### Most mentioned pros

- Very intuitive for drawing tablets, a LOT of brushes for every possible art style And the community has a lot of creative and helpful assets to use
- If you have no money to invest in a drawing software, Krita is the best choice for you, thought I would recommend to upgrade as soon as you can to something more professional like Adobe Photoshop or Clip Studio Paint (not an ad)
- Also, I like that you can export files into almost any file type that is needed.

### Most mentioned cons

- it suffer more from my limitations than what it has.
- My main issue is when I make textures for 3D models, it's hard to import different brushes, and one can easily get turned off by how annoying it can be sometimes.

I am grateful that as a starting digital artist I found Krita. At the time I couldn't afford Adobe Photoshop or Procreate and coming across Krita was a good send. It has all the features of a software behind a pay wall and works even better.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

The fact that this software is completely free is vital for new digital artists who cannot afford priced softwares.

#### Cons

Krita is pretty much perfect, I am always on the lookout for features that can be optimized in the softwares I use but Krita always delivers and I've never had any issues with it.

### One of the Best Photoshop Alternatives

I don't like software as a service where you don't own the software you use. Krita is open source and accepts donations for the continued development of the software. There's also a paid version on Steam, Microsoft Store, and the App Store for Mac users. It offers a stable option for basic photo editing that doesn't require forking over money every month.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

Krita integrates wonderfully across Windows, macOS, and Linux so you can take your work with you wherever you go. It's great for small jobs like photo touch-ups, but it can also handle graphic creation for web articles and more. Plugin support is not as great, but the Krita forums will answer any questions you have about making the transition.

#### Cons

Software updates are timely, but may contain bugs. Stable versions are just that, but may not have the latest features. Also, the lack of plugin support may be a killer for someone that uses highly customized Photoshop plugins.

#### Reasons for choosing Krita

Many digital artists and animation colleagues recommended Paint Tool SAI to me. Unfortunately, that tool is Windows-only.

#### Reasons for switching to Krita

The software as a service model doesn't work for my business, where only light photo-editing is needed.

### Approachable Elegant Software with the Usual Open Source Roadblocks

Overall, Krita is a very capable product, great for learning, and acceptable for its purposes. In the long run, a user running any kind of enterprise or business will likely want to find a paid product for the Quality Assurance and Support that comes with it.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 2/5
- Customer support: 1/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

It was approachable and pretty full-featured in its design. The docking system is convenient and after a few basics I was able to get a good ways before really having to resort to online materials for extra help. The dock, tile, and brush system are all very solid and flexible. Although the layout is messy in some ways it keeps the main tasks fairly up-front and simple. They also seem to be constantly updating the program. While it doesn't have touch controls, its support for my drawing tablet seemed to be pretty robust (full disclosure, there are so many tablets on the market that it's hard to say whether my experience is representative).

#### Cons

The cons, sadly, made my time with Krita limited and I soon had to switch to a comparable paid product. These are issues that, in my opinion plague most free open source projects, so your mileage may vary depending on how important "free" is. First, the documentation is lacking. Sometimes it's just what you expect, but because they are constantly adding features for some features the documentation is missing entirely. Secondly, their constant updates and the nature of a collaborative open source product means a lot of features break for extended periods of time while they get around to figuring them out and fixing them. The result of this is that I felt like I was spending as much time talking to (or reading from) other users on Reddits and forums to figure out what a large number of functions were supposed to do, how they were supposed to work, and what any workarounds were for them being broken. It's due to many similar reasons why I have sworn off open source products in my business, but for students or those without the same concern of clients and running an enterprise, something that works 80% of the time and requires much more involvement might be preferable as it costs 100% less (free!).

It has been an overall excellent experience. I love using this software, its so easy and intuitive

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

This software has everything you need and it is FREE.

#### Cons

I think it would help if they added in more brush options

#### Reasons for switching to Krita

Krita has a much wider variety of options for drawing and it is so easy to use or to import assets such as brushes, as well as make your own brushes. For all that, you still get the software for FREE. It has everything that the paid software has.

I use Krita both for private projects and professionally. I was looking for a digital painting software that would be able to go head-to-head with Photoshop in that regard and I found it in Krita. It is a great piece of software that allows me to create art uninterrupted and with ease. The default brush selection is amazing and the functions are familiar if you used Photoshop so there is almost no learning curve. For work, I use Krita to generate small graphics for the website that need that "hand made" feel rather than the sleek vector design required for some other projects. All in all, I would highly recommend Krita to anyone looking to draw or paint. The best thing is that it has no subscription fee, it is absolutely and completely free.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

It has digital painting and drawing as its main focus. Other similar software focuses on photo manipulation primary and painting secondary, while Krita has it the other way around. The user interface and tools at your disposal are all made for content creation. It is a very refreshing take on a digital painting software. Krita also comes with a great set of brushes, once again, optimized for digital drawing and painting.

