PracticePanther Legal Software is a legal management solution for small to midsize practices specializing in areas including bankruptcy law, personal injury, divorce, estate planning, litigation, criminal law and many more. The system is offered primarily as a cloud-based solution and is both Mac and PC compatible. PracticePanther offers mobile apps for iPhone, iPad and Android users, allowing users to access the system remotely and sync data across devices.

Key features include case management, contact management, document management, calendaring and docketing, time tracking, billing and invoicing, and accounting. The solution provides users access to task and event workflows, credit card processing, notifications and chats and client portal. The system can be integrated with calendars and email, Dropbox, QuickBooks, PayPal and many more. Other features include contact management, document management, client portal, notifications and credit card processing.

Pricing is per month. Support is provided via an online forum, phone, email and chat.

It’s totally worth the price

Pros

I love how it keeps all the clients organized into one database. Also, it has an app, so attorneys can access any clients info from their phone while at court.

Cons

Sometimes it can be hard figuring out where the features are. Also, you can’t uplod documents directly into the database, you need to connect Dropbox for the docs.

So far it has been easy to use and begin to implement - we have found the program to run smoothly with excellent support help.

Cons

The cost is high- for years they offered a one tier payment plan but now it is per user making it much less affordable. For now we are moving forward with it however I feel there could be a better pricing plan.

For our Personal injury practice, this one fell way short. As with most software for sale, the demos looked great but until you get your hands on it, you really don't KNOW if it suits you. I was disappointed that this didn't work for us as my whole team liked the developer and we never failed to get super fast responses. The risk free trial was just that, no ifs, ands or buts, they let us try and refunded my purchase.

Pros

Very nice, friendly folks. Responsive and honest to questions, even when the answer is not favorable to them. Integrates well with Dropbox, easy to work with your own directory structure.

Cons

The software simply didn't suit our personal injury practice. The demos led us to believe the software was way more than it was, and workflows and automation, two of our biggest needs, simply weren't met.

The customer service reps are always available (through the website/app!) and are extremely flexible as far as meeting individual requests. The software overall is very intuitive and once the basic information is inputted, training other attorneys and staff is easy. The PracticePanther reps even offered to help with training and do individualized training as necessary!
The iphone app is simple yet you can do everything on it you need to - right from court. I never have to worry about missing court dates or even reminders to review certain files or specific documents because in less than a minute I can have a task set, reminders set, and it will popup as I set it. The calendar syncs with Google Calendar and they imported all of our client contacts from Quickbooks Online, saving us many hours of data entry.
We are getting into the more advanced functions like templates, workflows, and other automation and that's really where the software shines. You create the custom fields, you choose what information is important for every matter, and you can add-on as you are creating matters. The flexibility and ease of access to everything - including client files from DropBox, which can mirror any network - is unrivaled.
Really happy we went with PracticePanther. The amount of time saved having customer care/customer service always available is invaluable. Highly recommended for law firms of all sizes.

Cons

Still working on getting the office transitioned from a paper filing and calendaring system to online. So the one suggestion I would have is to maybe have an app for the calendar that is independent from the phone app - similar to google calendar.
Also, there should be a way to turn the default settings to "Do not email assignees" when a workflow is applied. But that's a tiny suggestion. Overall no major complaints.

I think the inclusion of a dashboard on the opening page is brilliant. It's a constant reminder of where I am in terms of billing, invoicing, collections, and cash flow.

Pros

Ease of use (especially for invoice generation), integration of all work and office functions, and availability across all of my devices.

Cons

Based on my limited experience so far, I'm not sure I like (maybe because I do not understand) that matter and contact numbering and how or why those assignments are made or need to be input manually.

Prior to Practice Panther, I was unable to find a system that could help me communicate with my clients effectively, and keep record of all of my general firm accounting. After I signed up to Practice Panther, I was amazed at how it organized my files and the flexibility it gave me with the way I want to manage records.

There is not much that I could say that I disliked about the software. Only thing I would probably enjoy is if it was a bit cheaper for multiple users.

