It’s not the most intuitive software available, and the user interface needs work.

Pros

It has most of the features an average law firm would require, so if your needs are minimal, it suffices.

Cons

The user interface is clunky and has poor organization. You cannot look at the same data in different ways quickly or easily.

The last few support people we have worked with have been good. They were able to solve the problem, even though they didn't always know why the software did what it did.

Pros

This is an easy to use product. I like the ease involved in correcting time tickets to post bills.

Cons

It's "buggy." We seem to have to call on customer support often. Also, it's disheartening that the accounting software isn't "transparent" in its math calculations. we have a hard time getting the numbers to add up and match when we compare and cross check.

Pros

Once you learn how to use Abacus, it is super easy. You are able to have everything related to the cases/matters on the same program and accessible on the same window.
Customer service is excellent.

Cons

Forms are very difficult to make them work properly.
Also, you need to call customer support every time you need to install an update

Pros

Everything you need to keep track of your files/cases is at your fingertips. Keep track of your calendar, contacts, and billing together all in one place.

Cons

No real serious cons. I would like the program if there was a better place to put a second address for defendants (i.e. if a defendant is incarcerated, it would be nice to have a place to put his home address as well as the address where he is incarcerated).

Pros

I find the program easy to use. There are also a few features that other billing programs dont offer.

There are A LOT of kinks in the program that require weekly calls to abacus, and a lot of updates to the program which require all users to be out of the program during the work day

Value for Money

In closing, my impressions of Abacus have been favorably shaped because of my interactions with this person. Please ensure that her supervisor is aware and that any organizational kudos are promptly applied.”

Pros

We hired an onsite trainer to come to get us suited up for a Billing conversion. As a former trainer with many years of experience, CSR did an excellent job with training the material but what stood out was their commitment to us after heading back to her daily job. We could call them and they would help us and THAT IS RARE. Way to go Support Team!

Cons

Well, new software is new software but no harder or easier to learn than any other software...just new.

Pros

Not much. Initial sales pitch looked promising, and then during implementation, look out, everything changed.

Cons

Price keeps increasing, support is slow or non responsive. Things are not fixed right the first time. Access is clumsy and added users are more expensive. It's cost me clients.

Just a specific note: I would like to acknowledge and recognize the top quality service and tech support our firm has received by rep. We were going through a very frustrating time due to not having our implementation fully completed, and experiencing a password reset. Eric assisted me with getting everything back up and on track. Now we can actually start training our staff on how to use Abacus Law.

Pros

Love the ease of use and how the Cloud and Abacus Law tech support teams respond right away whenever our staff has issues. Our firm also has had tons of customizations to get done, and they truly delivered on them!

Cons

Not cheap. The customizations required extra costs, but for our size of firm and the amount of data we use, it was absolutely necessary.

The out of the ordinary task I was assigned frustrated me for several hours before I reached out for assistance. But when I did reach out, the assistance was there. It was something I could do, I just needed guidance. The executive from Abacus not only guided me through the process, but he explained what I was doing as we worked through to completion of the task and how it worked so I could easily do on my own the next time. Today, I had to go back in and add another search element and was able to do so without the frustration as before. I understood how it worked, and to clone what was already working so I didn't lose what had been done but improved upon it. Thank you very much for the help AND suggestion to clone before editing!

Pros

It combines calendar (both legal and non-legal), accounting and legal / case management into one area. Legal forms are updated regularly. Notes can be made addressing each case progress and conflict of interest checks are easily manageable. Automatic population is convenient when working on new matters under regular clients. The help line has always been quick, easy and convenient. Every person I have ever spoken with has been of great assistance, without hesitation. Thank you.

Cons

It is difficult (for me) to figure out the help through the on line directions to complete an out of the ordinary task.

