Pros

The Dotmailer software was a huge step forward for our organization. We were able to build more attractive emails with higher open rates, quite easily. I love the Easy Editor and Templates, and the ability to adjust HTML code if needed.

Cons

My least favorite part of Dotmailer is the lack of functionality when creating programs-- choosing a program start condition could be easier.

I cannot sing the praises of Dotmailer enough, by far the best email marketing tool out there. All our outbound promotional email marketing is managed through the portal along with several of our clients too

Cons

Not being able to create our own bespoke auto responses without contacting Dotmailer themselves to do it.

They have a great on-boarding process and team supporting the launch/transition. When issues have come up they are very quick to resolve them.

Pros

Integrations with Dynamics CRM + Magento and an open API. They are also the ONLY platform to allow you to test the solution before making a decision. THAT WAS KEY!

Cons

The integration with dotmailer was determined by a field we don't use and you can't change the field mapping for the Bulk Emails.

The updates to the software allow us to easily capture client data and to automate the more tedious parts of email communications.

Pros

I like the ease of reporting and content building.

Cons

It is not well organized and makes it somewhat difficult for our design team to manage certain tasks. That being said, the CS team is quite wonderful and it is clear that the company is making strides towards a more robust offering for its clients.

Pros

-Ease of use
-Mostly works well with related platforms
-Clearly displays information

Cons

-Email builder is template-focused and not efficient or as user friendly if your creatives are designed externally
-Certain default options (automatically applying padding to every image block inserted into an email, for example) make setting up emails tedious and more time consuming and can't be turned off.
-Asset gallery in the email builder has poor UX -- there are visual glitches and creating and organizing folders / organizing assets is not intuitively designed. You are also unable to see the full name of each asset.--Project managers have been generally unhelpful in rectifying issues regarding the email builder.

Pros

Email builder is fairly easy to use for non-graphic designers.

Cons

-Email builder is not efficient if the creative is designed outside of the platform. ie in photoshop.
-Certain default functions cannot be turned off, overall adding more time to campaign building. ie padding automatically added to uploaded blocks.
-Reporting is not as extensive as it should be - I should be able to look at a certain period of time and know exactly how many new subscribers we received in that period. People who have subscribed - not just emails add
-Asset gallery is just plain bad UX as you cannot read the full name of the assets in the gallery and the organization of the assets is too segmented. Also, layout of gallery is not good.

We use Dotmailer to maintain a close relationship with our customers via emails, even when they are not currently patronizing us. Ensuring they will always have us in mind.

Pros

We migrated to Dotmailer from Bronto late last year and the difference was immediately clear. Dotmailer provides a clean and organized user interface making it very intuitive and thus helpful for users, especially new users. I love the drag and drop email creation feature and this makes it easier for us to create our weekly newsletter as against having to create newsletters from scratch.
The option to send sms to our contacts is an added bonus for Dotmailer.

Cons

I sometime experience Lag on the Dotmailer website. Also when working on newsletters,it will be great for work to be autosaved, ensuring if I suddenly get disconnected from the internet ; I do not need to start all over again.

We have had some significant issues with dotmailer. Our subscriber file was increasing steadily month over month and immediately started to decline or stay flat once we moved to dotmailer a year ago... still not sure we have a great understanding of why/if things are set up correctly. We also had a dramatic recycle bin issue and customer service was helpful but we essentially found the solution.. we had no help from our account rep.

Pros

Setting up and sending an email is very easy.

Cons

Seems difficult to set up and manage audiences and segments. How they are linked to automated programs is confusing.

We have yet to use the full functionality, but overall I've been very please with dotmailer, especially it's automated email program functionality and design tools.

Pros

It's easy to use, especially the design features, and the help resources are very thorough.

Cons

A little bit of a learning curve in integration with our Magento platform (but that's what our website dev company is for).

It is a great platform for mid-market eCommerce companies, or even non-eCommerce companies that are looking for a more advanced feature set, such as automation, integration with platforms like Magento, Shopify, and BigCommerce. It is comparable to a Klaviyo platform.

Pros

- Robust feature set compared to SMB platforms like MailChimp or Campaign Monitor
- Easy(ish) to use email template builder
- Good support

Cons

- Have had more issues with deliverability than some other platforms, nothing too major though
- With a more complex platform it is naturally harder to use, however that is unavoidable
- There are some limitations with respect to user behaviour data storage limits

We have integrated it into Magento for abandoned carts, newsletter subscriptions, welcome programs, and other automated email marketing initiatives.

