SpamTitan is a spam filtering solution that caters to businesses, managed service providers (MSPs) and schools and helps them to block spam, viruses, malware, ransomware, phishing attempts and other email threats. The solution can either be deployed on-premise or hosted in the cloud.

Key features include a spam blocker, anti-virus protection, whitelisting and blacklisting, email protection and more. The solution also provides email archiving. Its management overhead feature allows school and campus IT staff to manage email clients and protect email accounts from malicious attacks.

Additionally, SpamTitan lets users connect personal devices to the solution, and also offers a custom reporting engine that lets users generate reports on threat types and security trends. SpamTitan also supports integration with Google products.

Services are offered on a monthly or annual subscription basis that includes support via phone, email and online live chat.

We use to use Solar Winds. We had a lot of issues when they migrated clients to their new platform in January 2018. This forced us to look for a new solution. Spam Titan was around the same cost and seemed like a good choice.

Cons

We have many items flagged as spam that are not and lots of CEO whaling emails make it through. The website is very slow to respond as well.

Pros

Blocking unnecessary mail and blocked us from entering the blacklist.

A very good anti-spam filter with a lot of options. Suitable for any mailserver (I use it with a linux-based mailserver, but you can use it with Exchange as well). From time to time upgrades are available. These updates are running smoothly, I never had problems with it. We use spamtitan for 5 years now, we had only one actual problem during this period. That problem was solved quickly by the spamtitan helpdesk.

Cons

As from version 7, they've replace Kaspersky anti-virus gateway by Bitdefender. In my opinion, Kaspersky had a higher virus detection and worked better. There is also an extra free anti-virus gateway "Clamav", but that one I had to disable because of some troubles.

We were increasingly unhappy with our old solution and reached out to SpamTitan. From the first moment contact with sales has been great. They were very helpfull.

We are still in the process of moving our clients from the old solution to the new one, which is a lot of work. Overall we are happier with SpamTitan then with the old spamfilter.

Pros

No more need for sender based routing on our Exchange Servers, SpamTitan takes care of this automatically.

Logfiles are instantly available, in our old solution we had to wait about half an hour.

Great virus filtering with Bitdefender.

Cons

It's not possible to send outbound mail with smtp authentication, only ip authentication is supported. For customers on a dynamic ip it's useless.

I would prefer to be able to login with 2FA on the webinterface, but this is not (yet) possible.

Our clients receive (a bit) more spam then with the old solution.

The initial configuration to set the best settings is confusing. It's maybe too flexible. We use the gateway version, I would like to use the same settings as SpamTitan on the hosted solution, which I'm sure is optimized as good as it can be.

Some configuration settings, like ip blacklisting (which looks to be very effective) are configured on our cluster only. I think this could be far more effective if you could use a central blacklist from SpamTitan. In general I think it's great, but configuration could be better if more is centralized.

Setup was quick and easy, requires very little hardware resources and processes email very fast.

The SPAM ratings have been designed very well, and we have not had an email with a malicious attachment or URL pass through. The reporting functionality is by far one of the best I have ever used.


The white/black listing is super easy to understand and changes save very fast.

Cons

The Quarantine report is lacking in efficiency, we have some employees that cannot wait 24 hours to release an email.

The amount of emails that have been falsely identified as SPAM is much higher than I expected. We are experiencing good looking emails quarantined as SPAM for no good reason.

I set it up, and it just worked great! They were very responsive to all of my questions.

Pros

-Setup was super easy, with excellent documentation and walk-through instructions for configuring your mail server (mine was Office365)
-Nice daily SPAM report to users, with simple controls for managing quarantined items and exclusions
-Easy to configure automated reports
-Very effective at detection
-Perfect for Managed Service Providers

Pros

Works well. However, I still get a bunch of SPAM.

Cons

I don't have a blacklist option. I would like to be able to blacklist the SPAM that does get through. I have received the same SPAM 50 times.

Setup was easy. i'm using the cloud gateway and the software seems pretty good at detecting spam. I get very few false positives coming through.

my least favorite thing about SpamTitan is the lack of features available from the cloud gateway portal. it would be nice if users were able to add to their own blacklist or whitelist instead of configuring a single list for the whole group.

There was an outage and I was not informed. Support guy just phrased out there is no way how to note customers about ongoing email issues.
This is ridiculous and completely unacceptable.

It is nice to stop the spam, see what is coming in to our email, and reduce our inbox. We have seen a huge reduction in the email that is getting through to our inbox since we switched over, but we are also getting more false-positives than we were before as well.

Pros

I like that this is a cloud-based solution, so that I don't have to worry about hosting and space.

Cons

The biggest problem is that the cloud-based version is majorly lacking in numerous items that are in the hosted version. You can't block attachments only and still get the email.

Spamtitan helps keep spam and fake emails out of our inboxes, which allows my receptionist to focus on other tasks. It works well each time! I don't know how they do it, but I am so glad we found spamtitan!

Pros

We use spamtitan to help prevent sorting through hundreds of spam/fake emails each day. It saves my receptionist so much time!

I'm not tech savvy so I hired an IT guy to set this up, but he said the set up was very straight forward. All I know is that we don't get spam emails and as far as I know, we haven't missed any critical emails or had any real emails accidentally get marked as spam.

Cons

No cons at all, it works just as expected

it has made my life easier by blocking infected mails. Even management approved of this software because they have control over what's coming through to their mailboxes

Pros

Its easy to use, very efficient. i love the fact that it gives my colleagues the ability to block, whitelist or deliver options on their mailboxes. It indicates which mails come through as infected. ST has made my life as IT Support easy.
