LiquidPlanner Software

LiquidPlanner is a cloud-based project management platform. This solution includes integrated applications for project portfolio management, document management, project collaboration, resource management, time tracking, budgeting and more.

LiquidPlanner's scheduling engine can generate priority-based schedules, taking into account the priority and estimated time assigned to each task. As users log time or re-estimate their time, LiquidPlanner shows the most up-to-date schedules. Best and worst case estimates give a realistic look at what can be accomplished and when, while comprehensive planning at the team and portfolio-level helps administrators manage resources.

Since this system is cloud-based, users can collaborate and interact with their projects, tasks and teams, from virtually anywhere. Native apps for iOS and Android devices allows users to access many of the features available in the system so they can view projects, assign tasks, update progress, and collaborate with team members anywhere they have Internet access.

Pros

It has the basic needs to keep our team organized and once you learn how to add/delete projects, it can be user friendly.

Cons

Not everyone thinks the same in terms of naming conventions. It would be nice to also include a number system to assign projects. Also, the calendar is never accurate in terms of what team members need to be doing.

LiquidPlanner - expensive, but with PM software, you get what you pay for.

Value for Money

Over the course of my career I have used a lot of PM software. I have used Project, Jira, Basecamp, Asana, and Trello in addition to LiquidPlanner. Out of all of them, LiquidPlanner is my PM software of choice.

Pros

LiquidPlanner is a powerful project management tool. It can be used to track tasks, projects, employee capacity, schedules, deliverables, and hours. I find that the most important and helpful feature of LiquidPlanner is its ability to track employee capacity and move estimated completion dates back if someone is overloaded. This is crucial if you are working in an environment with multiple projects going on at the same time who are obliged to share certain resources (2D artists, programmers, video editors, etc.)

Cons

At most I can think of only two cons related to LiquidPlanner
1. Setting up a project in LiquidPlanner is definitely time-consuming. Project managers will need to dedicate several hours to transforming their WBS information to something that works in LP. However, this is just a drain on PMs and not project team members.
2. In some environments it can be difficult to get employees to "buy-in" to LiquidPlanner and consistently update their hours and tasks. It's a behavior change and culture shift that must be encouraged and re-enforced regularly.

I don't like that sometimes I miss deadlines because I did not receive a notification for a task. Sometimes I forget to include people by putting the @ sign.

I would just play around with the product. See what features work best for you.

Flexibility of the Customization, UI, and Customer Support

I wish there was the ability to do Required Fields and had a better "notification" Feed/Center. Also wish there was better way to do "mapping" with custom field entries (when you delete one, it's gone, you can't map it easily to another one w/o filtering and doing them manually.)

Recommendations

Easy to roll-out simply and then gradually add complexity.

Likes Best

LiquidPlanner provides robust software that you can easily utilize to help your organization scale. As you grow, it grows with you and can be easily customized. It is well organized, and they provide great self guided tools, tutorials, and means to jump right in with the software.

Likes Least

The only down side I can think of is it seems to be getting more complex with each release. Hope that they don't lose the core simplicity and clean interface over time

Recommendations

I would say to do a lot of searching and also have a clear idea going in to the process of what precisely you are trying to achieve- at the end of the day, software is a tool that assists. You have to be clear on your organization's workflow, goals and what pain points you are trying to solve for ultimately.

Excellent project management software backed with qualified/helpful staff!

Likes Least

Would like the ability to schedule daily work limits to smaller increments. Current lower limit of work a person can do a day per task is 30 minutes. Would like this to go as low as 15 minutes.

Recommendations

There is a lot of competition in cloud-based project management software with a large spectrum of services and capabilities. Ensure you know your operational requirements very well so you do not buy a more expensive service than you truly require.

My team moved from using Brightworks in SharePoint and synching to a MS project plan. We have found this to be a significant improvement due to its ease of use, ability to add comments through email, and overall being much more user friendly.

Pros

Liquid Planner is easy to learn and becomes intuitive in a short period of time.
My team runs multiple projects and the tool has helped us to coordinate shared resources effectively. We are also less reliant on email as we now communicate with stakeholders through LP in the comments section.

Cons

Building and editing a schedule in LP is less efficient compared to working in MS Project.
It would be nice to have more drag and drop functionality in the gantt chart and for dependencies to be visually linked.

It is a great all-in-one project management tool. You can assign multiple roles to one task and prioritise how needs to complete what. You can checklists on task, to ensure all elements of the task is covered. Its great to see resource allocation. The project status functionality is great, at the click of a button I can see the percentage complete on all my projects. I love the fact that I can forecast accurately spend remaining on the project.

Cons

It would be great to have an overall timeline view of all projects at once.

One important benefit has been applying consistent project management protocols across different staffpeople, and forcing (or at least inviting) certain staffpeople to think comprehensively about project management rather than just haphazardly doing one task after another. One challenge is that our management team doesn't seem to use it to the degree they expect of staff, and this really disinspires many staffpeople to put in the time needed for the program to work effectively.

Pros

I find the project/task/checklist breakdown, assignable projects & tasks, and estimating & logging time very helpful. I appreciate the custom fields, tags, & in-project messaging w/ email compatibility. The dashboards & reports really help to quickly show the status of our various projects. A brilliant and complex product!

Cons

Unfortunately many of our staff find LiquidPlanner to be too high-maintenance. My organization has been at it for 2 1/2 years and we're still ramping up. I've probably invested a few hundred hours into onboarding and training, and it still takes more time to manage than the time-tracking spreadsheets we formerly used. It is also the case that all ships rise with the tide, so if some staffpeople don't pull their weight then the tool doesn't work as well for others.

We researched 20+ software applications to fit our business model, and Liquid Planner was the clear winner for us. The onboarding and customer support have been superb.

Pros

We like the ability to estimate the remaining effort on each task with a high and a low hours estimate. And the feature where we can individually prioritize tasks between projects. Our developers can simply work from a list of tasks that managers have set. When we are using the software properly, it helps us effortlessly plan for the future, knowing which projects are in danger and need adjustments made, knowing which developers are going to need new work soon, and so on.

Cons

Although we like the "secret sauce" algorithms that predict when work will be completed, once in a while we'll have a task that we want to keep set to a certain number of hours.

So far this has been a tremendous improvement over the program we were using previously. We'd love to see LiquidPlanner take our feedback and make some improvements, but it's been really simple to use and we've actually had very fast adoption from our overall team.

Pros

Love the flexibility and ease of use. This is a very intuitive program and my team was able to pick it up relatively quickly. We especially love the collaboration features and have found it really cuts down on the emails, which is a serious bonus!

Cons

There is some missing functionality in just a few areas that could be solved with allowing more options. For example, the ability to chose if a resource marked on overdrive is effected by an event. Another example is allowing more column options on the "My Work" view.

I enjoy it. I didn't really know this kind of software existed until I started my current job that uses it. It's really nice!

Pros

I love how I can track items through comments. When someone tags me in their comment, I can follow up and follow through, even if it's not specifically my project or in my box or items.

Cons

For me personally, it's a tad overwhelming. There are so many features and uses and buttons and tabs... I can get lost in it. I use it for my basic things, and I know for sure I'm not getting everything out of it that I could.
