NextGen is an Amazing Health Records Connector

Value for Money

Only a great experience with this program!

Pros

NextGen offers all you would want in a health records online system! It allows the user and patients to track records effectively from new patient to ongoing and regular appointment setters. Appointments are shared via email, as well as updates to health notes, important news related to your health and a full onsite calendar to view future appointments and share medical needs.

Cons

Excellent! I love this system and have used this program personally via my Doctor as a health management portal. Health records and details are easily accessible and appointments can be regularly reviewed or rescheduled.

I think this EMR is so bad that it should be abandoned.

Pros

None. There are no pros of this product. It is horrible. I would not recommend NextGen to anyone.

Cons

Each notes takes excessive time to complete. Requires countless clicking to complete even the simplest task. Glitchy. Frequently crashes. Does not communicate with other EMRs. Very difficult to learn.

Pros

I would have to say one of the best things about this system is that it is cloud based and easy to set up.

Cons

I would say that the worst part of this system is that when the internet is down, you really have no access.

Pros

Intraoffice communication and groups are well organized. This system is robust at managing phone calls and nursing communications. Maybe newer builds are better?

Cons

It doesn’t do much else. Slow. Buggy. Impossible to type a note quickly. Templates are awful. Lots and lots of clicking and checking boxes. Busy busy interfaces. Nothing is easy - coding, billing, orders, results, notes all are done better by any other system.

Customer Service is a joke and they are very unethical in their billing practices and procedures. No way would I ever recommend this company/product.

Pros

Nothing. This system is so convoluted it takes twice to three times longer for new staff to learn over other systems we've used.

Cons

Everything. Once they get your credit card info, beware. If you try to leave these folks they will bill you for stuff just cause they can I guess. If you leave cancel the card they have immediately.

Unable to Terminate Contract

Ease-of-use

Value for Money

Pros

Ease of use. Everyone was really nice to begin with. Caring, understanding, helpful, etc. Now, not so much. Please see ‘Cons’ below.

Cons

After a year on the program I want to terminate my contract. Well. No one will help with this. I cannot get any good answers on how to do this. My sales rep said to go to the ‘Success Community’ and ‘announce’ that I want to terminate but not how to to do this. I called the number my sales rep told me, chose option 6 (which only went to PM or EHR support) and they had no idea what I was talking about. And there is no way to get an operator on the phone. Had to email (couldn’t get a person) our account rep. Still haven’t heard back from her. Emailed my sales rep’s boss. No response. So even though the product is okay I am now a FIRM believer that this is a scam since they won’t tell us how to terminate the contract. I may have to get a lawyer involved which will be costly and time consuming. I didn’t realize this was ‘Hotel California’.

Ease-of-use

Functionality

Value for Money

In 2006, a 3rd party integrator (no longer in business) sold NextGen to our organization and since this was their first time installing it, the installation and configuration was barely implemented. To mitigate, in 2011, additional Practice Management training from NextGen and EHR Training/template development resources from Ciscon were engaged to review billing processes and create clinical workflows. Thanks to NextGen/Ciscon, we were able to launch the EHR in 2013. Since then, they have helped us make significant improvements to the clinical workflow (customizing templates) and billing processing. In 2016, the NextGen reports allowed us to start receiving CMS Meaningful Use/ACI incentive funds.

Pros

1. Highly configurable...an organization can develop/program/configure any template or drop-down list box to tailor it to their clinical staff!

2. Software includes everything a clinic/hospital needs...and with NextGen's MirthConnect product, any interface or integration to another system is possible and easy! Besides the EHR and Practice Management, NextGen provides a Patient Portal, ePrescribe capability, Rosetta and MirthConnect (allowing interfaces to any system like LabCorp, Quest, Immunization Registries.), and much more!

3. NextGen Support is awesome...and if there is a new staff member, just request Tier 2 or Tier 3 support techs so your challenges are addressed quickly by experts in every area of the product!

4. NextGen Training is helpful from knowledgeable and experienced staff who have worked in clinical and front office environments. For any upgrades or projects, or if you are brand new, leverage the advanced trainers for additional training for staff and learning how to utilize/configure the system by having them review your configuration.

5. NextGen Development and NextGen 3rd Party Integrators (like Ciscon) are amazing to work with...If you don't have time to develop templates or learn, contact them to obtain a quote. I have been most impressed with support team at Ciscon! They have been able to streamline Provider templates and save tons of clicks so the Providers just adore and appreciate the efforts! They were also able to train all the clinical staff on the new workflows.

Cons

Like any EHR (vs a paper chart), there are lots of clicks for the clinical staff members.
In addition, the graphical user interface was so new to staff, this caused delays in the encounters.
(To mitigate, we spent time, money, and effort on training users as well as building customized templates...This was worth every penny!)

Cons

The least physician friendly software I can imagine. Impossible to operate without a scribe. I highly recommend this EHR system for any medical clinic looking for a better system!

