Exceptional Service, Effective Training, Some User Interface Enhancements Suggested

4

Overall, my experience has been very positive. The training, support, and available resources have made a significant difference in my ability to work efficiently and confidently. Pros:

Initial Training... Is a plus! The initial training provided was excellent and fully equipped me to navigate tax season with confidence. I greatly appreciate the customer support team for their patience and dedication in assisting with any questions I had about the platform. I would like to highlight the exceptional service provided by \[sensitive content hidden\] from the customer support team. Her assistance was clear, calm, and highly knowledgeable. She even offered helpful tips on navigating the software after I mentioned that I was new to the system. The YouTube tutorials are incredibly helpful! They provide clear, step-by-step guidance that makes it easy to follow along. Watching the videos also helps me become more familiar with the platform’s features and functionalities.

Cons:

These Are My Suggestions for Improvement The audio volume on the YouTube tutorial videos is noticeably low and could benefit from enhancement for better clarity. Similarly, the volume on the Customer Service Phone Line is too low and sometimes difficult to hear. The inability to use right-click functions (such as copy and paste) on the platform reduces efficiency. When addressing system alerts, the platform often redirects to a general page, and it is not always clear which specific line or field requires correction—especially when multiple entries are involved.

Reasons for choosing MyTAXPrepOffice

The customer service! I love it since the first phone call!

Reasons for switching to MyTAXPrepOffice

Not worth the Advil!

1

After 6 months I had to give up on their software. They were speedy with updates when they were important to them, but they refused to update their estimated tax penalty calculation, which was incorrect and calculating about DOUBLE what it should be. When I called their software crap, they banned me from tech support, which made their software unusable for me (remember, you have to constantly contact tech support for workarounds because their software is so buggy). Very unprofessional and wouldn't even refund my money!

Pros:

It was cheap and online, which allowed my staff to work from home. But my staff ended up not using their software because it was too buggy, so I had to do the tax software data entry!

Cons:

It was buggy and constantly required tech support for workarounds. They would make quick fixes when they were important to MTPO, but if they didn't feel an update was important, they would file the suggestion in the round filing cabinet!

Reasons for switching to MyTAXPrepOffice

ATX keeps increasing the cost of their software, but doesn't increase the usefulness. It's slow to open returns (but before 2011 it was super fast and easy to use). Wolter's Kluwer destroyed ATX!

Security Breach (credit card) - MyTaxPrepOffice did not take report seriously at all.

1

I looked into MTPO last year and the year prior. The only reason I didn't use them in 23 and 24 was because they were missing the forms for WA state. I already perform a review of the forms and calculations that would offset the other negative things I have read about their accuracy issues, so I was willing to take that chance if they ever added those forms. Their sales department contacted me and scheduled a long sales (5/7/25) call where they were able to show me all of the cool features of the program and that they now have WA state forms. I was excited enough about the full functionality of it to spend the $100 down payment on a trial run of the software. The particular business card I used had not been used at all for 3 months (last used in Feb). 3 days (5/10/25) after giving my credit card information over the phone to the sales rep, my card was used in Mexico City on three separate purchases - two were "online" and one was marked "merchandise" and all for companies that do not exist in a general Google search for them. I have an excellent credit card company who reached out for the suspicious activity and reversed the charges as soon as I denied them (9hrs after the fact as they occurred around 1230am on 5/10/25). I reported it to MTPO immediately. Five days later, I reported to the trainer who contacted me for my training session that I wasn't going to proceed with training on a new program if reported security concerns were going to go unanswered. Not only had I not been contacted at all, but not a single update had been made on the ticket to let me know they were even looking into it. She escalated the issue and I was sent a message to schedule a call with IT, which I scheduled for the following morning (5/16/25). I am part of a team in my other job that runs a managed services desk for healthcare IT, so I understand security breach investigations and how seriously they must be taken. I perform them when necessary. I also understand the importance of client communications during this process. MTPO does not understand this at all. They didn't even bother to call me once before closing my ticket stating the breach must have occurred on my end (though they stated in the ticket that they called and left me a voice message. I had no missed calls and no voicemails). Unless my phone was being tapped, it's highly unlikely the breach was on my end - The card is used to purchase my software annually and some occasional restocking on Amazon, so most purchases are between Dec-Feb. The timing of the breach was extremely suspect. MTPO didn't even bother to seek out feedback from others to see if perhaps the breach was at the personnel level. (Did the rep I spoke with take/sell my information? Who knows - they didn't even look into it!) I wasn't asking for money or even any heads on platters - I really just wanted to make sure the report was taken seriously and steps would be outlined to help me feel safe with the company. They couldn't be bothered with this, so I requested a refund as I am in my trial month and will proceed forward with Drake again for 2025. I cannot upload sensitive client data to a company whose response to a security concern is basically just "We're safe and secure, promise!!" I suppose, ultimately, I agree with the other negative reviews I've read. You get what you pay for - and these folks are cheap, so their software is cheap and their security practices are even more so.

