After learning how to use the system, it can be very useful when checking impacts on energy and water through billing.

Cons:

The training "courses" offered are just videos to watch, which doesn't seem worth the cost of them. Maybe if there was an interactive component to encourage users to follow along. It would also be nice to have a more customized approach to report building.

Vendor Response

Michelle, thank you for your review! We’re happy to hear that you’re finding EnergyCAP to be useful. We appreciate your candid feedback regarding our online academy. Vendor Response

Hi Mark, Thanks for having a meeting with us recently, from which together we have come to the conclusion that the issue is not with the Wattics platform itself, but with the irregular data sent from a device you use. This requires you to liaise with the hardware vendor in order to resolve the issue with timestamps as agreed. We are eager to launch your project as soon as possible, so as discussed, if the issue with the device cannot be solved with the hardware manufacturer, we could go for a bespoke development of our software to cover your unique needs. We are always in touch and to reach a timely resolution, you and your teammates need to let us know where there are gaps in your understanding of the platform. Yours and our teams already have done a significant amount of work in order to connect your different sensors and meters in your test lab, so we believe you will launch your onsite project very soon! Sincerely, The Wattics team

I love the software but I have to say that the customer service is outstanding! We were assigned a project manager for some program changes and they were very helpful and knowledgeable. The changes turned out how we wanted them to be!

Cons:

I still struggle a bit with the reports. We recently did meet with our project manager and learned more which was helpful.

Vendor Response

Jennifer, we are glad to know that our customer service has wow'd you. Our project management team works hard on ensuring our customers can make the most out of our tool. Reports are definitely a toughy, but keep at it and you'll be a pro in no time. We also have a few Eco Champion sessions and workshops specifically on reporting, so be sure to check those out. Thank you for the kind words. I will pass them along to our team.

Colorado State University EnergyCap Review

5

EnergyCAP has been used at this University for more than 30 years because it is a superior product. There have been multiple instances where other applications have been reviewed, and each time, EnergyCAP comes out as a clear winner. The relationships developed with their team is also incredibly valuable.

5

Functionality

Pros:

The University has used one iteration or another of EnergyCAP since 1990. The current platform is an elegant solution for handling both the energy and accounting functions associated with utility bills. Recommissioning our database was skillfully guided by the EnergyCAP project manager assigned to our team. Our resulting product is much more functional for all users. We now directly link EnergyCAP to Energy STAR's Portfolio Manager to submit data for City and State building performance reporting requirements. Our internal chargeback process has improved as well.

Cons:

Sometimes it is hard to know what report filters to select to present the correct data. There is so much functionality, that we often don't have the bandwidth to utilize those features as well as we could. There is a cost to every add-on - though we do understand that is typical in today's market.

Reasons for choosing EnergyCAP

EnergyCAP is a more robust product that has been well designed to meet the needs required in a Utility Database. One critical requirement we had was to have a database that could be available to the public, whether students and staff at the University or consultants outside the University. We are a public institution, and we felt our utility database should also be public.

EnergyCAP and Understanding your data

4

I am happy using EnergyCAP. I have learned so much about our energy because of the data mining I can do with EnergyCAP. I like being able to provide our engineers with the data they need to support energy improvement projects, and all we have to do is a quick query.

Ratings Breakdown

4

Functionality

Pros:

EnergyCAP helps our team with invoice tracking and verifying if the invoices are "in line" with historical use so that we can assess the invoice appropriateness or look for reasons we might be seeing a spike. We use the queries to track energy consumption and to help with budget management. I appreciate the weather normalization features so we can easily compare year upon year of energy use, despite weather variances. The reports are customizable. We can add and track custom meters not typically associated with utilities, such as permitting fees etc.

Cons:

The program takes a moment to learn to navigate: Learning the differences between the modules and how they function together. Learning how to correctly write queries will unlock the potential, but those can be tricky, as in any database program. Overall, I really cant imagine trying to manage as much data as we do without EnergyCAP.

The Help Center is good, but there seems to be missing details in some cases. Someone that is not a user should read the help. More instructions cleaning out some of the filters.

Vendor Response

Gwendy, I love your review title: "The World of Energy & Analysis!" that's definitely the word in which our customers live. I'll definitely share your chargebacks feedback with our team and see if we can get some fresh eyes on the documentation. Thanks for being a wonderful customer!

The EnergyCAP Software Platform works for South Dakota Higher Education

5

Our overall experience with the EnergyCAP software platform has been very positive. We are able to collect the necessary utilities consumption and cost data without any hassle and it is easy to analyze the data on EnergyCAP and print reports detailing usage by month and/or season.

Ratings Breakdown

5

Functionality

Pros:

There are many things to like about the EnergyCAP software platform. What I like best about the platform is that that it supports all six of South Dakota's public universities and two special schools. Every year legislators want an understanding of what our university system's utilities consumption is and why it is the way it is. EnergyCAP provides an easy-to-use platform that captures all of our data and printing cumulative reports is easy and understandable.

Cons:

Over the last three years, the South Dakota Board of Regents has had to migrate from three different EnergyCAP software platforms. in 2017 we were using version 1. In 2018 we had to migrate to EnergyCAP version 3 because they were ending support for the legacy platform. In 2019 we had to migrate to EnergyCAP version 7 because of the phase out of Flash-based software platforms. It took many of our users a lot of extra effort to learn the new software and become comfortable with it.

Reasons for choosing EnergyCAP

The EnergyCAP team of employees, from the account management team to the technical assistance folks, are all very knowledgeable and friendly. We have never had to wait longer than 24-hours for a response from the representatives of EnergyCAP when we have reached out with a question or problem.

EnergyCAP Review State of Tennessee

4

Some of the benefits that the State of Tennessee has reaped from the use of EnergyCAP are: >Access to a central repository for utility bills via the web promotes alternative workplace solutions for AP staff and/or field work for facility management. >Proactive approach to account and facility management through bill review and audits, including responding to “alarms” for anomalies >Comparison of cost and consumption data across months aids risk mitigation. >Prior to UDM, not all facility management staff had access to utility invoices and cost and consumption data. >Generate utility data reports and conduct analysis with greater detail and speed >Compare EUI across like building types at agency, multi-agency, or State portfolioevel to identify best performing buildings and energy management practices. >Identification of need for increased communication between facility management, leasing staff, and/or AP staff with regard to building status (e.g., vacated versus occupied lease space – when to terminate utility accounts) >Bridges communication gap between centralized and remote AP staff. >Promotes collaboration between AP and facility management staff. >Automated bill entry eliminates manual bill entry errors and reduces AP staff time and resources dedicated to keying utility bills. >Greater accountability – AP user activities are tracked in the platform. >Ability to pay bills faster results in fewer late fees

Pros:

The most powerful and beneficial feature in EnergyCAP is it's ability to allow both Facility Managers and Accounts Payable personnel to view the same information, but from different vantage points. Another great feature is EnergyCAP's bill audit capabilities.

Cons:

What I like least about the software is that the setup to integrate interval data into EnergyCAP is a manual process, that is fairly complex.
