Toggl Software


 

Toggl is a cloud-based project management solution that specializes in time tracking.

With Toggl, users can track time in real time. Users switch Toggl on and a timer begins to run. This timer tracks billable hours. Time can be tagged by project or any other filter. If users forget to switch Toggl on, they can manually enter time later.

Toggl allows users to start out with simple time tracking and later set up user rights and project setup. Users can track time logged by all of their team members. Reports can be generated that show how long team members spent on different projects, how much total time each team member spent working and progress toward team goals.

In Toggl, users can export timesheets and email reports to customers or bosses. Offline support is offered, so users can log time when not connected to the Internet and then upload that time to the cloud once they’re connected again.

Toggl is priced per user and users can be billed either monthly or annually. It is integrable with Trello, Asana and other productivity tools. Mobile apps are available for Android and iOS.

Toggl allows you to set up a wide variety of customers and projects each with their own tariff per hour, the developers then simply activate the timer when they are working on a clients project and when done, stops the timer to reflect the exact time spent on the described task.

Cons

To fully unlock all the features we would like to use, can become quite a pricey venture as we have discovered so make sure to do proper research beforehand.

With even the free version for tracking a simple process or multiple processes, one would prefer a timer like this over even Google's free timer, just due to the innovative features such as collaboration, description of time tracked, and reporting, not to mention the beautiful aesthetic design.

Cons

The only drawback when using this product is when using it as an addon for another favorite product of mine (Trello), it doesn't always run as smooth when tracking the tasks from my Trello tasklist.

Easy to use web app or phone app. Quick to add tags and run reports, and even if the app crashes- which admittedly it does more often than I'd like- it restarts quickly and without ANY loss of data- including current time-keeping

Cons

The reports in pdf form look great and contain useful data; the Excel forms are lacking in that. I often have to use both- ERxcel for the editable numbers and the pdf for the additional details. Not a big deal, but it would be nice if the Excel form contained the same categories and information as the pdf.

I use this tool every day for tracking the billable hours of several clients. It could not be easier to track, assign, edit, and review time on a variety of clients and their projects, and even look up past data in an analytics view.

Cons

The analytics view can be tricky to use to copy past hours into an invoice as you have to mouse over each day to see the totals, therefore cannot copy/paste those numbers or even glance at them to manually type into another window. It's not a problem though if you record each week at the end as the tracking page is easy to review in detail.

Cons

It's too limited on features. It's good for basic time tracking. But if you want more than that, you need to look beyond. For example, processing payroll - not possible inside toggl.

I am a marketing consultant with multiple clients and Toggl helps me keep track of projects by client as well as different rates.

Cons

There is no way to change a client rate without altering historical data, but there is a workaround by creating a new project with the new rate attached to that project.

The facility that gives you the application and portability make it easy to use, I do not use it but I know that it can be linked to a billing software, but even if it is not linked it helps you keep track of the hours you should charge to the clients.

Pros

The control of the projects becomes much easier to take it with this tool, it helps you have repetitive tasks in a streamline, optimizing the administrative time you will be able to visualize the progress and the status of the projects in a simple and clear viewer.

Cons

Sincerely I have not had big problems with the application, but if I have to say something about the application it seems that the color palette to define the projects is somewhat limited, and also when a project has many tasks or is already very large the system it's a bit slow

Web plugin lets you track time from anywhere (including your email). A very nice user interface. You can easily tag entries by project or company.

Cons

The only negative is not being able to tie time to a specific task so that you can analyze estimated vs actual time spent on a task.

The idea is super interesting. You have a to-do list and needs to know how long you spend on each. You can measure your time or you can set a time to do a task. I think it's the best app to use the Pomodoro method.

Cons

The default notifications that Toggle sends you to "track your time!" are pretty annoying. It would also be great if they could implements some kind of to do list functionality where you could check off tasks completed, but still go back and view the time spent on it.

Easy to organize and log time for multiple clients and projects. Automatically groups hours according to client/project and color codes. Easy to report hours by client and/or project to multiple file formats (PDF, csv, etc) and at different levels of detail. Easy to edit dates/times when necessary. Mobile app is perfect for keeping time on-the-go.

Cons

Unable to customize the columns that are reported, so requires me to manually remove unwanted columns when formatting reporting for employers.

There is definitely a pro to having a toggle icon in everything you do. Easy to press start and get tracking.

Cons

Sometimes stopping and restarting gets a bit tangled with you have a lot of task happening co-currently. Not a great multi-tasking tracker. But great at the basic task tracking as needed.

Toggl works great for us right now with the size of our business and the complexity of our projects. It is definitely good for small businesses with smaller projects.

Pros

Toggl is a very easy tool to use and the UI feels pretty modern which I like. You also get a pretty good value for you money.

Cons

It does lack some features that I feel could make it way better. The main pain point we have is on the reporting side. It would be great if we could easily run a detailed report for all the time entries on a project. You can do this, however, you have to manually select the dates and in order to do that you have to know exactly when the project started and ended. It would be better if you could simply just select all time or something like that.

Affordable for freelancing workers and startups to monitor everything going though here and there. We can track time at certain points of a given project and can analyse how productive are the employees in the real time. It produce reports very accurately and hence accounting works are also easy as the format is universal. I can manage multiple projects at the same time and can toggle though projects easily.

Cons

It doesn't integrate with Google Calendar and hence project timings should be manually entered. There is no offline tracking feature which makes it difficult to track the time if the PC is offline.

Toggl has helped solve a real problem for me in the best way possible. It has a stellar design, it does not spam me with unnecessary emails, and I feel productive using it. Try it, I think you'll enjoy it.

Pros

I use the free version of Toggl. It's great and does *exactly* what I need it to. Basically, I log on and hit go and then it starts tracking my time. Yes, it's basically a glorified stopwatch, but where Toggl really shines is what it lets you do with that data.

Though I have not used all of its features, it has a great way to calculate how much you've earned (assuming you are paid hourly). It has a nice dashboard that shows you which tasks you've earned the most from, and it sends you a summary every week.

More importantly, most users can try this out for free and get an idea if they want to go all in.

Cons

I wish more people used it. The software itself has presented literally no problems for me, but my team has not adopted it. That's fine, but it does make using some of the other features impossible.

Cons

For some reason I kept finding a tracking running from the night before. I don't know if this was on me or if for some reason the ending of a timer is not clear enough. So sometimes I would have to guess when I ended something.

I loved that I knew exactly what I used my time for during the day, even the non billable hours. I also liked that for staff that you are supervising, you can measure their improvements in time management.

Cons

When it looks like it is running and working, and it happens that it is not registering anything. This happens when for whatever reason there is a problem with internet connection.

Toggl does the trick for us. We've used it for grant reporting, and to track remote staff time. When you're a small team but can't be everywhere, it's good to know what your team is working on/how much time they are spending on it.

Pros

Toggl is easy to use for what my team needs it for - which is tracking our hours loosely for grant reporting and project management. I like the tag and project classification system - we use the project function for grant-funded stream, and then the tag for what the activity was. This way I can tell how much time I spent on a grant-funded project over all, and how much was spent on admin, research, etc.

Cons

The timer/default time settings. I find that when trying to log or record time, the default settings aren't very user-friendly. It's easy to accidentally record 26+ hours of work when the AM/PM is not double-checked.

Toggl is so great. It keeps me motivated and on task because I only run it when I'm actually working. At the end of the day, I'm proud if I get to a number thats at or above my average.

Pros

I work hourly as a remote dev and this app is a godsend for tracking hours

Cons

This app is really great. I can't think of any negatives because it's free. You can't beat that.
