Pros

I like that the school supplies this software. It is up most of the time. It seems stable. It runs most of the programs fine, but it seems as if sometimes links do not always work, although that could be the person uploading the links!

Cons

When it's buggy it's really buggy and customer support takes a while to get back to you. They should support a school program with faster than 24-hour turnaround as it is a timely issue.

Pros

The simple platform gives you access to all your classes. I love the "To Do" and "Coming up" bars on the right because you can see what you need to work on.

Cons

The biggest con is teachers not being trained properly. Some of the professors I've had, didn't know how to properly use the software so it made it hard to find things.

As a busy student, Canvas was extremely easy to use to communicate, receive syllabus information and turn in homework with attachments. You could even use it via smartphone. I never had any problems at all using it.

I cannot say that I had any complaints at all with this product. Very user friendly and easy to navigate.

I would use it as an LMS if I was a school principal because it offers many things that are including in a teaching experience ..

Pros

Simple LMS platform, space for pirvate sharing content and interaction, calendar for notifications and reminders. Easy to use. It works very well in almost any computer. No special software is needed to function. It gives the oportunity for every one to teach or learn

Cons

The e- portfolio doesn't keep good tracking to the students projects. It may not be as trustworthy as others. In order to customize the platform the way you want or need, css knowledge are required. A more friendly administrators' enviroment might help.

Pros

I used canvas throughout most of my undergraduate program and it was the best. Super easy to use and navigate. Everything was organized and outlined well and it made having online classes really easy to keep up with. Important due dates are highlighted and you're notified when there's an assignment due or a grade has been released.

Cons

I don't have anything negative to say about Canvas. It was a great program and from what I've noticed most colleges and universities are now using it.

Pros

My online classes recently switched from another platform to Canvas. After a brief learning curve to figure out how to use it, I have found Canvas to be much more user-friendly than what was used before. The content is nicely organized and integrated.

Cons

One complaint: it doesn't seem to keep settings. I keep having to select the "show grades" option because it unselects itself.

Ease-of-use

Pros

It is very clean and organized. There is a helpful sidebar that tells you which projects are upcoming and when they are due. Once you have turned in the project, the sidebar task disappears! It also has a nicely integrated option for recording videos up to about 15 minutes. That is quite helpful for meeting class requirements. I like how integrated the discussions can be with the lectures, and also like the feature to mark all discussions "read" if you do not need to take the time to read them all. There are so many other great features as well - you find out more and more each day as you use it, and definitely appreciate it more if you had to use a different platform in the past.

Cons

There was a learning curve to figuring this program out, but once I figured it out, it has been wonderful. Some times the little buttons are not synced correctly and do not accurately show when there is a new discussion post or announcement, and at other times they say there are unread discussions when there are not. Also, on the phone app, sometimes discussion posts show up repeatedly as doubles, and sometimes triples or more!

Canvas for All!

Ease-of-use

Pros

Canvas is a great resource for any student, staff, or faculty member at the college. It enables you to submit your homework if you're a student, and if you are staff or faculty, it has great accessibility for listing syllabi, course assignments, and discussion board assignments. The pros on Canvas are its simplicity for all users and ease of learning how to use the site.

Cons

The only cons I can think of are related to trying to re-submit an assignment after you have submitted the original assignment. I think that may depend on professors, but some will allow you to continue to submit updates on your assignment until you reach the actual due date, while other professors may not allow that. So that is not a con of the system so much, but it is a con in general if you're not allowed to re-submit assignments.

Pros

Canvas has been a very easy to use, efficient, and overall great class management tool. It's very easy to upload and download documents, link to external sources, build modules, quizzes and assignments, keep track of attendance, and easy grading tools directly inputted to grade book.

Cons

The major con in using this tool is just to remember to publish pages when building out modules. The first time using this, there were a couple items I simply uploaded or created but then forgot to publish so my students couldn't see it.

This is the best LMS available for free.

Pros

It has all the features you need to manage an online learning environment. The roster setup is easy, the quiz grading system and features available to create assessments is excellent. Also I love the add ons from other common sites such as YouTube, Pearson, and many other platforms.
The canvas community allows you to use other teacher content and integrate into your classroom, especially if you don't have knowledge or expertise in a particular subject area.

Cons

The biggest issue I have experienced with Canvas is deleting or removing individuals from your class roster.

Also it would be nice of Canvas could include a paid subscription outside of the expensive large institution (such as universities) plans that only offer. The smaller enterprise subscriptions would be for teachers or other small business owners that need more space to upload video content, and other larger the documents. The 251MB limit canvas provides for each created course gets used fairly quickly.

Overall I think this is a great product that can use some refining to make it more intuitive for the next generation of student and teacher interaction. Once I was able to get over the learning curve of the product and be able to trust that it is helpful for scheduling important dates it is a good supplementary tool for lessons. It should by no means be used as a replacement for face to face participation. The discussion board needs a lot of work, I would suggest a rating scale like readit or buzzfeeed but even that might be hard because of the small pool of participants.

Pros

The product is helpful for keeping track of work progress, submitting assignments, sharing resources, reviewing grades, messaging teachers and the features continue. It has been a great platform to keep everything centralized and gain access to all of the class work that is populated by the professors. The customizable features are also helpful in regards to the potential of the software itself.

Cons

There are a few things that lengthen the learning curve of this tool and can hinder its effectiveness. One being that because it is so customizable, each professor uses it differently and that makes it harder for the student to know what is where when multiple professors are using it in different capacities. Second is less crucial but can be annoying and that is the notifications don't always disappear after you have read a message. Lastly is the point of customization, which I've also noted as a pro but as a con it can be difficult for discussion boards when the format to submit varies for posts.