Pros

This is one of the easiest EHR systems I've encountered with a lot great features especially for an orthopedic office. From scheduling patients to telephone encounters, it's super easy navigate and keep appropriate documentation. I like the viewing the schedule because it's easy to see all doctors that are within that clinic so you can easily schedule patients. Sending other team members tasks regarding phone calls or any messages is simple.

Cons

Finding certain documents was a tad bit tricky but that could have been within the clinic side with naming certain documents correctly. Other than that, not much else would be on my con list.

Please make Nexgen a more user friendly system. Too much navigating and entering that takes away time from the patient.

Pros

The history page can click multiple diagnosis's at one time to save, which is the only efficient part of this system.

Cons

Everything! To explain it takes 20 minutes to enter in patient information for a complete exam due to the complexity of the system. I believe there are two many pages and to much emphasis on detail. Too much pop ups and options. The program needs to be condensed to one page and simplistic not a vomit of resources that you have to search for. I do not recommend this product to companies.

Pros

* No hardware required.
* Easy to set up and use.
* Full-featured.
* Excellent support.
* Great for MIPS and MU.
* Good integration with fax or direct message.
* Very nice electronic order interface for Quest (and probably other vendors).

Cons

* Speed and reliability could improve somewhat (we use the web-based software).
* CCDA import and export are fragile and barely work.
* Billing module is functional but requires experienced billers to make it work well.

NextGen has a lot of pluses.. We are able to capture information well to meet measures and compliance. We had the opportunity to switch to another EMR but chose to stay with this product due to reliability and great customer service.

Pros

Customer Service is great. It is very easy to submit a ticket for support. Turn around time is very quick. The support team is very nice and easy to work with. Some go above and beyond to help.
System is able to capture most of your documentation needs
On-site trainers are excellent to work with

Cons

NextGen can be over whelming to some users. Especially providers. The complaints are "a lot of clicking". Some templates are cumbersome. The new Inbox/PAQ can be confusing.

Cons

Used to have fantastic live web based support group every day with a completely informed support staff. This was discontinued by Nextgen. Used to have in depth informative appropriate web based tutorials. Nextgen got rid of these and now there is simplistic insufficient web based support. I am looking for a new cloud based EMR

Pros

It is cloud based so you can review a patient from any computer or smart phone. All the IT download improvements are done by them.

Cons

The web based support an live support is now lacking since the company was bought by Nextgen. If you don't know what you are doing or face a new problem - good luck.

Pros

I am a user of this software, and it has helped me stay organized in so many different ways! Any lab results are sent to my portal directly by my PCP, with a personal message from her if she needs to tell me anything. Also, I am always able to refer back to my history and see when I had a procedure done or the last time I was prescribed medications. If I have a question for my doctor, I am able to send a message to her right through my portal! I never knew anything like this existed, but the future of healthcare is amazing!

Pros

I most enjoyed finally graduating from my residency and not needing to use this at my clinic anymore.

Cons

I used nextgen when I was a resident because it’s what the University clinic management decided to use. The server interface was horrible, always stalling, and the reason given was “it takes more work because it has to go through encryption”. All the resident doctors in my clinic hated using it. Not much to like about NextGen Population Health. I've been assigned to work with this application on a couple of projects in 2017 and oh my god was it giving me a headache. Not many positive aspects I can list to be honest.

Cons

Honestly, where do I begin? Let's start with something basic. Just searching up medical history would return many results that have nothing to do with what you search for? Tons of little bugs and mistakes that need fixing.

Pros

Speaking as a BI professional. NextGen has the best structure for their underlying database. It is easy and intuitive to learn and use.

Cons

As with all EHRs, out of the box reporting is terrible. You need your own developers to really get at the BI side of things.

I DID get great service and support until NextGen bought Healthfusion. Now I don't get a lot of benefit from it.

Pros

Healthfusion is fully integrated. You don't have to upload/download, verything is on auto. You post a charge, the claim transmits. ERA's automatically download and are there when you look for them. Total package.

Cons

NextGen. They are the absolute worst. Customer service reps used to be great, now that NextGen has taken over they are purposely useless because they want all requests to go through a website. Those requests are not followed up on in any timely manner. Everything now takes a month when it used to take a week. Staff has been reduced, personal contact has been almost eliminated. The moment I find another software that I like HALF as well, I'm done.

It simplifies the billing process from charge entry to electronic billing to payment posting.

Pros

The EPM side is easy to learn even as a beginner so training new billing employees has been easy. Having EPM and EHR connected makes it easy to toggle between the 2.

Cons

The reporting features for sure. The reports are difficult to get what you want and aren't flexible or easily modified to fit what we need sometimes. Basic monthly reports are fine, it's when we're looking to run something specific that it seems impossible.

Just a good system to use.

Pros

The software is formatted to make it very easy to move from screen to screen without difficulty. The ability to teach the system to first time users is very basic with step by step instructions that are capable with types of systems. it is almost self explanatory in terms of use if you just basically follow the step by step logical format.

Cons

The initial start up process is sometimes a bit to long in the morning when initiation of the occurs.
