Lightspeed Retail is a cloud-based point of sale (POS) solution that is suitable for retailers in industries such as apparel, footwear, bike, jewelry, pet, sporting goods and home decor. The solution enables retailers to manage inventory and customers, process transactions and dig deep into their store’s analytics. Lightspeed offers a fully integrated, e-commerce solution that allows customers to manage in-store and online inventory, have a single view of customers and analyze multi-channel sales data.

Multi-store capability keeps inventory synced across all locations, while mobile extensions mean that associates can check on inventory and conduct sales from anywhere in the store via iPad. The solution enables users to create, track and assign serial numbers to products as well as create product variations such as size, color and material using a matrix system.

Various reports allow users to track sales and inventory numbers and see sales, profits and changes over time. The solution is able to combine purchasing, transferring and multiple vendors into one master order. Users can also process special orders, layaways and work orders.

Lightspeed Retail is available with a monthly subscription and offers free, personalized onboarding and 24/7 support.

I love the fact that this has a free trial, there are so many programs out there, but for a unique business like mine, it is very difficult to find something that works perfect, or even works for that matter. Free trial takes all your worries away. I love it.

Cons

The only honest thing I can say is that it was kind of bland on the colors as you are using it.. Other then that I can not say that I had one issue with it the entire time I used it

Overall I am happy so far with the program, I have a long ways to go yet but the support is fantastic!

Pros

The many options to create a thorough inventory is great. You can use it a little or a lot depending on your needs. Its easy to maneuver the site and I like that I can look at reports or inventory from anywhere, it lets me stay on top of things no matter where I am at.

Cons

I wish the reports were not excel based reports. And that there were a few different end of day reports for reconciling in my accounting program

This is a great in house or take it with you software. I can log in from anywhere on tablet, phone, PC etc to check how my store is doing, down to every sale and every detail of inventory.

Pros

Ease of operation. Seamless integration of distributor and manufacturer catalogs. Easy inventory management, and very detailed reports available with a mouseclick or keystroke

Cons

No negatives to speak of. It's easy to use and the service is excellent. I have nothing but good things to say about lightspeed POS for retail

Be cautious. It looks really good and a lot of it is. But they're big and difficult to deal with once your on board.

Pros

Easy to use, access from anywhere, easy to enter items, fairly intuitive, matrix is good for setting up items with various attributes.

Cons

Reporting is very limited!!! Extras are expensive and apparently you'll need them! And the support is the worst. The worst! They'll tell u about downloading items from catalogues or uploading from excel, reality is, its not there and it'll be a ton of work. Oh and if you're buying hardware, they'll negotiate alot. Found out after.
And there's no matrix reporting. So you want to see what you sold of an item or by item, can be done but not easy.

The catalog import feature is prime

We started using lightseped nearly 4 years ago for our POS. Best decision for the business we have ever made. Everything that was giving us a headache in the past was instantly made easier. We run a bike shop called the Okoboji Expedition Company, and it was perfect. There have been a few hiccups with mac to pc quickbooks integration, but overall, we are very satisfied with how the POS has been working. They also have a lot of integrations for CC processing, and other plug ins that work seamlessly. If you're looking for a new POS system to bring you into the tech world that is now, look no further.

Cons

The only complaint we have is that sometimes there are a few issues with the server being slow and the issues with selling products without inventory. If they could just have it create a -1 inventory when we sell something that isnt in, it would cancel out when we do the PO. Maybe sometime soon

We used another POS system and were very disappointed in how difficult it was to enter inventory and navigate. Lightspeed solved that problem for us. We haven't had any big issues in 3 years - but have been impressed with customer service on small issues. Well done! Highly recommend.

The tutorial is the best makes using the program very easy I have been able to get everything that we need to track installed and the register is very easy to run. It has been very easy to get the guys using the registrar up and running

Truly the best POS out there, they just get it.

Pros

As a nonprofit it's mandatory we are in compliance with General Accepted Accounting Principles. We have complex inventory logistics with different locations which made finding a good solution, difficult at the very least. Truthfully, if Lightspeed didn't work we would have moved to a mainframe system. What's difficult about the POS systems is that you don't realize everything you need until you've invested so much time. It's either their inventory management, how they integrate with your online platform, how well they integrate with other programs (despite how much they assure you) or how clueless their support. From the beginning, we drilled down with Lightspeed and even refused to sign a year commitment because we were skeptical. But having been with the program now several months you will not regret starting with LightSpeed first or if you're looking for a better solution switching. Their support has a phone (which is rare) and is very well trained. The product really has excellent features that function as they are supposed to and the capacity to grow with you.

