Sage 50 Accounting (Formerly Peachtree)


 

Sage 50 (formerly Peachtree) is core accounting software for small business. It provides billing and invoicing, inventory management, security and analytics/reporting. It offers industry solutions for a variety of business segments, including construction, distribution, manufacturing, nonprofit and accounting.

The Sage 50 system includes built-in data checks that flag common accounting mistakes and suspicious transactions. Audit and security functions allow users to track who is entering or editing data or accessing particular functions. The software provides forecasting and analytics that can be exported into Microsoft Excel.

The product also includes inventory management; users can track inventory based on a variety of qualifiers, such as color, size, style and more. The system monitors inventory and automatically creates a purchase order when levels run low.

Sage 50 integrates with Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word. Users can export Excel spreadsheets with formats and formulas intact, and data can be exported to PDF or sent via email. In addition, the solution integrates with Sage ACT!

Pros

Very user friendly and easy to learn and navigate around. Does exactly what you would want done for a small to medium sized business. I used this software for many years in a small computer business and never had any issues with completing all our company transactions.

Cons

From an accounting point of view for reporting and controlling multiple company departments I feel it is a little too simplistic to handle larger corporations.

It is good software

Pros

It is easy to teach a new user how to begin entering transactions. You can set up an assistant to begin entering basic transactions almost immediately. When searching a list (purchases, payments, etc.) of transactions, it is not necessary to have entire name or number. The software will locate the search criteria even if it is just a couple of characters in the middle of a string of text.

Cons

Chart of accounts does not have a true hierarchy so you cannot get totals to roll up for sub accounts. It is often tricky to customize a report accurately. Some reports will omit data because it comes from a specific "journal" and there is no way to make the report include all relevant "journals".

For a small organization or one with very simple finances, this is probably too complex and robust. For midsize or larger I think it works very well.

Pros

I know the finance people I have worked with LOVE Sage 50. I only use it on occasion, normally under their watchful eye. I find it easy to use to do the very simple tasks I need to accomplish- print something or find a historical record. For a finance ultra-novice like me, it works great.

Cons

If you know nothing about finance, this isn't the program for you. Effective use of the program assumes you have a rudimentary understanding of basic financial skills and principles.

I like the features and the capabilities. Sage 50 can do so much if you can figure out how to use it.

Cons

When I need help the most...its just not there. I can call support and be on hold for over an hour to not get a solution. Chat support only links me to articles in the knowledge base...that still don't always solve my problem. All we want is a person to help and hear the problems we are having and GENUINELY want to help. All we get is someone reading a script and not listening and answering DIRECT questions. Its so frustrating to not be heard.

All in all, a much better product than I have used at other companies. Would recommend Sage 50 to friends and family.

Pros

Very user friendly and dependable. Was able to transfer 3 entities using an updated chart of accounts. Have saved hours every month with the assistance of their bank reconciliation set up. Month end closing has been accelerated.

Cons

Report function seems weak. Not able to create the desired reports with ease. Have not used customer support but a few times and have found quite a long wait.

It is reliable and does a good job. Easy to switch between multiple companies and transaction download function is great for audit trails etc.

Cons

the only negative point for me is when you drill down to a nominal code, you cant double click and drill into the actual posting for example if it is a multiple NL code jnl then you can only see the whole posting via all transactions route. this has been the case for years, I am not sure why they dont resolve it.

Pros

Very user friendly. If you're only looking for an accounting software this software fits the ticket. It does all financials tasks - accounts receivable, payables, general ledger, payroll, inventory etc.

Cons

It isn't useful if you're a service organization - you cannot track time, and expenses. All invoices are imported into this software from FileMaker.

The major benefit for me is having access to the cloud stored database so I can work on what I need to when I need to do it no matter where I am. I am not tethered to my office to do the work.

Pros

Having access to accounting books anytime whether at the office or elsewhere.

Cons

One of the big limiting factors for me is that you can only have one person access the cloud database at a time. Thus, if I am working on reconciliations, others in the company with other bookkeeping tasks cannot make changes and it takes some coordination between myself and others who physically work in the office.

There really are none. There is much better software programs out there tailored to Small business
Sage has rude customer service reps. You will always have to wait for a call back. If they call you back.

Cons

Customer Service is Horrible. Their SAGE cloud does not work.
BEWARE OF AUDIT
When using the cloud you will quickly find you are running 2 sets of books.
I have spent over 40 hours in the last month with rude customer service reps.
I have to date still not resolved this issue.

The software does what I need it to do, it keeps my customer data organized, it is easily accessible, the reports are pretty good, and it is small enough for my business. It is not a large package that is overwhelming to my staff, or too many options and choices, it is small and simple which is what we need.

Cons

The cloud is the issue, it is slower sometimes, and Sage can't fix this. The subscription model is also much more expensive over years and years of paying them for it. The support Sage provides is also minimal and they are not well trained and usually it takes two or three calls and an escalation to every get something fixed or resolved.

I do not see any pros. It was OK product, but after dealing with their customer service, I am not able to see any pros in Sage products.

Cons

Horrible experience - they charged us for the renewal that we didn't want and even though the renewal date was 7 days ahead from the moment I contacted them, they refused to return our funds. Moreover, they were rude and they kept cutting the call and transferring me to other people who wouldn't even introduce themselves, so I cannot give you any names. I spoke with their customer service, sales, then back to customer service and so on. Finally somebody gave me the number to the refund department (it grew out of nowhere or something after 5 days of my calls) and the person on the phone informed me right away that the refund is not happening (without even asking my account number or order ID), because "that's the policy of Sage". The worst customer service I have even dealt with. They got my money, but I hope they will lose the money from other potential customers who'll read this review. The product won't keep the customers long term, so they try to get as much money as possible, even if it means deliberately not disclosing the policies that are being followed by the company. Shameful practices and poor product.

We can have 3 people working on something at once from anywhere. it is must faster that our old Peachtree software but the look is the same so there was no new training needed.

Easy to use and the pro of this software it can be sync with more software we use in the company.
The customer service is good also, as we did request for a help and we had over the pc help and sorted our problem.

Cons

They got one issue with the reports when you want to send the invoice via email and if you do install the updates it will mess arround with the software. So we need to wait for the customer service couple of days to come with a solution.
