Pros

It is a fairly decent LMS. The speed grader feature is wonderful, as is the progress screen. I love the ability to create and save multiple reports.

Cons

It is not a very intuitive design, so it really takes some playing around to get the hang of the features.

I have been working as a teacher for over 10 years and tried several LMS. Canvas is the best one by far!

Pros

Absolutely loved it. It is easy for teachers, students, and parents! As a teacher, you can manage your courses, grade book, documents, messages, and even additional features, all in one place and under one account. It is user friendly and you are able to download your documents/course information and transferring it to a new course so your information is not lost when you end one school year and start another.

Cons

I have absolutely nothing negative to say about it. While I used it, we may have encountered issues once or twice, yet customer service was prompt and amazing.

I liked using this app for assignments, team collaboration and grades.

Pros

Everything can be done in one place for all classes. Updates are in real time, so you can get feedback ASAP.

Cons

The email and message boards are confusing. The platform is customizable per teacher (normally this would be a + but) making it difficult to know where things are for different classes.

Pros

I like that the school supplies this software. It is up most of the time. It seems stable. It runs most of the programs fine, but it seems as if sometimes links do not always work, although that could be the person uploading the links!

Cons

When it's buggy it's really buggy and customer support takes a while to get back to you. They should support a school program with faster than 24-hour turnaround as it is a timely issue.

Pros

The simple platform gives you access to all your classes. I love the "To Do" and "Coming up" bars on the right because you can see what you need to work on.

Cons

The biggest con is teachers not being trained properly. Some of the professors I've had, didn't know how to properly use the software so it made it hard to find things.

I would use it as an LMS if I was a school principal because it offers many things that are including in a teaching experience ..

Pros

Simple LMS platform, space for pirvate sharing content and interaction, calendar for notifications and reminders. Easy to use. It works very well in almost any computer. No special software is needed to function. It gives the oportunity for every one to teach or learn

Cons

The e- portfolio doesn't keep good tracking to the students projects. It may not be as trustworthy as others. In order to customize the platform the way you want or need, css knowledge are required. A more friendly administrators' enviroment might help.

Pros

I used canvas throughout most of my undergraduate program and it was the best. Super easy to use and navigate. Everything was organized and outlined well and it made having online classes really easy to keep up with. Important due dates are highlighted and you're notified when there's an assignment due or a grade has been released.

Cons

I don't have anything negative to say about Canvas. It was a great program and from what I've noticed most colleges and universities are now using it.

Pros

My online classes recently switched from another platform to Canvas. After a brief learning curve to figure out how to use it, I have found Canvas to be much more user-friendly than what was used before. The content is nicely organized and integrated.

Pros

It is very clean and organized. There is a helpful sidebar that tells you which projects are upcoming and when they are due. Once you have turned in the project, the sidebar task disappears! It also has a nicely integrated option for recording videos up to about 15 minutes. That is quite helpful for meeting class requirements. I like how integrated the discussions can be with the lectures, and also like the feature to mark all discussions "read" if you do not need to take the time to read them all. There are so many other great features as well - you find out more and more each day as you use it, and definitely appreciate it more if you had to use a different platform in the past.

Cons

There was a learning curve to figuring this program out, but once I figured it out, it has been wonderful. Some times the little buttons are not synced correctly and do not accurately show when there is a new discussion post or announcement, and at other times they say there are unread discussions when there are not. Also, on the phone app, sometimes discussion posts show up repeatedly as doubles, and sometimes triples or more!

Pros

Canvas is a great resource for any student, staff, or faculty member at the college. It enables you to submit your homework if you're a student, and if you are staff or faculty, it has great accessibility for listing syllabi, course assignments, and discussion board assignments. The pros on Canvas are its simplicity for all users and ease of learning how to use the site.

Cons

The only cons I can think of are related to trying to re-submit an assignment after you have submitted the original assignment. I think that may depend on professors, but some will allow you to continue to submit updates on your assignment until you reach the actual due date, while other professors may not allow that. So that is not a con of the system so much, but it is a con in general if you're not allowed to re-submit assignments.

Pros

Canvas has been a very easy to use, efficient, and overall great class management tool. It's very easy to upload and download documents, link to external sources, build modules, quizzes and assignments, keep track of attendance, and easy grading tools directly inputted to grade book.