Cons

I wish we could have found them earlier, better marketing online would have saved us so much time, money and resources from getting drawn in from other POS systems that continued to come up short.

Robust Information Effectively Presented

Lightspeed's customer support is excellent overall. At least half the time when we experience a problem, it's due to our lack of understanding rather than a shortfall of the product. Their responses are usually prompt and helpful. Also, in almost three years of using the product, we have had virtually zero downtime and have seen nary a hiccup through numerous system updates and the occasional hotfix.

Pros

Tons of valuable information for every product we sell. And in contrast to some other systems that try to pack everything on a single page, Lightspeed Retail allocates product information across a menu of pages so you can quickly navigate to the data you want (and ignore what you don't want). And much of the information is searchable in ways that help our business create purchase orders and determine which products to stock or discontinue.
We have been cautious in taking advantage of partnerships available through Lightspeed (i.e., their ecommerce platform and loyalty program), but our recent experience with both of those has been excellent.

Cons

Some aspects of ongoing database management are not transparent to the technically nonproficient user. We have 5500+ SKUs that are constantly in flux, and our list of vendors also changes regularly. Our efforts to clean up the clutter of stale information are not always successful. And some types of searches are not well supported (so far).

One of the main reasons I am happy with LS is because I feel that my business is going to continue to grow and that LS can support that growth. There is nothing worse than setting up and online store and then deciding that you should be using a different platform and having to start over again. I think LS is a platform that is worth committing to and growing your business with.

Pros

Having no prior experience in Ecom or POS systems I am very happy with how easy LS is to use. I feel like I am learning at a rapid rate and building knowledge that will help me grow my current and future brick and mortar and online stores. LS makes me feel like my business will continue to grow and that I will continue to gain knowledge on how to run a small business. The support is fantastic, they are patient and very helpful when it comes to explaining how it all works. I am now able to maintan my Ecom without a web designer.

Cons

Sometimes the ecom templates feel limited and I don't like that you have to pay monthly to upgrade them. There is no LS app for Android.

I'm a small Kids Boutique and Lightspeed is a great system for me. I wanted a system that would work hard for me so I would have to have many systems to do the same job. I am always learning new features and the help line is always available to help me figure out things.

Cons

Picture loading could be easier and size for the space provided for uploads. I would like to see more items can have photos. Limited to 10 photos right now even though your matrix could have more or different angled pictures, like for shoes.

The system had a lot of options how to track customers, review data and input items (and find them)! It was very easy to integrate a lot of features and make use of all reports. Easy for all employees to use and very rarely glitched. Customer support was always happy to help with teamviewer to walk through any issues or concerns.

Cons

My business was heavily layaway based and I found the program to be lacking in this department. It was not streamlined and the item would simply deduct additional payments but would not be reported in the same matter as other transactions of the day and affect totals and comparative reviews. It was difficult to make split payments and add/remove merchandise to the customer without always make some sort of mistake.

Lightspeed is a robust software solution for our store and e-commerce business. We opened our store in June 2017 and added the e-commerce solution to our website 4 months later. Lightspeed has provided excellent on-going technical support and training. We are able to run our business with all the tools we need, and have not had to "make something" work. It makes us look like we've been in business for over 10 years, and not the under 2 years that we have been.

Pros

Lightspeed has been easy to use from the beginning. (We opened our store June 2017) Adding, modifying or removing merchandise, vendors and pricing is quick and easy. I like that I can see the margin and profit at a glance, as well as more comprehensive data necessary for bookkeeping, etc. I track employee hours and can monitor their clocking in and out. We have been able to make it industry specific to include work orders, and per hour labor charges.

Cons

When we opened our store last year, we were allotted only 3 employee logins in addition to one for myself and my husband. When we added just one more employee, we had to pay as much as adding 5 more employees or adding a "new register location".

So far we have been very happy with the cloud based system. I am very excited to see everything we will be able to accomplish and time we will be able to save using an inventory management system.

Pros

Intuitive, Easy to use system, Amazing customer service, answered all our questions very promptly from well before we decided to purchase the program and just as quickly after we committed. Prices for the hardware are also very reasonable. Lightspeed also has a client driven suggestion site. Online training was intensive and the host was very knowledgable.