I really appreciate the patience of the support staff. I'm of a different generation and according to my sons I am severely technologically challenged. Even though I use a computer all day every day, I fear he is right. You guys put me at ease when I asked questions and I truly appreciate that.

Pros

Practice Panther has functions which, once I learn to use them, will hopefully make my job a lot easier and much less time consuming. As far as entering time and expenses, it's a breeze. Creating matters and contact is great too. I'm a Paralegal but also the Business Manager so the financial end is taking a bit more effort to learn. The support staff I've dealt with has been very knowledgeable and helpful all round. The fact that two out of the three had great people skills put me at ease and made me more comfortable with being open to trying new things.

Cons

It may be too soon to answer this question. Some functions I was told would be available are not. In Practice Panther's defense, that information did NOT come from you. It may have just been an idea of someone in our meeting; not sure. Once a couple of issues are corrected i.e. PP creates a "workable check template" so I don't have to waste money on new checks, our "Role" issue is corrected, and the learning curve is mostly over I will have none of the concerns I have at this time, probably only new ones. I have faith in all you youngsters when it comes to making things work. So get busy!! :-)

The software is very intuitive and easy to use. PracticePanther has clearly thought of the details to make day-to-day practice so much easier. I highly recommend this software!

Pros

Document automation is AMAZING. Once you have your templates uploaded and custom fields set, it can cut down your drafting time by a lot. As a new solo practitioner without a paralegal, this is invaluable.
The customer service is fantastic. The software has a chat feature where you can type a question if you cannot find the answer in their extensive help center. I always receive a response the same day, and usually within a couple hours at most. The help center is quite extensive, and has both videos and text articles.
I love the invoice reminders feature. It is automated, so I don't have to remember to send an email to a client if they have not paid!

Cons

Some of the "syncing" features are not actually syncs. For example, the sync with Outlook's calendar requires that you invite your PracticePanther calendar. It does not communicate directly with Outlook. Same with LawPay. If you enter a payment through PracticePanther, it will sync with the software; if you send the LawPay link directly to the client, it does not record that as a payment in PracticePanther.

I would really like if you had someone who would do some of the setup for templates, intake forms, etc. for me for a reasonable charge.

Provides some things I need for calendaring and contact management. Learning more about how to use it for matter management and other features like the templates, intake forms, etc.

Cons

I would like to see the calendar/tasks reminder feature be exactly like Outlook - which has a lot more options, and sometimes I want the reset of the reminder to be 1 week or 2 weeks out.

Service is horrible. I understand that there have been hurricanes that have affected the ability to work. However, we are in the process of transferring weeks before the hurricane. now that the contract is signed, they are much less "helpful" and telling us it will be a couple weeks before they can get back to us. In the meantime, I am continuing to pay for another database service at prime cost because Practice Panther didn't assist in getting the information from our prior database, as they led me to believe they would be doing.

Pros

Unsure... Haven't been able to get Practice Panther to work with us to get the data imported, or the product to fully function, for over a month now.

Cons

The inter-office messaging doesnt' allow for a group message. The inter-office messages come and go so they told us to sign up for Slack... but the ability to message was one of the primary reasons we went with Practice Panther instead of another service.

Our Attorneys love being able to access case data and records from anywhere, and I have been very happy with the development pipeline. The Panther team has been adding request features regularly since we began our migration over a year ago. They're based out of Miami, which was also a big selling point for our firm since we are located in Southwest Florida. Their support staff is incredibly responsive, even an issue requires escalation.

Pros

Our team has a number of favorite features, being able to access Box via the Panther Mobile app is a big one, and being able to shoot text reminders to clients about appointments and deadlines is another favorite, but how much time Panther has shaved off of our billing cycle is definitely the top. Using Panther, we have cut in half the time it takes to review and approve pre-bills, invoice the client, and get paid.