Pros:

It looked slick on the sales call and full functioning. The idea is excellent, but the implementation is not great and security is dangerously lacking

Cons:

Submitting payment to MTPO caused a security breach wherein my credit card information was stolen and used in Mexico City - MTPO did not take the report seriously and blew me off entirely

Reasons for switching to MyTAXPrepOffice

Costs and bundling of services like document portal and e-signatures - I'm returning to Drake until I can find a better option - at least they've proven themselves secure.

This can't be beat! Cost, efficiency, customer service, and accuracy are bar none!

4

So, I started with Pro Connect back in 2015-2016, and I hated it. I switched to Drake, but the PPR was expensive for me starting out, and I wasn't pricing my fees very well, so I found Mytaxprepoffice, which was a really inexpensive flat fee (I think $400 at the time). I hated it; it was the worst. It constantly failed to flow things through to the forms correctly, miscalculated things, etc. Its only saving grace was its dashboard. I'm working on my CPA, so I worked for a few CPA firms for a few years and used Ultra Tax and Lacerte. UltraTax I found cool, but it was very old-looking, and I hated the trial balance utility it had. It is also VERY expensive. Lacerte was the best. For the last 2 years, I've decided to keep Lacerte with my own firm. I paid $6,300 for 300 returns the first year, $6,600 this year, and they quoted me $6,900 and change for the coming year. Lacerte is alright and does what I need. My pricing does cover it and then some, but if I can save that much a year, why not. Their customer service also isn't particularly great. Most of them do not prepare returns or have basic tax knowledge, and I generally only call for something complicated. So I wind up having to go through long conversations to explain what I need, where it's supposed to go, try to convince them that it's not doing what I need, etc... and usually I don't get anywhere with it. So, this season, \[sensitive content hidden\] from Mytaxprepoffice (MTPO) reached out and wanted to do a demo. I was kind of an ass and told him that the software is terrible; my experiences with it and saving a few thousand to have to spend more than that in my billable time to just check, double check, and correct its mistakes is not savings. However, I talked it over with him, and he promised it had changed, won some awards, and he would do a free demo. Well, the demo didn't quite convince me. I'm hesitant and would rather work with the devil I know than the devil I don't. However, I wound up gaining roughly 50 clients, that are fairly easy to do, and since I was at the 300 max for my account and would've had to PPR for Lacerte, MTPO would be a cost-effective way to actually demo the software. It was FANTASTIC. It has an interview mode if you're a REAL beginner, but forms mode is the way to go. The dashboard is still the same; very easy to see client statuses, things that are accepted or rejected, if you offer bank products their status (I don't anymore), etc... It also includes a customer portal and KBA signature options, but to be fair, I do not use them because I use TaxDome. (It does not print to TaxDome, FYI.) There is an app if you have an office space (I used to before I went remote) and you can collect digital signatures with an iPad or your phone. I just had an iPad mini on the desk and the Apple pen and would have them sign that way. The software has no more of a learning curve than any other. There are faster and easier ways to do things that are worth learning. Like if you start with the client info forms and then move from there, you don't have to re-enter things, etc... The diagnostics are great. The only thing I wish it would do is analytics, like how much someone can contribute to retirements etc...but for the cost savings I can do that myself. It also found one thing that Lacerte is not calculating correctly. I can't remember the specifics anymore, but I did a return on Lacerte and then did it again on MTPO to compare. MTPO was giving a bigger refund. I chatted with one of the tech support people because I saw that it was calculating less in (I think it was capital gains), and he pointed me to the publication where it shows an alternate method that I didn't know existed, and Lacerte wasn't using and doesn't appear to have the option to use unless I manually override it after speaking to Lacerte's rep. The customer service is phenomenal. They all prepare or have prepared tax returns, so they usually know what you're talking about. They're quick to get a hold of. Their FAQs, or whatever their term for it is, are pretty robust. I can search just about anything, and it pulls articles and how-to's for it. I currently prepare roughly 400 1120s, 200 1040s with State returns in almost every state, (and many of them with 5 or more states per return) a handful of 1120 and 1065, no 990's anymore. (MTPO does not do 990's well, but that's not why I don't do them). After speaking to others it does not prepare international forms either (I currently do not do those). It also does not do the opportunity zone forms, just FYI. I cannot recommend MTPO enough. No downtime, super efficient data entry, and review, really cost-effective, the BEST customer service. They are constantly taking customer feedback and actually implementing it, so the software is always improving..but not in the middle of tax season like other software unless it's a mandatory legal change or bug fix, but it is cloud-based so again, no down time. So...if you do decide to take my opinion to heart