Canvas is great for initial functionality. I find that it is quick and easy to get the hang of. Building modules and classes through canvas is pretty easy. The flow is also easy to follow and having flowsheets with tabs on the side make for easy guidance.

Cons

Our university in particular has had issues pretty much every semester with carrying classes over. It can be quite the hassle and if as an instructor this is not done soon enough and you attempt to build a class before they have consolidated things, you can loose all of your material. This is obviously very frustrating. Some of the settings are also hard to find and can be buried a little bit.

It is a great tool. I've had my best success in my classes where the teachers I have had that actually use the

Pros

You can easily flip from class to class. As long as your teacher has taken the time to figure out the software, it is very organized. Your classes are differentiated by colors which makes it easy to see what you have coming up due in the month at a quick glance.

Cons

The cons are more about the user than the software. Older teachers don't see the importance of using canvas appropriately. They don't upload assignments until they are putting grades in. A lot of teachers use it to upload their syllabus at the beginning of the semester and then don't touch the program again. They're technologically inept.

There is a paid version that you can do too. It's very expensive, and we found it still didn't quite meet our needs. For universities it probably would do the trick, but if you're a small education program, stick with Free for Teacher. Even with its little hassles, Canvas is still the best online classroom you can find out there.

Pros

We use the Free for Teacher edition. When it comes to setting up courses, having assignments, files, students, deadlines, and grades set up, it's pretty simple. Not a lot of trouble getting things put together. You can integrate videos, there's a conference capability called Big Blue Button that allows all the members of the course to video in with each other and you can share screen and everything. It has been a big help allowing our students to have a portal to do their assignments, and connect with everyone in the class.

Cons

One of the nuances to Canvas that is difficult is limiting what teachers can see. By that I mean we have two different types of courses that we run.

One is an individual cohort of a few students and a director. The only way to make these closed down to just these members is to create a duplicate of the course and put those members in. Not a terrible thing, but then the courses start to stack up with all the different cohorts you have going. Plus, there's not really a way to have any updates filter down into all the same semester courses. So if we want to make an update on Semester 1, we have to go into each individual course and update it. There's also no way to update deadlines when you copy a course. So I have to change every assignment's due date so it fits in the new semester's timeline.

The other kind of course that we have is an open course that anyone can jump into, and then we assign a TA to grade certain students. The problem with this is that there's no way to limit the TA's view of who is in the course. So it shows them that there are dozens of students' work that needs to be graded in their To-Do List and makes it difficult for them to know when their assigned students have actually submitted anything. Haven't been able to find a work around for this yet.

Pros

I really liked the app that is associated with the online platform. It makes the use of the cite really easy on your smart phone. Very close to the same layout.

Cons

It is hard to get in contact with someone if you have troubles. It is a lot of calling different people and them putting you on hold, and transferring you to someone else. Pros

There are a lot of great features about Canvas, and you have the ability to add your own personal flair to your class homepages and things of that nature. It's also a platform that my students are familiar with and have ease while using. For my school district, it is a common LMS that we have throughout the entire district, so students come to the high school having used Canvas since they were in elementary school. I like Canvas overall, but I still have a lot to learn.

Cons

The biggest con for me is that I cannot connect my Google Drive to my Canvas. I heard rumors that there may be a way to do this, but I have not studied that out yet. I would like to be able to upload Google Docs and Google Slides and the like to my assignments or home pages without having to download the document and then upload it to the Canvas assignment or files portion of my Canvas page. I also wish that personalization was a little simpler to do. It would be nice if there were different layouts to choose from or something like that. I am all for creativity and personalization.

Pros

I like the look of Canvas as compared to our previously used Blackboard. I also appreciate how easy it was to locate information and upload images or files.

Cons

The only complaint I have is with class discussions. In the past, I was able to see how many participants had posted comments and how many posts were read or unread. With Canvas, I didn't see that feature and had to read past several posted discussion comments to find ones that I had not read yet. It was a bit inconvenient and a time waster. Otherwise, Canvas was a useful upgrade to our previous system.

I use it to post course content. It makes it easy for me to keep all of my filed organizes and to easily import content from one course into another. It's also great to know when students have turned things in, so that there are no disagreements about when something was submitted.

Pros

Canvas is very easy to use. The interface is fairly intuitive. I was able to use it without having to contact customer support and without spending time googling tutorials online. I especially like the feature that allows me to view discussion forum posts by students so that I don't have to spend time searching through the each forum looking to see whether or not a student submitted the assigned posts.

Cons

I use a lot of online videos in my classes. While Canvas allows users to embed YouTube videos, I wish it would allow me to embed videos from other sites, like Vimeo, as well. And, from a student's perspective, it would be nice to be able to hide the modules that have been completed so that as the semester progresses, I don't have to do a lot of scrolling.

Not a bad solution for what my school used it for, easy to use and navigate.

Pros

It's pretty straight forward menu navigation. My school used this for assignments so I had to use it but it wasn't bad.

Cons

Sometimes it was hard to find certain files that were uploaded for use but other than that, it was pretty easy.

It was a great experience, very user-friendly.

Pros

It was very organized and each section can be personalized to your own setup. Offers many alternatives when it comes to teaching or organizing a class. From virtual conferences to online tests, Canvas allows for quick and easy usage.

Cons

Some past courses are still popped up but can be solved but turning off their notification. Canvas could allow to do it for us.

It is really helpful when we need to edit some pictures. Also, when we need some other digital solution

Cons

Usually it is my number one choice, but sometimes I use other editing programs, but just to make some different changes.

Pros

It's an efficient way of keeping all course materials and communication in one place.

Cons

At my university, we switched to Canvas from OnCourse. Everyone--both students and professors--found OnCourse to be very confusing and not user-friendly. OnCourse's design was a little outdated, I guess, but it was more organized and easy to use.