Pros

I love that I can integrate it directly into Magento and strategically build campaigns based on the customer and order data within my eCommerce store.

Cons

I'd have to say paying for data storage. Magento can become very large, and storing the information with Dotmailer is pricey.

Originally, we thought it was terrible. We wanted to quit and felt it was too expensive. Oddly - and by accident - we found where all of these people were signing up to subscribe to our newsletter and we didn't know it. We are small and reliant on one person to know how to do those things and it was eye opening for us. As soon as we figured out what was going on, both my husband and I began to play with it a little more and enjoyed coming up with campaigns and ideas. The power is really knowing the ins and outs of the application.

Pros

For us (small online retailer), we love the ability to craft targeted emails based on what the customer is buying or is sitting in their cart. We were also able to use it to ask customers for business and product reviews.

Cons

I would like the Segment creation to be a little more intuitive. If I want to send a targeted group of customers an email to remind them to review, the field you use is confusing and you can just say - pick x group who purchased 7 days ago, you have to do something like 7 days but exclude those 6 days or fewer. I was also using last purchase date as suggested by support but when I spoke to our account manager it was a completely different field.

Coming from MailChimp there are things about dotmailer that both made me happy and made me frustrated. There was a bit of a learning curve involved to get into some of the deeper customizations. Now that I have the hang of the platform I feel confident in how to develop an email on the fly when necessary. The linking with Magento has been frustrating mainly because of my lack of knowledge on the Magento side of things. I just know there is some functionality that isn't firing correctly.

Pros

I really enjoy the way that dotmailer utilizes blocks in email design and the ability to create multi-column designs. The automations are also easy to lay out once you get the hang for the kind of logic needed to design. Our onboarding project manager has been a superstar at getting our programs up and running as well as assisting us with our GDPR compliance.

Cons

We are having an ongoing issue with our abandoned cart program and how it interfaces with our Magento platform. The issues appear to be on our Magento side, and the dotmailer support team has been great at working with us on this. Nonetheless this is an issue that is still unresolved almost 60 days after it was presented.
Another general function of the software that bugs me is whenever I am ready to send an email and get to the final screen and then realize I need to make a change to the email content. To do this will then lose the audience selection since that is a step later in the process of sending. I wish there was a way to lock in the audience and still be able to make edits to the email content.
Lastly, our account manager has been very hit or miss in her ability to help. With the amount we spend on this platform I would expect to have a confident and capable account manager that fully knowledageable and up to any task.

It has made my day to day job better and it links with the Magento store we use and Salesforce which made it a leading contender when I was a looking for a new tool.

Pros

The template system is so easy to use. The funtions are clear and anyone could start using in a flash.

Cons

Some things are clear to find. Like splitting tests it took me some time to find the controls. Might just be me and my eyes were not finding it but it didn't stand out.

Dotmail is overall a good email software to use, a few logistical setbacks.. but nothing that can't be overcome.

Pros

Dotmailer is a onestop shop for all your email campaigns. The organization of the software helps to keep all contacts and campaigns in order, while still making everything easy to find. Although very user friendly, I have run into minor glitches

Cons

The option to build the entire email using code makes it difficult for the average user to create an email campaign. However, There are other ways to do it. One other set back is the time it takes for customer care to respond to any ticket you submit, response time isn't always great.

If you are looking for a simple to use email automation system with Magento, it is probably one of the top choice. However if you are handy and like to create your own logic and unique segmentation from your email interaction, it may not be sophisticated enough.

Pros

It works well if you are using Magento as your e-commerce platform. It is easy to use and the integration logic with Magento is very simple to execute. The package also comes with survey forms, SMS and ability to create landing pages.

If you are new to email automation, this system may be a good start to get you familiar with logics and scheduling.

Cons

The integration is nice to setup, however it may slow down the overall system. If you like to run various dynamic values, the system may give up (you will receive email from the admin if "your campaign has been cancelled"). The issue is there is no warning when you setup the logic if it may cause issue. It just happens when you set the schedule and let it runs.

Another issue is the survey form only allows you to send the acknowledgment to 1 email address only.

Lastly the system integration to other platform is not as fluid as to Magento . It claims if it works with Salesforce, Shopify etc. However they are limited on data integration and capabilities.