Cons

Being a larger firm and having migrated case management software several times already made the transition and adoption challenging. Practice Panther allows for very easy import and export of information as csv files, which is great for producing your own reports, but created a lot of front end work massaging data from the previous system in order to import into Panther. As of Summer 2018, the QuickBooks integration is a little basic and still needs some work.

It has been good! We had to work out kinks when we first moved to the system and there are little things we wish has more instruction but once you implement it, you just plug and play for the most part!

Pros

Cloud-based service! This feature works so much better than having a dedicated IP for a server for our staff to use the software. As I said being able to work from anywhere and access information on the go is a life changer for the firm and all the staff. We are all more connected and communicate things clearly and easily within chat to one another also!

Cons

It could be better with support. We generally use chat to get help and the main thing is that we always get an instant link to articles while we wait and while that can be helpful sometimes it doesn't really address our issue, but overall it is helpful.

As intuitive as it is, it is also feature rich so it does take time to learn about what Practice Panther can do.

Pros

The Practice Panther software is easy to navigate and keeps all of my important information organized. I love how automated everything is. For instance, when I need to record time or send an invoice, the software streamlines these tasks and saves me a significant amount of time.

Cons

Learning that I needed to add a "participant" when sending a secure message through the client portal was a little frustrating. However, now that I know how to do it, I'm not feeling like it's a big deal at all.

We needed software that was truly Cloud based that wasn't full of many of the bugs and issues we have seen in the last 15 years with many legal case management systems. Having specialised in Legal Costs for the last 30 years I have seen every flavour of CMS. Practice Panther was for us a simple choice, find a system that allowed us to increase billing and spend less time in the business, this has done it. The team at PP are great and so helpful. Best decision the business made aside from buying our own building.

Pros

It sits on the Cloud, allows us to access on any device and best of all it feels like it was designed for Macs. And after 10 years of using a desktop CMS purely for Macs PP has changed the way we work ( our billing accuracy has improved by 75% in the first 2 months ). Ability to use on ipad, iphone, Windows or Mac , the ease of the dashboard.

Cons

There has so far been nothing that we dislike

The ability to automate forms and get an instant snapshot of our client's matters is great!

Pros

Practice Panther has an intuitive and user friendly interface. We integrate features of the product, particularly automation. every day! Practice Panther responds to its customers with new and improved features quite often and provides great customer support

Cons

I cannot think of anything I do not like about this software.

My overall experience with Practice Panther is that it makes our work tracking and communication in between the team and with clients SO easy. I would recommend this platform because it is a very friendly software with a good price.

Pros

What I loved about this software is that it is very complete. It allows you to have a database of all your clients with all the information you will need to work on their case. Also, time tracker to track work time for every client. It doesn't only do that, it allows you to issue an invoice and send it to clients. In addition to this, the program allows to create matters, this makes it very easy to track the work and very useful because every client we had could have several matters open. The task assignment is amazing and the calendar features incredible. The support I received whenever I had an issue, was very good quality.

Cons

What I didn't like was that it has an amazing sync with your dropbox and email BUT if you deleted any matter the whole folder in dropbox erased. So, if we deleted something just to close the case it would be deleted from our database in dropbox. We as lawyer, needed to keep files for at least 3 years.

The DropBox sync does not delete your folder out if a matter is deleted on PracticePanther!

There are many things I like about Practice Panther. But I think what stands out is what is important for most people. Customer service. I've used this software for almost three years and the customer service has always been excellent. They are responsive and always explain in detail the answer to my issues.

Cons

What I like least about the software is the helpful videos have been removed from the dashboard drop down menu. Although this feature still may be accessible in the help menu it was more convenient for me to find videos through the drop box menu. But this is just a very minor inconvenience at best.

Outstanding. I am so happy that we purchased this software. You don’t have to be in the office to see what’s going on with a client. If someone calls you after hours or weekends, you can look up their information on a computer, tablet, etc.

Pros

Allows for outstanding organization of client data. Easy to use. Great customer support and Help section if needed.

Cons

I haven’t found anything that I don’t like.
