Transforming the Way That People Work

PROS

I was introduced to asynchronous audio in 2013 and immediately fell in love. However most tools have not been update enough to change the way people work. The Yac team is changing the way people work and is constantly listening to user feedback and making updates. Yac can be used to give feedback for Yac in a way that does not take a huge cognitive load.

CONS

The biggest challenge with Yac is that it has not been adopted by enough of the people that I work with. Once people use the tool, they tend to love it and we can do much better work.

Holy Sh*t! My hands are saved. Incredible product.

100% would highly recommend this for people working in a remote or hybrid setting. Even for people in an office, if you need to debrief a topic with someone and they have no availability, you can easily share your thoughts and they can listen to it later.

PROS

I love the ability to either send audio or voice messages to my team while sharing my screen for quick explanations. Not everyone has time to jump on calls throughout the day but this allows people to remain in the loop or share something on their mind and not have to wait for later.

CONS

I don't have any cons about the product at the moment. The YAC team is always innovating and releasing great features. They are truly a Remote-First company.

Reason for choosing Yac

I didn't like that Loom was video-only at the time and YAC had a superior product. Also, better user experience/customer support.

Reasons for switching to Yac

I didn't like that Loom was video-only at the time and YAC had a superior product.

Smooth, action-oriented, less browsing friendly

So far, I've only integrated it into a light workflow of updates for an intern I manage. Still trying to figure out as a team how we'll use it in the larger context of asynchronous remote work together.

PROS

Going straight to recording and generating a shareable link is definitely helpful for fast notes.

CONS

I found it a bit intimidating to figure out where my messages would be going and keeping them unlisted. It's a bit unclear in the beginning.

Yac makes it easy to drop most recurring meetings

Yac is a lightweight powerful application that helped us move from a meeting culture to an asynchronous culture that depended less on face time and more on work time. If you're looking for a way to drop the marathon zoom calls, Yac is for you.

PROS

The best thing is that Yac let us replace meetings with a asynchronous voice message. We've nearly eliminated all of our recurring meetings that center on work items and now our Zoom calls are just about bonding.

CONS

The iOS app flashes white when it loads. Seems like their product is still pretty early.

Reason for choosing Yac

Yac is audio first, async first and integrated well with Slack.

Launching asynchronous conversations with Yac

We remembered how useful Nextel's Push-To-Talk feature was back in the day -- and Yac has done the best job of updating that experience for modern users. We are still in the early innings of integrating Yac. But so far, end users seem to find Yac easy to understand.

PROS

We appreciated that Yac focused on helping us get asynchronous conversations going in a straightforward way.

CONS

Communications still tend to be siloed. The automatic transcription to text is helpful, but it still takes some work to organize the disparate threads of conversation to really make use of the software. No one wants yet another inbox, after all.

Reason for choosing Yac

Yac operates more like a real-time walkie talkie, whereas chatbots seem to be about pushing consumers to schedule future conversations.

- Very good experience, especially making Yac channels and Slack channels integrate

PROS

- Easy to start recording a screencast - Like the channels, especially when they integrate well with Slack-channels - Very good resolution and quality of the videos

CONS

- The shareable link should be more accessible - Some of the icons is a bit hard to understand what does - No editor

Reason for choosing Yac

- Channels - Better video quality

Best way to gather your thoughts before speaking aimlessly

It's made it super easy to avoid meetings and over-speaking (I tend to do that). Being able to just record (or re-record) a concise message for the team is key. When you over-talk something you tend to drain the recipient of the message so it's helped a ton with creating more impactful/intentional conversations with others. Super easy to set up and get-going.

PROS

MANY times I'll delete a message and re-record (instantaneous) because I realize I said something in a confusing way. I love how fast I can re-frame a thought in a way that is more impactful without wasting someone's time. Still a huge fan of Slack for direct communication but I love that Yac prevents so many wasted video calls/conversations that could have taken place without all the fluff.

CONS

I think file attachments are something that took me a minute to understand how to do. Sometimes I just want to send a file without sending a message.

Amazing for remote teams to avoid meetings

Great! I like it and I wish our entire team use it so we avoid unnecessary meetings.

PROS

I noticed with yac it's easy for me to explain my point of view to my teammates, and save time. I find it really useful because we are based all over the world and combining this tool with slack it's super helpful to ease our communications.

CONS

I wish it has like loom a feature where I can screen record and show my face as well. sometimes I have to move to loom just because of the camera feature.