#### Cons

I loved Krita but from time to time I had issues with brush lag with both my Wacom and my Huion tablets. I would draw a line and it would appear seconds later, or it would decide to dance around the canvas creating a scribble rather than a straight line.

#### Reasons for choosing Krita

It was more focused into digital drawing, which is what I needed at the time.

#### Reasons for switching to Krita

We could not afford the expensive subscription that Adobe pushes.

### Better than Photoshop

So far my overall experience with Krita is really amazing. I recommend this to anyone new to the digital art world or even animation and you won't need to speed any fees because it's free to use.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

It works very well and it's an open-source program which means it's completely free. The layout is really nice and easy to work with. It's also comparable with any format and it's a light program which means it doesn't take much to run it and not much space to install it either. It's an easy recommend especially for anyone new to digital art.

#### Cons

Some updates make it unusable at times due to the fact that it's open-source but this is usually fixed in a short amount of time. Other than that no other issues so far, its only sad that a lot of people don't know about it.

#### Reasons for switching to Krita

Mostly due to the fact it was a monthly subscription and plus I wanted to try other alternatives that were just as good or even better than photoshop.

I'm happy with the program and am grateful that it is free.

#### Ratings breakdown

#### Pros

Krita allowed me to create CMYK and vector files for a coloring book project and I use it every time I need to submit files to a printing company.

#### Cons

Not very intuituve and options are not available by clicking, some functions require hotkey shortcuts.

#### Reasons for choosing Krita

Much better features for a professional.

#### Reasons for switching to Krita

Gimp doesn't do CMYK and Gimp isn't as good for tablet integration.

#### Cons

There is a bug that makes the tool cursor stuck on color selector. It happens every so often and I'm not sure how to fix it. It fixes itself usually after restarting my computer or unplugging my drawing tablet and plugging it back in.

#### Reasons for choosing Krita

Krita has always been my favourit for last 5 years. Its a great app to work with and so easy for me. And its so good about sizing and all. Honestly its the best app i have ever used in 10 years journey..

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5

#### Pros

Its brushes, like its the best, so many options plus online brushes to be able to add too, they are so smooth and doesnt require to do extra affort on. Its really affective towards my project in a good way. They look really affective and they dont pause in times and doesnt make my project rough. My most favourite were the fineliners and they work so good. They are 10/10 in every rate.

#### Cons

The least is that the layers, they are a bit hard to work with but still its not hard if i try more. The layers often mix together if i create more than 10, so yeah.

For me, I have enough confidence in the future of this program. And a point that could be added is to edit or annotate pdf documents that have several and to open them on a scroll of pages and not on several layers because when you save the document becomes one and only one page which is searing after Krita is not directly made for that, but it would have been an added advantage.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 3/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

What I like about this program is its value for money. For starters, it is free but above all it is powerful to the point where I can advise it to anyone if they want to have a versatile program in what is drawing, animation photo editing and now vector drawing. but that is only the beginning because the program is always updated (bug correction or addition of new features ...) and topical. In addition, explanatory tutorials are even offered and free to either start from nothing or to go from a program like this one and they are extraordinarily successful.

#### Cons

Apart from a few bugs here and there, which is rare, the program is relatively correct. What it doesn't have is allow easy use of pins from other apps on it.

#### Reasons for choosing Krita

he is free and easy.

#### Cons

it's not as robust as other design tools and still missing a lot of functionality (plus the UI can be better) one particular thing that i didn't like is that the software was a bit heavy and as a result of using too much ram it started lagging.

#### Ratings breakdown

#### Cons

I am a designer in a store that works with laser machines, paintings and crafts in general so I always use and research a lot of software and Kripta was one I chose because of the effects that brushes can make on prints that we sell to the store. Professions, children and decoration boards get a different touch provided by the resources that the software has to offer, all for free.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

Krita has a variety of impressive features and brushes, among the various tools that I can cite that help a lot and are different from the program are, the effects that each brush can generate, the possibility of creating your own brushes, the easy way to working with layers and an interesting feature that I discovered is the way the line can be drawn according to the intensity you press with the drawing pen

#### Cons

Krita does not have many negative points, it is a cheap software with many features. It is not always very intuitive when it comes to tools, but that doesn’t make it a bad software, moreover, it can sometimes hang a little bit according to the design you made, and working with texts on it is not so satisfactory

I found this to be not all that different to Adobe Photoshop in regards of digital painting/drawing. It does have less of the same features, but this is what I would consider as an alternative for those that want to make a start in the digital art industry. This has not been designed for image editing and make sure you do not get it from a malware network.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 4/5

#### Pros

This provides all the tools you need for graphic/concept design. It has a great variety of brush styles to choose from, and I found the pressure senses with my Wacom pen to be amazingly effective. You have the ability to rotate your composition and keep your work divided into layers. The template is very well organized and is free to install.

#### Cons

Although I have not experienced it yet, but what does concern me is when updates are made to this platform and how it can affect my desktop. Also, there are not as many colour editing options as there are in Photoshop.