Cons

There a few items that would be helpful to our type of business, like being able to discount by line in a purchase order, or add a sketch of a custom piece of furniture to a purchase order for the manufacturer. They are working on a work around for penny rounding.

I have been a Lightspeed POS customer for 8 years and year after year, Lightspeed continues to break one feature as it adds another. Feature requests are ignored. Serialized inventory has been broken for over 4 years with no fix yet. (Lightspeed allows duplicate serial numbers). PDF reports have broken character​ encoding (You can't copy and paste from reports). I've invested about $10K over the years in their software but their ongoing support is terrible

Cons

Constant breaking of features with new releases. Lack of feature implementation despite numerous community requests. Serialized inventory has been broken for over 4 years with no fix yet. I am truly afraid to see what kind of inventory count discrepancies we'll have at the end of the year based on the way the year started with the most random and enormous cluster of import issues.
The software, as a whole has some odd programming choices that I never would have thought to ask about before signing on -- because they're completely foreign to every other POS system I've used, like who would think to ask if they allow negative numbers?
They're cloud-based, which is great for accessing remotely but also allows them to be constantly updating which can cause issues. I wish that they would update at specific intervals and provide customers with update logs.

Pros

Their customer support generally tries to be helpful and you can almost always reach someone.
They maintain a suggestion board and try to address common issues there.

Cons

1. Doesn't do "negative on hand" but instead auto-adds to inventory (sometimes auto-receiving from PO's) which can make actual inventory tracking a complicated nightmare.
2. Non-intuitive search which is not inclusive of all fields.
3. Inability to track total changes before finalizing inventory counts.
4. Some serious randomness in auto-combining items during initial import. This caused us HOURS and HOURS of extra labor and things are still not entirely right months later.
5. Complete inability to search custom fields. As a bookstore, we need to be able to search by author - but author is a custom field, so completely unsearchable. We ended up having to make put all our author names in the "brand" field to make them searchable. It's almost useless if the author has numerous co-authors.

We use this at a ski hill. It is wonderful for tracking repairs/tune-ups. One can print a tag receipt right from the system to put with the skis and have stored in the POS. The user interface is attractive. One can easily find and edit items.

Cons

No real complaints. Feel a little clunky at time, but only because one can forget how to get around. Once learned - it's great.

We are a small retail store that is able to track customers, sales, inventory & profit with ease. And good reliable customer service is imperative with a POS system and Lightspeeds is pretty perfect.

Pros

It is compatible with Macs and thus user intuitive if there are problems their customer service is there to catch you with kind prompt service. The reports with Lightspeed Retail have helped us make changes that have improved our small Brick and Morter retail store.

Cons

It is expensive and a big financial commitment and yet worth it.

We are very satisfied with Lightspeed POS. The software helps us with our product inventory and our omnichannel sales. We also have a mobile access, which is great during our exhibitions.

Pros

I sell online for 5 years now and I have tried many different online sales platform. Lightspeed is easy to use and I can finally combine my online sales with my retail sales. Perfect for my inventory management, the software puts all of my products in one location. Great customer service too!

Cons

Not much for the moment! It would be great to be able to put an item online with a shipping of 0$ for that item only, I think they are working on it.

Lightspeed POS is incredibly intuitive. I think everyone out there knows that POS systems are notoriously complex and can seem nonsensical, but Lightspeed POS (especially Retail) has a very clear UI that helps guide you where you want to go. Information is abundant, but accessable and organized.

Cons

I realize this is trivial, but what I like least about this software is the amount of times you have to put your PIN going in between screens/functions of the POS. Security is always a good thing, I believe that, but it seems like there could be a better way for the POS to realize that you're the same person still using the POS. I also realize that I don't have any suggestions on how to fix this.

Inventory control, purchasing, calculating monthly sales tax, reviewing product histories, creating customer lists.

Pros

We can now track our order requests, simplifying our purchase order process; we can review our best sellers, and create necessary reports fairly quickly with the ability to filter the fields we need. The support team is awesome and are very willing to work with us to fix any issues that often are user created.

Cons

We've experienced some bugs in the software, but updates keep coming through which correct most of them. The user manual can be cumbersome at times but with persistence we usually can find the answers we need. I wish there were a way to automatically put in zip codes when an address is put into a customer card; also wish there was a prompt for a duplicate address.