Customer Support

As usual, Customer support was very helpful. He called when he said he would and did his best to resolve the issues over which he had control. Where the issues related to Amicus and he could not resolve them himself, he has pointed me in the right direction so that at least I can try to get them resolved in the future if he can’t do so whilst I am on annual leave. In my view, Customer support assistance is really the only redeeming feature of the support provided, with no one else showing any real interest in helping me. The product could be excellent but is let down by speed and support issues. Now I only bother to contact Customer support as he is the only person who has really shown any interest in trying to resolve issues.

Pros

The product has a number of useful features which make it good for use in legal work. The ability to store all documents and correspondences within a file and send them by email or move them to different files are excellent, as is the ability to generate template documents and amend as necessary

Cons

The product is often slow and cumbersome to use, with numerous glitches which never seem to get resolved. we are based in the UK and were told that we would have 24 hour support, but this simply hasn't happened. I have had some issues with Outlook, copying and pasting and documents not attaching to emails for three months now and, whilst Customer support has made every attempt to try and sort these out, he is only able to do so during US working hours (which means from around 3pm UK time) and, despite his commitment and many efforts, the problems are still not resolved which, I understand, is because there is a bug for which there is so far no fix.

Cons

In October 2017, I entered into an agreement with Abacus Next for case management and accounting support for my new law practice. At the time of entering into the contract I was promised a new laptop as part of a promotion which I never received. Abacus Next did not set up my software program until the end of February 2018. I have encountered numerous issues with the software and have made many unsuccessful attempts in trying to get Abacus to rectify the ongoing issues. Every time I call I am placed on hold or routed to various people who are unable to address the problems. Abacus has also made many false representations on their website about their program. First, their 800 support number does not work. Second, the email accounts set up of for my law firm do not work. Third, I am never able to speak to a supervisor. Due to their lack of response, my staff is unable to email clients and I am unable to access new cases that are sent to me. I have asked that they return my email to my GoDaddy account for over a week so I can take back control over my email account and they have failed to do so. On one occasion while speaking with tech support I could hear other individuals talking in the background and overheard an employee say to another person. This is completely unprofessional.

Check out other options if you want a cloud bases case management program before going with APC. I am waiting for my 5 year contract to expire and then reevaluate my options. I would like to have more control over "my cloud" and have local, on the scene tech support like we used to enjoy before we were forced to upgrade to APC, or else pay a high price for non-supported, prior versions of the software.

Pros

It is nice to be able to access the case management software through the cloud. It allows you to take you work with you where ever you go - which can be a good thing or a bad one.

Cons

Abacus Private Cloud does not play well with anything but MS Office 365. I had to buy a more expensive version of Dragon Naturally Speaking Legal and there is such a lag between dictation and text, that the Dragon software never gets used. We also use Essential Forms for our Judicial Council Forms in CA. APC tech support has left me hanging for over 2 weeks, and countless hours trying to figure out software that they had previously installed on their server for our use. It also seems like every time I call support to change something, there is a horrendous charge.

Do not make the mistake of believing that this product will do anything for you other than cause you countless hours of grief.

Pros

Any pros of this software are so far outweighed by the cons that they are not worthy of even mention.

Cons

This software is absolutely horrible. I had high hopes for this software after having been given rave reviews about Amicus Attorney and calling to get more information. The salesperson convinced me that after describing my firm's needs, we were better suited for Abacus, which was owned by the same company. After purchasing the software, it took more than 8 months for them to figure out how to migrate our data from our existing billing software, a process that they represented they were very familiar with during the sales calls. When we finally made the transition to this software we quickly learned that it is not at all user-friendly, they provide no guidance on how to use the software or how to set it up, large portions of data mysteriously changes by itself (today the originating attorneys on hundreds of our chases mysteriously changed to reflect the names of our support staff members). The calendaring system is supposed to be able to sync seamlessly with Outlook. This is a joke. Items randomly disappear from attorneys' calendars or appear on the wrong attorneys calendars, when entered. Some items sync from Abacus to Outlook and others don't with no rhyme or reason. Their call center is horrible. You cannot get the same person on the phone twice, and you cannot request to speak with a particular person so there is no consistency of service. Each time you call to describe a problem you are having, you have to start from the beginning because they do not keep any records of your past calls. The people who answer the phone have no idea how the software works and always tell you that they have to research your question and get back to you. Oftentimes you never receive a call back and when you do they still don't know how to assist you. I could go on and on...

