Slack Software

Slack is a cloud-based project collaboration and team interaction tool designed to facilitate communication across organizations. The solution caters to various industries, including media, research, technology, education, financial services, retail, transport and logistics.

Slack provides public channels for members across organizations to start conversations. Private channels enable interaction within smaller teams, and direct channels help send messages directly to colleagues.

Slack incorporates feeds from social media into the application and blends them with ongoing conversations in various channels. Files such as PDFs, images, documents and spreadsheets can be shared via drag and drop.

Slack archives messages, notifications, files (as well as the contents of files) and projects, all of which can be searched for later. Slack allows users to customize their notifications and reduce their scope. All changes are reflected in the native applications available for iOS and Android.

Additional and more robust integrations with Salesforce where we can pull in case data into slack and vice-a-versa send activities from slack to cases.

Pros

Ability to communicate with internal teams, integrations with a lot of different business and IT systems and ease of use. We use slack between our tier 1 and tier 2 support teams where we do real time case deflection. Since we launched this process, we have seen a 30% increase in our first contact resolution.

Cons

Not enough integrations with Salesforce, JIRA, etc. I would like some additional analytics like counts of messages within a channel per day/ member.

Pros

It has a casual interface with gifs and emojis. You can create temporary groups then later change to private groups or messages. Also, you can save message history.

Cons

One thing Slack doesn't have is voice chat. And I don't think it would work well in for a more formal organization, too casual.

Slack is GREAT!

Pros

Slack has been very valuable to our company. It is a great and easy way to communicate thorughout the day. Either through channels and announcing things to everyone OR through direct message. We also love the app on our phones

Cons

I cannot think of any cons. Maybe if you are apart of many channels, your channel list gets long and confusing.

Value for Money

Pros

Slack really is the pinnacle of communication apps for organizations large or small. I have used this as a group of friends, as a business, and as a nonprofit tool for my organization to stay in contact with board members. The channel and group features are top notch and the ability to use web and mobile applications is invaluable

Cons

Sometimes the process can be somewhat difficult for inviting and onboarding new members as the onboarding website is a little different than the actual site itself.

Pros

You can easily setup channels for specific topics, send personal messages to an individual user/team member, or you can setup groups for different projects.

Cons

You need a fast computer for this application because this application uses a lot of memory (RAM). And the cost per user is a quite a bit higher than competitors.

Value for Money

Pros

- High level of user customization features
- Can upload and store files for each channel, with a considerable amount of storage for each person
- Notifications/layout/themes can be modified for each individual user

Cons

- It's expensive, especially if you need some of the features contained within the Standard or Plus subscriptions. This is hard to overcome for small businesses, and may be more palatable with perpetual licensing.

Pros

Allows for specific items/topics to be stored in one location on my phone with a singular purpose. I am able to save conversations, share files, pictures, plan events, create teams and maximize communication.

I wish there were a capability like a Google Drive or Dropbox to store all files related to specific projects or discussions rather than having to go to another location to access documents.

Pros

It has been fulfilling our purpose for the last 5 years. Be it a project discussion, topic relevant discussion, announcements, or updates relevant to what's happening in other tools like PMS, Google docs, etc. - Slack is our first and last to go software. Team communication hasn't been this much easier.

Cons

Sometimes it feels like a memory eater app. It takes much time to load the app when you're a part of 5-10 different slack teams. This could be much better.

For a paid account, this application is one of the best options to be used to communicate if one is working with a team. Collaboration is quite simplified

Pros

Features such as bots help to keep a schedule, overview the work done by the people, setting targets and achieving them. Easy to share code snippets, media files, and other documents.

Cons

The max capacity of messages for a free account is quite less and so you lose the history. Also, the storage available is quite less for the free account.

Slack for team IMs

Ease-of-use

Customer Support

Value for Money

I think a platform like this is important for collaboration within and across teams. It has been especially important to our teams in which more than half of our staff work remotely.

Pros

I like that Slack allows users to set up channels to keep conversations on topic. We've set up group discussions on business and non-business related topics and our employees like to share information and pictures with each other in this group setting.

Cons

The only issue I've run into is that you have to have the app open in order to get notices. I know that seems basic, but some of the people I personally communicate with don't always open up their app, so IMs can sit for hours.

Pros

Slack is a great platform for project collaboration. Stop using emails to communicate about current projects -- it's a bad idea! An app like Slack is helpful for conducting the necessary communication without it getting lost in an already too-busy email inbox.

It's been fantastic to bring everything we can into one place. Now that everyone is used to it, it saves a bunch of time

Pros

Slack's ability to add links to other software and services was what became the game changer for us. From chat and document sharing, to also receiving notifications from web and social in the one place, it solved a lot of our manual checking issues.

Cons

Never worked with it at a large scale, so not sure how crowded channels would become. It was a challenge for older colleagues to use, and we faced some resistance moving everyone across.

Pros

Slack is incredibly easy to use! I'm on the product team for a SaaS application and we are constantly having to discuss issues with our development team. Due to everyone being in various time zones we utilize Slack to communicate and keep our conversations organized. It's very user friendly, has excellent options for customizing the notifications and extents of channels/chats. I find it much simpler than other similar products. You can tag people, notify whole channels and create alerts for users. I love it!

Cons

Notifications can be a bit annoying however I think with best practices in places they can be kept to a minimum. This is just a personal con, but I don't love the aesthetics of the logo and application in the browser- it's just a color thing and I wish it was more customization however it has nothing to do with the functionality. Noted - I have no idea how much the product costs, so I can't comment on that.

Pros

I like its instant messaging feature the best.I also like that anyone across my organization can set up chat groups on slack ; this particularly has been useful for setting up project chat groups where we exchange information about particular company projects.
I find communication over Slack to be seamless as I am able to use Slack on multiple devices at the same time, ensuring communication never stops.

Slack is the most powerful tool we use at work in the sense that all my team is on it and we use it daily, for a lot of things. Slack is a combination of : instant chat, email, file transfer, commenting, managing tasks, having fun, talking to customers, etc.... All this, in an easy to use interface which makes work feel a little less like work.

Cons

Once you start and you don't have any integration, it can feel a little empty : you just have access to channels, but you really don't know what to do with them. Internal emails have been completely banned from our organization to just make sure that people would use slack, leaving email for clients / partners who aren't on slack yet.

This program is great. We use thia daily to communicate among our team as well as other teams. I constantly use the self channel to send messages snd files from my phone to pc or vice versa.