Cons

The major con in using this tool is just to remember to publish pages when building out modules. The first time using this, there were a couple items I simply uploaded or created but then forgot to publish so my students couldn't see it.

This is the best LMS available for free.

Pros

It has all the features you need to manage an online learning environment. The roster setup is easy, the quiz grading system and features available to create assessments is excellent. Also I love the add ons from other common sites such as YouTube, Pearson, and many other platforms.
The canvas community allows you to use other teacher content and integrate into your classroom, especially if you don't have knowledge or expertise in a particular subject area.

Cons

The biggest issue I have experienced with Canvas is deleting or removing individuals from your class roster.

Also it would be nice of Canvas could include a paid subscription outside of the expensive large institution (such as universities) plans that only offer. The smaller enterprise subscriptions would be for teachers or other small business owners that need more space to upload video content, and other larger the documents. The 251MB limit canvas provides for each created course gets used fairly quickly.

Overall my experience with canvas, at two different universities, has been a positive one. The introduction of the app provided an even better experience.

Pros

This software makes it easy to see all my classes in one place. The calendar is one of my favorite features of this as it provides a quick look at all my upcoming assignments due dates and makes it easy to manage them.

Cons

The "syllabus" tab is my least favorite. Often professors have their own syllabus and for the 5 years I have used this software I STILL click on that thinking I will find the course syllabus there, but instead, it is just a list of assignments. While helpful, this seems redundant of the calendar and assignments. It should be renamed or repurposed.

Overall, canvas offers a lot of options with a decent user interface. It's not amazing, but it's not terrible. It has a lot of functionality for users who aren't trying to do anything fancy like embed a video into their discussion post or message a classmate.

Pros

There are lots of tools available for both students and professors (both of which I have been). Students will appreciate the task list, the module layout, and the "what-if" option for checking how the overall grade would be affected by assignment grades. Teachers will appreciate the many ways to display class performance, the speedgrader, and the ease of leaving rubric feedback.

Cons

Communication is vital, especially in online classes. Canvas sometimes sends notifications and sometimes doesn't, it's very hit or miss as to whether or not professors will be notified that students have left them a note, or students will be notified of new posts to a discussion that they've subscribed to, or that anyone will be able to send a direct message without the painfully simplistic messaging system making it too hard.

I like the way I can control and manage grades, coursebook, and classes at all, it greatly simplifies the life of the teacher and, of course, it`s convenient and useful for students. Once we decided to integrate it into the school process, we have found out a lot of benefits and understood its power. The best feature for me is a calendar, it helps to manage time better and to understand what should be given to students and when.

Cons

Undoubtedly, Canvas LMS has more pros, than cons, but cons aren`t significant. Sometimes it highlights that the message is unread, but in fact, I`ve already read it, it`s not a big problem, but it caused some misunderstandings.

We used canvas as a "proof of concept" demo with three of our schools and found that the teachers were enjoying it. But since we had not used an LMS of any type before, it could have been the fact that they were actually using an LMS. We could not integrate or move grades automatically from Canvas into our SIS, and that was frustrating for the teachers, but this may have been just a limitation with the SIS we were using.

Pros

The software solves a lot of issues for teachers and staff. It allows the teachers to create assignments and automatically adds them to the calendar or internal gradebook with no effort. For Students, they are able to keep track of things in an easy to read format and even try to calculate what they need to make on that assignment to affect their grade.

Cons

I can't lock down the software as much as I would like, even with the integration we use through our SSO. The site can be a little buggy at times, and there is not a lot of documentation out there for troubleshooting these issues.

Canvas is very user friendly. The site is easy to set up multiple classes.

Cons

Canvas does not provide an easier way to export content. It gives you the option and when you are ready to export course content, it will sent the exported document to your email.

I use canvas as a student.

Pros

Canvas is easy for teachers, students, and parents to use. With real time updates, you can manage course work, your gradebook, and send messages all in one place. It is very easy to use as a student; Students can receive their syllabus and turn in assignments easily. It has essentially eliminated the need for multiple, papers throughout my college experience. If I need to contact an instructor, I can do so through Canvas. I can also discuss topics with other classmates on Canvas, as well as view my grades and plan for my courses easily. The navigation commands are easy to use.

Cons

I have had a couple experience where messages sent did not show up later on. This has only happened twice, and I have not seen any other issues with Canvas.
