scheduling easier on us and our staff. Everything is right there on your phone.

Pros

We have 50+ employees at our restaurant. It used to be difficult looking up everyone's availability and time off. Now with just a mouse click everything you need to know about each individuals availability and time off is at your finger tips. It saves our management team so much time!

Cons

When you decline a request off and put in a reason why we can not figure out how the staff member sees those. It's most likely us and user error?

I like the shift flag feature --- would like an attendance report option.

Cons

Announcement feature is faulty at best -- would like the option to send announcements company wide without having to select each zone which results in multiple emails/notifications for a single message.

Would love to see a feature where you can pin announcements and a place where you can make attachments more easily accessible

If employees want to change their shift, they don’t need to ask their boss/manager and it gets forgotten. The shift is directly sent for approval and a replacement can easily be found.
You can also mange your daily salary budget and even weekly to have control on how to staff efficiently.

Cons

They need to have cluster part of their platform to get daily sales.

It’s improved so much that their is nothing to complain about.
