Cloud based software, very streamlined
Pros
We love that it is a cloud based software and can be accessed anytime and anywhere! The transition from paper to the cloud was a bit of a process but worth it. Support is above and beyond! The imaging facility is very popular with the staff.
Cons
It can be overwhelming at first but having the on point support helped a ton.

We are a multi-specialty Ophthalmology practice located in Massachusetts. I spent years researching different electronic health record systems along with one of our senior technicians, and the support of our I.T. person. We decided a web-based EMR would work best for us, as our cloud-based practice management system had saved us a great deal in I.T. related costs and provided us with immediate system updates. It also allowed our doctors to access patient information outside the office, which to them, was very helpful. Of all the web/cloud-based systems out there, the staff and doctors at the MDI booths truly knew their product best. They answered all of my many questions on the spot and/or via email prior to me even leaving the conference. They even had an actual MD giving the demo! That I had never seen before. We purchased IntelleChart last January and went "live" in June. We could have gone "live" sooner but were waiting on our PM system to finish their portion of the HL7 bridge. I also wanted to be sure our technicians had enough chart prepping practice before we brought it into clinic. Our "go-live" went more smoothly than I ever could have imagined. I'd heard so many nightmarish stories about "EMR go-live days" and in the end, we couldn't have been more prepared for ours. The MDI University, knowledgebase conference calls, incredible I.T. walk-thru and set up, made us unbelievably prepared for it. MDI suggested we cut back on the number of patients we were seeing during our "go-live" training and it worked out perfectly. Of the first four doctors who went "live" in June, three of them were seeing ALL patients on MDI within 2-3 weeks. I have only a few doctors who are still seeing some patients on paper and only because they are extremely part-time here, and therefore are taking a little longer to become more comfortable with and efficient on the system. If the technicians had it their way, everyone would be seen on MDI. To this day, we have not reduced the number of patients per session, and certainly won't need to at this point in time. There are many things I could say about IntelleChart and MDI as a company but the most important thing everyone should know about them, is that their customer support is top notch! Other practices on various EMR systems have called me, and when I mention that, they ask if the support is just as good six months down the road. Well, it is! I ask for a new "document type" to be added for example, and most of the time, it's already there in less than an hour. I'm the Administrator and even I can help the technicians populate data from previous exams when we're running behind. The system is so user-friendly; I honestly think it's helpful learning tool for new technicians, as it almost prompts you to ask the appropriate necessary questions. The owner of our practice allowed me to select our EMR system, which meant the pressure was all on me! He could not be happier with it and I can't tell you how pleased I am about that!

MDIntelleSys EMR system, solid but a bit ponderous
MDI is a good solid electronic medical records software. I particularly like the imaging facility.
Pros
It is great to be able to visualize testing images without accessing a different page. Secure communication is quite efficient.
Cons
As we are still working from both superbills & EMR, the billing process is a little time-consuming. I am told that the interface w/tablet is much more streamlined, and am lobbying for that.

Retina Care Center looked for the best and most appropriate EMR for our practice for over three years. We experienced many demos. We are a two doctor practice, soon to have three doctors. We have three sites between Oregon and California. We are an extremely efficient practice, however, were interested in improving legibility of the patient chart as well of accuracy of injectables. We have been on a typical paper chart system for the thirteen years. We used spreadsheets for injectables and inventory of all medications. We purchased IntelleChart in May of 2013 and began the implementation timeline with accessing MDI University, webinars, a site visit, and an in house trainer to oversee paper chart entry into the MDI system. Through doing this, the staff became proficient prior to the MDI On Site Trainer arriving for GO LIVE week. The implementation could not have gone better. Shelley, the MDI trainer, was extremely knowledgable. The staff and doctors all found her very easy with which to work. We use AllScripts for our Practice Management System and I was concerned about the HL7 interface working effectively; it has worked great. IntelleChart is intuitive and easy to learn. Our staff learned the system fairly quickly and we are definitely still on the learning curve. We can't wait to learn everything we can do with the system. The company support of MDI is beyond magnificient. The greatest benefit we have received after one week of being on the system is the efficiency gained with the exam summary/letter being faxed by e-fax immediately, and our physicians not having to face dictation at the end of each day. I would be glad to be a resource for references, specifically practices who use AllScripts and MDI. Thank you again for having such an awesome team!