Software support is great. Any time I have a question or issue, I never have to wait long.

Pros

IT administrator here , I do work for several law firms and the majority of them use Abacus and all of them seem to like it. I have set it up and installed the software several times for a one person office all the way up to a 50 person office and it was equally easy. Never have any issues with file corruption and it integrates well with other software.

Cons

The software can be a bit of a resource hog, but I normally only notice this with users who have lower end computers. Depending on what parts of the software you use, it can take up some hard drive space. But that's about it, not many cons.

We have used AbacusLaw for at least the 18 years I have been employed and are very satisfied with the product. Helps to keep our office on top of calendaring events for our litigation cases, i.e., meetings, discovery deadlines, depositions and trials.

Pros

I work for a small firm, so we only using the calendaring system. I do like the ease of going into the calendar and just clicking on a particular day to enter my calendar event. I especially like the software for preparing trial calendars.

Cons

When I print my weekly calendar and there is a holiday that week, I have to remove "holiday" in order to print the full information for the holiday event (i.e., Court and Office Closed), otherwise it cuts it off. Once I print the calendar I have to go back in to add the holiday back, so it will continue to show up for the following year. Not a major problem, just a little inconvenient.

Cons

the one thing i do not like about this software is the accounting section. When I am cutting a check for a vendor, I can not add matters together to put into one check, I have to cut separate checks. To be able to put more than one matter on a particular vendor's check would make cutting checks easier.

We have been using this software to keep track of our cases, clients, experts, schedules, to-do lists, court deadlines and documents for over 15 years. It's been extremely helpful to our law firm.

Pros

It's extremely easy to use, update and share.

Cons

I haven't had any problems using Abacus. It's easy to customize for our use and has been very helpful.

It took a while for me to understand the program

Abacus Law works well with my firm for calendaring (which sync's with my phone calendar) and database management. The reporting is easily customizable so I can run reports on almost every field and pull just the data I want. I like having all the "names" in a separate database so I have insurance companies, doctors, individuals, attorneys, etc that can be linked to different cases with the role they play in that specific case.

Pros

My favorite thing about Abacus is the ease of making forms and customizing the software to my practice. I've used Needles and other software that make drafting form templates into code writing for techies. Abacus is really straight forward and infinitely customizable. I've used it for 6+ years and went cloud based in the last 2 years. The cloud option is awesome. It's your techies and your practice management software all in one and it goes wherever you do... any computer with internet, phone or iPad. It's nice. Convenience to have access to everything from anywhere.

Cons

It would be nice if the reminders weren't just day specific, but if you could make them so you could have a check list of things and only have them come off the list once they are accomplished. Likewise, I'd like to be able to delegate tasks on the check list to particular users/employees.

We can access our client files, documents and notes from any location. We never have to feel stuck without our information. If I ever need assistance or have a problem, the technicians are always available to assist with whatever problem I am having and they actually fix the problem!

Pros

The ease of being able to access from anywhere.

Cons

I can't think of anything. At times we have issues with add-ins being disabled and our out-look does not always sync with Abacus calendar.

Every single person I have dealt with at Abacus has been exceptional. They are always looking for ways to go above and beyond your expectations and keep their customer happy!

Pros

I like that it's an all-in-one kind of program. You can do scheduling for multiple people, attach files and documents to appts for easy access, do billing, color coordinate categories for different types appts, which is super helpful if you work in a general law practice.

Cons

Sometimes it freezes up in the middle of doing something. Just annoying to close out the program and go back in.
