Practice Fusion Software


 

Founded in 2005, Practice Fusion offers a cloud-based EHR that includes a suite of integrated features like charting, e-prescribing, patient scheduling, lab and imaging integration and more. Additionally, practices can qualify for CMS incentives, as Practice Fusion is fully certified.

Since the solution is cloud-based, users can access the system on their iPad EMR interface, which was developed to be touchscreen optimized, allows users full access to appointments, records and charting during the patient encounter.

Practice Fusion provides templates that can be customized to match the workflow of a practice, and it is designed to support a variety of specialties such as cardiology, dermatology, physical therapy, mental health, internal medicine and many more.

Practice Fusion's account managers and support specialists are available by live chat, phone or email, and there's a learning center and help forum for users seeking independent learning.

An adequate system when free but once charges started company became hard nosed, unapproachable and unsupportive.

Cons

Contract locks you into paying for a year regardless of problems encountered. Service agreement provides for contract cancellation without cause but company refused to honor that and continued to withdraw funds from credit card in spite of my no longer using system. I am a volunteer physician working in a safety net system paying for Practice Fusion out of my own pocket. They told me I needed to file a hardship request with Practice Fusion, however, when I did that they refused to consider it. Caution: BUYER BEWARE. These guys are ruthless.

Cons

They couldn't make us an inventory on the program that's why I had to go with another company.

Cons

Your data will be sold to pharmaceutical companies. It will be sold as aggregate data but still that means that your patient's privacy is compromised.

Pros

Cost is lower than others, used to be free. Can eRX controlled substances which is a bonus. Otherwise nothing great.

Cons

Cannot get tech support to call me for my life, get to talk to "triage techs" to then create tickets that are never answered, terrible patient portal system, horrible MIPS support, no personal attention for small practices.

User friendly, easy to learn, does some MIPS recording, but not in its entirely, online access from anywhere.

Cons

Customer service is horrible; they are rude, not helpful at all and you are easily on hold for 40 minutes at a time. You can leave a message, but no one ever calls you back. My MA cannot call in refills or prescriptions. The triplicate e-prescribing is clunky and doesn't always work. Was going to finish my notes for the day and I can't log on to the system, but they are no scheduled outages. For the price, definitely better out there.

Cheap, really easy to use, synopsis page, no need to download a program, online base system, patient portal with direct communication ( which helps reducing tons of phone calls). Obviously basic Emr features like rx, labs, fax, referrals.

Cons

A lot of free typing, need for sections like hx surgeries, social hx, preventive with templates or justs clicks. Attachments can not be divided in categories. Addendums per sections not general.

It would be better if the default charting was normal findings, and you only had to select a template or enter a short text to change to a positive finding

Pros

I like that I can find my previous entries easily, so that I can copy and paste and then edit easily.

Cons

Charting takes a long time. There should be more automatic templates so I do not need to type so much. If they are available, then learning how to use them is not so obvious.

User friendly, can be interfaced with few billing soft wares. They have added few new features that makes overflow and charting easier.

Cons

1. Customer service is very poor. They assign an account manager but seldom does she respond to my calls or emails. When I called their support, they put me on hold for 1 hour and 15 min!! After the grueling wait I ended up with the customer service rep who was very curt and not helpful at all. It has been a week and I'm still wait for their support team to solve my problem
2. Patientfusion portal has lot of glitches too and we get phone calls from angry patients who are unable to reach PF support!
3. They advertised as being "Free" and "always will be free" in the past. Absolutely went back on their words. The customer service has turned for the worse after they started charging a subscription fee!!

I had to learn this software for my new job and could not be more pleased at how quickly I was able to catch on. I really like that I can navigate easily between tabs and being able to scan files have them stored electronically.

Cons

The only thing I can think of is it would be nice to be able to just scan files directly to the program as opposed to scanning, saving to the PC then uploading. Other than that all is good!

Pros

Provides HIPAA compliancy for scheduling. Options for remote access to identify your schedule when not at work. It helped our office manager coordinate multiple clinicians' schedules.

Cons

Our clinic did not opt to pay for this service which would allow us to chart! I wish they did as paper notes are the worst!! No real complaints about this software.

I think of it this way. It has been free for so many years. I have participate Meaningful Use before and got incentive payments. That means I even made money without investment. In general, I don't blame the previous owner. I guess when it was difficult to continue the business as is, there has to be a change.

Pros

I customized templates myself to optimize the charting workflow in the past. It was much more efficient and accurate than the new EHR I just started to use (1/4 of time). I only need charting and billing for exam payment before. Now I need dispensary and manage inventory, I have to use a full EHR for OD. It was just about the timing PF stopped offering free version. So I didn't use the paid version. I can still view my previous charting and appointment records through PF. That is good. But I was a little bit frustrated with new way of maneuvering through charting. I even debate keeping both EHR to give myself peaceful mind.

Cons

Obviously not free anymore. Free forever? I didn't even believe it from the very beginning. It sounds right to get paid by advertisement. But, it is not something that is sufficient and guaranteed forever.

Not a Good Choice for Mental Health Professionals

This software often felt way too busy and clunky for my needs. I started shopping for software specifically made for mental health. I test drove a bunch of new software programs. Simple Practice was my choice. It does everything I need at a price I can afford. It is also very simple and intuitive by design. I can accept credit cards and conduct HIPPA-secure tele-sessions through the site. They offered an easy way to do mental status exams and treatment plans. Not so in Practice Fusion.

Pros

It allowed me to use it at no charge for many years. This was helpful for me as a solo practitioner with high overhead costs.

Cons

This software is not built with mental health in mind. There is no way to customize the interface for the specific needs of my occupation. There were a lot of annoying pop-ups that I had to deal with that did not apply to mental health providers. The most frustrating thing was attempting to work with the calendar. It was impossible to review my schedule on my mobile phone because the calendar was not optimized for mobile. Another feature that did not work well was the client search feature. No matter how many times I would type in certain clients' names, the search box would not recognize or find the client. Also, there was no quick way to add a client unless I had all of the pertinent client data on hand. Most solo MH providers are wearing all of the "hats" in the practice and are trying to schedule new clients during the one or two minutes they have between sessions. Sometimes all we have to go by during that time is a name and contact number. My biggest complaint is that client data cannot be exported via CSV or Excel format. This is a big issue when you have to change software.

Even with the paid subscription, it is cheaper than most EMRs. It will be nice to be able to subscribe controlled substances online with the new system.

Cons

Be aware that one subscription includes one physician and 3 staff they call secondaries. Any staff not listed as a secondary cannot sign scanned documents into the chart. This means if you have 4 staff members that need to be able to sign charts you have to purchase another entire subscription. They need an option to be able to purchase more secondary licenses by itself.

Pros

Medical billing is made easy by this software. Everything is viewable on one screen and the ease of navigating is great! It allows easy charge entry and payment posting, always showing the balance for everyone to see. Providers able to generate charts with minimal clicks!

Practice fusion is a great EHR for the price. The layout is for the most part intuitive. It functions well for compliance with national mandates. The price is low compared to the majority of other EHRs.

Cons

There are a lot areas where I wish I could click less. I have not found the template portion of the EHR very easy to use. I wish you could have dropdown menus and be able to tab through multiple choices for easy selection.

We use Practice Fusion in multiple Clinical Locations to document patient information. We have services offered aside from our traditional medical services that need to be documented but not in our regular EHR. Practice Fusion is easy to use from scheduling to provider notes and a great tool for small clinics or clinics where multiple locations need a reasonable software.

Pros

It was free and even though it is now paid it is and EHR with great pricing.

Cons

Prescriptions almost do not look real. When writing prescriptions in this software even though printed on RX paper, the prescriptions look like anyone could have written the prescription. A lot of pharmacies in our area want to call and verify they are real.

I have seen an improvement in my overall health and also in my relationship with my physician because I have been able to "partner" with my physician in my health care.

Pros

I love that all my lab work/test results is recorded for future reference. I no longer have to try to quickly jot down everything that the physician is saying in a few seconds. I can look back at the history and see my improvements and also see areas that I need to improve. I can be a part of my own care plan and ask intelligent questions. It makes me feel like I have "ownership" of my own health.

Cons

I would love to see an option of having access to the actual notes that the physician makes during a visit.

This emr system is great for most practice needs in a ambulatory setting however, there are a lot of features you need to pay extra for. Anything that needs an API access will cost you an arm and a leg. Be mindful of this when selecting your emr system.

If you want a robust emr system that is compatible with other systems that require an API access please remember it will cost you quite a bit upfront.

- There were too many screens to navigate to get to where I could actually create a record after seeing clients.

I’ve since moved on to a different electronic health record platform - one which focuses on mental health and I think this was probably why I felt lost. Practice fusion covers other industries apart from mental health; such as medical records, etc

We made it work because it was free. We could use what we needed without increasing cost. System did not meet our full clinical needs so we discontinued its use once there was a cost associated with its use.

Pros

Features worked well for small to mid size clinics. Loved the free version.

Cons

Platform that was once free transitioned to a paid platform.

I stopped using this software after several months because it seemed too cumbersome for my practice. I never could get it linked to order labs and studies, despite many attempts. Although I think they will have less advertisements, they are also changing their model so it is no longer free.

Pros

Great all-around physician software including e-prescribing. Has a lot of options for templates, and the ability to edit templates from a library shared by other providers. It can feel a little cumbersome at times though because it tries to include everything. I appreciated that it was free initially.

Cons

There were advertisement cluttering the screen. It seemed cumbersome. It could be remarkably adapted to one's specific practice, but it took too much time and I went with other software that was more straightforward.

Horrible. This company should not be in business, and there should be a class action lawsuit against them.

Pros

Nothing, this company is fraudulent, scamming customers into subscriptions based entirely on false claims.

Cons

This company is fraudulent. They scam customers into subscriptions based entirely on false claims and once the customer is locked in they claim those claims were simple misunderstandings and refuse cancellation or refunds despite the software being useless to a user.
